ETHICAL STATEMENT At VIVOBAREFOOT, we are passionate about health. This includes the health of our people, our planet and our product. With every decision we make, we keep environmental and social factors front of mind. Eco-thinking starts at design and continues throughout our supply chain. We ensure that our high ethical standards are met in the factories and suppliers that we work with. Our design and development team works closely with all our factories in China and Portugal. Each factory is carefully chosen for their shoe making excellence and exemplary social and environmental standards. Our factories are also independently audited to the very highest international labour standard. We strive to deliver the most durable, efficient, barefoot and healthy products possible without causing unnecessary harm to the environment. We developed the Eco Matrix - a qualitative scoring system – to help us do this. Our Eco Matrix has four sections: Product Life, Materials, Performance and Design. Products are categorised into green, amber and red. Our aim is to only produce and sell ‘green’ products. We are a transparent organisation and openly admit that we have not yet achieved this target. The Eco Matrix means we know where to focus so that, season on season, we step closer to our goal. Here are some of things we’re doing to reach our aim: • We use more and more modern manufacturing techniques to create lighter products with less processing and fewer components. This adds up to dramatically reduce the amount of energy needed to produce and ship our shoes around the world. • We source materials local to our factories to minimise transportation and reduce our carbon footprint. •
We use as many recycled materials as possible, including PET (recycled plastic bottles), partially recycled soling rubbers, recycled foam footbeds and sustainably sourced print fabrics.

We use moulded or stitched constructions to reduce how much glue we use. Where we have to use glue, our factories try to use water-based adhesives. When that’s not possible, we always choose the most eco-friendly option and put time into researching alternatives.
