MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

As we reflect on the past year, I’m excited to share some notable updates and accomplishments at Princess Anne Country Club. Thanks to your support and engagement, our community continues to thrive.

This year, we made significant progress with the PACC 20/20 & Beyond Master Plan, completing the refresh of the Linkhorn Lounge. This revitalized space has quickly become a beloved gathering spot for Members, and we’re thrilled with the positive feedback we’ve received. As this report is printed, we’re starting the final phase of the plan: enhancements to the short game practice area and first tee, which we expect to complete by next summer.

As the 20/20 & Beyond plan comes to close, the Master Plan Committee is focusing on the next phase of our Club’s future. In collaboration with our architects and operations team, we have been diligently exploring opportunities to enhance and expand PACC facilities and look forward to sharing our findings with you next fall.

Enclosed committee reports highlight the strong usage we’ve seen across all areas this year, reflecting the value and enjoyment our Members find at PACC. We also maintain a healthy waiting list of 155 families, underscoring the desirability of our Club.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my first year as President has been working closely with our employee team. Their dedication to our Princess Anne family is remarkable, and they continue to set high standards in the private club industry. We are fortunate to have team members recognized at local, state, and national levels:

• General Manager Bill Shonk serves on the national board of the Club Management Association of America (CMAA) and chairs the Advocacy Committee.

• Director of Golf Course Maintenance & Club Grounds Jordan Spitler is the external vice president of the Virginia Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America (GCSAA) and a national grassroots ambassador.

• Assistant Manager Jennifer Garrott is president of the Virginia’s Chapter of CMAA and serves on the national Research Committee.

• Assistant Manager Mardy Colling is a board member and immediate past president of the Virginia’s Chapter of CMAA.

• Director of Golf Matt Liebler was recognized as a Triton on the Virginia Beach Neptune Court.

• Director of Player Development Andrew Brewer was named one of Golf Digest’s Best Young Teachers in America for 2025-2026.

Financially, Princess Anne had a strong year, remaining stable and healthy, a testament to our prudent management and strategic planning. Further details are outlined in the Treasurer’s Report. Rest assured that we are well-positioned for continued success.

As we conclude this year, I extend my gratitude to those who have contributed to our Club through committee and board service. A special thanks to outgoing Directors John Hawa, Nicole Legum, Amy Metzger, and Sam Steingold, who have served as committee chairs over the past three years. Finally, thank you to all our Members for your unwavering support and for being part of our vibrant Princess Anne family. We are excited about the future and look forward to sharing more updates with you in the coming year!

TREASURER’S REPORT

I am pleased to present this report to summarize the highlights of our Club’s financial operations for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2024.

As presented on page 6 in the 2023 – 2024 Unaudited Consolidated Financial Results, the Club’s Net Cashflow Before Capital Replacement and Aspirational Capital Funding is $2,335,036. These results are $683,053 ahead of budget and $1,087,720 ahead of the prior year. The club’s auditors, BDO, should complete their examination of our financial statements in November. While the information included in this report is preliminary, we do not anticipate any significant changes to the information

as presented and the auditors are satisfied with the Club’s internal controls currently in place.

The current year actual performance and budget as well as last year’s actual financial results in the adjoining table are broken down into two sections: cashflow from operations, and cashflow for debt service, capital replacement reserves, and aspirational capital funding. While both sections combined create the annual budget for the Princess Anne, they are both separate and distinct in their financial purpose and what they provide to meet the needs of the Club.

Cashflow from operations is a measure of the cost to operate the Club and deliver the Member experience that we expect. Simply stated, “it is the cost of keeping the lights on.” Monthly dues and supplements are the primary operations funding sources. Fiscal year 2023 – 2024 shows a .13% variance between budgeted/actual operating income and a .45% variance between budgeted/actual operating costs. The 2024 - 2025 budget requires a dues increase of 4.6% to support a 9.06% increase in operating costs leading to a projected net operating income of $71,571. These costs reflect additional personnel required to meet Member experience demands as well

TREASURER’S REPORT

as standard increases in fundamental costs such as chemicals, linens, insurance, utilities and federally mandated wage increases in limited circumstances. As we are all aware, the cost of operating any organization is increasing. The Operations Team has and will always evaluate various methods to minimize costs while acknowledging the rightful demand for Member experience.

