PASSIVE INCOME STREAM Generally when people think about buying print over the internet the most common print brand associated with doing so is Vista Print. Vista Print have spent millions of dollars over a number of years to establish their market presence. In a similar vein, so have we. The new printing.com website now allows customers to pick an editable template online, choosing from a genre that suits them, edit in their details, choose a product and then pay for that product - all without involving a franchise. From our experience these customers tend to be 'start-ups', part time business owners, hobbyists' and small office/home office clients. They don't want to spend money on 'expensive designers' and by possibly being part of the Facebook Generation, want to 'design their own' products. When a customer places an order online and they do so within a franchise's ORA (Online Referral Area), the franchise not only receives

the margin from the job but also the customers details. We think it would be ignorant to assume that the customer will only ever order this way - so the franchise gets the opportunity to grow the relationship with that customer. Each franchise has the ability to be plumbed in to this passive income stream. In order to participate, each franchise must be trained in and promote the use of the printing.com online tools. From our experience this only makes sense as it allows a business to sell more with the same level of resource.

marketing collateral available for you to promote ‘Offer of the Month’
Offer of the Month ‘Offer of the Month’ (OOTM) provides a regular opportunity for printing.com to ‘shout about’ the latest deals. These offers provide a mechanism for Franchise to attract new clients as well as reach out to the existing client base. Often half-price, the private transfer (trade) price paid by Franchise is also discounted proportionally. As a Franchise Partner you have access to marketing collateral (mailers, posters and e-business tools) to promote the Offer of the Month.

our printed samples include detailed specifications and prices for quick and easy reference
ONLINE MARKETING Website The printing.com website is the centre of online ordering and marketing. Here we advertise our Offer Of The Month sales as well as additional sales we have throughout the year. Clients can go onto the website and get an instant quote as well as place, process and pay for their order.
Online Orders The printing.com website itself has been enhanced so that new clients can order online. Every Franchise has their own online referral area. This means that the online order is transferred directly to the Franchise Studio. To facilitate this, Franchise Partners must integrate ‘PayPal’ and promote certain online services locally. The ownership of the client is then passed onto the Franchise Studio.
The Client Dashboard Your clients ‘sign in’ to do business with you via their ‘Dashboard’. This helps the client to navigate to the right functionality. This could include finding an old job so they can order an updated version or adding or reviewing their brand collateral via the ‘digital asset store’. They could also place an order with you directly via a template that you had previously set up for them.

Bullet Proof Instead of having to remember login details or passwords, your client accesses their proof via a ‘token’ embedded in an email, automatically generated by w3p ®. This means that accessing their proof is just as simple as clicking on the link in the email. ‘Bullet Proof’ simplifies the proofing process for the jobs you design for your clients.
stream-lining the online ordering system
You enjoy peace of mind knowing your client is accessing a proof that provides them with the necessary detail, but not in a format that could be sent to your competitors. If the proof is downloaded, a watermark is automatically added.

SIMPLY A MORE STRUCTURED & DISCIPLINED APPROACH Case study: making business cards profitable Clients love our Luxury Matt Laminated Business Cards – they sell for $119+GST for a box of 500. Every year, we sell approximately 7,000 sets with a total sales value in excess of $1 million. However, there are certain ‘dos and don’ts’ that the Franchisee must observe if the clients are to keep coming back for more. For example, if a dark colour is printed to the edge of one of our unlaminated cards, it is likely to exhibit ‘chipping’. This is inherent in the manufacturing process, and isn’t due to faulty board or blunt guillotine blades: The solution is to change the design, or opt for a different product. Franchisees receive a minimum of five days of classroom training in ‘PDCQ’ Quality methodologies, ensuring a disciplined supply chain.

