Its hard to believe that twelve months has passed since we were last in this beautiful theatre.
President
This year I will have the privilege of watching each performance of ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ as the President of the The Bradford Catholic Players. It is an honorary role which is awarded each year by the Executive Committee of the Society and gives each individual President the opportunity to act as an ambassador at many different functions and events. Our aim is always to produce the best show possible but we also raise funds for local charities. This year we have elected to support Martin House Children’s Hospice which provides care for young people who may have either terminal or long term illness. The The Bradford Catholic Players prides itself on its family ethos and indeed our production here at the Alhambra is a huge team event! Thank you to all our members for their hard work in bringing ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ to the Alhambra stage.

THE STORY OF
ACT 1 Musical Numbers COLONEL BUFFALO BILL Charlie, Dolly and Esemble I’M A BAD BAD MAN Frank and the Girls DOIN’ WHAT COMES NATUR’LLY Annie, the Kids and Wilson THE GIRL THAT I MARRY Frank
Annie Oakley is a backwoods girl who was toting a rifle before she could even walk. By chance she becomes involved in a shooting match with Frank Butler, the handsome star of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show. Annie wins the contest but loses her heart to Frank. Seeing a chance for a novel attraction (a lady sharp shooter) Buffalo Bill and his manager Charlie, ask Annie to join the show. They tell her all about show business and Annie goes along so she can be near to Frank. On arriving in Minneapolis, Buffalo Bill is upset to discover that a rival show, Pawnee Bill’s - Far East Show, is opening in neighbouring St Paul. Hoping for a big hit, Annie is given top billing and is put on to perform some fantastic shooting tricks. She is such a success that the visiting Indian Chief Sitting Bull adopts her, as a daughter of the Sioux Tribe. Unfortunately her success has the opposite effect on Frank who does not like the idea of being in Annie’s shadow. He quits the Show and joins up with Pawnee Bill , leaving Annie to reflect that “You Can’t Get a Man with a Gun”. Buffalo Bill’s show tours Europe and returns to America to find Pawnee Bill playing at Madison Square Garden. Both shows have gained in prestige but neither is a financial success. Both Showmen hit on the idea of a merger, each believing that the other can provide them with the financial backing to save his show from bankruptcy. The only remaining problem is how to get Annie and Frank together. Annie is convinced that anything Frank can do - she can do better - and so another shooting match is arranged. At the last minute Annie is reminded that you can’t get a man with a gun. This time she loses the match but wins her love and saves the show.

IN MEMORIAM
Marie Naylor During the Summer, we were saddened by the news that Marie had passed away. Saddened and yet consoled by many happy memories rekindled in conversations at the subsequent celebration of her life, in early Autumn. Marie was renowned for her respect of all people and for the love and support she offered many over an extended period. Within our society she was held in such high regard that she was one of our Honorary Life Vice Presidents, an honour few achieved, and an indicator of her commitment to the success of our society for many years. In debt to her, we pray that she may rest in peace and offer Lesley, David, Roger and their families our heartfelt condolences in their loss.
