Q&A Claudelle Twynham Welcome to NBX DigiMag, I'm quite sure that our readers are very keen to get to know you, tell them about yourself, who is Claudelle Twynham?
My name is Claudelle Twynham, I'm 43 years old. My motto is God first, so I love praise and worship that is my daily bread to get me going. I'm originally from KZN Durban. And before you get confused and start asking 'what is she' I'm coloured, so yes I understand your pain on hair issues. I've grown a passion in helping African women maintain their natural hair. I'm shy but love helping others in need I'm the behind the scenes kinda person. BM: Today is possible because of the step you took to attend our National Business Xposure Entrepreneurship Conference, do you get the information and knowledge you needed from the conference? CT: Yes most definitely, from being inspired by Dr Joe Molete, to legal advice from Loots Attorney's, how to get funding, not forgetting how technology can work for you from Mixo Ngoveni and so much more... BM: When you were on stage doing the business elevator pitch, did you think that you were the one to win the prize to be featured on NBX DigiMag?
CT: No, no not at all. I actually didn't even want to pitch but my friend Paula persisted that I do (my guardian angel for the day). To me it was just about getting my brand name out there. Thank God I did now see what happened.. BM: How would you rate it out 10? Will you recommend other entrepreneurs to attend it next year?
CT: I would give it an 8, with remaining given for room for improvement. Yes, most definitely if you seek knowledge on growing or starting a business this would be of great help. BM: What was your journey like to get where you are?
CT: . I would say I had many up and downs. It's tough, now I see why people move from manufacturing, but my passion for hair helps drive me each day. There were times when I wanted to give up but my faith has always strengthened me to push forward.. I know God has a plan for me. Email twynhamc@gmail.com

BM: How did you end up with Sasol Incubator? Can you elaborate more about the programme you undertook until this stage? CT: After seeing how good the hair oil that I formulated worked, I gave it to a few friends to test. I got such good responses. I heard about Sasol Business Incubator and decided to drive there to find out if they could help. I met one of the 'incubation specialists' as they call them, who explained to me what is required to have my product on the market. He mentioned as soon as I could show that there was a market for my product, then they could apply for physical incubation for me. A few weeks later I was ready. The Sasol Business Incubator provided me with workspace and access to use their lab equipment. Helped design my logo, designed a brochure and also designed a website. The specialist appointed to me helped me with a costing model, helped draw up my ingredients listing and supported me in developing my other products, the shampoo, conditioner, scalp soother and leave in conditioner. There's also access to Wi-Fi, administration support like the usage of their printer. BM: How did you get where you are today, and who/what helped you along the way?
CT: It wasn't easy I must say and yes at times I felt like throwing in the towel. There are plenty of people that helped and still do encourage me not to give up. I guess God has his plans for Belle. BM: Do you have a mentor?
CT: Yes I do and I'm so grateful for him if only he knows how much he has helped me on this journey. Each time I fall and want to give up his always there to encourage me and lift my spirit.
I had many up and downs, There were times when I wanted to give up but my faith has always strengthened me to push forward BM: How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
CT: My daughter's hair broke from relaxing and dying so I did research and formulated a hair oil. It worked well, so while picking my kids up from school I noticed how damaged and broke the majority of kids hair was. This is were the concept of starting my own hair care range came from. BM: What made you choose this type of business?
CT: I enjoyed treating my daughters hair and seeing it grow back that it became a passion for me to help others. Our natural hair is our pride and joy no matter what texture it is. So women should take good care of their hair. BM: What is unique about your business?
CT: My business is proudly South African. A lot of ethnic hair care products are imported and are based on African American or European hair, I have researched the raw materials myself and developed the unique formulations. Nothing goes unnoticed. We soon noticed that my products help restore the hairline of women whose hair line already receded.
Bellemissc Claudelle Twynham
BM: What do you wish you knew before you started your business? CT: The marketing. It's all good and well to create something but getting it out there and having people believe in you is tough. I'm glad I attended your conference now. BM: What service(s) or product(s) do you offer/manufacture?
