We feel we have a unique program at Peary. We have a fifty minute Iunch period every day-this allows extra time for students to study, avail themselves of library facilities, or if they prefer, they may enjoy the jukebox in the cafeteria. We also have a double period set-up which allows for programming of such things as films, longer and more interesting experiments, panel discussions and scheduling of outside speakers. Classes end at two-thirty. Extra-curricular activities, sports, clubs, and meetings set the pace for after school hours. Only when the shadows stretch across our campus does the last carpool Ieave for the waiting world of home and family.

principal TO OUR SIXTH GRADUATING CLASS The years since 1950 have not been particularly kind to the Class of 1968. The constant turmoil of world conditions have overshadowed every effort to improve mankind. Many nations appear to be in, or on the brink of an emotional depression and the developments in rapid communcation and travel have appeared to be more divisive than unifying. The population explosion has led many experts to predict a worldwide food famine in 1975. ln re-reading the events of the past eighteen years, experiencing the events of today, and searching the predictions of the future, it is evident that while mankind may discuss, invent, and develop "things" to make his future easier and happier, his real quest must be concerned with discussing, inventing, and developing faith in one another and in governmental bodies. This can only come from constant searching within the aura of interpersonal relationships. We must learn how to live with laws within a world which appears lawless, we must learn how to maintain individual privacy at the same time we are rapidly becoming a nonprivate world, and we must learn the universal values of nature at the same time individuals and governmental bodies want to impose their value systems on others. There is no process more complex than that of learning; there is no greater solution to be found than that of how to develop human relationships that enable the individual to experience the reality of each situation and to act in a manner consistent with his goals. You, the members of the Class of 1968, are not alone in this struggle, as a matter of fact, all indications are that you are a captive audience and it may be years before you are in position to actively influence current events. However, your immediate influence will be known at the ballot box. The youth of today have a slogan which says "Tell it like it is!" And, if we are to control mankind's problems we must "Tell it like it is!" This will be worthwhile only if we "Hear it as it is!" To "tell" and to "hear" are truly valuable onlywhen they are translated into goals and actions. The Class of 1968 is purposeful and realistic in the events of the day, and the presence of a few individuals who are extreme in their optimism or pessimism contributes to this reality and permits those with initiative to act and "find a way or make one." Robert E. Peary High School is dedicated to a man whose successes resulted not only from his intellect, careful planning, and persistence, but equally important from his willingness to examine the "whys" of his failures. Our continued emulation of these characteristics produces that irrepressible restlessness which enhances our unique Student Body and Faculty. On behalf of the Faculty, Staff and the Student Body which follows you, I thank you, the Class of 1968, the "Realistic Class," for what you have done for our school and express to you best wishes for the future.

Peary offers to its students a selection of modern and classical languages. Generally' the French, Latin, and Spanish courses seek to provide not only exercises in correct language usage, but also an understanding of the language. Through language we meet people. lt is a necessary part of these subjects to acquaint the students with the culture of the people whose language they study. Speech patterns are taught through oral exercises and lively dialogue. Each level of language study builds upon a basic foundation of basic grammar and an everincreasing vocabulary: All language laboratories are equipped with electro-mechanical devices such as tape recorders, headsets and microphones to insure a modern approach to learning through stimulating teaching.

students prepare themselves for their roles as responsible adults. lnfant care, child guidance, budget planning and home management are also offered. The dressmaking classes teach the essentials of a pleasant appearance through the selection of suitable wardrobes. Good grooming and self-reliance are significant factors during our high school years; we discover their importance as we learn to evaluate ourselves and become resourceful, well-rounded individuals.
rnusic departrnent
Mr. Robert Hubbard-chairman
Mr. Clyde Hunt
Departing from the academic aspect of our curriculum, our music department provides a stimulating atmosphere for music-minded students. lnstruction in chorus may be selected on various levels of advancement. Students in the voice-related courses learn standards for the evaluation of singing, elements of good singing (voice control and production of tone), and the appreciation of choral material. These students accept the role of providing their services for Peary's student body. Those subjects related to the effective playing of instruments offer guidance in the skills of music interpretation, performance of music and the historical significance of the works that they present.

Blair, D'
This year produced one of Peary's best basket-
ball teams. Led by high scorer Paul Coder, the team finished with an excellent record. Their success can be attributed to fine individual efforts and to the teamwork among the players. Both Tom Prestwich and Don Lyddane added their fine ball handling and good outside shooting to the team effort. Other members whb added important performances are Gary Steinfort, Andy Johnston, and Kevin Botsford. Coach Moore was ioined this year by Coach Bragonier and their combined effort added greatly to the team's success. The 1968 basketball team and their coaches all deserve credit for an excellent season.
