HG - The intelligent pump series For any plant or system to be truly efficient, its individual components must be designed for efficiency too. Boiler feed pumps in power stations consume typically 3 - 5% of their unit's power output. Consequently, any improvement in their efficiency and energy balance will directly enhance the economic efficiency of the entire plant. • • •

Global Lubricants Collaboration ExxonMobil is now a preferred global lubricants supplier for GE’s Jenbacher Type 2, 3 and 9 gas engines. As part of this new global collaboration, ExxonMobil will help owner-operators of Jenbacher gas engines enhance equipment performance through the use of its Mobil Pegasus family of premium gas engine oils. “We’ve built a strong working relationship with GE and many end users over the past two decades, but this new
collaboration validates the leadership of our Mobil Pegasus family of lubricants and underscores the many benefits they can help deliver to end users,” says Tim Hinchman, Strategic Global Alliance director at ExxonMobil. “Through this collaboration, we also look forward to working with GE to engineer new lubricant technologies for Jenbacher gas engines that will help their customers further protect their businesses in the years to come.”
For gas engine operators, these benefits include reducing the number of oil changes and oil purchases required, enhancements to the energy efficiency and reliability of their equipment, and increased engine availability while lowering operating costs. Flexible Maintenance Packages To allow each mining customer to choose the most effective maintenance strategy for its particular conditions, Weir Minerals is offering ‘infinite flexibility’ in its range of solutions to keep its equipment operating at the lowest cost per ton over its full life cycle. According to Kobus Fourie, Global Services Manager for Weir Minerals, there is a refocus in the world of maintenance, as the mining industry gains a better understanding of the value of total asset management carried out by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). “The involvement of the OEM in ongoing plant maintenance can really make a difference to reliability while reducing maintenance costs in the long term,”

says Kobus. “So, to ensure that every customer can take advantage of these benefits, we are extremely flexible in how we structure our support to suit any environment.” These maintenance arrangements include a cost-per-ton model, which allows mines to budget a set premium for a pre-determined production rate. Another option is the repair-and-exchange model, where the OEM keeps key stock related to the specific customer’s requirements, so it can supply what would normally be long lead time items in just a few hours. Kobus highlights that the OEM supplier is in the best position to understand and support their products optimally, and this is recognised by most mining companies, who will closely link their
