“PRO.SVIT” IN 2018 FOCUS: TRANSFORMATION AT SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LEVEL
“TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE POTENTIAL OF EDUCATORS...” — THE MISSION OF PRO.SVIT
“neither centralization nor decentralization works — a movement towards these two points does.” ichael Fullan
T
he last two years have been quite turbulent for school education in Ukraine. This year, every firstgrader began to study with new curricula and the new approach of the “New Ukrainian School”, which paves the way for a competence education and democratic values, partnership and equality of the participants in the learning environment. In the process of decentralization, schools gain more freedom and responsibility: financial, managerial and pedagogical freedom. In Ukraine there are many organizations that support transformation. The situation seems to have moved from dead point irreversibly, but to what extent? To the exact extent the roles of people in the education system have changed.
The teacher’s role — f rom the expert to the facilitator and the mentor, the director — to the leader and manager, the parents are now partners, the students — those who provide feedback and form the learning environment. When communicating with a large number of teachers, educational managers, we cannot but notice on the one hand their strong desire to “take on” a new role, and on the other — we can feel how much frustration they experience due to the lack of trust, incomprehensible or not discussed redistribution. responsibility, lack of communication and discussion of not only technical but also meaningful things that could empower them to act. There is a huge lack of adequate decision-making,

with little data and few evidentiary practices that can guide the implementation of change. Well... our mission, as an organization, will remain unchanged — to strengthen the potential of educators and to help them in the path of change, taking into account the challenges that we face. We admire the people we worked with this year, and these are the teams of hundreds of schools in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions that took part in the “Eastern Meetings” program, these are thousands of educational managers who attend the EdEra course, a hundred of project authors, who have dared to offer their idea to GoFundEd, there are 7 schools in Lviv who have dared to start organizational changes with school teams in the “School 3.0” program, which are four hundred teachers who have tried to learn design thinking. In this report, you can plunge into their feedback and stories of change. In particular, I would like to thank our partners from the International Renaissance Foundation, the Press, Education and Culture Department of the US Embassy (PAS), UCBI, the Ukrainian Civic Trust Initiative, the Lviv Educational Foundation, with which we have fruitfully cooperated with the implementation of ideas. In addition, I would like to thank the people who make personal contributions to the development of the organization — the benefactors of Nova Ukraine, the members of the Supervisory Board and the many benefactors of our projects, because it is through such people — friends of Pro.Svit, we are aware every day that our team is not only the ten people who work tirelessly each day to achieve the goal, but hundreds of people in all corners of the world who share our mission.

It is nice to feel that there are people who are not indifferent to the fate of Ukrainian education. People who understand that you need to make changes now. The Team of Pro.Svit has given us an understanding that it is up to us and our desire how much we will keep up with the times and how close we are to our students. The success of the school depends on the success of the students, the success of the students depends on the joint success of the teachers and parents.
Mykhaylo Zaremba, Director of the Lviv school named after V. Stus
Participation in the program “School 3.0” has changed the vision of the school. Some teachers had taken certain steps to diversify our curriculum in the program, but there had generally been no changes. Now, 90% of teachers have conducted various types of lessons (CLIL, binary, integrated, mixed learning) not for the check, but for improving the understanding of subjects by students and other teachers. This is our most important achievement. The work on fundraising, improving the conditions of students in the lyceum should be noted separately. Today, our team has somewhat changed its priorities regarding the beginning of participation in the “School 3.0”

I was lucky to study at the school of mentors in the summer of 2018. A week of immersion took place in the mountains, where everyday events were far away, and the brain was set to create, a combination of knowledge gained with one’s own experience, harmony of training in the day and reflection in the evening. The enormous motivation has united everyone in the desire to add their own efforts to educational changes and feel the result of the introduction of something new. “Pro.Svit” is a quality, it is honest and with a real heart. That is why you trust and want to use the opportunities provided by “Pro.Svit” to educators.

REVIEWS FROM THE PARTICIPANTS Thanks for the opportunity to get some useful knowledge ! I am not the head of the institution, but the deputy and I believe that such a course should be taken by the administration of the school. Since we work as a team, it is appropriate for everyone to learn how to properly solve school problems.
Lyudmyla Gumenyuk
Overlyimportant course for the school leader! I hope that its successful passing will lead to qualitative and meaningful introduction of changes in the schools that are seeking for this. Thank you!
Olha Pretsel Thank you for the opportunity to join the course! I am the head of the institution of preschool education, but rational, practical application of this material is relevant to me. Thanks again!