CT: Our product range is as follows: SHAMPOO: that repairs the hair surface and thickens hair. CONDITIONER: with potato extract that not only exfoliates the hair combined with other ingredients like shea butter that nourishes and softens leaving hair feeling sensuous. HAIR OIL: that repairs the hairline and strengthens hair it has a pleasant aroma. SCALP SOOTHER: alleviates an itchy scalp that also hydrates the hair. LEAVE IN CONDITIONER: with a heat protection that detangles leaving hair manageable. BM: Can you tell us more about Belle Hair, what inspired the name?
CT: My son was 5 years old at the time and I needed a name to register. So we were playing around with names and he said 'what nonsense is this call it beautiful hair' I researched a word that meant beautiful and this is how 'BELLE HAIR' was born. It means beautiful in French I believe each women and child should be proud of their hair no matter what. BM: What is your niche market or your ideal customers for your products and services?
CT: Teens and young mom's between 18 and 40 that will use it for their own hair and to make their daughter's look good and if older mom's are willing to change their mind set then great! If parents are able to take good care of their own hair and realize that hairline and hair loss is not normal, then they would pass good healthy hair care choices to their kids. BM: Why will people buy your product (and not something else)?
CT: Being a black South African women I see and understand what challenges women face when it comes to their own and their kids hair. BM: What’s your company’s goals?
CT: Saving our kids hair before it becomes instinct lol. My goal is for women not to be too quick in reaching for harsh chemicals like relaxers. Parents should encourage their kids to be proud of their natural hair and know that braids, wigs and weaves should be for fun and not be imprisoned to such. To manufacture products that would tame thee most Kinkiest thread of hair, in a safe, simple convenient way. I want my products available country wide to benefit as many ladies as possible. BM: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?
CT: Black like me, Herman Mashaba. How he moved from being a worldly youngster to becoming a successful entrepreneur. How he changed his mindset from disliking whites to joining with one to accomplish his dream. BM: What are your responsibilities as the business owner?
CT: Shew for now I am a slave to Belle Hair. I mix each product myself, quality control to bottling and labeling as well as marketing and selling. So for now yes I am a one woman show. I need to make sure that each product I sell is top quality. BM: Have you considered any alliance/partnership?
CT: No, no not really not at this stage. Listening to other respected entrepreneurs who have had bad experiences with partners, that is the last thing on my agenda for now. BM: How do you find inspiration?
CT: Through prayer and people around me. I believe we all meet for a reason. Some people have very inspiring stories to tell about their lives, their rise and fall. These are the people worth keeping and drawing your own inspiration from their tales.
BM: Do you read books? What is your favorite? CT: My bible each morning but apart from that reading books on how to build a business sometimes does not help. I read books that inspire me to want to make this business work. There are quite a few good reads out there you just have to find the one that helps drive you. My most recent was Bounce Forward by Katlego Mabusela, real life experiences and the courage it took him to lift himself back up. Short but very inspiring.
BM: What did you learn from your biggest failure? CT: Failure I don't know that word. Lol This is the first big 'project' I tried and I'm intent on making it a huge success. BM: Do you think women feel intimidated in business?
CT: No not at all woman are actually rising and taking a stand in their lives. There are many successful women that are examples to the younger generation. BM: We are celebrating a Women's month, do you have any message you'd like to send all the women entrepreneurs out there?
CT: Be a women of substance. Let's learn to uplift each other instead of tearing each other apart. Take a stand and stand tall 'believe in yourself'. A woman of substance is always happy, she is powerful beyond measure. Beautiful inside and out. BM: Where do you see yourself in five years?
CT: That Belle Hair has grown to a stage where my products are available in every sort of country. I will have created job opportunities and that Belle will have become a known brand in S. A. To develop the business to a stage where we are a team with our own production plant. BM: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out in your industry, what would it be?
CT: Get advice from people in your industry so you can focus on the right things. Many people make expensive mistakes due to lack of knowledge. Make sure your service or product works and adds value Thank you for your time and for introducing us to your unique brand. We wish all the best in your business!

