Welcome to the new issue of the ‘personalised charm’ magazine 2025!

“Happy is he who can make happy.” This motto accompanies and inspires us every day in our training as a mediamaticians at Private Selection Hotels & Tours. We are responsible for the graphic and creative content in all print and online media, design and websites and create photo and video material for various formats. Together with all employees in the 49 Private Selection Hotels, we contribute that you, dear guests, can enjoy unforgettable experiences with us. In the following sections, we would like to give you a brief insight into the activities that Private Selection Hotels & Tours undertakes to promote us employees in various areas and to support personal and professional development.

We are shaping a more sustainable future

In April 2024, 45 apprentices from 15 different Private Selection Hotels took part in the Climate Company Challenge, in which we developed in groups specific sustainability projects for the hotels. A workshop was held at the beginning where we actively addressed the issue of climate change. Afterwards, all the apprentices together invested around 1,890 hours in the various projects. At the end, there was a public vote and a project award by a jury of experts. The Climate Challenge was a lot of fun for all of us and showed us how we can act more sustainably in our professional and private every day life.

We network and are constantly learning We look forward to offering a learner exchange in the future. This will involve the apprentices from different hotel departments have the opportunity to learn new languages during their apprenticeship and get to know different Private Selection Hotels. For 2 to 3 weeks, they can gain valuable practical experience in a member hotel and discover the local language and culture.

The Ionian Coast – Sicily’s east coast – stretches from Catania, the harbour town built from lava stone, along charming fishing villages and romantic beaches until the magic ancient Greek city of Taormina. Arrival day (Day 1): Arrival in Catania. After a short drive along the east coast (49 km), arrive at the Hotel Villa Neri Resort & Spa. Check-in. Day 1: Arrival and making your first tracks

Make your first tracks on the cross-country trails on the day of arrival and afterwards enjoy the spacious wellness and spa area of the Cresta Palace Hotel and look forward to an enjoyable dinner in the stylish hotel restaurant.

Day 2: Glide like the cross-country skiing pros on the famous marathon trail across the Engadine lake district

After a hearty breakfast, you set off on the first stage of your cross-country skiing tour in the cross-country paradise. What do your muscles say? Are you in the mood for an extensive, sporty tour, or would you prefer a leisurely one? For the longer option (16 kilometres), take the bus to Sils-Maria and glide like a cross-country skiing pro on the famous Engadine marathon route over the Silvaplana and Champfer lakes to St. Moritz, past Lake St. Moritz to the magical Lake Staz. Here, the lakeside restaurant

invites you to take a breather with a cup of tea before tackling the last section through the enchanting Staz forest to Pontresina. For the shorter option (7 km) you start your cross-country skiing adventure in St. Moritz. Once you arrive at the hotel in Pontresina relax your muscles in the wellness & spa area, before enjoying a gourmet dinner in the evening.

Day 3: Continue along the marathon route along the snow-covered Inn

Thanks to a hearty breakfast, you are well prepared for the second stage of your cross-country skiing adventure. Glide gently for 16 kilometres alongside the snow-covered Inn on the paradisiacal silver tracks of the marathon route until you reach Zuoz. There you will be picked up by your hosts at the Hotel Castell and driven to the “castle“. An impressive hotel world awaits you between art, nature, culinary delights and wellbeing. Your comfortable room with a view over the entire valley invites you to relax.

Day 4: Enjoy the soothing tranquillity of Val Bever

Rested and refreshed, you set off on the last stage of your cross-country skiing adventure. First, take the Rhaetian Railway to Spinas, where you can easily access the cross-country trail in the immediate vicinity of the railway station. The trail then winds its way gently downhill along the railway line of the famous red train from Spinas to Bever. Let the fascinating fairytale backdrop of the surrounding peaks and the beautiful Val Bever have an effect on you and listen attentively to your own breathing and the sound of the cross-country skis. Arriving in the village of Bever, you will find another connection to the marathon trail, which takes you back to Celerina via the aerodrome. Day 1: Mystic Lej da Staz

Day 2: Impressive glacier views in Val Roseg

After a restful night at the hotel in Pontresina, the winter hiking trail takes you to the car-free Val Roseg. The picturesque valley offers you views of the Sella Group and the Roseg glacier. Day 3: Soothing tranquillity in Val Bever

From the Hotel Castell you hike rested first to Madulain and further along the Inn river to Bever. There you follow the Beverin stream over snow-covered plains and through enchanting forests to Spinas. Your constant companion: the pleasant tranquillity. After arriving in Spinas the Rhaetian Railway takes you comfortably back to Celerina, where you will once again be warmly welcomed at the Hotel Cresta Palace.