The Princess Anne’s capital ledger drives cashflow for existing debt service, ongoing capital replacement reserves and aspirational capital enhancements. These three financial components work together to sustain and grow Member equity as well as fortify the capital ledger which will strategically position the Princess Anne today and for future generations.

Your Board continues to focus considerable attention on the balance sheet and capital ledger. Traditionally, clubs fund capital ledgers with initiation fees, capital fees, assessments, and debt. To that end, fiscal year end cash totaled $4,112,767 as compared to $3,620,934 on September 30, 2023. We project a balance of $3,410,835 on September 30, 2025. Currently $2,694,616 of capital reserve funds are designated in interest bearing accounts. Through Member surveys and other feedback channels, your Board and Operations Team learned the Membership’s aspirational preferences and have developed a financial strategy to meet those preferences. This year, your Club funded $886,056 in debt service; just over $1.2 million in capital replacements (paid out of our replacement reserves) for various scheduled items such as renovated tennis locker rooms, new fitness equipment, new carpet throughout the club, renovated tee boxes, new GCM

and HVAC equipment; and nearly $300,000 in the PACC 20/20 & Beyond Linkhorn Lounge project. As the clubhouse and surrounding facilities age, the need for a well-funded replacement reserve is a critical requirement to meet the demands of future capital replacement projects as identified in the Club’s replacement reserve study. For fiscal year 2024 – 2025, scheduled debt service totals $885,995, scheduled capital replacement reserve expenditures total $1,306,500, and scheduled future master plan designs total $250,000.

The final phase of the PACC 20/20 & Beyond Master Plan will begin this fall with enhancements to the golf short game practice area and a new putting green next to the driving range. These enhancements are scheduled to open in the Summer of 2025. The PACC 20/20 & Beyond Master Plan was approved by the Membership in 2019 and included: completion of the conversion to Better Billy Bunkers on the golf course; transition of tennis court eight to two pickleball courts; creation of the “Reef” youth room; renovation of the Holly Beach Bungalow; the new aquatics complex; the “Beckett’s Bunker” golf simulator/instructional center; and a refresh of the Linkhorn Lounge. Contracts totaling $875,000 have been secured for the golf short game practice area bringing the PACC 20/20 total actual cost to $6,635,772, just $60,772 over the originally approved 2019 budget of $6,575,000. This overage amounts to less than one percent (1%) of the original budget. To complete this plan, this close to budget through the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic and its resulting inflationary pressures is a testament to the support of our Members and determination

PRELIMINARY DEPARTMENTAL STATEMENT OF REVENUE AND EXPENSES

of our Team. Drawings and details for the short game practice area and information on the entire PACC 20/20 & Beyond Master Plan can be found on the Club website.

Over the past twenty-two years, the Princess Anne Family has invested nearly $34 million in aspirational capital enhancements with funding derived from our monthly capital fee, 2003 and 2007 assessments, initiation fees and bank loans with a maturity date in 2028 and a current outstanding balance of approximately $9.4 million. As I enter my ninth year as Treasurer, the capital intensity of The Princess Anne and the unique private club industry becomes more evident each passing year. While we have greatly enhanced our financial position/capital ledger, it is vitally important that we continue to fund significant replacement costs to keep our current facilities fresh while exploring funding options for future aspirational enhancements. The Board and Operations Team remain committed to operating your Club under a sustainable financial model that utilizes capital investments to enhance the Member experience and elevate the Princess Anne’s value to its current and future Members. I look forward to working with the Master Plan Committee, Board, and Team this coming year to strategically adjust financial models to ensure a healthy financial future for our Club.

The faithful support of existing Members is inspiring and the demand to join the Club is at an all-time high! Please know how much I appreciate the opportunity to serve as Treasurer. I look forward to addressing any questions you may have.

