6 Considerations for Your Money

By Benito Mamaile

He doesn’t just talk business – he lives it. He does more than inspire revolution, he initiates it. He has been the catalyst for change in businesses across the country through expertise in strategy, leadership and performance enhancement systems.

Entrepreneurship is possible if the practitioner is prepared to operate out of the box and reside out there permanently

F

reddie “Tsox” Tsokolibane is currently a turnaround artist and a former educationalist in both Gauteng and Free State Education Departments.

Benito Mamaile: It is with great pleasure to feature you our ever growing digital magazine, I’m just going to get right into it; what ignited the spark in you to start a business and how did the idea for your business come about?

Freddie Tsokolibane: The experience in having started a number of projects in education departments gave me enough impetus to start my own company. BM: How has your background influenced who you are today? FT: Having been a teacher encouraged me to turn teaching into a business opportunity by addressing performance gaps in that profession.

BM: Can you kindly give us a brief about Tsox4Change. FT: Tsox 4 Change is essentially an Organizational Development company that shapes up institutional behavior, offers Change Management, Strategic Planning, Executive Coaching, Corporate Ethics, Performance Enhancement Systems, Conflict Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Teaching Model Generation and Learner Support programmes.

BM: Tell us about your achievements so far. FT: Achievements include successful turnaround of more than two hundred high schools in North west, Gauteng, Free State and the Eastern Cape. Strategic Planning: Pelonomi, Ladybrand, Thabanchu, National Bloemfontein hospitals. Further strategic planning for Quality Assurance units in both North West and Gauteng.

BM: What are some of the biggest mistakes you’ve made? FT: Mistakes I made include having under marketed my services to government departments other than education. BM: To what do you most attribute your success? What would say are the five key elements for starting and running a successful business?

FT: To run a business well one should firstly identify what one is passionate about. One should then match such passion against an identified gap. Services or products that close the identified gaps should be developed. Once the service or product is in place it should then be matched with a profitable market. Appropriate channeling should emerge between the two. Customer satisfaction and Revenue Stream will then galvanize any business initiative BM: I know that you covering neighboring countries with your work, have you ever been to overseas, if not - do you ever plan to broaden your brand in future in Europe?

MN: I have Jamaica and New York having expressed keen interest in my Performance Enhancement Systems.

BM: Do you believe there is some sort of pattern or formula to becoming a successful entrepreneur?

FT: Entrepreneurship is possible if the practitioner is prepared to operate out of the box and reside out there permanently. BM: What are your thoughts on the current business landscape in South Africa compare to other countries in Africa, or in the world? FT: I am not able at the moment to draw up a business landscape comparison between South Africa and the rest of the world, save to say that the public service decline in this country is an ideal opportunity for all sorts of entrepreneurs who can invade that space. BM: Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most? FT: I admire any other consultants whose work is scrambled after by all sorts of clients. BM: Are there any books you read? If there is, which would you recommend that every entrepreneur should read? FT: Towards influencing organizational change, I would recommend Seven Habits of Highly Effective People written by Stephen. R. Covey. BM: What are some strategies that you would recommend for making the best use of one’s time?

FT: I am personally in the knowledge industry; my time has to be spent on expanding my mental constitution incessantly.

“ BM: Has your gender ever influenced the way you do business, or have been perceived? FT: My gender has had no bearing on my operations and how my clients view me. BM: Characterize your life as an entrepreneur.

FT: As an entrepreneur I have been igniting people’s minds while pleasing their souls. BM: How did you decide on your career path?

FT: My innovation was restricted while I worked for government departments. The desire to achieve without restrictions got to be my driving force. BM: What is the biggest mistake you’ve made as an entrepreneur? FT: The biggest mistake I made was to allow the company to operate as a life styled self-employed entity for way too long before it evolve into a full blown company with independent systems. BM: How do you believe evolving technology will impact the way we do business over the next 10 years?

