The Digital Frontier.... Is Your New Best Friend

The Digital Frontier…is your new best friend by Jere Mahaffey An obvious fact: social media is changing the way today’s generation relates, communicates, learns, and informs. Breaking news comes in 140 characters to your Twitter feed, and if you really want to know what an organization is about, their Facebook page is a goto reference point. An easy way to expand your church’s presence and relevance is with a solid social media presence. Social media can help your church promote, inform, and engage dialogue with your community. Here are some tips to help your church get started: ●

Start with Facebook. Even if your church does not have a website, a Facebook page is easy to set up and can provide basic information about your church. Build your church’s relevance with the simple promo “Like us on Facebook!” Consider a website. If this seems too difficult or pricey for your church, purchase a domain name (yourchurchname.com) and re-direct it to a free and easily maintained site, like Tumblr or Wordpress. Twitter and blogging are great. However, these forms of media require regular updating. Wait until your church is able to maintain a solid presence before entering the Twitter-verse or blogosphere.