2023 - 2024 Unaudited Consolidated Financial Results

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair Amy Metzger

PACC event favorites continue to thrive and our House Committee has grown and shifted to keep up our evolving Member dynamics.

The Oyster Roast along with our holiday festivities remain the most well attended activities! We took some chances this year to determine Member preferences and realized that some former Club favorites are waning in favor of smaller insular activities and family-friendly fun.

A “one more shot” at a big band NYE didn’t captivate Members as we hoped...lagging reservations and low attendance prevailed. Looking ahead we will focus on potential family friendly ways to usher in the New Year in 2025!

As we entered the year with knowledge in hand from our former Club survey, the Team worked on more pop-up events. Wine tastings by the pool, Eggnog Social, Sushi Making Dinner Class and Croquet On The Lawn were just a few opportunities that were very successful, intimate opportunities to socialize with fellow Members this year.

Our golf and tennis Members enthusiastically bring fun and fellowship to our annual tournament parties. While Breakers Boulevard had an iffy summer with a few less than stellar weather weekends, indoor fun like Bingo kept the party going!

The Committee continues to evaluate how to keep Members engaged with a variety of entertainment, best methods of communication to promote events, balancing how to handle RSVPs and ensuring overall balance of Member enjoyment with facilities that are available. As we finish out 2024 and pass the torch to our next committee chair, I am confident that we will continue to collaborate with other committees and outside Club resources to stay relevant with the desires of our Princess Anne family!

FITNESS COMMITTEE

This past year at the PACC Lifestyles Fitness and Wellness Center has been incredibly rewarding, and I’ve truly enjoyed serving as the Fitness Committee Chair. We are fortunate to have an exceptional team of fitness and spa professionals led by our dedicated Fitness & Wellness Director Andrea Pettay.

The Fitness Center’s popularity continues to soar, with a remarkable 11.5% increase in usage compared to last year, averaging over 140 Member visits daily. It’s exciting to see our younger members driving this growth, training alongside seniors, business professionals, and everyone in between. The addition of our new massage therapist Aggie Hansen, and acupuncturist Marjon Faivre has further enhanced our spa services.

Special events like our annual Wellness Week, Fit Pro Open House, and family-friendly Turkey Trot remain hugely popular, alongside our highly regarded TPI golf training program. Our outdoor holiday workouts were a hit, and we continued our tradition of hosting quarterly Red Cross blood drives.

Last year, we completed significant renovations, including new gym flooring and upgraded training equipment. This year, we invested in replacing our 14-year-old exercise benches with new Eleiko models, enhancing functional training equipment, and adding a Concept 2 Ski Trainer to the main gym floor. In the Group Fitness Room, we installed custom blinds and a new dumbbell rack, while the Massage Room received a fantastic upgrade with an Oakworks ProLuxe electric lift spa table and a BioMat.

With the growing interest in health and fitness across all age groups, we anticipate continued popularity for the Fitness Center. We’re excited to offer even more engaging programming and upgraded equipment in 2024-2025 and beyond!

GOLF COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair

In my second year as Golf Committee Chairman, I’ve had the privilege of gaining more insight into the inner workings of our golf program at the Princess Anne. It’s incredible to see how golf continues to shape our community and facility. While rounds have slowly decreased over the last three seasons, the course is still being used far more than before the pandemic. Looking back at fiscal year 2024, it’s clear how much the game still resonates with so many of us. In 2021, we had 29,426 rounds played, 2022 saw 27,602, and this year we dipped to 24,949. With this 10% decrease, tee time availability has improved greatly, and many Members have noticed fewer booking challenges. The trend of walking versus riding continues with 62% of our rounds being walkers. Our Members take great pride in our facilities, and it shows, as guest fees remain a key revenue source, hitting the $215,000 mark for the second consecutive year.

