PRESIDENTS PAGE
Martin Walker - President ‘Hello’ and welcome to The Alhambra and our production of ‘Dolly’. Our cycle of production, starting with selection of the show then to auditions followed by the rehearsals, is now in its final stage of performance as we head for our ’final curtain’ with great aplomb. In this our 80th year we reflect, with great pride, on the life and works of our society and its members since 1927. We acknowledge and give thanks for the range of talents and experiences that enable The Bradford Catholic Players to continue in our great traditions. It is my privilege, not only to welcome you in the knowledge that you will be thoroughly entertained and in the trust that you enjoy a safe journey home but also, to say thank you for your support which enables us to contribute to local charities throughout the year.

THE STORY OF Hello, Dolly! HELLO,DOLLY! is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi's efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well known half-a-millionaire, so that she can send his money circulating like rainwater, the way her late husband Ephraim Levi taught her. Along the way she also succeeds in matching up the young and beautiful Widow Molloy with Vandergelder's head clerk, Cornelius Hackl; Cornelius's assistant Barnaby Tucker with Mrs.Molloy's assistant Minnie Fay; and the struggling artist Ambrose Kemper with Mr.Vandergelder's weeping niece, Ermengarde. Mrs.Levi tracks down Vandergelder to his hay and feed store in Yonkers, then by train to Mrs. Molloy's hat shop in New York. In the streets of the city they are all caught up in the great Fourteenth Street Association Parade, and then to the most expensive and elegant restaurant in town, the Harmonia Gardens, where Dolly is greeted by the waiters, cooks, doormen and wine stewards in one of the most famous songs in the history of American musical comedy HELLO,DOLLY!.

IN MEMORIAM PAUL FRANCIS When we heard of Paul’s death there was a sense of shock throughout the society and beyond. It was in 1963 when playing his first principal role in ‘The Valley of Song’ that our society and audiences first recognised the huge talent Paul possessed. In the years since, he proved time and time again to be ‘one of our best’. His selfless approach to his contribution to this society, and to the world of amateur theatre, will long live in the memories of those who knew him well. Paul enjoyed an enthusiasm for life that endured; he was objective, reliable, committed, honest and true to himself and others but more than this he instilled in those around him a self confidence encouraging them to achieve their best. In our ‘performance’ world where the word ‘amateur’ is used frequently, we note that Paul was a ‘true professional’ with expectations of himself and others that demanded a corresponding response. To Rita, Jon and Angela we offer our love and support in their loss but we know they will be comforted by the many memories they, and we, hold for which we say . . . .
‘Cheers Paul, thanks for the memories!’
