The senior class of 1982 is proud to dedicate this book to

John Schoeller

W h o can accurately capture in words the essence of any other person? T o grasp the totality of this m a n and describe him in so m a n y words is to insult the very fullness of his humanity. John Schoeller above all loves life at its most meaningful and basic level where honest h u m a n relationships exist. T o be around him one sees clearly what is important to him and what is not. H e is "upfront" as they say, no hidden subtleties masking healthy emotions and feelings. If he is happy, depressed, nervous, anxious, thrilled — it is all there for us to deal with in our o w n way. Also, John cares. H e cares for you, for his teams, his wife and children, his Learning Skills students, for all of us. Certainly, being a caring person w h o is honest emotionally, John has an edge on the qualities that g o into making an excellent teacher. W e are fortunate and thankful that John has been with this community for nine years. Indeed, this dedication is for John, but also the Senior class, through this dedication, is honoring those qualities which m a k e excellent h u m a n beings and consequently excellent teachers.

5

The Class also wishes to recognize

Gary Schwartz and thanks him for all that he has done for Proctor *

Farewell to you and the youth I have spent with you. It was but yesterday we met in a dream. You have sung to me in my aloneness, and I of your longing have built a tower in the sky. But now our sleep has fled and our dream is over, and it is no longer dawn. The noon tide is upon us and our half waking has turned to fuller day, and we must part. If in the twilight of memory we should meet once more, we shall speak again together and you shall sing to me a deeper song. Kahil Gibran Once I was soil and you were rain we played host to each other in our parisitical world Our strength, sapped together with too much energy than it was worth Our union grew a flower — beautiful Yes, it was fun climbing the mountain tops, running through the clouds, singing as loud as we could; an everlasting embrace The soil, now dried up, is thriving for nourishment. Paradoxical rain comes and covers over you and washes me away . . .

T h e darkness of the newly born morning illuminates nothing for the horizon is the dark outline of the ever changing waves distorted by the dark of raindrops that fall constantly T h e wind howls ceaselessly in a voice of despair causing the ropes that hang from the broken mast to whistle and slap the battered hull as the wind comes up so d o the waves hurling the boat and crashing over the deck. T h e icy raindrops of pain c o m e d o w n brutally, thrown by the wind hitting the deck like bursts of bullets. T h e chill of loneliness isolation and absolute fatigue are all I feel for the storm has taken everything that youth has given m e .
