MB&F
rejoices its most momentous anniversary in 2015 However, for the most significant anniversary of its decade- long existence, MB&F turns that one basic assumption on its head. Rather than expecting to receive, the creative lab has conceived HMX – “X” as in the Roman numeral for ten – as a thank you to the Friends who have supported the brand over the last 10 years. Instead of developing an ultra- complicated, ultra-expensive anniversary piece – standard practice in the luxury watchmaking world – MB&F has cut sales margins without sacrificing quality, offering a true Horological Machine at an unprecedented price. Paradoxically, creating such a Machine also made HMX one of the most difficult to develop as MB&F considered, tested and rejected a plethora of combinations of forms, finishes and details before being satisfied that everything was “just right”.
“A creative adult is a child who survived” The tag line for MB&F’s 10th
anniversary
is
“A
creative adult is a child who survived”, a reference to a child’s sense of wonder and awe that usually fades under the onslaught of the everyday realities of reaching
adulthood.
As a child, MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser dreamt of becoming a car designer and his sketchbooks were full of drawings of the supercars of his imagination. The

the child in Büsser survived.
Gentlemen, start your engines! HMX displays bi-directional jumping hours and trailing minutes. Apparently simple, but it is how and where the time is displayed that makes HMX so special. Rotating discs on top of the movement feature mirror image numerals. These are reflected 90° and magnified by two sapphire crystal optical prisms that “project” the time onto the front vertical display. Light streaming through the transparent engine cover both illuminates the top of HMX’s engine and backlights the time display for high legibility. Also visible through the sapphire crystal engine cover are supercar-inspired dual “rocker covers” on top of the movement, each featuring shiny chrome oil filler caps. These oil caps are not just pretty design elements, but are fully functional oil caps that the watchmaker unscrews to oil the jeweled bearings for the indication discs. An automatic winding mechanical movement provides HMX with power, its “fuel” topped up by the 22K gold rotor visible through the display back. HMX is a limited edition of 4 x 20 pieces in grade 5 titanium and stainless steel, available in Lotus Black, British Racing Green, Ferrari Red and Bugatti Blue.
Machine As a child, Maximilian Büsser dreamed of becoming a designer of supercars and, like many boys before and since, he filled sketchbooks and notepads with drawings of wild, super-fast cars. However, unlike the majority, a kernel of that boy in Büsser remained with him through to adulthood and with MB&F that kernel has grown and flourished. HMX is a supercar for the wrist! Because of its utterly unconventional shape, the HMX case is a major challenge to manufacture: Every line, curve, metal, finish and colour has been refined over and over again. The case options were considered for strength, colour, finish and even weight: HMX didn’t just have to look good from

Immaculate shop fronts and pedestrianised streets seem almost Disneyfied after the chaos of Hanoi. Only yards from the main drag, however, life goes on as it has for centuries. In the 17thcentury Fujian Assembly Hall, a shy couple prays before the goddess of fertility and her 12 midwives. Traditional meeting houses are filled with the distinctive click and swipe of mah-jong tiles. Hoi An is famed for its express tailoring and punters are sized up, literally, at a glance. Before you can say, “Let me think about it”, you are pinned and pleated into shimmering silk. The workmanship is superb and the finished garment can be collected the same day, although it might be a good idea to bring along a favourite piece as a template; local style works a flouncy, Eighties vibe. The South Central Coast’s most secluded and exclusive beach strip is Lang Co, a six-mile curve of pink-gold sand at the base of the Truong Son mountains. For anyone harbouring a From Here to Eternity fantasy of rolling surf and misty peaks, this is the place to indulge it. By mid-afternoon clouds are boiling up the valley like steam from a giant wok; the aptly named Sea Cloud mountain, slamming around hairpin bends to Hai Van, Vietnam’s highest pass. A few miles down the road, a Buddhist pagoda under construction, where prefabricated concrete dragons have flashing electric eyes. In contrast to this hard-hacked region, the Mekong Delta is a kind of tropical Eden, an allegorical illustration of fecundity. Swapping the river boat for a bike, you can explore a lacework of tributaries bordered by orchards where unfeasibly large jackfruit hang across my path. Ho Chi Minh City (old Saigon) is the exclamation mark at the end of an odyssey, a sky-scraping city crackling with entrepreneurial energy. There are eight million people and four million motorbikes; all of which, it seems, turn out for the nightly “fast living”, a kind of petrolhead passeggiata, where the young and the restless zoom round the boulevards, just because they can. Crossing the road feels like a senseless act of bravado (the trick is to walk out and trust they’ll drive round you; dither and you’re dead). Far more fun to tour the city on the back of a Vespa. With a thrilling rev and a small yelp, join the strobing slipstream of red tail lights. Vietnam right now is having the ride of its life. It’d be a shame to miss the action.

YACHTS AND BOATS A look at the fun Sealine C330 a 338-Foot yacht The Sea Hawk Concept WHY A Carribbean Yacht Charter IS MAGICAL
A look at the fun
Sealine C330
The Sealine C330 is a twocabin design that allows owners to choose equipment, materials and colors to create a personalized boat.
Standard power is a 330-horsepower Volvo Penta D6 Duopropsterndrive engine that produces a cruising speed of 25 knots and a top speed of 26 knots. For a little more oomph, options include a single 400-horsepower Volvo Penta D6 Duopropsterndrive generating a cruising speed of 30 knots and a top end of 31 knots; a pair of 170-horsepower Volvo Penta D3 Duopropsterndrives driving a cruising speed of 26 knots and a top hop of 27 knots; and a pair of 220-horsepower Volvo Penta D3 Duopropsterndrives that push the hull to a cruise of 30 knots and top out at 31 knots. On board are a galley, a seating area and a helm station. A glass door separates the salon and cockpit and can be opened to create an uninterrupted gathering space. A refrigerator can be added in the cockpit, and a sun lounge that converts to a dinette can be ordered atop the cabin superstructure forward of the coach roof. Base price is a little more than $200,000 (â‚Ź164,950).
12
Bill Dixon penned the Sealine 330’s design, attempting to use every inch of onboard space to create the feeling of a larger boat. Oversized hull windows and large hatches allow for extra light and fresh air, and everything from headroom to berth size has been pushed to its limits, according to the builder. A sliding roof opens electrically to create a fully indooroutdoor space.
In for the long haul, the lavish exploratory vessel will have a range of 12,000 nautical miles, enough storage for voyages lasting more than three months, and a helipad for any necessary ship-to-shore sojourns. An

