The Discipleship Board is commissioned by the PUMC Leadership Board to implement discipleship ministries that align with our mission, vision, and values We are called to provide a meaningful discipleship path for everyone who seeks to grow as disciples of Christ Our Beloved Community has been blessed by the quality and quantity of ministry programs offered by our gifted staff and devoted lay leaders and ministry teams The Discipleship Board now combines the responsibilities and roles of the four vital ministry areas of the church: Formation/Nurture, Missions/Outreach, Worship/Inspire and Membership/Growth & Care,The blending of these ministry areas under the leadership of a single board is an exciting change for our church and promises to provide a deeper and broader discipleship path by integrating and coordinating these ministry roles
At our first meeting, we explored the essential spirituality types, and the deepening nature of the discipleship journey We are committed to providing ministry programs that will be a good match for individuals who identify with these characteristics, and will stretch and grow those on the discipleship path. We also laid out the current status of our four vital ministry responsibilities, including the staff and laity who are taking responsibility for maintaining the operations of these ministries as we engage in the critical actions laid out by our Strategic Vision Plan. Finally, we reviewed that Strategic Vision Plan and the near term goals set forth in that document that are meant to lead our community forward
The Leadership Board is responsible for identifying the initial priorities from the recommendations put forward in the Strategic Plan Our board will have input, as will our clergy and staff. At our next meeting, the Discipleship Board will begin to create task forces to implement the recommendations We will be reaching out to our Beloved Community (you!) to participate on these task forces. We hope you will join our efforts to set the wheels in motion towards living into our mission: ..”to grow as disciples of Christ, so that together we may experience the fullness of life”
