Pakistan’s foreign policy chief, Sartaj Aziz on Monday said the key Taliban prisoner detained in Pakistan, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar was likely to be released in the next day or two but he won’t be handed over to Afghanistan Baradar, however, will not be handed over to authorities in Afghanistan, the advisor on foreign affairs to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif added while talking to a private media outfit. pag e 03
At least 12 people were killed after as many as three shooters dressed in military style uniforms opened fire in a rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, police said. DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a mid-day news conference that one of the suspected shooters is dead, while authorities are looking for two other suspects wearing green and tan military style clothing. “We have potentially two other shooters that we have not located at this point,” Lanier said. pag e 04
Taking prompt notice of the killing of three women on the directives of a tribal jirga in Darra Adam Khel, the administration on Monday announced suspending all perks and privileges of tribesmen and in return, two men have been surrendered. The political administration said two men, including the husband of one of the slain women, had been arrested so far. It said efforts for arrest of all jirga members, who on Sunday ordered execution of the three women, were underway. pag e 02
The Metropolitan Police Service London (MPS), also known as the Scotland Yard, has said that Dr Imran Farooq was about to launch a new independent political career before his death and that remained a key line of inquiry in the investigation. Police know that in July 2010, Dr Farooq set up a Facebook profile and amassed a large number of contacts through the social network. “However, we retain an open mind as to his murder,” the force said. pag e 02
Jahangir Khan Tareen, a close comrade of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, is set to replace Pervaiz Khattak as the party’s secretary general, Pakistan Today has learnt. Khattak has decided to retain his office of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister after the party asked him to relinquish his post, as according to the country’s constitution no one can hold for dual offices. pag e 05