FT: Classrooms are soon to go fully digitized. There will be less reliance on teachers for learning, greater learner autonomy will soon render primitive teachers redundant. Virtual learning spaces will replace traditional classrooms. Home schooling will therefore expand while traditional school grades would be condensed into highly shortened periods. BM: What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started as an entrepreneur?

MN: I should have started using my brain to produce more and consume less very early in my life as an adult. BM: What would you say are the top three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

.

FT: Skills needed include independent thought and practice, innovation and trial and error. The ability to turn socio economic problems into business opportunities. BM: Did you ever deal with contention from your family concerning your entrepreneurial pursuits? How did you handle it? What would you do differently in hindsight? FT: There hasn’t been any contention from family. BM: How has being an entrepreneur affected your family life?

FT: Entrepreneurship has exposed me to financial freedom and a better quality of life for me and my family. BM: What is your greatest fear, and how do you manage fear? FT: My fear is ignited by the inevitability of ageing. I am beginning to immortalize myself by transferring my skills to my team members. BM: How do you define success? FT: Success is defined through living your dreams and being able to dream some more. BM: If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why? The person from history I could talk to is Madiba. He would have done much better as an entrepreneur than just a politician. His courage was purely entrepreneurial. BM: Where you see yourself as a brand and your business in 5 to 10 years? FT: In the not so distant future I should have replaced KPMG and Price Waters and Coopers. Tsox 4 Change will be the only Afrocentric company that facilitates African solutions towards African problems. Mr. Tsokolibane, on behalf of National Business Xposure, I’d like to say: Thank you very much for taking the time chatting to us and connect with our readers all across the globe. We really appreciate the opportunity

WHY NETWORKING DOESN’T WORK FOR YOU? By Elena Agaragimova

Elena Agaragimova Career/Performance Consultant – UAE, Dubai

Networking is a great way to meet new people, make connections, expand your circle, and ultimately be successful as a result. That being said, networking the right way is important. Networking, in my opinion, is not about quantity but quality. It is more important to gain a selected few solid, beneficial individuals to your networking circle versus hundreds of people with little knowledge of each one and no real connections. Keep these following points in mind when it comes to networking: • • • • • •

give more than you take (and give first) pick 1-3 individuals at each event you attend and make a real connection vs collecting tons of business cards follow up/stay in touch connect people (part of giving back) create relationships be genuine

Also, keep in mind, networking is about building relationships with people who can bring new insights into your career/life, offer advice, and at the same someone you can give back to and offer advice in return. Networking is not about looking for someone to help you achieve something, it is about creating meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships which often result in lifelong friendships, career success, and, sometimes, business ventures. Do not approach a person to ask for something; approach them because you are genuinely interested in the work they have done or you can help them with something or you are interested in the same field, etc. Networking is more about giving than taking The more you give, the more you receive. It is very simple how this idea works. I am a huge believer of giving back to the community and those around you. Ultimately, you gain and learn more when you give, because when you do good, good comes back to you. What are your experiences or thoughts on networking? Over the years we continue to see the number of women who play golf being in the rise which is great progress towards gender equity and transformation in golf. Golf has proven to be one of the greatest tools that can be utilised to achieve personal mastery, valuable networks, career growth, healthy lifestyle and sustainable wealth. These can be achieved through learning and applying the golf etiquette holistically in key areas of one's life.

Malethola Matube

Founder, Progressive Women In Golf

Women that play golf get a chance to learn more about how men network to actively in golf to support each other which is a much needed skill for women to learn how to work together. Children are exposed to implementing analytical skills, mathematics, science, time manage, independence and other key skills that are much needed for leadership and career development. Community development can be achieved through golf specifically for the less fortunate; by enabling exposure, inspiration and encouragement using golf as a vehicle. Golf allows an environment where a family that hardly spends time together can bond for a longer period and learn more about each family member. Organisations can achieve team building and leadership development through golf. These are some of the key reasons why women should start playing golf. By Morgen Moyo

“Go as far as you can. When you get there, you’ll be able to see further.” Zig Ziglar Life has taught me that when it comes to financial matters for my family, the buck stops on my desk. Notwithstanding whatever plans, wishes and all that, I carry the can. Since this is still early days of the year, I thought of highlighting some considerations regarding your financial matters for this year. These may not be the end all strategies but I hope that you will glean something and create value out of it and improve the health of your finances.

