A state on India's tropical Malabar Coast. It's known for its palm-lined beaches, backwaters, and houseboats. Kerala is famous for its rich heritage, colorful and unique in culture. Timber remains the prime structural material abundantly available in Kerala, in many varieties - from bamboo to teak and rosewood. The artful assembly and delicate carving of wood columns, walls and roof frames are unique characteristics of Kerala architecture. The skillful wood work using accurate fit joints are also unique to Kerala construction.

Being born and brought up in Kerala, the client was keen on having Kerala themed interiors for his Mumbai based living room. He preferred few elements that signified the colorful state, like the traditional wooden carved furniture, earthy color combination and jute curtains, maintaining a congenial space.

Teakwood is a type of timber, highly produced in Kerala and commonly used for making furniture, because of its durability. However, this wood is very expensive. As the client had budget constraint, I used alternatives for the materials like plywood and dark laminate instead of teakwood and Jute textured wallpaper and Laminate as a substitute of Jute.

WE’RE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT!

THE CONCEPT OF THIS CONFERENCE TABLE WAS DEVELOPED BASED ON THE IDEA OF A BOAT. DURING MEETINGS AND IMPORTANT DISCUSSIONS, EVERYONE ON THE TABLE WORKS TOGETHER TO OVERCOME THE COMMON PROBLEM. IT CAN BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL REQUIREMENTS

THE SHAPE OF THE TABLE IS TAPERED FROM BOTH THE SIDES, WHICH OPTIMIZES THE SURFACE AREA. THIS ALSO ENABLES EASIER INTERACTIONS AS THE PARTICIPANTS CAN SEE EACH OTHER FROM THEIR SPOTS AND ARE AT A CLOSER DISTANCE FROM EACH OTHER.