Our Operations Team has been hard at work growing the game, and that’s reflected in the success of our programs. We’re dedicated to creating opportunities for golfers of all ages and abilities. Both the Princess Anne Ladies’ Golf Association (PALG) and the Princess Anne Senior Men’s Golf Association (PASMGA) continue to grow. Our junior golf program is thriving and remains one of the best in the region. The popularity of individual play and the success of organized programs are pushing golf at the Princess Anne to new heights.

The 2024 men’s tournament season was truly one for the books. It started with Nick Szoke claiming his second Green Jacket in April, followed by an outstanding win by David Cockerill and Erick Polumbo in the McClanan

One Day Spring Member-Member. We held our second Member-Guest Lottery, with 100 Members competing for 60 spots, and Harrison Pickett, along with his guest Kyle Ryder, took the title in a dramatic shootout on the final playoff hole. Mike Hays continued his winning ways, taking home another major by securing the Captain L. R. Vail Senior Men’s Club Championship. Congratulations to Brian Hill and Bill Kamerak, our Men’s League Champions, and a special nod to Joe Davis for winning the 2024 Windholz Memorial Match Play event. The Vincent G. Thomas Member-Member saw a special moment when Bob Buckalew and John Gibson triumphed—28 years after their first victory in the same event! As we look to close the season with the Men’s Club Championship, we can expect even more excitement.

Our Princess Anne Lady Golfers had a wonderful 2024 with steady participation under the great leadership of PALG Chair Julie Holland. We averaged 24 players for the Tuesday play days, and we welcomed four new golfers to the association this year. Julie, along with Talbott Jordan (vice-chair), Shay Paisley (secretary), and Anne Gorry (treasurer), have been an exceptional board. I want to personally thank Julie for her two years

of dedicated service as PALG Chair—her commitment to the Club and to women’s golf has been invaluable.

A special congratulations to Babs Neff and Julie Holland for winning the 2024 Leo V. Kernan Ladies MemberMember, and to Alice Striffler, Janis Prock, Donnie Macon, and Mallory Kane for their victory in the Martha Macklin Smith Ladies Member-Guest. Karen Worrall and Jen Clark took home their first Challenge Match title, and kudos to Mary Crandley for her repeat win in the 2024 Joanne R. Neff Ladies Spring Handicap. With both the Ladies Club and Senior Ladies Club Championships still to come, we’re excited to see how the season ends!

The PASMGA had another fantastic year, with a solid 34 players on average turning out for their Wednesday rounds. The camaraderie and spirit of this group make it one of the most social at the Club, and it’s thanks in large part to the leadership of David Durham (president), Mike Clark (vice president), Dr. Scott Miller (secretary), and Jim Gregory (treasurer).

Sunday Mixed Pairs saw a great rebound this year, thanks to the Team’s efforts to make improvements our Members would enjoy. Participation hit a high point, maxing out at 44 players each of the final three weeks. After play, Members enjoyed a buffet and drink specials, often staying to enjoy the camaraderie well into the

evening. With this newfound momentum, we’re looking forward to even more Mixed Pairs excitement in 2025.

Our junior golf program continues to shine, both in participation and quality. This year, we had 40 players in our Beach Junior League, with the Princess Anne team finishing first in the regular season before narrowly falling to Bayville in the finals. Sixtyfive juniors came through our Junior Golf Academy, which remains a cornerstone of our program. Birdie Basics, for ages three to six, was well received by 19 young golfers, laying a strong foundation for the future of the game here at Princess Anne.

Golf outings continue to be a vital source of revenue for the Club. In 2024, we hosted eight Member-sponsored events, generating over $110,000 in golf fees. The Evie Odom Invitational alone brought in over $22,000. These outings are excellent revenue drivers and provide an opportunity to give back to the community through fundraising events for local charities.

One of our ongoing efforts has been the Handicap sub-committee, comprised of Mark Finn, Jeanne Beck, Dennis Casey, Billy Paulson, and Alice Striffler. This group continues to work hard behind the scenes on the often tricky, but necessary, task of managing handicaps. A special thank you to Jeanne Beck and Alice Striffler, who will be stepping down from the committee in 2025. Your dedication is much appreciated.