With the Project Sea Hawk superyacht concept, the London-based design firm Hawk Yachts aims to create a superyacht that is not only big in size, but substance as well. The 338-foot yacht concept has been engineered as a true luxury expedition craft, equally comfortable cruising near the polar ice caps or on the Amazon River. Its massive interior could accommodate as many as 36 guests and 62 crew.
Designed from what the company calls the “ocean up,” the Sea Hawk will feature an efficiently hydrodynamic hull with belted reinforcement, large bilge keels, retractable fin stabilizers, and oversize propellers. But its real beauty is in the bow. Approximately 1.5 decks higher than standard designs, the unique Hawk bow elevates the gunwale (top edge), and its shape helps deflect and dampen the force of large waves. Thanks to this geometry, as well as its construction materials, the yacht will be ready for Polar Ice Class 6 certification and will be able to cut through ice up to 2.5 feet thick. In polar opposite conditions, Sea Hawk will take the heat in stride thanks to engine-cooling systems, powerful air-conditioning, insect and pollen filters, and heat exchangers capable of handling the high silt content of many tropical rivers. Adding to the yacht’s versatility is the planned use of a hybrid propulsion system that will allow cruising at speeds of up to 12 knots using only electricity.

onboard incinerator along with sewage and grey-water treatment processes will minimize environmental impact.
WHERE HERITAGE MEETS CONTEMPORARY DESIGN AT HOME IN THE HEART OF AMSTERDAM
In for the long haul, the lavish exploratory vessel will have a range of 12,000 nautical miles, enough storage for voyages lasting more than three months, and a helipad for any necessary ship-to-shore sojourns. An onboard incinerator along with sewage and greywater treatment processes will minimize environmental impact. Form, however, is not lost amidst all of Sea Hawk’s functionality. Its vast, fully customizable interiors could feature a spa, an indoor pool, an open galley, and an ample bar and lounge surrounded by windows. For the ultimate view, the asymmetrically shaped bridge will have room for guests to relax and observe the journey from the captain’s perspective. Hawk Yachts, which is ready to begin construction upon purchase, will preview Project Sea Hawk (price available upon request) at the Monaco Yacht Show, September 23 through 26. The Contemporary Art Museum Opens in Los Angeles On a blazing-hot September day, hundreds of media outlets from around the globe gathered in downtown Los Angeles to be the first to experience Edye and Eli Broad’s extensive contemporary art collection at its new home - the Broad museum, which opened to the public Sunday with free admission. With the 120.000 square-foot museum at his back, ts matte-white exterior, porous and spongelike, establishing a brilliant contrast to Frank Gehry’s shiny and smooth Walt Disney Concert Hall directly to the north - Eli addressed the crowd, declaring Los Angeles the “new contemporary art capital of the world.”

The collection includes 125 photographs by Cindy Sherman (the largest single collection of her work), 34 works by Roy Lichenstein, and 19 pieces by CyTwombly (a popular third-floor exhibition on press day). Other highlights included Robert Therrien’s over 10-foottall Under the Table installation; Yayoi Kusama’sInfinity Mirrored Room—The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away, a small chamber of multicolored LED lights, mirrors, and water that each person experiences individually for 35 seconds; and a nine-screen video installation, The Visitors, by Icelandic artist Ragnar Kjartansson, who filmed nine different performers in one house in upstate New York simultaneously in one take. There is also more to come, such as works by Jordan Wolfson and Alex Israel. And the collection will continue to grow under the guidance of Joanne Heyler, the founding director of the Broad and the visionary curating the couple’s collection for the past two decades. In the past, the collection grew at a rate of one new piece of art a week, but “we are not going to continue at that pace,” explains Eli. “When you start you don’t have hardly anything, and then as it happened it averaged out that way.”

EMIRATES Unsurpassed Luxury Private Jet Service
Other amenities include 1,500 channels of on-demand entertainment, high-speed internet and mobile phone connectivity, and an in-flight menu that offers guests a fine dining experience at up to 35,000 feet in the air.
Emirates continues to offer private jet services promising “unsurpassed luxury” for affluenttravelers. The initial launch of this service a few years back was in response to increasing demand from markets in the Middle East, Europe, India, Russia and China, says the carrier.
The specs are impressive and nothing less than what would be expected of a service created to cater to the world’s obscenely wealthy. The reconfigured Airbus A319 includes, for instance, 10 private suites that slide fully shut, fully lie-flat beds and 32-inch flat screen TVs. A large shower and spa features heated floors, marble accents, all-natural skincare products and luxury toiletries from Bulgari. The main salon can likewise be configured to guests’ needs, be it as a business center for videoconferencing and high-powered meetings, or as a comfortable living space courtesy of the mechanically-activated table, two 42-inch LCD screens, and two sofas.

The luxury jet can accommodate up to 19 guests. The private charter service flies to most locations worldwide, and extends beyond the carrier’s network.
