"Teacher of the Year" Mr. Spencer V. Wright To a dedicated man. . . . W e as seniors have looked into our past and found you, a m a n w h o has contributed greatly to the spirit of our class. A s our teacher or coach, you have given freely of your time and effort whether it was in the classroom or on the field. Y o u were always there willing to help people. W e wish to show our appreciation by dedicating this, the 1965 Green Lantern, to you, Spencer V. Wright.

HEADMASTER'S MESSAGE The staff of the Green Lantern, aided and abetted by Mr. Curtis, have conducted their affairs in a more businesslike, efficient manner than we have seen for some time. As I write, we have not seen the fruit of their labors, but you are now looking at the finished product. I hope the editors are happy with the year book, and that the experience has been valuable for them. They certainly tried
hard. Mrs. Farrell and I wish all the best of success for the class of 1965. The school government whose leaders were from the class, has been one of the most effective and most sincere. The influence of a school government has been enhanced under the leadership of the class of 1965, and respect for it increased from students and faculty. This is a most worthwhile contribution to the school and we appreciate the efforts of the individuals who made this possible. The class of 1965 represents another Proctor landmark, as your senior year brought our almost legendary field house out of the dream area and approaching actuality. The architects are working on the specifications, ground has been broken, and when the members of the class of 1965 have finished their first year of college, if they will come back to Proctor, we should be able to show them around the completed building.

IN MEMORIAM MR.
CHARLES
A.
MURPHY
A dedicated teacher and coach who served Proctor for one year before his tragic demise one year ago.
MR.
ALBERT
R.
BOYD
Mr. Boyd, a long time friend of Proctor, had only six months to bring his artistic genius to our classrooms. His love for his work was the gift he shared with each of his students.
MR.
CHARLES
A.
JONES
For seventeen years, Mr. Jones served as chef to the school. A noted sportsman in his own right, his love of schoolboy sports is evidenced by the Jones Trophies which are awarded at Proctor each year. These trophies stand as monuments representing the love, concern, and fidelity that one man held for Proctor. We will not soon forget.

Lead by Captain Bruce Van Ness and new head coach David Fowler, the '64 varsity football team quickl\ made the shift to the split " T " formation so successfully, as to beat Holderness, after four years of defeats; and to compile a winning season of 3-2-1. The Proctor green broke the Holderness winning streak with a crushing 26-0 victory. The season opened with our victory over the Andover junior varsity, 8-0. The game was more of a test for our new players and our new formation, than a hotly contested battle. W e were pleasantly reassured of our new quarterback's ability, Ronnie Pearl, and fullback Everett Decatur; along with the offensive ability of the split " T " formation. Other outstanding seasonal proformances were put in by Peter Hodgkinson, S a m Johnson, John Nickols, Mugs, Davock. Jeff Clarke, and Gordon Mauer. Unfortunately, next year's team is graduating, or losing a large part of this year's team. But bolstered by Co-captains Everett Decatur and S a m Johnson, the team could develop itself into a fine unit.
Captain Van Ness.

Despite the heroic efforts of players and coaches, the J.V.'s could only post a 2-4-1 record for this season. The team was cut to the point where those who remained would get as much experience for future years as would be possible. With the exception of graduating seniors eleven of these boys should be Varsity material next year. The strength of this team was very definately on the defense. The linemen, Seymour. Rock. Whitney, terKuile. Grossman. Smith. Dingle and Infanti. did a fine job all year. Co-Captains Waltz and Pate were sparkplugs throughout the season. This was a year of spirit, hard knocks, squat jumps and valuable experience.
Capt. Waltz, on the way.

Reserve Football, led by coaches Cole and Kirk and captain "Y. A." Bennett, enjoyed a successful season in all respects this year. Bennett's passing, Gary's running, and Pick's sparkling line play made this squad the team to beat in league competition. The big win of the year was their 26-0 win over the Holderness Reserves, which turned out to be deadly foreshadowing of the impending Varsity game. With a record number of boys playing on this team. the aspect of strong Proctor teams in the future is excellent. Hard work and spirit, the earmarks of this team, are destined to be seen in years to come.

