Welcome to the Auction! Cattlemen: Thank you for your interest in our Stanley Cattle Company herd liquidation auction. This is an event that we did not foresee but one that we hope you can attend to select from the very best our young program has to offer. Every sound and healthy Stanleyville cow will sell June 24th in Zanesville, OH. There is plenty of quality to go around. We did not have this event on our schedules because we have always intended to continue to breed and improve our herd for years to come. We have been expanding and adding select genetics for several years with the goals of increasing our seed stock customer base and ultimately, hosting an annual production sale on our Stanleyville farm – which is located on the outskirts of Marietta, Ohio. However, a catastrophic barn fire in January of this year destroyed our main barns and, in essence, all of our equipment including tractors, haying and silage equipment, skid steers, pick-up trucks, four wheelers, semen and semen tanks and embryo inventories, a large percentage of our records and paper-work, our main cattle working area, head shoots, scales and computers and much more. Understandably and regrettably, it will take us quite some time to rebuild our barns and reacquire even a small percentage of the equipment that we lost. We hope that you will take advantage of this unexpected opportunity to improve your program with our best stock. Our herd has been exclusively AI and intensively ET for three years now and the results have been excellent with a substantial increase in sales and total quality. Our herd was in the middle of a transition from fall calving to an early spring schedule when the fire occurred so we do not have as many spring pairs and breeding-age bulls as might be expected. We had previously sorted and sold a number of fall calves and our bull sales have been strong; we stopped selling these a couple months ago in order to retain them for the auction. My wife and children and I love nothing more than looking out the kitchen window and seeing black cattle everywhere. We will have that view again in a couple years but, in the short term, we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do in order to retool and re-equip for the future. Thank you for your patronage.