Day 1 (and 2): (Pre)relax at the Hotel Hof Weissbad

Your journey starts with a 1- or 2-night stay at the Hotel Hof Weissbad where you can leave your everyday life behind and simply feel good. Day 2 (or 3): From Bühler through the picturesque Appenzell landscape to Heiden

Your hiking experience begins in the Appenzell village of Bühler, where you hike through gently rolling hills and lush green pastures. After a first ascent, you can quench your thirst in the “Hohe Buche“ restaurant with a great view of nature in the Alpstein. The path leads you on to Trogen. There, in the streets

and alleyways around the village square, you can admire the precisely arranged wooden farmhouses and factory buildings. Trogen is also known for the Pestalozzi Children’s Village, which was built after the Second World War for orphans affected by the war and continues to support children in Switzerland and all over the world.

For leisurely hikers, the experience only starts in Trogen. The Alpine Panorama Trail leads via Chastenloch over a steep ascent to Rehetobel. From there, your stamina is once again called for, to reach the highest point of this stage, the Kaienspitz at 1,122 m above sea level. You will be rewarded with a magnificent view of the Alpstein and the Säntis. The route then descends to Heiden, a village in Biedermeier style, which lies on a sunny terrace high above Lake Constance. Here it is worth taking a detour to the museum of Henry Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, who spent the last 23 years of his life in Heiden. Or discover the Biedermeier village from a bird’s eye view from the church tower – the 157 steps up to the tower room are well worth it! You can also look forward to an extensive wellness visit at the Hotel Heiden to relax. Indulge in a 4-course dinner in the evening.

Day 3 (or 4): Leisurely coasting along the shores of Lake Constance to Horn

After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast at the Hotel Heiden, the second leg of your hiking adventure awaits you the next morning. ITINERARY

Arrival in Arosa: Arrive and enjoy Start your journey with a stay at Blatter’s Arosa Hotel. Arrive and enjoy warm hospitality is the motto here! In the hotel’s own Bella Vista wellness centre, body and mind come to rest and in the evening let yourself be spoilt by the fresh and regional gourmet cuisine.

Day 1: Arosa – Davos for those with a head for heights Well rested and energised, you start your hiking adventure the next morning. From Arosa, the trail glides down to the Isel reservoir, winds its way up through the mountain forest and reveals breathtaking views of the Arosa peaks. Past Medergen, a rustic Walser village from the 14th century with dark, densely packed wooden houses and the inviting Alpenrose mountain restaurant. The path continues to lure you to hidden gems such as the Seeboden lake and reaches the dizzying ”Tritt“ at the Latschüelfurgga pass crossing. The ”Tritt“ stands for a steep step that has been ”defused” with a ladder”, which is over 220 steps long. On the side there is a thick wire rope to hold on to, which means that the steep step is for those with a head for heights. After the breathtaking pass the view of Davos’ mountains opens up. From here, the path descends steeply towards Schatzalp, where the last 250 metres downhill to Davos Platz can be made by Schatzalp railway, which is easier on the knees. In Davos Platz you will be welcomed at Grischa – DAS Hotel Davos with a hearty welcome and where your luggage is already waiting for you.

Day 1: Option for those who have no head for heights Arosa – Davos Frauenkirch

Your hike begins in idyllic Arosa, where you walk along the picturesque Untersee lake and gently descend towards the Plessur river. On the historic path of the Walser Trail, you then take the steady ascent to Maienfelder Furgga. With every step on this traditional path, you immerse yourself deeper into history. Staying true to the Walser Trail, you finally reach Davos Frauenkirch. Here it is only a stone’s throw – a four-minute train journey – and you find yourself in the heart of Davos Platz.