It’s become a hit with Members, offering a place to improve their game, get instruction, or simply have fun during the winter months or football season. The Operations Team is working on new pricing and packages to make the space even more appealing for 2025, so stay tuned!

Our Golf Operations Team has done an outstanding job, not only in day-to-day service but also in executing tournaments and events with excellence. Keith Cooper, Drew Roberson, and Klara Karteus continue to grow as professionals and are integral to our service-oriented culture. We’re fortunate to have Andrew Brewer as our new Director of Player Development—he’s already made a huge impact, and being named one of Golf Digest’s Top Instructors under 40 is a testament to his talent. A big thank you as well to Erin Courrier, our Golf Shop and Merchandise Manager, who keeps the shop running smoothly and offers Members a shopping experience that’s hard to beat.

In closing, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to my fellow Golf Committee Members. Your time, ideas, and passion for golf at the Princess Anne are truly appreciated. And to Director of Golf Matt Liebler and the entire Operations Team—thank you for your hard work and dedication. We’re lucky to have such an exceptional team, and I can’t wait to see what 2025 has in store.

This year we introduced Beckett’s Bunker, a stateof-the-art golf instruction bay and simulator space.

Evan Beck wins the U.S. Mid-Amateur in his home state of Virginia. He will now tee it up in the Masters in 2025.

GREEN COMMITTEE

Wrapping up the 2023/2024 year for the PACC Green Committee is bitter sweet for myself as my term as Chair comes to an end. I will exit my post proud of what I have learned and what we have accomplished over the past three years. Thank you to my committee and especially to Jordan who is the best in the business, I am proud to call him a friend. We entered this year with six new and thriving tee boxes, and a plan to complete the 12 remaining teeing complexes and embark on building a long overdue short game practice area that was set in motion years ago. If that’s not enough we managed many projects, some foreseen, others not so much.

With the success of the 2022/2023 initial six tee renovation we aggressively asked the Membership to allow us to complete the remaining tees in this 2023/2024 season. We did so with the best interest of the Membership in mind and doing so we successfully completed the project on time and on budget even though Mother Nature threw us some (un) expected curve balls as she does. Today, barely six months after the sod was laid, we are graced with beautiful tee boxes on the entire course. A byproduct of the tee box renovation was the use of the spoils to raise the green side shore line levels on #1 and to compliment the bridge project on #4 by raising the western shoreline substantially. Both improvement areas have successfully curtailed the tidal water infiltration on the course. Also, during the winter project months, Jordan’s team successfully installed multiple drainage systems around the course, primarily on areas of the cart path. This will continue this winter as we tackle our project list.

Last, but not least, by the time most are reading this we will be embarking on our Short Game Practice Area and hole #1 tee reconfiguration project. This project was the vision of past leaders and is coming to fruition starting the second week of October. The project will encompass relocating the #1 tee to capture approximately two acres just to the south of the current tee box. This area will allow us to build a well-appointed Short Game Practice area that will house three separate chipping greens. The tee box will be relocated in the area where the current chipping green is now, adjacent to Linkhorn Drive. We will add a 4,000 square foot putting green across the street behind the range and develop plans to replace the driving range facilities building that will add a restroom and storage.

I hope to remain a part of this Committee and trust our next phase of leadership will complete the tasks at hand and maintain the vision that we, over the past years, have set forth. In writing this I realize what leading this group means and has meant to me. I am fond of you all. Thank you PACC family for entrusting your most precious asset to me over the past three years. I love this Club. I love this golf course. I love my PACC family.

HOUSE COMMITTEE

As my final year as House Committee Chairwoman, I am astounded by the changes and improvements around the clubhouse this year. The Linkhorn Lounge reopened in January with a Mad About Our Members party. The overwhelming feeling of the new space is positive, and Members love the extra room, overall ambiance, and especially the bourbon showcase. We’re excited to unveil the renovations to the tennis bathrooms, which will be completed soon!