Considerations for Your Money The issue of financial education will impact on you unless you prefer to use professionals to handle all your savings and investment matters. If not, you will need to consider investment vehicles such as unit trusts, equities, property or the more specialized and risky investments such as Cfds, foreign currency trading, crypto-currencies etc.

There will always be pros and cons about which ever strategies that you chose but if you are not sure of the direction, the services of a qualified financial planner can always be sought.

BE FOCUSED AND DISCIPLINED DEVELOP A FINANCIAL PLAN I briefly touched on this in my last article. A lot of people switch off when you start talking about plans. In some cases, a lot of people genuinely don’t know what to write in a financial plan. In simple terms it is your financial road map. You need to know your destination first and once that is settled, the question is how you are going to get there. In this instance think of your short, middle and long term financial goals and simple right them down. How about the following examples; - To raise R35 000.00 for a motor vehicle deposit by 30th June 2018 - To build an emergency cash fund in the sum of R50 000.00 by 31st December 2019 - To raise R100 000.00 for a house deposit by 31st December 2020 - To raise R800 000.00 for University education for two of our children by 2028

You can see that there some serious funds to be put together in line with your time frames. This is part of your financial road map and you need to create various strategies to help you attain those goals.

Part of the funds will come directly from your salary for those who are employed. You can immediately see the need of budgeting and thus the allocation of funds for savings and investments. Whilst on this, the general guideline being 10% towards investments and 5% towards savings. You can push this up a bit if your budget allows.

Without these two words in your financial matters, it will be very difficult for you to attain financial success. I love to watch how the lions hunt their prey. They don’t just run, they scan the herd, they identify one animal that they will go for. Once they have done that, you can see the intensity of the focus as the chase begins. True they get outrun a number of times but you cannot take anything away from them when it comes to focus. Know what you are chasing when it comes to your financial matters. If the ‘prize’ is R5 million by 2025, God willing put your best financial energy into it. Avoid the distractions and keep your focus. The issue of financial discipline cannot be over emphasized, keep to your budget and always have the end in mind. I am in no way suggesting that life must stop because you have a financial target in mind, life must carry on. All the other goals must be given their fair share of attention. Review your investments and returns regularly and take corrective action where a need arises. INCREASE YOUR INCOME STREAMS If you are not growing financially, it simply means you are dying financially. As seen from the wild examples above, these figures may seem out of line but whatever your situation, plan big financial goals.

A lot of financially free persons have more than one income stream. These are normally passive income streams like property rentals, dividends from listed equities, profits from part-time businesses activities and so on. And yet, a lot of the average persons only rely on a monthly salary. Stretch yourself, move away from the comfort zone and do something to improve your financial well being. Read books, think, talk to others, network and you will find that answers are all out there to improve your situation. If you happen to have one income source, I strongly suggest that you consider changing that starting this year. You may remember the saying about keeping all your eggs in one basket. Companies go through phases during which they may decide to retrench staff. These things happen all the time. What if you get caught up in such a situation? Create other income streams and place some of those funds into your savings and investment programs. STAY CLEAR OF CREDIT LINES “ Will not your debtors suddenly arise? Will they not wake up and make you tremble? Then you will become their victim.’ Habakkuk 2:7 (NIV) If you have been following my articles, you would by now know my views about debt. There is obviously good and bad debt. Debt for acquiring assets provided you can afford it is good debt and debt created for consumptive expenditure or propping up one’s ego is not good debt. If it so happens that you carry a heavy debt burden, I strongly suggest you make it a priority this year that among your financial goals, there must be a goal to the effect that you will reduce or clear a particular debt. It may also be wise to approach your creditors to work out arrangements for your particular situation or at worse approach a debt counselor. Why not revisit your financial goals for this year and resolve to get out of debt this year? This strategy could be the best thing to do for yourself as you create a financially free future. NEVER STOP LEARNING “In my whole life, I have known no wise people who didn’t read all the time, none, zero. You’d be amazed how much Warren Buffett reads – and how much I read.” Charles Munger – Warren Buffett’s partner