Day 2: Davos – Scalettapass – S-chanf

After a hearty breakfast, the second stage of your Graubünden hiking adventure awaits you. The bus will take you from Davos Platz to Davos Dischma, Dürrboden. From here you continue on foot while you immerse yourself in the marvellous natural beauty

of the surrounding mountains. On the way up to the Scalettapass you cross the wild and romantic valley of Dischma. After about 2 hours you finally reach the Scaletta Pass, which at 2,606 metres is the highest point of the former mule track. Continue along the rippling mountain stream through the Susauna valley for the descent into the Engadine. After about 3.5 hours you will reach La Resgia. From here you can take the bus to Zuoz at the Chapella bus stop or walk the distance to S-chanf (approx. 1 hour) or Zuoz (1.5 hours). Please contact your hosts at the Hotel Castell in advance, where you will spend your next night, and they will pick you up in S-chanf or Zuoz.

Day 3: Zuoz – Celerina

After a hearty breakfast, you hike from Zuoz to the quiet village of Madulain, the smallest municipality in the Upper Engadine. Further on the panoramic high-level hiking trail takes you past La Punt, Bever and Samedan to Celerina. This option takes approx. 4.5 hours.

However, you have the option of changing to buses and trains en route,to shorten the hike. As an easier option, we recommend the attractive hiking route from Zuoz to Bever. At the bus stop Bever, village centre, take bus no. 6 in the direction of Celerina/St. Moritz. This takes you every hour at XX.56 and also at midday at XX.26 in 15 minutes to the Cresta Palace bus stop, which is directly opposite your next accommodation – the Cresta Palace Hotel. Here you can enjoy relaxing moments in the Vita Pura Spa, where you can loosen your muscles.

OUR TIP: stay 2 nights at the Hotel Castell in Zuoz and enjoy another day of hiking, for example with a detour to the wildlife-rich Val Trupchun in the centre of the Swiss National Park.

Hiking from Lake Geneva to Lake Lauenen

Hike through the most beautiful mountain landscapes from Lake Geneva to Lake Lauenen in the Saanenland. This medium-difficulty multi-day hike leads through various landscapes and linguistic regions and promises plenty of enjoyment, for example thanks to some Fribourg AOP products. At the end of each stage, pure relaxation and culinary delights await you – a hiking experience in a class of its own.

ITINERARY

Day 1: On the Alpine Panorama Trail from Lake Geneva to the Gruyère region

After your arrival at Lake Geneva, hand over your luggage in Vevey for transport to the hotel (for an extra charge of CHF 35 per person) and follow the Pléiades trail through a wild and romantic pre-Alpine landscape. Enjoy the breathtaking view over Lake Geneva, the Dents du Midi and Mont Blanc. In the idyllic Les Paccots, the newly opened Boutique Hotel Corbetta awaits you with cosy rooms, local wooden décor, regional specialities and a small but excellent spa where you can relax.

Day 2: In Gruyère, the home of Switzerland’s favourite cheese

The breakfast buffet the next morning provides a culinary insight into the canton of Fribourg: Cuchaule (a saffron bread), Jambon de la Borne (camembert-smoked ham) and Gruyère cheese are AOP products that can only be found in this quality in the canton itself. The hike from Les Paccots to Gruyères reveals striking aspects of the region’s landscape. Up through the rustic forest, along the foot of the Teysachaux and Moléson towards Gruyère. Alpine huts in typical Fribourg style are scattered here and there. Around 30 of them produce Gruyère AOP, the hard cheese that was probably the first cheese to be exported on a large scale in the Middle Ages. With a view first of Lake Gruyère and later of the small town of Gruyères, the route descends swiftly across alpine meadows to the

stage destination of Gruyères. Visit the Maison du Gruyère before immersing yourself in the enchanting medieval town of Gruyère perched on the hill. After a short bus ride, you will reach Charmey and the Hotel Cailler. Relax in the Bains de la Gruyère with a water landscape of more than 650 m (free admission included) and enjoy regional specialities with a French twist in the hotel bistro in the evening.