Club favorite annual events have consistently reached maximum capacity. Summer Grillin’ & Chillin’ evenings, the Oyster Roast, Thanksgiving, and the three days of Traditional Christmas events have become integral to our Club’s identity. It has been a delight to witness new and old families embracing these timeless Princess Anne traditions, further strengthening our community.

There is overwhelming interest in creating a co-ed space on the lower terrace, and your House Committee has been actively collaborating with operations to find a solution. This upcoming year, we plan to upgrade the lower terrace to an indoor/outdoor venue that will be inviting to both men and women.

The Committee’s meeting with the Breakers Team to provide constructive feedback on the poolside and Breakers menus was a significant

step in our commitment to meeting Member needs. The noticeable improvement in delivery and menu offerings has been met with positive feedback, as evidenced by the monthly comment cards. Revenue was up substantially which is further evidence of all the hard work that the Breakers Team put in this year. They were clearly rewarded by all of the enthusiasm and enjoyment that was evident around the Pool and Breakers Boulevard throughout the summer season.

The main Clubhouse offers a great dining venue, menus and wonderful weekly specials by Chef Benson. Steve Layden has created a veteran Team that ensures the best service, and Alex consistently makes the best Cosmos in town! Add dinner here to your dining rotation, and you won’t be disappointed.

As one of your Board Members, I was involved in strategic master planning. There are exciting opportunities in the coming years, and I was proud to be a voice in these beginning planning stages. I know the Club’s future is in good hands, and its strong governance will continue with future boards. I can’t wait to see what the future holds at the Princess Anne and have been honored to play a small role in its success over the last three years.

MEMBERSHIP ID COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair George Faatz

With a robust waiting list of 155 prospective members, over the past year, Membership ID Committee focused its efforts on reviewing usage and capacity data, reviewing Club rules as they apply to membership, and monitoring the membership cap. With less of a focus on member recruitment, the Committee moved from meeting monthly to as needed.

This fiscal year, we welcomed 46 new families to the Princess Anne, reinstated two previous Members, welcomed back one Member from Leave of Absence and processed eight upgrade requests from current Members. Of those new Members, we are excited that fourteen are legacy Members, with four entering the Membership through the Club’s dependent legacy program.

The Membership cap for Resident Full and Athletic Members remains at 740. In February 2024, the Board approved increasing the Non-Resident Full Membership cap from 160 to 170. At the close of the fiscal year, the Club was at the cap of 740 for Resident Full and Athletic Members and two over the cap for Non-Resident Full Membership due to current Members moving out of the area.

With the support of the Committee, at their February 2024 meeting, the Board of Directors voted to lift the freeze on Social Memberships, permitting Members to join the Club. The Committee will continue to analyze Club usage and make recommendations to the Board should a freeze need to be reinstated.

As the Committee reviewed Club rules, they proposed, and the Board of Directors approved, revising the Leave of Absence rule to include the following: If placed on the waiting list and a space becomes available, the member must activate their membership within 14 days or the membership will be resigned and subject to the Club’s reinstatement rule. If a Member on Leave of Absence is placed on the Waiting List to reactivate, the Member will be responsible for paying capital fees for their membership class while on the Waiting List. Additionally, the Committee analyzed several Club policies and data pertaining to senior membership classifications and a proposed Member code of conduct.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

The Membership Committee is dedicated to ensuring the Princess Anne is comprised of families who uphold the values of our Club and position us for future success. The Club continues to see unprecedented interest in membership, which resulted in 68 applications for membership this year, each of which were thoroughly vetted by the Committee.

With a full membership, it was difficult to anticipate at the year’s onset the revenue that would be generated

Submitted by Chair Sam Steingold

from initiation fees. We are pleased to report that we greatly surpassed our $83,965 initiation fee budget with $717,586 collected.

At the end of the fiscal year, the Club waiting list included 155 applicants waiting to join, upgrade or reactivate their membership. We ended the year with a membership of 1,179 families, nine more than our beginning roster of 1,170.