If by any chance you think there is nothing to learn about financial matters, let me stop you there and say you are wrong! Having been in the world of finance for most of my life, the subject of money, financial markets and products can be a life’s study. No wonder everyone has a headache about money for both those with plenty of it and those still striving to get their hands on it Let alone the issue of wealth, its creation and management. When it comes to the subject of money you will just have to be in the know. Read relevant books and magazines to increase your knowledge. For those who drive most of the time it may be a good idea to get some podcasts or cd’s that you can listen to as you drive during the week. Turn your vehicle into a moving university, repeat these and soak yourself in knowledge. But best of all apply lessons learned in your financial life and I can assure you that within a few short months you will see improvements in your financial vocabulary and the state of your finances.

DEAL WITH PROCRASTINATION One of the things or habits that you will need to eliminate as the year starts is procrastination. How many times have y thought of something, a grand idea and as you go round you find someone starting out on the very idea that you once had! There is something that happens when it get to ideas, after a month or so of non implementation, it starts to die and you equally start to believe that it was not a great idea after all and by year end the idea would have long died. The major reason for all this is procrastination. The guy who coined the phrase about striking the iron whilst still hot was definitely on to something. Take action in the direction of your dreams. Some of the things you will perfect them as you go along but most of all take action and use the self starter ‘Do it Now!’ Successful people, despite working smarter are known for taking action, it is the key otherwise your dreams will simply remain as they say a pie in the sky. CONCLUSION Even if there is only one item on this article that you believe can add value to your financial health, I urge you to run with it. You life will not change unless you decide to change. Listed below are some of the books that I have to worth the read. Resources The Richest Man in Babylon - George Samuel Clason The Compound Effect – Darren Hardy The Choose Yourself Guide to Wealth - James Altucher The Magic of Thinking Big – David Schwartz PhD

How is the drought affecting South African businesses? South Africa is a water-scarce country and with less rainfall experienced in the past few years than normal, together with rapid urbanisation, it has resulted in several of the provinces being plunged into a water crisis. The Western Cape is edging closer to Day Zero, when taps will be turned off, the Eastern Cape’s drought situation is rapidly overtaking that of the Cape’s and the City of Johannesburg has again imposed Level 1 water restrictions, even after enjoying rain during the season. The country requires more water than it has, so how will a restricted water supply affect the various industries and what are the implications from an insurance perspective? THE IMPACT OF WATER RESTRICTIONS ON BUSINESSES Nurseries, swimming pool installers and car washes are obvious examples of sectors that are feeling the brunt of the restrictions, together with industries like food, beverages, tourism, mining, wine, power generation and construction. Agriculture is one of the hardest hit, with factories closing down, less planting and harvesting taking place and workers being laid off. However, there are also industries that are booming. Do you remember at the height of load-shedding, when premium prices were paid for generators and invertors? Similarly, companies that sell water tanks are experiencing a surge in business, as are those that provide artificial lawns, while there has also been a huge demand for borehole drilling as people look for alternatives to municipal water. An upside to this unfortunate state of affairs is that innovation is coming to the fore with many simple, yet effective, ideas and equipment presenting viable low-cost means of optimising our water usage. WHAT HAPPENS THE DAY WATER IS CUT OFF? Day Zero applies to Cape Town, when all water that is supplied to households and businesses will be cut off, with only vital services such as hospitals still receiving water. In this scenario, companies that do not have an alternative to the municipal supply are likely to close their doors, permanently or temporarily, because they either cannot provide their staff with safe drinking water and sanitation, or because they need vast quantities of water to perform their core function. Even if companies implement work-from-home policies, productivity will be affected. Water shortages and the threat of Day Zero are huge challenges facing companies throughout the country, together with the concomitant increased risk of diseases, which thrive in uncontrolled, unhygienic conditions.

