A LOOK ATÂ THE YEAR 2017

PRO.SVIT IN 2017 OUR SUCCESSES AND HISTORY OF CHANGES

018 is at the door, and we in Pro.Svit still dream about the society of creators, self-sufficient people that will continually learn, seek their congener work and create value for the others. We believe that effective educational solutions are “healers” for many social diseases. So today, more than ever before, there is a need to invest in education to shape new educational ecosystem that will become a driver of educational changes in the society. Keeping in mind that Ukraine is starting to implement educational reform, it is of the utmost importance today – to invest in education – one’s knowledge, ideas, efforts. For the investment in the education has the biggest return. The year 2017 was momentous for Pro.Svit. We crystallized our focus breaking new ground with long-term systemic programs for school development. We have realized that changes are possible if approached holistically, when everyone who will be affected is involved – we focused on the community-orientedness of schools, and also launched a branch of students’ projects on GoFundEd. This year we found partners who share our values and reestablished our organizational structure, evolving in two cities: Lviv and Kyiv. We also kept high pace and dynamics that enabled to be more focused in our everyday work.

6

Our influence: 24 schools in regions finished oneyear program in school development; 7 schools in Lviv started a two-year program for the transformation of cooperation at school, establishing of effective management and work with students, parents and community; 27 authors realized their projects on GoFundEd, raising 813 897 UAH and engaging 804 donors. 150 people joined the community of change-drivers of Pro.Svit; 250 educators visited Forum of Innovative Education INED.

A LOOK AT THE YEAR 2017

PRO.SVIT IN 2017 OUR SUCCESSES AND HISTORY OF CHANGES

In general, about 150 educators took part in long-term programs of Pro.Svit and about 400 – in short-term programs. We will proceed in 2018 and make effort to systemize our experience and offer systemic solutions for the development of every school in Ukraine.

Pro.Svit is an organization that is constantly learning and improving its attitudes towards the design, implementation and reflection of the educational solutions. Our activity would be impossible without the support and effort of dozens of people that are engaged in the development of the organization and share our ambition for better education for every student.

Thank you for being with us in 2017 and let us invite you to read our report! The best is yet to come!

uring the interviews I’m regularly asked about my opinion considering the implementation of the educational reform in Ukraine. I always repeat that the conception of New Ukrainian School and changes offered in the new law on education – are very strong. This changes keep step with global educational trends and reforms in other countries. But every change of a large scale depends on the quality of its implementation. The role of the Ministry of Education is key here, but not pivotal. The most important thing is changes in the mentality and worldview, the alacrity for change, local responsibility and initiative. It’s about hundreds of thousands of educators all over Ukraine. The crucial role in speed and effectiveness of these changes is performed by non-governmental educational organizations. Pro.Svit is one of the champions among the organizations introducing educational changes in practice. It’s a hard work daily: communication with the teams of teachers, long-term learning by best methodologies from the whole world, gradual formation of new local educational ecosystem, where a school is the center of the community. The results of Pro.Svit in 2017 are impressive. 7 schools started 2-year program School 3.0 – innovative educational program aimed at the change of the culture of cooperation in schools. More than 50 educators and students raised almost 1,4 million UAH for the realization of their projects on the GoFundEd platform. 250 educators from all over Ukraine visited Educational Forum. This year also became crucial for the stability and sustainability of the organization. New professional team of Pro.Svit meets the year 2018 with confidence. There is a lot of work and changes ahead: expansion of School 3.0 on the national level, activation of work of the organization in the

Reanimation Package of Reforms, consolidation of GoFundEd in the position of the leading educational crowdfunding platform in Ukraine. It is a great honor for me and for other members of the Supervisory Board to support the Pro.Svit team in their activity. We strongly believe that together we will be able to achieve all the goals set for the year 2018!

The change in the attitude towards educational reforms among teachers of Lviv became a pleasant surprise this year. The most vivid evidence and confirmation for such an observation became project School 3.0, directed not only at practical level of the acquisition of managerial skills by the teachers, but also at a deeper level – at the transformation of the managerial culture and basic beliefs of administrators and teachers in schools. By virtue of the program, 7 school teams in Lviv had an opportunity to work on the vision of school and to dip into its future, taking responsibility for it; they started all the more imagining their school as the joint project of the whole community, and the community as the responsibility of a school; they became thoughtful about the culture of work for which the improvement of learning experience of a student is the highest priority. And above all, with the help of partner consultants, they were introducing their own ideas and plans in their schools, sharing the experience gained with their colleagues from the other schools. As everything Pro.Svit does, School 3.0 became a calling card of Lviv education in 2017. The reason for that is, in particular, or, maybe, above all that in every project of Pro.Svit the genuine interest in the success of a student, teacher, principal or a school team can be felt. Pro.Svit is not doing projects for itself or about itself, but for a cause. A simple formula to a great success! That’s the spirit!

ithin the coinvestment program “Hub schools projects” six schools launched their crowdfunding campaigns on the platform GoFundEd.org. Schools had the following tasks:

investigate the needs of students at schools; understand how a school can add value to the community; create initiatives together with the students and the community; raise 50% of the cost within the community to validate the relevance of the idea

Khmelnytskyi Youth Development Club — 1 project

This autumn together with Khmelnytskyi Youth Development Club we became the co organizers of the contest of students’ projects. Art-space project by the School #13 in Kmelnytskyi became the winner of the contest. The total budget made up 37 405,00 UAH. According to the requirements of the contest, starting sponsorship in the amount of 10 000 UAH was granted to the project by Khmelnytskyi business-community (#БізнесІнвестуєВМолодь). The project is raising the rest of the financing at the GoFundEd platform.