With the influx in membership interest, the Committee worked to further strengthen vetting procedures. The following questions were added to the membership application: a. Has a nomination of you or your spouse for membership in any social club been declined or withdrawn, or have you been disciplined or suspended by, or removed from, any other social club?

b. Have you or your spouse ever been convicted of, or pleaded guilty or nolo contendere with respect to, a felony or other crime involving moral turpitude or had any professional license suspended or revoked, or surrendered any professional license while under investigation?

c. If you answered yes to either question, please provide details in a separate letter.

In addition, an official endorsement form was developed to assist our Members in providing thorough information about prospective Members as part of the application process. The Committee also worked in conjunction with the Membership ID Committee to develop a Membership Code of Conduct. This code is in its final phases of review and the Committee looks forward to its implementation in the coming year.

Lastly, over the past year, the Committee worked with the Membership ID Committee and Board to analyze data related to Members over the age of 90. This research resulted in the development of the PACC “Golden Circle.” This Membership classification is specifically for Members aged 90 and better with 50 years of Membership tenure. Those Members who meet this criteria will receive a 50 percent reduction in dues and then frozen dues at that level. This reduction and freeze will be coupled with special recognition initiatives to honor our Golden Circle Members.

As we move into 2024-2025, the Membership Committee looks forward to thoroughly vetting all membership applications and welcoming new Members as space becomes available.

POOL COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair

Mark Horton

What an amazing year for our pool and aquatic activities! We kicked the season off with our third annual Spring Splash, which gave our new Members a chance to meet new friends. The pool may have been cold at 57 degrees, but the pizza and cocktails warmed everyone. Most Members jumped off the diving boards, but a couple braved the freezing water and swam the length of the pool once or twice. The tradition will continue next year with our new frozen cannonball competition!

We were incredibly lucky to have a mild spring which helped us get the pool heated a little earlier this year! The air temperatures may have been in the 60’s but our pool warmed up quickly to a steamy 81 degrees in late April. We opened the pool season with both in and out of water activities; from water aerobics to sunset yoga, we strive to find something for all our Members. We look forward to offering new activities next year to enhance our Member experience.

Our Breakers swim team had an amazing season! We should all be proud of this year’s team. We had new personal records set, friendships made, and learning happening around the pool. We introduced our first “Fun Meet” where we paired our younger swimmers with our veterans. The entire pool laughed as our swim coaches made teams race across the pool in fun relays. Have you tried to swim in tandem with a friend holding your feet? The double-decker slide and snow cone truck were a true welcome from the summer heat! We also hosted our league’s divisional meet at the end of the regular swim season. A special thank you to Cliff Cutchins for working with food and beverage and the Golf Team to make sure it all happened without a hitch! The race went so well the division has already asked to host again in 2025.

As I wrap up my first year serving as the Pool Committee Chair, I would like to thank the entire Committee for all the hours and challenging work it takes to make our swim meets happen and keep our pool running!

YOUTH COMMITTEE

As Chair of the Youth Committee, I’m thrilled to look back on what has been an incredible year for children’s events at Princess Anne Country Club. Twenty twenty-four was a year packed with fun, learning, and a strong sense of community, bringing families together and creating lasting memories. Thanks to Taylor and his Team, the youth program offered a wide variety of activities that appealed to every child, and it was great to see such enthusiastic participation from so many club families.

We kicked off the year with an action-packed Tae Kwon Do class and a captivating magic show in January, setting the tone for a year of exciting activities. Spring was filled with family-friendly events, starting with Family Bingo Night and the adventurous Family Safari Night in March. Our Easter celebrations were unforgettable, featuring egg decorating at Breakers, a Children’s Easter Brunch in the Ballroom, and an egg hunt on Breakers Boulevard for all ages. The Spring Break Camp in early April kept children busy with a full week of engaging activities while they were out of school. The annual Father-Daughter Dance was a favorite, as dads and daughters created sweet memories on the dance floor. The Mother-Son Dance brought its own high-energy fun, with Nerf wars and plenty of laughter to go around.