Day 3: Along the unique Gastlosen mountain chain

On the third stage, you can hear just how diverse Switzerland is in terms of languages. While French is spoken in Charmey, Jaun, just ten minutes away by bus, is characterised by a distinctive German

dialect. On the Jaun Pass, in Bernese territory, Simmental dialect is spoken. From Jaun, the chairlift takes you comfortably to the mountain lodge Gastlosen –the starting point for a panoramic hike in a class of its own. Captivated by the sight of the impressive Gastlosen mountain chain – also known as the “Swiss Dolomites” due to their striking shape – you set off in the direction of Gstaad-Schönried, with an optional detour to the Gruben mountain lodge. On arrival at the ERMITAGE Wellness- & Spa-Hotel, enjoy a delicious snack with homemade cakes and tarts. Relax your strained muscles in the spacious wellness area with outdoor saltwater pool and round off the day with a delicious multi-course dinner. Pure pleasure!

Day 4: From a luxurious holiday resort to a small hideaway in the heart of unspoilt nature

And then continue on foot through the fascinating mountain world of the Saanenland. ITINERARY

Day 1: Travelling to Lipperswil:

Travel comfortably by train to Weinfelden and from there by post bus to the Wellnesshotel Golf Panorama. If you are travelling by your own car, there is a free outdoor car park available.

Day 2: Through vineyards and beautiful forests

Your bike tour starts after a restful night at the Wellnesshotel Golf Panorama in the canton of Thurgau. The cycle path via Steckborn leads through vineyards and beautiful woodlands and along the lake to the little medieval town of Stein am Rhein. It is definitely worth making a stop here. Continue to Radolfzell to the bora HotSpaResort. Your luggage awaits you as well as a cosy time-out in the wellness area.

Day 3: Always along the lake

You start your second stage after a hearty breakfast and cycle to Konstanz-Staad, where you can take the ferry to Meersburg. As excursion tips before your ferry journey we recommend a stopover in Constance and/or a visit to the beautiful flower island

of Mainau. Please note that you are not able to take your bicycle onto the island of Mainau and the ferry tickets for you and your bike are not included. From Meersburg you cycle along the beautiful Lake Constance to Friedrichshafen.

Day 4: Recreational trip to Lindau

From the picturesque town of Friedrichshafen, the route winds along the Eriskirch marsh. The route quickly continues to Nonnenhorn, and around the dreamy bay to the tranquil Wasserburg peninsula. The destination of today’s stage: the historic island town of Lindau.

Day 5: Via Bregenz further and further along the lake

The route leads via Lochau, Bregenz and Hard to Horn. Enjoy a break in the beautiful Hard nature reserve, where you will find plenty of cosy places to sit. Follow the signposts everywhere in the direction of Rorschach and Horn to the Bad Horn Hotel & Spa.

Day 6: Between apple trees and lake bays

Enjoy a wonderful ride along the Lake Constance cycle path past numerous Thurgau apple trees to Kreuzlingen. This section is a real natural spectacle, especially in spring: the buzzing of bees and a beautiful sea of flowers as far as the eye can see. Not to mention the two picturesque harbour towns of Arbon and Romanshorn – both definitely worth a visit! From Kreuzlingen the route leads across meadows and forests back to the Wellnesshotel Golf Panorama, the last stage of your bike tour.

Cycle along the Rhone Route No. 1 – the ultimate experience for anyone who loves long e-bike or gravel bike tours. Experience 3 days of cycling fun including luggage transport and discover the majestic Valais mountains, the picturesque Rhone valley and the impressive expanses of Lake Geneva.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Individual journey to Saas-Fee

You travel individually by train to Saas-Fee. At the Walliserhof Grand-Hotel & Spa you can relax on 2,100 m². In the evening, enjoy a 4-course dinner and be enchanted by the luxurious ambience.

Day 2: Via Visp past Sierre and Sion to Martigny

After a rich breakfast, you have the choice of starting your tour in Saas-Fee and whizz down the pass road to Visp or start your cycle tour in Visp. From Visp you cycle through the charming Valais village of Baltschieder, where the typical black-nosed sheep frolic in the pastures. Continue to Raron, the so-called ‘Rilkedorf’, which is famous for its connection to the poet Rainer Maria Rilke and reflects the inspiring inspiring landscape of the Valais. You continue on and reach Leuk – from here there are vineyards as far as the eye can see. The route continues through the unique natural landscape of the Pfynwald Nature Park. You continue to Sierre, the ‘town of a hundred hills’, before travelling along the river, where the ‘La Navisence’ flows into the Rhone. Here small sandbanks invite you to take a refreshing break. Follow the route with beautiful views of the vineyards, the turquoise-coloured waters of Lac de la Brèche and the marshy landscape of Pouta Fontana. You reach the lively cantonal capital of Sion with its impressive rock bastions of Valère and Tourbillon. The stage continues past the Aproz mineral water spring, through the orchards and vineyards of the Lower Valais. On the outskirts of Martigny, an exciting mix of history and modernity