P
roject Mission — We know that good education is one of the most important things we can give children. We are sure that the path of its development is a way of experimentation. From small initiatives to systemic changes, from the influence of 20–30 students to the impact on the entire country. The GoF educational platform is a place where anyone can launch a campaign and raise funds for the implementation of their own educational initiative or support a project financially, thus funding positive changes in Ukrainian education.

14 OUR WORK
FROM THE AUTHORS: Educational hosting platform GoF has enabled us to realize our dreams. In many ways, we owe a two-day workshop thanks to which we were able to reveal the idea of our project and bring it to the residents of the city. The completed plan of the project’s implementation has helped us to raise funds. Our project has already brought together parents, students and teachers. We found many like-minded people. We hope this is just the beginning of our initiatives.
Victoria Paschenko
“Triangle of Success”
We participated in the GoCreate: Incubator for Student Projects that encouraged us to place our project on a platform. Thanks to the platform, we raised funds for a great start, and informational support made us familiar with similar projects and helped us meet us new enthusiastic people.
Kyryl
Work on the GoF platform not only inspired us to design and implement a project, but above all to look for ways to solve problems, to unite school and community, students, teachers and parents in solving common problems to achieve a common goal. While working on the “Devyatochka” Cinema Hall project, we conducted a lot of promotions and learned how to organize them. Covered the progress of the project on the radio, in the press. When there was still no necessary equipment for the cinema, the efforts of students and initiative teachers, with the support of the community and the school administration started the cinema hall. In the cinema hall there were trainings, interactive lessons with videos. In order to have the right to showcase films at the cinema club, we have signed a cooperation agreement for UA Media Education Media Clubs Kinocube. Acquired skills in organizing work, assignment of duties, dealing with contracts, facilitated the search for partners we needed to demonstrate films and scenarios and to discuss the films in terms of human rights and their protection, as well as recommendations on how to organize a cinema club. Work on the platform has given us confidence that we can change ourselves and change the world around for the better.

FROM THE BENEFACTORS: The GoF team does a great job and I trust them. I am most interested in projects on financial literacy of youth, but from time to time, I support various educational projects and themes!

I believe that education is the best investment in the future and development of the country. I want to help those initiative children and teachers who took the time to try to implement their projects :)

ВІД ПАРТНЕРІВ: GoF is one of the most influential platforms influencing changes in the education system. It gives donors an opportunity to contribute directly to innovative educational projects. Because of the crowdfunding idea, individual amounts don't have to be big, and it is easy to start getting involved, even from far away. As donors, we are confident in GoF team, that completes all the due diligence, and provides us with full accountability and feedback.
Yana Rathman,
non-profit organization Nova Ukraine
We at Nova Ukraine are extremely pleased that we can join the GoFundEd project. The GoFundEd platform is great because it enables every student and teacher to implement their own initiative and change their own skills in their schools. At the same time, it gives the non-indifferent people the opportunity to support such initiatives financially. We are glad that thanks to the partnership between GoFundEd and Nova Ukraine, donors from all over the world can participate in initiatives in Ukrainian schools!

FEBRUARY Eight students teams from Odesa and the region became participants of the GoCreate: Incubator for Student Projects. Already in a month, four of them started their campaigns on the platform, and the contributions of hundreds of benefactors turned into the first rollerdrome in Berezovka, a free social workshop for teens "The City of Masters", Robocode 10+ Club and a studio of television journalism.
APRIL This month we held two educational hackathons in Kyiv and Lviv. "Inclusion: Making the School Open to All" and "Technology: How to Implement Digital Competence in School?". Nineteen mixed teams of teachers and parents, professional mentors and 48 hours for the development of prototype projects. As a result, 4 winning projects and 209 546 UAH collected on the platform, which the authors turned into two inclusive spaces, the STEM laboratory and the school observatory.