HOW DO WATER RESTRICTIONS IMPACT A COMPANY’S INSURANCE? Insurance policies do not normally cover losses that are associated with drought, as insurance companies do not consider drought an event that directly, suddenly and unexpectedly causes damage to a business. Business owners also need to know that most insurance policies have exclusions that apply to “water shedding”, where the water supply is deliberately withheld by the local authority. It is essential for businesses to stay up to date with issues related to the drought and to revisit their risk management strategies, to ensure they make provisions for water shortages, so they are adequately protected. Many examples abound but the onus of the disclosure of material facts is paramount. If, for example, the water pressure is insufficient to support fire hoses and other extinguishing mechanisms such as sprinkler systems, report it to your local authority and to your broker. One would rather have a constructive discussion and agreement with your insurers before an event, as opposed to once the loss has already occurred. At Indwe, our objective is to try and find viable, cost-effective and practical solutions that would be acceptable to your insurers. Call your Indwe advisor on 0860 13 13 14 for peace of mind that your business is prepared to handle the effects of the current water crisis and any possible future water restrictions. All business owners know the challenges involved with the building and establishing of healthy business and although many businesses survive serious hardship and challenges, the marriages of the business owners do not. If both parties to a marriage own their own businesses this can become quite an arduous matter to resolve in divorce settlement negotiations. WHAT CAN YOU AS A BUSINESS OWNER DO TO AVOID LOSING YOUR BUSINESS IN CASE OF A DIVORCE? Registering the correct Ante Nuptial Contract prior to your marriage will ensure that the necessary protection is in place. Failure to register an Ante Nuptial Contract in South Africa will result in a marriage being regarded as in community of property. In the case of a marriage in community of property both parties to the marriage own a 50% share of the business. In the event of divorce and in the instance where the one party is unable to purchase the shares of the other party, both parties will own a 50% share in the business. You can imagine the damage that this could do to a business if 2 people who did not see a future together as husband and wife tries to manage a business together. IF NOT IN COMMUNITY THEN WHAT OTHER OPTIONS ARE THERE? When entering into an Ante Nuptial Agreement you will have the following options: 1. OUT OF COMMUNITY EXCLUDING THE ACCRUAL SYSTEM.

This has the effect that each party retains his own assets and liabilities whether acquired prior to or during the existence of the marriage. Both spouses have full and independent contractual capacity and in the event of divorce each parties retains control over their own assets. This also protects the parties against claims from the other party’s creditors which can be beneficial for the party that does not own a business as it provides protection in the event that the business of the other party fail. 2. OUT OF COMMUNITY INCLUDING THE ACCRUAL SYSTEM This is probably the most reasonable marriage system for the majority of couples. Including the accrual system permits a form of sharing, consistent with a primary objective of marriage, but permitting retention of each party’s independence of contract and ability to retain their own unique separate estates. Accrual is the sharing of what the separate estates may have grown during the existence of the marriage. Each party is allowed to deduct whatever they have brought into the marriage as a startup value and whatever was accrued during the existence of the marriage is then shared between the parties. The difference with a normal marriage in community of property is however that each party retains his or her separate estate and that the creditors of one party may not attach or sell the property of the other party for judgment debt. In practice it can be observed as follows: Each party retains his or her own estate. Each party may accumulate assets and incur liabilities without interference from or assistance of the other spouse. The estate of each party is determinable separately. In the event of divorce, the monetary value of the smaller estate is subtracted from the monetary value of the larger estate, the difference is split, and the party having the larger estate pays half of the difference between the two estates to the party with the smaller estate. Unfortunately many couples entering into a marriage decides that a marriage out of community of property is unfair to the other party as it is perceived that one party does not want to share his assets with the other party or does not trust that the marriage will survive and wants to keep everything to himself or herself. In the highly competitive society we are currently and with financial hardships killing of a lot of small businesses, this should rather be seen as a safeguard of the assets of the other party in the event that something does go wrong with the business or as a second chance that couples may have in the event of one of the parties being blacklisted for bad debt as it safeguards the name of the other party. For any questions you may have or to register your Ante Nuptial Agreement please contact our offices to set up an appointment.