awaits you. You will be eagerly awaited at the Hotel Vatel. Treat yourself to a delicious Valais white wine with your aperitif and round off the evening with a delicious multi-course meal. For art lovers, we recommend a detour to the the famous Fondation Pierre Gianadda.

Day 3: From the Rhone Valley to Lake Geneva

Evionnaz which is home to frogs, kingfishers and butterflies. The route continues into the narrow valley near Saint-Maurice. From Saint-Maurice the route takes a relaxed route through

the Chablais region to Bouveret, where the Rhone flows into Lake Geneva. Awaiting you is the beautiful ‘Petit Camargue’ nature reserve, which invites you to enjoy a leisurely cycle. Shortly afterwards, the view opens up onto Lake Geneva. This is where the tranquillity ends and the hustle and bustle around Chillon Castle and Montreux begins. Panoramic views of the lake and the lively flair of these famous towns. In Vevey, the cycle path dips into the steep vineyards up and down the steep vineyards of Lavaux (UNESCO World Heritage Site). You the beautiful wine villages of St-Saphorin, Epesses and Lutry. The wine route ends in Lutry and it is only around five kilometres to Lausanne-Ouchy, your destination for today. On arrival, visit the Olympic Museum, stroll along the lakeside promenade or take the metro to the enchanting told town of Lausanne, which boasts a magnificent Gothic cathedral. As Lausanne has so much to offer, we have not reserved dinner for you. On request we will book a table in your beautiful 4-star hotel in Lausanne Ouchy.

Day 4: Onwards and upwards along Lake Geneva to Prangins

Get on your bike one last time to tackle the final stage of your Rhone tour. Follow the shores of Lake Geneva. A beautiful section stretches between St-Sulpice and Préverenges, where the Venoge, a 38-kilometre tributary of Lake Geneva, flows into the lake. Sandy beaches and sunbathing lawns invite you to linger before continuing to Morges. Leave the old town centre and follow the cycle route on the shores of Lake Geneva. Once you arrive in Rolle, it is worth visiting the elongated little town with its four-towered castle and the bourgeois and winegrowers’ houses. Follow the signposts in the direction of Nyon and leave Route 1 in Prangins and follow the direction of the lakeshore. Your destination for today: The Hotel La Barcarolle, directly on the shores of Lake Geneva. Thanks to the direct access to the lake, refresh yourself after your arrival with a swim. In the evening, a dinner awaits you in the form of Wine & Dine, where you can enjoy a delicious glass of wine with each course.

Day 5: Individual journey home

Enjoy a generous breakfast buffet once again before you start your individual journey home.

Bike tour along the lake route

The Lakes Route takes you from Lake Geneva via the Gruyère region across the Bernese Oberland to Lake Lucerne. You cycle by (e-)bike through the ‘La Gruyère’ region, over the Jaun Pass to Gstaad-Schönried, continuing along Lake Thun and Lake Brienz over the Brünig Pass to Sarnen.

ITINERARY

Day 1: From Lake Geneva to the mountains of the Gruyère region

You start your bike tour in Montreux and follow Lake Geneva along the cycle route 9 “Lake Route“ to Vevey. Enjoy the Mediterranean feeling of Lake Geneva one last time before immersing yourself in the mountains of Gruyère. In Châtel-St-Denis, instead of following the route to the left, turn right at the roundabout and continue to Les Paccots and the Boutique Hotel Corbetta.