There are many web-to-print systems used throughout the printing industry. BrandDemand has been developed by printing.com to provide the most intuitive and intelligent user experience for multi-site corporates or distributed franchise networks.
web-2-print templates are made directly from Adobe InDesign
We know there are many differences between a franchise network and a typical corporate - in particular ‘Who pays for what? BrandDemand allows the Franchise Marketing Manager to make print buying work the way their franchise structure works. Local purchasing or national campaigns, BrandDemand can be adapted to suit. In principle, BrandDemand permits a ‘Franchisee’ to access any product from the complete printing.com range. However, during the commissioning of the system, the Franchise Marketing Manager has the scope to predetermine which individual specifications are appropriate for their brand. Irrespective of which products are made available, Franchisees (or indeed the Franchisor depending on who is paying) are presented with clear and transparent information in respect of all aspects of the given order e.g. product specification, price, turn around etc. The Offer of the Month (OOTM) is an important element of the printing.com service. These offers range from 2-4-1 deals (useful in the case of business cards) through to 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% discounts. Importantly, these offers are available via the BrandDemand system, to Franchisees and Franchisors alike–adding the scope for further financial savings.
templates are easy to edit for the end user
Each printing.com Franchisee who promotes and has active customers online, post training, has a direct mechanism for selling into franchise systems and multi-site corporates. To revisit the simple logic behind this system, it’s about the customers being able to edit and place their orders online with minimal or no ‘touch’ from the printing.com franchisee.

At time of press TemplateCloud® consisted of nearly 12,500 templates crowd sourced from a variety of freelance graphic designers. They cover a multitude of business sectors, from plumbers to plasterers and garages to gardeners. By accessing the TemplateCloud® library through w3p® this provides another option for micro business clients. Essentially, you can miss out the traditional graphic design stage and simply edit a TemplateCloud® design. This enables high quality graphic design to be delivered without the skills of a professional graphic designer.

Of course, TemplateCloud® does not replace bespoke professional graphic design, it simply provides an alternative option. This could be utilised when client budgets are restricted..
Editable templates - online The reality of how our marketplace is evolving is seeing work in the lower sub segment shift online. Company’s today who refuse to recognise this threat to traditional print transactions and customer interface (and be pro-active) are likened to those who said that ‘digital printing would never catch on’. Hundreds of our clients use printing.com’s online tools to make their lives easier. They’re free to use. Each customer has access to their own online interface which we call ‘my.printing.com’. It allows access to their personalised editable templates as well as all of the other printing.com online tools. Here are ten ways your customers can work smarter by using printing. com’s online tools: 1. Edit designs themselves online (personalised and/or generic templates), 2. FAQs What happens if you fail to despatch an order on time? Our on-time success rate is 99.8%, that’s up 0.1% on last year. This year we’re determined to make our service even more assured. When we do fail, there is a predetermined scale of recompense that reflects your loss and your admin time.
What training and support is available to me? Initial training is provided from Head Office over a 2 week period. Week 1 is classroom training based out of the Wellington based Hub. Week 2 is an in-studio practical week based in the Wellington CBD studio. Franchise Partners are also allocated a Business Development Manager to support them as they start their printing. com journey, beginning with an on-site ‘Power Week’. On-going development is available via regional training courses and weekly webinars. See page 8 for more details.
Do I automatically get referrals from the website? In order to receive leads automatically from the printing. com website you must sign up to one of our payment gateways PayPal and be actively promoting the online template offering in your area.
I’m not sure I want to only use printing.com as my primary supplier of print Then start off simply, become a White Label instead. Great opportunity for businesses that want to partner with us with a more ‘under the table’ view.
What if your press breaks down? Will my job be late?
Can I download TemplateCloud® designs? TemplateCloud ® designs are crowd sourced from freelance graphic designers who retain the copyright to their designs. When editing a design in the TemplateCloud ® library Franchise Partners will be able to access the PDF and, if required, the InDesign file.
Fotolia® – what’s the catch? There isn’t. The same Fotolia ® terms and conditions apply, you just access them at a discounted rate!
Can I determine the retail price point? You can discount, should that be necessary, but you can’t exceed the stated retail price. However, you determine the artwork fees for each order, which provides a degree of price flexibility.
What is so good about your w3p software? Above all the standard benefits you receive with a web-toprint solution, the w3p ® software removes the headache of sourcing print providing a guaranteed supply chain. In addition, our web-2-print module opens doors to larger organisations.
Payment terms? The monthly fee and the system charges are charged monthly by direct debit. Payment terms of 30, days will be offered.
How long am I tied in for? An initial term of 3 years, with 6 months’ notice thereafter.
There’s something else I’d like to ask / I’d like to take things further You can contact our Regional Director, adam.still@printing.com or contact our General Manager (see reverse for details).
We have made contingencies at every critical stage of production to ensure that a breakdown in the middle of the night won’t affect the all-important turnaround.