Family, friends, exercise and everything else you are ignoring while building your business are the cure for burnout. In the short term, we have the ability to push ourselves incredibly hard. This could come in the form of exercise, sleeping less, extreme cognitive effort or other challenges. Over time, though, extreme effort and energy expense will catch up to us, especially if we are not taking care of ourselves. There is an emphasis in life to keep our foot on the pedal all of the time, but this can lead to burnout. Whether you have reached the point of total burnout or find yourself close to getting there, here are nine science-backed activities to help you recover and maintain more energy throughout each day: 1. TAKE A BREAK One common cause of burnout is not taking time off from work or your routine when you know you need it. When you have reached that point or find yourself getting close, take a break. In 2015, 75 percent of the employees did not use all of their vacation days. We are in a culture that emphasizes constant work, and it makes us feel like we do not have the ability to take breaks. When you think about the bigger picture, though, giving yourself a few days to decompress and recharge will leave you much better off. 2. EXERCISE Exercising is one of the best ways to rebuild energy and reinvigorate your mind. Releasing endorphins and focusing on your body, even if it is just for an hour, can play a drastic role. This is especially the case since exercising makes us healthier in body and mind. 3. LAUGH Laughter is the best medicine. Most people are worrying too much or working too hard when they reach the point of burnout. Laughing is one of the best ways to relax and warm your heart. Whether it is a movie, stand up comedy, or surrounding yourself with people who make you laugh, finding ways to genuinely laugh helps with burnout. It can also remind you to take life less seriously. Our daily activities and responsibilities can feel like life or death, when, in reality, we can be much more lighthearted. 4. SPEND TIME WITH PEOPLE YOU LOVE It is draining to put on a facade in front of people that you do not know particularly well. Around your loved ones, though, hopefully you can be yourself. This reaffirms that there are people who love you for who you are. There is a reason that we love certain friends, family, and our spouse. Being around them makes us happier and gives us energy toward other endeavors. 5. PRACTICE GRATITUDE Life is by no means easy. There are many challenges and difficulties. If you are feeling burnt out, then those rough pieces are likely at the front of your mind. That is the perfect time to be grateful for what you do have. There are so many positives and amazing opportunities around us. Despite how difficult current times might be, or how drained you are, having gratitude always helps. It will remind you what is important and how fortunate you are for what you do have. 6. DO OTHER THINGS YOU LOVE Spend more time doing what you love. Life may be busy with work and your family, but if some of your favorite hobbies have fallen away, find ways to bring them back in. Doing what we love energizes us and helps stay away from burnout. In the case where you are not able to do what you love or you do not necessarily know, do not be afraid to try new things. We get energy from learning and it is through exploration that doors will open up that we did not know existed. 7. CHANGE YOUR APPROACH You can reach the breaking point and do a few things that give you a boost but then you will slowly drift back toward that deficit. Instead, change your approach. Think about what gives you energy, what drains you and how you can create a better balance. There are a variety of ways to do this, but it does not have to always be drastic. Subtle changes in your routine and activities can drastically improve your desire to give each day your all. 8. LOVE YOURSELF Regardless of how tough times might be, do not forget to love yourself. Looking at the past with regret or looking in the mirror with disdain will not accomplish anything. Life is difficult and you are not alone in feeling like you are not in a good position. Dwelling on your situation and hardships will not help you feel better. Instead, love yourself for all that you are and think about what you need to do to take steps toward a brighter tomorrow. arewell CC, hello Arteon. Volkswagen has finally officially revealed the new Arteon at the Geneva Motor Show, positioning the swoopy newcomer above the Passat and promising that it will come in at an “attractive price”. VW says the five-door, five-seater Arteon combines the “design elements of a sports car with the elegance and space of a fastback”, describing it as an “avant-garde gran turismo”. Running on the Wolfsburg automaker’s MQB platform, the VW Arteon features a wheelbase measuring 2 841 mm, with short overhangs of the 4 862 mm long fastback body. The Arteon – which will be built in Emden in Germany – is 1 871 mm wide and 1 427 mm tall. LED headlights and daytime running lights are fitted as standard. VW describes the Arteon’s rear legroom as “excellent”, adding that the luggage space measures from 563 to 1 557 litres. Six engines (all four-cylinder mills) will be available, ranging in output from 110 kW to 206 kW. The first two power levels of the petrol and diesel engines are identical at 110 kW and 140 kW, while the most potent TSI delivers 206 kW and the most powerful TDI produces 176 kW. The base petrol engine comes in the form of the new 1,5 TSI Evo, while all other engines displace 2,0 litres. Both front-wheel and all-wheel drive will be available, depending on the market, while dual-clutch transmissions will be on offer on all models. Technical highlights in the cabin include the brand’s fully digital Active Info Display, a head-up display and the new Discover Pro infotainment system with its 9,2-inch glass screen and gesture control. Volkswagen SA last year told us that the Arteon was “under consideration” for local introduction. And, yes, that’s an R-Line .