it’s never coming back. Instead learn from it for next time. BUY YOURSELF SOME NEW ITEMS: clothes, get your hair done, and
treat yourself to something new. It will make you feel better and will give your ego a boost. ARE YOU PREPARED FOR SITUATIONS? Are you prepared enough
to meet any challenge that may come up? Are you prepared for that meeting, that presentation, that job interview, when you meet someone for the first time? If not, get to it. CAPITALIZE ON YOUR STRENGTHS. Know what you are good at and

Instead of saying “I’m enraged about this” say, “I’m a little annoyed”. Make a substitute list for the words that you use. Make sure they are lower in intensity and then use them. You’ll be surprised with the results. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS AND NAME THEM ONE BY ONE! At the
end of each day list your achievements and successes throughout that day. VISUALIZE SUCCESS AND CONFIDENCE AND IT WILL BE SO.
Every morning when you’re in the shower, play over in your head the events in the day as though they have already happened and they were a success. Visualize all of the meetings that you had, the people you talked to, the outcomes you had. IMPROVE YOUR BODY LANGUAGE. The way that you move your

And finally - WILL WHAT YOU WORRY ABOUT REALLY MATTER. You only live once, so any time that you are down just ask yourself in 10 or 20 years’ time, will worry and anxiety really add some life-enhancing value in it? That is all we had for you in this month’s issue. All of the best and all of the confidence in this season!
Morgen Moyo
“ We invented
money and we use it, yet we cannot … understand its laws or control its actions. It has a life of its own.” Lionel Trilling So much has been said and written about the subject of money and I thought of adding my voice with the hope that you will find value about this elusive subject. Every year our Minister of Finance stands up to present the budget and the state of the nations’ finances. Similarly, presentations without much pomp though, municipalities do likewise. At company levels, financial officers do a similar exercise and boards of directors and top management deliberate and take action on company budgets and financial statements. A picture emerges, indicating the financial state of the institution and where it’s heading. A question arises as to why we don’t seem perturbed about our personal financial planning and condition? Is hope the only strategy? Your financial journey begins when you embrace the concept of budgeting and living according to that blue print. Create a spreadsheet or find a free App online to assist you to compile your budget. Take note that this process is not just about placing figures on the columns but is a basis for your financial well being. Put your mind and heart into it and take ownership even if the situation looks hopeless.
Budgeting “Money is like a sixth sense without which you cannot make a complete use of the other five.” W. Somerset Maugham The following are some of the benefits derived from budgeting and living according to your budget; • • • • • •
Helps you to understand your income and expenditure Provides clarity as to where your money is going A control tool for your cash flow Provides a basis to evaluate your financial state A basis to develop your financial plan A tool to control your debt burden
Your Income There are others who prefer to create a budget on a month by month basis, but you can compile one over a period of twelve months. Complete your anticipated salary cash flows. If your earnings are commission based, break these down for the coming twelve months basing that on the previous earnings. At a glance you can see what you anticipate to earn this year. If you don’t like the figures, maybe it’s time to start thinking how you intend changing that.
Expenses Now the spending begins, at least on paper that is. Split your expenses into two categories namely fixed and variable costs. Your fixed expenses could include mortgage repayments, rent, motor vehicle repayments, etc. And your variables will include groceries, electricity, Dstv, air-time, fuel, etc. Add these up to establish your total expenses and work out the surplus or deficit from your income. The condition of your financial life starts to show now. When it comes to taking action on your budget, it will be much easier to make changes on your variable expenses like cutting off newspapers, downgrading Dstv, join a lift club, etc.
Your financial discipline will show by how you deal with your expenditure items. The money that you will ‘recover’ from this action can immediately go towards reducing your debts or building up your savings or investments. Whilst at this, you may start thinking about other ways of augmenting your income, start a part time business, do weekend jobs, etc. This might be easy to do for some but I strongly recommend that you get your expenses under control prior to worrying about your income.
The only liabilities you need are those that help you to acquire wealth producing assets in support of your financial goals.
continued from previous page
Where is your money going? It can shock you once you establish what you are spending your money on, weekend splurges, takeaways, all these unnecessary expenses may surprise you when you see the real figures. Living on budget will limit your expenditure as you start spending only as planned or in some cases simply avoiding the expenditure. It is only through the use of a budget that you can understand or see where your money is going.