Day 2: In Switzerland’s cheese and chocolate paradise

The next morning, you cycle back to Bulle via Châtel-Saint-Denis on the lake route no. 9. Continue with a short diversion to the picturesque town of Gruyères, which is world-famous thanks to its castle and medieval walls. In Pringy, at the bottom of the valley experience the production of Gruyère cheese up close at the Maison du Gruyère. Here you change to the Alpine Panorama Route No. 4 to Broc, home of the Cailler chocolate. An optional detour takes you to the Lac de la Gruyère. Continue cycling along Route 59 via Lac de Montasalvens to Charmey. At the Hotel Cailler, which is directly connected to the “Les Bains de la Gruyère“, you have earned a break after all these impressions.

Day 3: Through the Gruyère Nature Park

Your cycle tour starts the next day with a crossing through the Gruyère Nature Park. The cycle path takes you past alpine meadows, and wooded areas. The wild and romantic Grischbach valley

before Gstaad offers wonderful views of the park landscape and winding roads for a lively biking adventure! At the ERMITAGE Wellness- & Spa-Hotel, you will be eagerly awaited. Enjoy the large wellness and spa facilities and treat yourself to a gourmet dinner.

Day 4: Tradition in the Simmental

You whizz down the Simmental valley on the saddle of your bike to the unequal Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. But don’t cycle too fast, otherwise you will miss the artistically decorated wooden houses, the numerous old bridges, the steep mountain faces and the impressive waterfalls. After about three hours you reach the charming

town of Spiez, nestled in the bay of Lake Thun. Spiez, with the Hotel Eden Spiez, where you can recover from the cycling stage.

Day 5: Deep clear mountain lakes and a winding pass

This cycle route will amaze you as it takes you along Lake Thun to the world-famous resort of Interlaken, at the foot of the impressive triumvirate: the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The absolute highlight is the path along the shore of the deep turquoise-blue Lake Brienz. Once you reach the end of the lake, follow the Aare as far as Unterbach. Now it’s time to pedal hard and off you go over the winding Brünig Pass. Once at the top, you will be rewarded for your efforts by the glistening waters of the idyllic natural reservoir. Then, at the end of the toughest stage of the Lake Route, a rapid descent down to Lake Sarnen, where the Seehotel Wilerbad Spa & Seminar invites you to relax and enjoy.

Day 6: On the trail of glassblowing

Get in the saddle one last time and cycle past Lake Sarnen to Lake Lucerne with its beautiful mountain backdrop. Soon you will pass the municipality of Hergiswil which is famous for the Siegwart brothers’ glassworks, who have been making glass here for over 200 years. Visit the museum and marvel at how the glassblowers skilfully transform the the glowing mass into glass or blow your own glass. The tour then continues to Lucerne, where you can visit the landmark, the Chapel bridge and the charming old town. The Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern is located directly on the beautiful riverside promenade with a view of the world-famous KKL convention centre.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Zermatt

Your journey begins with an individual journey by train to Zermatt. After your arrival you will be picked up at the railway station and check in at the BEAUSiTE Zermatt. Relax in the hotel’s infinity pool with a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. In the evening, enjoy dinner in the hotel’s restaurant ‘The Grill’.

Day 2: Discover the Matterhorn paradise

After a hearty breakfast, take the cog railway to the Gornergrat one of the most popular excursion destinations in Zermatt.

At an altitude of 3,100 metres, you can enjoy an impressive panorama of 29 four-thousand-metre peaks. For nature lovers, we recommend a hike to Riffelsee, where the Matterhorn is reflected in the water. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring Zermatt on your own.

Day 3: Glacier Express indulgence

Your first railway adventure starts on the third day with the Glacier Express. Enjoy the impressive scenery during the journey, past mountain streams, clear lakes and snow-covered peaks. During the journey you will be served a delicious three-course

lunch. Once you arrive in St. Moritz, you check into the Hotel Cresta Palace Celerina and round off the day in the “vita pura” spa followed by a multi-course dinner.

Day 4: With the Bernina Express on the UNESCO World Heritage Site

The fourth day is dedicated to the Bernina Express. This route, UNESCO World Heritage Site, takes you through the picturesque

landscape of the Val Poschiavo to Le Prese. Here you can enjoy lunch by the lake (not included) and then take a leisurely walk along the Pochiavino river. In the evening you return to your hotel in the Engadine and enjoy another delicious dinner.