The Arteon measures some 4 862 mm long

What do you want to achieve today? Maybe you have a big audacious goal for this week, month or year. Whatever it is from a business goal to a personal, health or fitness achievement, there are 9 simple habits that you can use to achieve anything you want. Commit to any of these simple habits and you just might become a master at getting things done. SIMPLY START Oftentimes, overcoming the inertia of no action feels like a monumental task. So, stop the procrastination and the mind games and take action, even if it’s just the smallest step forward. One trick to do this is to give yourself a countdown from 5 (5-4-3-2-1) and when you get to zero, it’s time to blast off! VISUALIZE THE FINISH LINE Another key to achieving anything you want is to imagine what you will feel like once you have achieved your objective. When you start with the end in mind, it can help motivate you because your desire to achieve the goal—and the way you feel after achieving it—makes you want to take action. SCHEDULE TIME Schedule time in your calendar to take action on the goal you wish to achieve. You should treat an appointment with yourself as important as you would an appointment with your boss. Don’t push it off, don’t double book and definitely be prepared. SCHEDULE IT FOR THE RIGHT TIME When you plan out your schedule, you need to focus on your most important tasks—the tasks that will help you achieve what you want— first. Also, high achievers are those that know when they are most productive, and schedule those important tasks during that time. MASTER MINUTES Another habit that is very useful to accomplish anything you want is to master the minutes of your day. There’s nothing more valuable than time, and the way you use the 1,440 minutes you’re given every single day is important. If you focus on hours it’s really easy to lose sight of valuable minutes that are wasted every day. REWARD YOURSELF All work and no play isn’t a recipe for success. When you make it a habit to reward yourself for achieving milestones on the way to a goal, it is extremely beneficial. Seeing a reward is within reach can push you to keep moving forward. ALWAYS CARRY A NOTEBOOK If you have a notebook with you all the time, you can free your brain from to-do lists or the burden or trying to remember your next big idea, today’s appointments or any other items that clog your brain and cause it to work less efficiently to achieve your goals. Extract the minutiae from your mind and you will find you’re much more productive on the way to achieving your goal. GET A COACH

Whether it’s a coach or a mentor, it’s important to seek guidance from others who can help you achieve your goals. You can learn from their expertise and they can also keep you accountable and help you design a plan to keep you moving toward your goals. MAKE A HABIT OF THE GOAL YOU WISH TO ACHIEVE The only way you will achieve what you want is if you are consistent in your effort to move toward your goal. That means make a habit of taking action on the goal you wish to achieve. The more consistent the effort the sooner you will get there. You really can achieve anything you want if you’re willing to put in the time and energy to make it happen. These 9 habits have the power to catapult your success if you implement them. What habits would you add to my list that helped you achieve a goal? Thank you for reading my article.