Evaluating your financial state There is a quote I read somewhere to the effect that a lot of people immediately after payday discover that they have more month at the end of the month than money at the end of each month. Maybe it is the reason why a lot of people get very anxious when payday draws near! This invariably leads many to incur credit card debt and become perpetual clients to micro-lenders. All of these non productive debts cause disastrous financial consequences. The interest rates and charges are high and place a strain on your cash flows and finances. Once you understand what is happening on your finances, it will be easier to start taking corrective action
by Morgen Moyo A Yearly Wealth Check “It is better that a man should tyrannize over his bank balance than over his fellow citizens.” John Maynard Keynes When last did you review your assets and liabilities? What impact did you have over your financial health this year? You need to conduct a yearly wealth check, grow your assets and limit your liabilities. The only liabilities you need are those that help you to acquire wealth producing assets in support of your financial goals. Know your figures and continually work on your numbers. The real value of money is derived from prudent investing and this must reflect on your personal balance sheet. Draw up a spread sheet listing all your assets and liabilities showing current values and calculate your net asset value, i.e. [Total assets – Total liabilities = Net asset value]. All your financial decisions must positively affect it. Your role is to grow this figure on a yearly basis and this is what you are worth in financial terms. Once you have done both your budget and yearly wealth check it becomes easier to develop your financial plan. Where do you wish to be financially in the next 5, 10 or 20 years?
Financial Plan “Despite what the media may lead us to believe, there is no such thing as overnight success.” Jason Lee A lot of people get lost when you start talking about a financial plan. But, again how can you attain financial security without a ‘road map’? Through your budget you can start allocating money towards savings and investments. This action leads a way to build capital over time. Once you have built a capital base, other opportunities will become available and you can start impacting on your financial destiny. As always, I advise that you approach a financial planner to assist you.
Conclusion Now that you know what your monthly surpluses look like, it’s time to save and invest. In case you are laden with debts, all hope is not lost, consciously start repaying those debts. Your financial situation will never improve until you start taking action by doing the uncomfortable, stick to your budget and goals. When the ‘test sheet’ comes at the end of the year, the results will show. All the best wishes as you take control of your financial destiny.

The African Development Bank has urged academic institutions to adapt their curriculum to enable technologydriven farming, saying there is no reason why Africa should be spending $35bn a year importing food. According to the bank’s president, Akinwumi Adesina, the rapid pace of growth in the use of drones, automated tractors, artificial intelligence, robotics and blockchain technology, will transform agriculture. He said technology transfer was needed immediately and evidence from countries such as Nigeria had demonstrated that technology coupled with strong government backing was already yielding positive results. "Technologies to achieve Africa’s green revolution exist, but are mostly just sitting on the shelves. The challenge is a lack of supportive policies to ensure that they are scaled up to reach millions of farmers," Adesina said last week in an address at the 2018 Agricultural and Applied Economics Association annual meeting, held in Washington, DC.
"It is more likely that the future farmers will be sitting in their homes with computer applications using drones to determine the size of their farms, monitor and guide the applications of farm inputs, and with driverless combine harvesters bringing in the harvest." Adesina said African universities needed to adapt their curriculum to enable technology-driven farmers and to focus on agribusiness entrepreneurship for young people.
“ All it needs to do is to harness the available technologies with the right policies and rapidly raise agricultural productivity and incomes for farmers, and assure lower food prices for consumers ” According to a recent report by the University of Stellenbosch Business School, which was commissioned by the Western Cape provincial government, agriculture could benefit from digital technology, such as blockchain, to provide product traceability, which is increasingly important for consumers. The report recommends that producers turn to blockchain technology to provide verifiable information to track food origins. Blockchain, or the distributed ledger system, has given rise to cryptocurrencies. The system uses independent computers to synchronise transactions online without the need for validation. The report says tertiary institutions will need to strengthen their courses with the theory, skills and knowledge related to the fourth industrial revolution, which will in turn attract new students to the sector. DO YOU HAVE A VALID WILL?