Day 5: From the glaciers to the palm trees

On the fifth day, the Palm Express takes you from the glaciers via the Maloja Pass to the palm trees on Lake Lugano. At the Parco San Marco Lifestyle Beach Resort you check in and then relax comfortably under the palm trees on the hotel’s private beach. In the evening, a gourmet dinner awaits you in the hotel restaurant.

Day 6: Dolce Vita at Lake Lugano

The sixth day is all about “Dolce Vita”. Enjoy the amenities of the resort or take a boat trip to Lugano or Menaggio on Lake Como.

The Dinner is at your free disposal and you can enjoy it in one of the restaurants in the resort or in one of the charming restaurants on Lake Lugano or Lake Como.

7: With the Gotthard Panorama Express to Lucerne On the seventh day you travel on the Gotthard Panorama Express to Lucerne. The journey takes you along the historic Gotthard route and offers you fascinating insights into the history of the region. In Flüelen you change to a historic steamboat and enjoy a picturesque trip across Lake Lucerne. After your arrival in Lucerne, you check into the the renowned Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern and explore the charming old town before rounding off the day with a luxurious dinner and reflect on your varied journey.

THE HIGHLIGHTS

Cave paintings from pre-historic times

These stunning cave paintings were created by prehistoric men and women a staggering 36,000 years ago. Painted on the cave walls of the Chauvet Grotto near the Pont d’Arc in the south of the Ardèche region, they remain preserved for eternity in limestone and clay. These untouched treasures were discovered in 1994 by three amateur cave explorers – amazingly well preserved, of enormous historical value and rich in late Palaeolithic drawings of animals and wildlife – 3 factors which led to the cave being classed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2014. Sadly, yet for obvious conservation reasons, the cave will never be accessible to the general public. However, you can visit a larger-than-life replica of the cave which is also the largest of its kind in the world.

The most beautiful wall of Louis XIV’s entire kingdom

Located in Orange is the famous Amphitheatre of Orange, an ancient work of Roman architecture. This well-preserved, most ancient and most impressive amphitheatre is also a World Heritage site and allows you to imagine the pomp and splendour of former times. The amphitheatre was constructed in the 1st century AD. The imposing stage wall was designed to enhance the acoustics and to put the actors “centre-stage“ for the audience. Louis XIV was so impressed, he described it as “the most beautiful wall in his entire kingdom“. During the French Revolution, the amphitheatre served as a refuge, fortification, and even a prison. Today it welcomes visitors and hosts opera festivals, summer concerts and theatre productions.

Sur le Pont d’Avignon

Avignon has a rich historic and cultural heritage. The Palace of the Popes and its grand square, the famous Pont d’Avignon, the city walls and the cathedral have all earned the city a UNESCO World Heritage title. Be sure to visit the “Palais des Papes“, the largest gothic palace ever built and the medieval art museum

“Le Petit Palais“ at the end of the main square. Stroll through the narrow Avignon streets and don’t forget the worldfamous bridge and the song it inspired… (“Sur le pont d’Avignon, on y danse, on y danse…“)

Arles – The UNESCO Town

As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Arles has several monuments worth visiting: the amphitheatre, the Roman theatre, the Saint Trophime cloister, the Mari des Forums, the baths of Constantine, the Alyscamps necropolis, and the Roman battlements. For contemporary art enthusiasts, we recommend a detour to the “Maison d’Arles“ where Maja Hoffmann, Swiss art collector and heiress of the Hoffmann-La Roche pharmaceutical company, has established an interdisciplinary centre for culture. The centre piece is a striking aluminium tower designed by star architect Frank O’Gehry. Arles has much to offer in addition to its UNESCO status, including one of the prettiest markets in Provence which takes place every Saturday morning, award-winning restaurants such as “La Chassagnette“ as well a number of exquisite boutiques that will make you want to browse!

A stop-over in Genoa – the home of Columbus

The capital city of Liguria has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006 and is famous for the “Palazzi dei Rolli“, and the historic renaissance and baroque palaces of the aristocracy located in the Strade Nuove. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries they will immerse you in the aristocracy of days gone by. In the Middle Ages, Genoa was considered one of the most important ports and trade posts of the Mediterranean Sea. Lest we forget, once upon a time, Christopher Columbus, explorer and discoverer of the Americas was born here. Today, this former hub for trade and commerce is rather more a centre for culture and a pleasure harbour.