Summer at the club was as lively as ever, with weekly Thursday Crafts on the pool deck from mid-June through mid-August, allowing kids to get creative in the afternoon sun. Our Dive-In Movie Nights were a hit, with children floating in the pool while watching their favorite films. The themed summer camps were the highlight of the season, featuring weeks dedicated to animals, space, superheroes, a magical “Christmas in July” and an imaginative “Under the Sea” week. Career Week saw visits from an ambulance, police cars, and a fire truck, much to the excitement of the kids. The July 4th Party was another standout event, with funfilled games, America-themed prizes, a pie-eating contest for older kids, and entertainment from face painters and a balloon artist. We wrapped up the summer with an exciting Mermaid Pirate Party by the pool in August and a fun back-to-school Nerf War event that closed the summer season on a high note.

In September we saw the return of another Member favorite, the Camp Out Night, where families sleep under the stars, setting up camp on the 18th hole and enjoy fishing, smore’s, and a movie. October is packed with seasonal activities, including an exciting Escape Room visit, Pumpkin Decorating, and the always-popular Fall Festival with a petting zoo, hay rides, and pumpkin bowling. Our Children’s Halloween event brings trick or treating to the club house for our youngest members. During the holiday season, family-friendly Movie Nights on the Range in November and holiday magic was brought to life with events like the Nutcracker Tea, Elf Movie Party, and Santafest, where children enjoyed time with Santa and plenty of festive cheer. We wrapped up the year with our Mini Winter Break Camp to keep the little ones busy between the holidays. This has been a remarkable and successful year for the children at Princess Anne Country Club. The dedication of Taylor Nelson and his staff helped make every event a success. I look forward to continuing this momentum in 2025 and can’t wait to see what lies ahead for our youth programs.

WINE COMMITTEE

Submitted by Chair Gray Randolph

Hello, wine lovers!

We had another very strong year in wine sales at the PACC. One thing is for sure: we are a group of enthusiasts for Cabernet and Chardonnay. As the number one seller, Cabernet is king both nationally and at the PACC. Cabernet sales are closely followed by Chardonnay, with Pinot Noir and Rosé rounding out the top four sellers. Napa Valley has seen a slight shift away from the heavy, fruity and jammy styles of Cabernet; however, Quilt—a wine very much in that style—has taken the number one top seller spot, with Sonoma-Cutrer nipping at its heels in the number two position. Wine styles are always shifting as consumer palates change. A few years ago, massive amounts of oak aging were used in making Chardonnay, but that style has moderated to lighter levels, allowing the grapes to shine and achieving a nice balance in the wine. Sonoma-Cutrer has excelled in this, and it’s clear our Members have discovered and love it.

Our total sales numbers are near record levels, though not quite as high as during the pandemic. It’s evident that the membership appreciates the convenience and pricing of the wine program here at the PACC. It’s always fun to review the top-selling wines: Quilt, SonomaCutrer, Dairyman, William Hill, Clark and Telephone, Caymus and Trefethen are all big sellers.

The comment I hear most often is, “I can’t drink red wine because the sulfites give me a headache, but European wines don’t have them.” This is an interesting comment because European wines do contain sulfites, just like many lunch meats. My suggestion is to check the alcohol content of your wine. If your red wine has an ABV over 15.5% or your white wine over 14.5%, you might want to put on a seatbelt—or maybe even a football helmet, as those can lead to headaches. Also, ensure you are hydrated before your evening festivities, as that may help your chances. Another factor to consider is tannin levels, which tend to be higher in oak-aged wines. Thicker-skinned varietals like Tannat and Syrah can also deliver higher tannin levels during pressing and the winemaking process.

This harvest was fairly smooth in Napa and Sonoma, though a bit wet in Europe. In Napa and Sonoma, we experienced a few manageable heat spikes, which are relatively normal. The wines of 2024 should be solid from U.S. producers, and we anticipate a good year from Europe as well. Here’s to another great year in wine in 2024! Cheers to 2025!