Jacques Loots An Admitted Attorney
I regularly ask my clients if they have a will and if they have updated it recently and I am shocked to see how many clients either do not have a valid will or have never updated an ancient will. If you don’t have a valid updated will in place when you pass away, you die intestate. What then happens is your estate will be regulated by the Intestate Succession Act 81 of 1987 and the assets will be divided between your spouse and children. This may cause delays in the finalisation of your estate. Apart from the time-consuming hassle and inconvenience you are going to put your loved one’s through, dying without a will may also result in running up unnecessary expenses for the estate in addition to the standard estate administration costs of up to 3.5% (plus VAT) of the total value of assets in the Estate. Although you are allowed to draft your own will, a valid will is not simply writing your dying wishes on a piece of paper and it is therefore advisable to make use of an attorney who has the necessary knowledge to assist you. This will also ensure that the execution of your will does not depend on one person. By making use of an attorney firm you will ensure that your will is backed up by an organisation and not only one individual.
A key benefit of having your will drawn up by an attorney is that they will guide you into creating a neat, understandable, practical and enforceable will and will ensure that your will is valid and not declared invalid after your death due to a small mistake. There are many other legalities to look out for and an attorney will be able to advise you comprehensively. A simple matter can affect the validity of your will for example, the signature of witnesses: Beneficiaries of the will are not allowed to sign the will as witnesses and we suggest that you have two witnesses that are not family related and that they sign every page of the will. You must sign the Will in the presence of the witnesses. After signature of the will keep the will in a safe place and inform your family where they can find the will. A lot of times family members do not know that there is a will at the offices of an attorney which will also have the effect that the attorney is not asked to assist with the estate and the WILL will have no value. Problems can be eliminated if you make use of an Attorney to assist you to draft you will. During wills week in the month of September Loots Attorneys and various other attorneys, in conjunction with the Law Society of South Africa, will be offering their services to the public free of charge and assist clients with the drafting of a basic will. Please make use of this opportunity and ensure that you acquire a valid will. As Ralph Waldo Emmerson said: When it comes to divide an estate, the politest men will sometimes quarrel.

It is your right to decide who should inherit your assets Your must ensure your family is provided for in terms of your last wishes. Your assets will be left to the beneficiaries of your choice. The executor who is appointed is someone you know, trust and may have chosen yourself. You will avoid extra or unnecessary costs. You will avoid unhappiness and conflict among members of your family because there are instructions on how to distribute your assets.
The executor must administer your estate according to your wishes as contained in your will. The executor can be your attorney, your spouse or a family member or friend. If you decide on a spouse, family member or friend, it is advisable also to nominate the attorney as co-executor as the attorney will deal with any legal issues.
Your ID document (and for your spouse if you have a joint will). A list of what you own (including specific personal items that you wish to bequeath to specific people) and who should get what.

3 RULES OF FOLLOWING UP
Elena Agaragimova Agar Consultancy Career/Performance Consultant – UAE, Dubai
The Art of Following Up-How we often miss opportunities because we did not follow up. When it comes to building your network for professional or personal reasons, many fail themselves simply because they don’t do the due diligence of following up with people they have met. Building relationships is an investment and it is most beneficial when it is long term. If you want to have a strong extended network, you need to invest your time in building and nurturing those relationships accordingly. Number one mistake people make is they look at networking as short term to get something they want (an opportunity, a business deal, a job, a referral, etc.). Don’t think short term, think long term. People refer people they like, they trust, and they know. That takes time to build! Networking should be organic and genuine. Just as in our personal lives, not everyone we will meet we will like and vice versa. The goal is not to connect with everyone, the goal is to connect with those who we have common interests or areas of work with, those we can get along with, those we can genuinely build a relationship with. Not everyone you will meet is going to be that and that is okay. Do not force connections. People feel when you are not genuine and frankly speaking nobody wants to have a put on/forced interaction. Keep it simple, keep it human.
3 RULES OF FOLLOW UP AND PROPER RELATIONSHIP BUILDING RULE 1: 24 HOURS When you meet a new contact, follow up with an email within 24 hours, send them a short email refreshing your conversation, thanking them for an event if they organized it, etc. If it is someone you would like to stay in touch with, then go ahead and create an action to see them again to continue the conversation. Here are some examples:
“Hi Mariam, great to meet you earlier today. I really enjoyed our chat about AI and how it will impact the future of work. It would great to stay in touch and continue the conversation. I will be in touch next week to set something up.” “Hi Leslie, I had a real pleasure speaking with you at the event today. I hope you enjoyed the sessions as well. Let’s stay in touch and I look forward to seeing you at future events.” “Hi John, pleasure to meet you at the forum yesterday. What an inspiring event, thank you for organizing. We did not get a chance to speak much, it would be great to catch up if you are available. How is next week for you?”