Feedback from the authors of the projects

GoFundEd platform has become our first experience in the creation of projects and in fundraising. It was a positive experience. We were listening to the advice of the coordinator and because of that, went through the moderation process quickly. We had an easy start and we finished the same way. We are happy that our community supported us and GoFundEd team accompanied us for 60 days. The phrase of Oleksandra “What about kids? Ask them.” became the key factor in our work. (Olesia Chaikivska & Olha Herasina, authors of the project “ПЕРЕZАВАNТАЖЕNNЯ”)

GoFundEd gives you an opportunity to implement your idea into life. What is more, you not only get experience in fundraising, but also a united team that will help you realize your project. Speaking about our project specifically, if these were school and parents financing our project, we would stop on 1 composter and few people would know about us, Because of GoFundEd, many people got to know about us and we were able to do more than we’d expected. (Nikita Shulga, co-author of the project “Compola”)

GoFundEd is an opportunity to improve learning not only in cities, but in villages as well. When I started working on this project I did not believe I could make it. But the team of the platform was helping me on all the stages – from moderation to realization. First of all, work with the platform has helped me to engage students in the world of electronics and software engineering; in the improvement of the material base of their classroom; and in my professional development. GoFundEd – is a platform for the development of teachers, students and schools.. (Dmytro Tytar, author of the project “OLGINKA ELECTRONIC LAB”)

OLENA SOVYN

I have been supporting projects on GoFundEd already for a few years, and I’m very glad to have such an opportunity. It is wonderful to see how teachers update their lessons, create art clubs, mini-observatories and bright dayrooms for children, as well as to see students launching their own projects. I am grateful to everyone connected to these projects and to the platform. It’s a pleasure for me to support you!

The idea to support changes transparantly and effectively exited me. Before supporting the project I look through the budget and decide whether these are really the tools that will improve the educational process in this school. I can remember how small or sometimes even big opportunities, given to me at school influenced me and my later life. Personally, I think that investing in education is the most effective out of everything else possible today.

ALIAKSANDR KLIAPATSKI

IRYNA SOSNINA

Any changes in Ukraine will not be continuous without changes in education. It’s a great delight to have an opportunity to support teachers who have non-standard ideas for changes at schools and try to implement them not waiting for the system to change.

I do not invest in education! I invest in the future of our children. For I believe in the renewed Ukrainian education. What it will look like depends on me and you! Support children today for us to have someone to build our tomorrow!

VLADYSLAV ZYMOVETS One of the biggest values in my life is sincerity. It is well known that values and beliefs can be shown only through actions. I sincerely believe that Ukrainian education needs changes and development. donorship for educational projects at the GoFundEd platform gave me an opportunity to prove my beliefs and be sincere with myself. This feeling is unsurpassed. Teachers and students who launch their projects on GoFundEd – are those who already are changing Ukrainian education, and it is with their effort that Ukrainian education will become modern. Innovators are the minority now, this is why the support of the society is crucial. It is important that these wonderful teachers and students feel their work is valuable for the Ukrainians. I believe, in this way Ukrainian education will change to the modern one.

DMYTRO POPOV I support educational initiatives, because in this way I can join the realization of somebody else’s ideas, help students gain knowledge in better conditions, widen the horizon of their cognition. They will use this knowledge later in their life and, maybe, also help someone else. Many projects from villages need financial help.Children have little choice there in terms of organization of their free time. I really like that ambitious and responsible teachers approach these issues creatively. I look with pleasure at every financed and realized project. Looking forward to new projects and new accomplishments!

Owing to you I realized that to be different is normal, to make mistakes is normal. We are all different in our school collective and this is our power. We learn to see and to focus on our successes, it helps us build a team. We learn to analyse strengths and weaknesses of our school. Self-analysis is still a tough task for us, but we are voicing our thoughts already. Not only the sense has changed, but the school itself. Parents and teachers are jointly working on the improvement of school. During the last parental meeting we were together defining the ways of cooperation. We hope that we will fulfill our plans! We engage the community! At the moment it’s joining the development of the music culture at school. We are taking part in the project “I am an innovator” and fortune also smiled upon us – 4 young teachers have joined our school!!! One of them is taking part in the project “Teach for Ukraine”. This project has become a fairytale in my life! It helped me meet new intelligent, creative, thoughtful friends. It helped me to be more confident and move forward constantly. I started considering different roles in my life.

The work was organized very successfully. We were working on ourselves and reopened ourselves. We were shown better examples – what we can aim at; what we can change, what depends on us.

T

he demand for holistic approach towards the reformation of secondary education has raised in Ukraine recently. New Ukrainian School presupposes total transition from the transfer of knowledge to the formation of competences. Not only the change in methodology is needed here, but also the change of mindset, approaches towards management and interaction between the participants of learning environment and the creation of the pedagogy of partnership. To bring these changes to life, we launched program School 3.0 in March 2017 in partnership with Space for Educational Initiatives UCU.

School 3.0 is a two-year learning program for schools that aims at the creation of the collaborative environment and the culture of constant improvement. From March to October 2017 44 schools in Lviv took part in the diagnostics. 7 of these schools piloted the program School 3.0, which has the objective to change the approach towards management, teaching and interaction in Ukrainian schools in general.