SEPTEMBER Finally, at the office again, noisy and crowded. We conduct educational talks - we talk about the failures and remember the funny stories that happened with the team during the journey, and not only. About 50 projects at the same time collect funds on the platform. This month we have funded almost half a million hryvnias in educational changes.
OCTOBER Part of the team is sent on the journey again, this time to America on the Open World program for 10 days to plunge into the American educational environment. FEEDBACKS FROM THE PARTICIPANTS “Participation in the ‘Eastern Meeting’ is our first experience of the Crowdfunding campaign for a socially important project. Together with our students, we researched the problem and decided to create a primary point of reception of secondary raw materials to transfer collected plastic, paper and glass to one of the reception points, and to improve the yard of the Lyceum. In this way, we will solve two problems: students, staff members of the lyceum and residents of neighboring multistorey buildings will begin to sort the garbage and also there will be benches for recreation. They will be made by our welders at the craft lessons. Almost nobody believed that we would be able to collect online the necessary minimum for funding, but with the help of active campaig in social networks and just on the streets of our little Starobilsk, contacting Sergiy Zhadan in Kharkiv to record the appeal in support of the project we managed to collect funds, two trirds in the project was invested by Ukrainians and friends of the GoF project from other cities and from abroad. And for the full realization of the entire planned project, it received a grant from USAID. The first crowdfunding did work) Who is looking for opportunities — finds them and this adds confidence in future initiatives. We can not assess the impact on target audiences yet. The containers were manufactured and shipped on November 30th and we are still waiting for them. They are expected to arrive soon. We planned to make murals, but there were problems with the choice of the wall, which gradually grew into the understanding that
we can not make murals in the winter. We have faced a choice: to purchase materials and to wait for spring, or to come up with a similar alternative way of using collected funds (for example, developing and printing instruction leaflets, calendars, posters on the topic of recycling in our city). Thank you for the opportunity to take part in such an interesting project and for the attention to our provincial-depressed region.) We are really missing such inspirational and professional people!”

In August this year, our team participated in the educational program “Eastern Meetings”, which consisted of several parts: a two-day training, registration of initiatives on the GoF platform and the very crowdfunding campaign and project implementation. Each of these steps has become a great discovery and an unforgettable experience for our team. Two days of training on the principles of crowdfunding proved to be surprisingly balanced in terms of information saturation, emotions and positive impressions. The professional skills of the trainers, coupled with the friendly atmosphere that prevailed among the participants, made it possible to feel as one team with a common goal. And the result was a great product — the project of a school media center “WOWrecords”.

“We had ideas, and Hackaton gave us an impetus for their implementation. Often, we think that it will be difficult, and uncertainty interferes. Here I saw that many likeminded people work together easily and efficiently. Now I am ready to involve parents, school administration, and all interested in joint decisions. To do this, I will talk more about the idea, propagate, and raise awareness.”

“Hackaton gave us an understanding of how the project is staged and implemented in steps. I once tried to create an art center, and we did not know what to do first, we had calculated the enormous budget, and all this was stopped. Our next steps
“PRO.SVIT” IN 2018 FOCUS: TRANSFORMATION AT SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY LEVEL
I
n 2019, we will focus on building community-based education in communities, because we believe that each community can become a small educational ecosystem. By the educational ecosystem in the community, we understand the co-ordination of efforts of all parties (managers, teachers, parents, students, community members) to provide quality education for students and community members.
Our program “School 3.0” is steadily evolving to help educational leaders and managers in creating quality and relevant educational strategies, building team work, and improving pedagogical practices. We continue to formulate our own expertise and expertise environment with mentors who have the necessary competencies to assist schools during transformation periods. Through the syllabus for mentors and experts from the School of Mentorship by Pro.Svit, we are setting up a network of change agents in the regions that can work with school principals, community educators on community development and school education, to diagnose the school by the method of Richard Dufour and help them develop the educational environment.
In GoFundEd, we had a fantastically productive year, and this allows us to analyze our experience in order to find out to what extent crowdfunding contributes to the growth of social capital in the educational environment, builds trust and develops leadership competencies of project authors. We are convinced that research will allow us to plunge even more into the needs of the community and understand how we can make them most useful in the future. We plan to devote the first six months to the study and analysis of projects and their impact, and therefore change the tactics of work. From now on, everyone who wants to implement their ideas on the platform can start their campaigns twice a year — in the autumn or spring semester.
We invite everyone to join our journey in 2019! We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Friends of Pro.Svit!