*TIP* When you meet anyone, write down on their business card or make note on your phone where you met, what you discussed, actions to be taken, if any, etc. Also, make sure to connect with them on LinkedIn, include a personal note when sending the invitation. This way they will see your updates, articles, news, etc. RULE 2: STAY IN TOUCH! Whether you ended up having a follow up meeting or not, if the person you have met you want to maintain contact with, you need to stay in touch! You may not need to have a follow up meeting with them at this stage, but maintain the contact. Here are some basic tips for staying in touch with people (social media such as LinkedIn has made it much easier as well, utilize it): • • • • •
Send them congratulations or holiday wishes as applicable Share useful article or news that might be of interest to them Engage in their posts on LinkedIn (in moderation) Catch up over coffee casually, if appropriate Invite them to an event which might be of interest to them, share information, knowledge, etc.
Host a group lunch or dinner, or some social activity; invite a group of contacts (if they don’t want to attend, they will just say no, so don’t be afraid to ask!) RULE 3: REBUILD A CONNECTION WHEN POSSIBLE How often have you met someone, established a connection, found common areas of interest personally or professionally, yet months went by and you never spoke with them. Then, you remember them and decided to reach out but at that stage you have not spoken with them in months and now find yourself with a dilemma of whether or not they will remember you or if it is even appropriate to reach out after months of neglecting the relationship? Quick answer: just reach out anyway, do your due diligence and send that email/make that phone call. What is the worst that will happen? They won’t respond? It is okay. Don’t answer for them and don’t make assumptions. You can say something along the lines of “Hi Mariam, I cannot believe it has been months since we last met at the forum, how have things been for you? I would love to have a chance to catch up with you and hear your updates, as well as refresh our acquaintanceship, please do let me know your availability over the next couple of weeks. I really look forward to catching up. “ Tailor it accordingly, this is just an example. Include a personal touch, be original. Building relationships should not be hard, it should be simple, organic, and genuine. Best way to get started? Just get started, that is the best way and practice makes perfect. Don’t be afraid to get out there and start connecting, building your network. What is the worst that can happen?

When it comes to productivity, we all face the same challenge—there are only 24 hours in a day. Yet some people seem to have twice the time; they have an uncanny ability to get things done. Even when juggling multiple projects, they reach their goals without fail.
"Time is really the only capital that any human being has, and the only thing he can’t afford to lose." —Thomas Edison We all want to get more out of life. There's arguably no better way to accomplish this than by finding ways to do more with the precious time you've been given. It feels incredible when you leave the office after an ultra-productive day. It's a workplace high that's hard to beat. With the right approach, you can make this happen every day. You don’t need to work longer or push yourself harder—you just need to work smarter. Ultra-productive people know this. As they move through their days they rely on productivity hacks that make them far more efficient. They squeeze every drop out of every hour without expending any extra effort. The best thing about these hacks is they're easy to implement. So easy that you can begin using them today. Give them a read, give them a whirl, and watch your productivity soar. They fight the tyranny of the urgent. The tyranny of the urgent refers to the tendency of little things that have to be done right now to get in the way of what really matters. This creates a huge problem as urgent actions often have little impact. If you succumb to the tyranny of the urgent, you can find yourself going days, or even weeks, without touching the important stuff. Productive people are good at spotting when putting out fires is getting in the way of their performance, and they’re willing to ignore or delegate the things that get in the way of real forward momentum.
