REITER’S BLOCK NOVEMBER 2023

What October? How was your October? I hope great. Mine was a whirlwind. In review: September 30/October 1: Saturday night at the Cattlemen 4 Cattlemen Sale in Zanesville, Ohio where they raised their female sale average by nearly $400 per head. Skipped a dinner offer at Rake’s to hit the road so I could rest for Sunday’s 20th Kastel & Friends Sale outside Hudson, MI. A massive crowd helped them to their highest gross, average, and individual in their history. October 2: Morning equine meeting in Lexington, KY. Afternoon cattle meeting in Maysville, KY. Evening auction at Fasig-Tipton to kick-off the best standardbred horse sale in the world. Nearly $23M in sales that evening. October 3-6: The Lexington Select Sale totaled a record-breaking gross of nearly $69 million for the week. Published two auction catalogs between sessions. October 7: Slept a few hours before bolting to Columbus, OH, to make the OSU football game. Begin setup for The Congress Super Sale. October 8: Breakfast airport run, lunch meeting regarding new company you’ll be hearing about, then fly to Missoula, MT.

October 9-10: The fall dispersal at Coleman Angus, Charlo, MT. Totaled nearly $6 million to average over $27,000 on approximately 220 sales. Quick goodbyes then dash to the plane before. Sleep in the Atlanta airport. Coffee. Check in horses at The Congress. October 14: The 57th edition of The Congress Super Sale, Columbus, OH, where we broke records for auction total, average, high seller, and attendance. I love to learn new things. October 15: Wrap up in C’bus then off to Middletown, IN, to review the Trennepohl Farms stock. Then a race to the CMH airport. October 16 & 17: The London Select Sale posted a stout $23,450 average on 316. Had to leave with 10 yet to sell for another race to the airport to catch a ride back to the USA. Made it by less than a minute. October 21: JMA Auction in Park Rapids, MN that grossed up nearly another $2 million. October 28: Jet to KC, MO, to meet Ron Kreis and work the Ward Bros. Sale that averaged $19,332 and then drove hard to Walkerton, IN, to work the first Building a Brand Sale for Austin Egloff, and Co. October is always fast but this one was wild…and wonderful…and I would not want it any other way. Thanks all! Craig Reiter, Publisher