This year's Varsity Hockey Team can look back on its season with great pride. The team led by Captain Mugs Davock won eight out of ten games and shared the Lakes Region title with Tilton. The team started practice before Thanksgiving and by Christmas they had already played one scrimmage, a 7-0 loss to Hanover H.S. The team was strengthened this year by many new boys and several of last year's junior varsity players. After coming back from the Christmas vacation, the team won three straight games over Tilton, Hanover, and N e w Hampton before a loss to Berwick. After beating N e w Hampton, the team lost to Lawrence 3-1. After the loss to Lawrence, Proctor won their last four games by beating Concord, Brewster, and two big wins over our rival, Holderness. Mr. Wright and the whole team deserve credit for getting together and putting forth a real team effort that paid off handsomely.

LINES
Proctor made it two in a row to help celebrate their Winter Carnival, while playing at the K.U.A. rink. A total team effort was made in winning these two games, a feat that hasn't been accomplished in a number of years. Senno, Harte, Moore, and Van Ness were the goal getters in these games, while Bob Martin provided many spectacular saves in his near faultless goaltending. High team spirit provided the needed push to glory.

The cold weather brought a record turn out for Hockey this year, and Proctor put three teams on the ice for the first time in its history. The J.V.s formed two of those teams. The first unit J.V. team, captained by Lerchen and Dingle, played its second undefeated season in league play, while compiling a total record of 11 wins and only 1 loss. The loss came in an overtime game with K.U.A., 1-0. This team had strength and depth in every position. The lines scored 48 goals while the defense allowed only 13 goals in 12 games. Coach Curtis gave M.V.P. awards to Gray Lerchen and T o m Dickson at the season's end. Here is material for another Varsity championship. The second unit J.V.'s, or Scrappers, produced a 3-2 record in their first year of competition. Captain Jim Locke, Jim Rendall, and N o r m Gort were outstanding all season. Jon Randall received the "Most Improved" award. Total J.V. record was 14-3. W e thank Mr. Curtis for all of his efforts.

This year's Varsity Ski Team had an impressive record despite unfavorable weather and poor skiing conditions throughout nearly the entire season. Led by co-captains Pete Betts and Bill Hood, the team compiled a record of 3-0 in regular competition. The first meet was nordic only and was with the Holderness " A " team. W e took the meet, 196.26 to 190.60. The next meet was only alpine, against St. Paul's School and the Phillips Andover '"A" team. W e won 195.4 to 193.1 for Andover and 173.1 for St. Paul's. Next was the big one. the Lakes Region Championships. W e placed second behind Pete Betts and fourevent m a n John Tani. Holderness took first, Proctor second, followed by Tilton. N e w Hampton, and Berwick. Our last regular meet was an alpine meet with Concord High School and we soundly whipped them, 195.4 to 164.5. O n March 6-7. the team competed in the Eastern Prep School Championships. Despite the brilliant effort of Clark Pert) and Pete Betts in the alpine events. the team finished a disappointing eighth out of twelve schools. The team of 1965 showed great potential, combined with stamina and will to succeed. Mr. Cole must be praised for his skillful handling of the team. Next year's team, under co-captains John Tani and Clark Perry, will have a lot of material with which to work, and we wish them well.

The Junior Varsity ski team had a winning season despite unfavorable weather and skiing conditions. Led by co-captains Carl Allard and Scott Bartlett, the team compiled a record of three wins and one loss. Allard. who set a record for DNF's and DSQ's in practice, sparked the alpine team, placing in the base in every alpine event. The cross-country team, led by Scott Bartlett and George Howe, did a fine job. while Allard and Jack Miner excelled in jumping. The secret of the team's success was the capability of each team member to stay right on the tail of his teammates, as was shown in the N e w Hampton meet. when Allard. Gawne. Perrv Bartlett and Wickes finished first through fifth respectively in the slalom. The Junior Varsity ski team of 1965 was a hustling. bustling mass of energv and potential, combined with a great will to win. Thanks must go to Mr. Caswell. w h o worked with all team members willfully and molded the team into what it was. All in all. it was a very satisfying season.

