THE 1969 GREEN LANTERN JAMES H. HOYT, Editor-in-Chief STEPHEN I. FRATES, Business Manager
THE CLASS OF 1969 DEDICATES THEIR YEARBOOK TO MR. DAVID FOWLER
W,'-J}
3
It has been a real pleasure for m e to observe the efficient manner in which the 1969 Green Lantern has been put together. Mr. Ernest L. Sherman organized the numerous days of photography with admirable efficiency, and M r . Robert St. Louis continued to display his considerable talent in photography. Special credit should be given to James Hoyt '69, Editor and Stephen Frates '69, Business Manager, for their excellent work. Mrs. Farrell and I extend to the members of the class of 1969 our congratulations on your graduation. It was particularly gratifying that, contrary to custom, there was no senior whose graduation was in doubt until the last possible m o ment. W e wish you the best of success and happiness in college and thereafter. W e hope that you will keep a w a r m spot in your hearts for Proctor.
DR. and MRS. LYLE H. FARRELL

The Varsity Football Team, led by captains Brandon Herbert and Robert McClintic, had a four and three record this year. The beginning of the season went well after an early week of practice. There were two high points of the season. Thefirstwas the Westmount game, which was a good, high-scoring win, and the second was the Brewster game, which was considered our toughest and hardest fought victory. W e must offer our deepest thanks to the coaches, M r . Fowler, M r . Morinelli and M r . Wright. W e also wish next year's team good luck for a better season.

The team was quite strong this fall, with such stars as Dave LeDuc, Phil Johnson and Greg Beckstrom. They led us through several victories in the beginning of the season, but, as winter approached, illness spread over the team along with several injuries which resulted in losses against tough courses and competition. Led by Coach Jackson, the team has been one of the best ever seen. It contained the willingness, stamina, and the power to win that any team could expect. Next year, w e hope that the J.V. team from this year, will contain this same quality and can lead the school to a near perfect record.

The J.V. Cross Country season this fall was rewarding to all those w h o participated. W e trained extremely hard and spent more time on the course than in past seasons. The members of the Cross Cross Country T e a m learned that it is hard work to build a good team, and more importantly, to have strong spirit. W e have learned a great many things this season, endurance, and a feeling of unity among the whole team. The future looks bright for Proctor's Cross Country runners, for with next year's leadership of the captains and coaches the season can't help but be successful.

This year's Varsity Hockey Team had an 8-5-1 record. Not what last years team had, but still a winning and productive season. The team had six sophomores w h o have yet to reach their potential, but they did most of our scoring. Under Co-Captains Chris White and Jim Sherman who, along with Jim Hoyt, could not play in league games, led the team very well. Chris White led the team in scoring, followed by Ben Bradley and Frank Tripp. Dave Babbitt's excellent goal tending won him a place on the All Star Team. Chris White and T o m Tripp also made the All Star T e a m in which T o m scored. Next year, the team should do a really good job for Coach Wright, w h o will have help from Co-Captains Bradley and T o m Tripp.

The Varsity Ski T e a m had an exceptionally good season this year. The team hasn't had as good a record in quite a number of years. Coaches Claude Lim a n and T i m Norris worked hard to get the team in shape as soon as possible. However, it took two meets before the team really settled down. Dave LeDuc and Phil Johnson led the team well as its Co-Captains. The year, as a whole, was wonderful for Mr. Liman since he will be leaving Proctor. M r . Liman has wanted this kind of season for the three years that he has been here. The team is glad that w e could give him the kind of season he wanted.

The Varsity Lacrosse season started early this year when twenty-one potential varsity players returned to Proctor. T h e three day early training proved to be successful, for w e w o n ourfirsttwo games and the only scrimmage comfortably. W e lost the following big three against Winchendon, Holderness and St. Paul's. The St. Paul's game is considered a moral victory. The varsity has scored 53 points against the opponents 38. Out of the 21 players, there will be only 9 returning for next year's season.

Varsity Baseball had a good season this year, although the record didn't show it. T o m Canfield led the team in both spirit and effort. The season showed the team that unity and spirit are the key factors in any sport and that it is needed, not necessarily to win, but to have fun in the game. M r . Morinelli felt the high point of the season was the team's 1-0 defeat by Brewster. Although the team lost, Frank Neer pitched a two hitter and the team played its best game in terms of errors and league play. T h e efforts of M r . Morinelli have contributed greatly to the Proctor baseball program, the team learned a great deal, and for this reason the year was successful.

The Varsity Tennis T e a m returned to its winning ways this year with a 7-5 record. After losing four of last years six lettermen, the Varsity had to draw many players from the Junior Varsity. Chris Olson, a junior, played number one and had a fun season. Chris White played number two and not only did an excellent job as Captain, but played well, too. David Boyd, a junior, played number three and he shows great promise for next year's team. Steve Shapiro played very well at number four, before going to Outward Bound at midseason. Jon Seymour then became number four. Greg Beckstrom played number five. Steve Frates played number six and had the most successful season of anyone on the team. With a large number of players returning, and the superb coaching of Mr. Burke, w e are optimistic about next year.

This year's Golf Team consisted of two seniors and five underclassmen. The seniors were Captain Taft Chase and the number two man, Steve Jones. The underclassmen were, in the order they played, Bill Finley, Lee Losee, Peter Jackson and alternating in the sixth spot were Peter Hoagland and Frank Gibney. M u c h appreciation is given to Mr. Maguire, the head coach, as well as Mr. Liman and Mr. Anthony the assistant coaches. With five returning lettermen, the Golf T e a m can look forward to a stronger season next year.

After spring vacation, the outlook for sailing seemed depressing. Usually the ice leaves the lake in about a week, but this spring, there were no boats in the water until the end of April, only two days before thefirstmeet with Cardigan Mountain. Other schools had been in the water for weeks, so the sailors felt that they were at a distinct disadvantage. Despite the odds, the Junior Varsity had an undefeated season, and the Varsity, led by Henry Hart, was undefeated until the last meet when they lost to Exeter Academy. Considering the loss of practice time in the beginning of the season, the sailors have done an excellent job this season under the watchful eye of M r . Knox, a patient and understanding coach.