"Time is what we want most, but what we use worst." - William Penn
THEY NEVER TOUCH THINGS TWICE. Productive people never put anything in a holding pattern, because touching things twice is a huge time-waster. Don’t save an email or a phone call to deal with later. As soon as something gets your attention you should act on it, delegate it or delete it. THEY EAT FROGS. “Eating a frog” is the best antidote for procrastination, and ultra-productive people start each morning with this tasty treat. In other words, they do the least appetizing, most dreaded item on their to-do list before they do anything else. After that, they’re freed up to tackle the stuff that excites and inspires them. THEY DON'T MULTITASK. Ultra-productive people know that multitasking is a real productivity killer. Research conducted at Stanford University confirms that multitasking is less productive than doing a single thing at a time. The researchers found that people who are regularly bombarded with several streams of electronic information cannot pay attention, recall information or switch from one job to another as well as those who complete one task at a time. But what if some people have a special gift for multitasking? The Stanford researchers compared groups of people based on their tendency to multitask and their belief that it helps their performance. They found that heavy multitaskers—those who multitask a lot and feel that it boosts their performance—were actually worse at multitasking than those who like to do a single thing at a time. The frequent multitaskers performed worse because they had more trouble organizing their thoughts and filtering out irrelevant information, and they were slower at switching from one task to another. Ouch. THEY GET READY FOR TOMORROW BEFORE THEY LEAVE THE OFFICE. Productive people end each day by preparing for the next. This practice accomplishes two things: it helps you solidify what you’ve accomplished today, and it ensures you’ll have a productive tomorrow. It only takes a few minutes and it’s a great way to end your workday. THEY STICK TO THE SCHEDULE DURING MEETINGS. Meetings are the biggest time waster there is. Ultra-productive people know that a meeting will drag on forever if they let it, so they inform everyone at the onset that they’ll stick to the intended schedule. This sets a limit that motivates everyone to be more focused and efficient. THEY SAY NO. No is a powerful word that ultra-productive people are not afraid to wield. When it’s time to say no, they avoid phrases such as I don’t think I can or I’m not certain. Saying no to a new commitment honors your existing commitments and gives you the opportunity to successfully fulfill them.
Research conducted at the University of California in San Francisco shows that the more difficulty that you have saying no, the more likely you are to experience stress, burnout, and even depression. Learn to use no, and it will lift your mood, as well as your productivity. THEY ONLY CHECK EMAIL AT DESIGNATED TIMES. Ultra-productive people don’t allow e-mail to be a constant interruption. In addition to checking e-mail on a schedule, they take advantage of features that prioritize messages by sender. They set alerts for their most important vendors and their best customers, and they save the rest until they reach a stopping point. Some people even set up an auto responder that lets senders know when they’ll be checking their e-mail again.

BRABUS POWERS UP THE MERCEDES-AMG
GLC63 S 4MATIC+ By Ryan Bubear Ryan has spent most of his career in online media, writing about everything from sport to politics and other forms of crime. But his true passion – reignited by a 1971 Austin Mini Mk3 still tucked lifeless in a dark corner of his garage – is of the automotive variety.

The folks over at Brabus have been rather busy of late, having recently revealed the Smart ForTwo-based 125R and then its take on the new G-Class. The latest model to come in for some attention from the Bottrop-based tuner? None other than the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S 4Matic+… Of course, Affalterbach’s angriest GLC isn’t exactly short on oomph in standard guise, with its twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 churning out 375 kW and 700 N.m. For the record, that’s enough for a claimed 0-100 km/h of just 3,8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. Brabus, however, reckons there’s more to be had from the compact SUV, offering a new “PowerXtra B40 600” performance package (for both the standard and coupé body styles) that hikes the eight-cylinder’s peak outputs to 441 kW and 800 N.m. The result is a claimed 3,6-second sprint to three figures (an improvement of two-tenths) and a new limited top speed of 300 km/h. In addition to the implementation of this plug-and-play auxiliary control module, Brabus has also ditched the standard exhaust system in favour of its own stainless exhaust arrangement, complete with flaps allowing finer control of the exhaust note. What else has Brabus thrown at the GLC63 S? Well, a number of naked-carbon body elements have been added in a bid to further enhance aerodynamics, along with tailor-made alloys measuring anywhere from 19 to 22 inches in diameter. Then there’s some bespoke tuning of the air suspension system to allow a ride height some 30 mm lower than standard. The firm furthermore says it offers a host of options for customising the interior.