The Lacrosse team with a fine 8-3 record has once again completed a very successful season. The work of co-captains Bob Martin and Bruce Van Ness, who was awarded the Clifford Gillespie trophy for team work on and off the field, were determining factors in bringing the team together into a functioning unit. K i m Sprague, the winner of the Jones trophy for the player who has shown the greatest sportsmanship and team play, has also been a great asset to the team in sparking each player to keep learning, thinking, and playing lacrosse. K i m has also set a new school record of 49 points, followed closely by Van Ness's total of 47 points. In many of the team's victories there can be found the same outstanding spirit of Lacrosse that surrounded the second Holderness game which Proctor won 6-4 and marked the high point of the season. Next year's co-captains, Gordon Mauer and Emory Robotham. will team up with the two remaining starters, midfielder Jeff Clarke and attack man, Mason Smith. The team hopes that next year the coaches, Mr. Fowler. Mr. Kirk, and Mr. Emeny will do an equally outstanding job in forming another fine Proctor Lacrosse team.

The golf team this year was by far the most successful in several years. With the bulk of the team made up by old boys (Captain Hood. Holcomb. Gawne, and Richardson) and two new boys added (Senno and Lathrop) it took little time to shape up. By far the hardest team faced all year was Tilton and each time the matches were quite even. At Tilton we lost the first time 5-4, but at Sunapee, our home course, we won our return match 5V2-3V2. The capping of the golf season was the Lakes Region Championship in which five schools (Proctor. N e w Hampton. Brewster. Berwick, and Tilton) compete. Ted Holcomb, the number two m a n for Proctor, shot a seventv-seven to take individual honors. Proctor played well but was just edged out bv Tilton. Next year also promises to be a good one with only one of the regular team, two year captain Bill Hood, graduating.

The Varsity Baseball T e a m enjoyed a somewhat different year. The potential was very high, due to the number of boys that came out. The varsity team consisted of fifteen boys, and the remainder played J.V. Baseball. Because of the great effort and time spent on the team by the coaches, Mr. Grant and Mr. Stultz, the team won four out of their twelve games, with two games throughout the season going into extra innings. Next year the team will loose Captain Bucky Adams, w h o played short stop. Dick Watlz. who did the catching. Captain Al S h a w and Coach Armstrong put a team on the field this spring that w o n 6 of its 10 contests. While this is a respectable record by itself, it is even m o r e amazing w h e n the personnel are considered. George Infanti. a professional J.V. ballplayer, teamed up this vear with his buddy Carl Otis to again paralyze the opponents with unbelievable baseball. T o m Dickson and Joe Carr carried big bats to the plate, and usually walked away with them. Big D a n n y W a r d did most of the pitching with Al Shaw. Greg Hine added a timely hit or two to keep things rolling. At no time during the season w a s there a lull on the field, especially in the Cardigan game. This team was as spirited and colorful as all previous J.V. teams and their success contributed greatly to the athletic program.

This year's sailing team began well and ended well in producing five wins to only three losses. Our first race was late in April against Cardigan Mountain School with a victory of 3-1. Following came two victories against Mt. Herman, 3-2 and Phillips Andover, 4-0. Our first defeat came with Williston, 1-3. All the meets scheduled this year were held home at Highland Lake, except for the second time we met Cardigan. At their lake our J.V.'s suffered a bitter defeat of 1-2. Northfield School for Girls made it possible for a 4-1 victory for us. followed by our third defeat with Dublin, 1-3. Perhaps one of the more creditable meets any school could have, would have been over Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, who specialize in sailing. Proctor's sailing team does feel worthy of credit. W e beat them 3-1.

The 1965 Varsity Tennis Team consisted of four sophomores. Randy Bennett, Joel Becker, Tony Frates, and Rick Harte. two juniors. Bill Cadley and Manton Metcalf, and a senior. T o m Newman. Bill Cadley was the one remaining member of last year's undefeated team. Randy Bennett. Joel Becker, and Rick Harte were from last year's J.V. Team which had a 5-4 record. Tony Frates. T o m N e w m a n , and Manton Metcalf were here at Proctor for the first time. So with a team this voung and inexperienced on the varsity level. Mr. Caswell and the school thought that the varsity team would fail to continue its winning streak. Before the actual season got underway. Mr. Caswell had predicted a 7-6 record for the season, but by the season's finish, the team had thirteen big wins against no losses. The team also captured the Lakes Region Championships and extended its winning ways to twenty-seven straight matches. The singles and doubles records were as follows: Co-captain Randy Bennett. 8-5. Joel Becker. 8-5. Tony Frates. 11-1. Co-captain T o m N e w m a n 13-0. Bill Cadlev. 10-3. Rick Harte. 10-1. and Bennett-Becker. 7-6. Cadlev-Newman. 12-1, and Harte-Frates. 12-1.
