Emergence 2018 Application Form & Information Pack Do you have an exciting new idea for a project or performance with young people? Would you benefit from professional support to develop your idea and practice? Would you like to showcase your work-in-progress at the Traverse Theatre & receive audience and industry feedback? Then the Chrysalis Emergence platform might be for you! Emergence is a unique opportunity for artists collaborating with young people to share a work-inprogress on the Traverse stage as part of Chrysalis 2018. Selected groups will: -
Have the opportunity to present a piece of work at an early stage of development; Receive guidance and support for the development of their work from the YTAS team and a selected professional artist; Have the opportunity to discuss their work with the audience, industry professionals and other groups of young people; Receive funding towards travel costs and presentation of their piece if required.
We are looking for expressions of interest from groups who are making exciting new work and attempting to push the art form of youth theatre. “Marvel how youth theatre has changed and see how the future looks through their eyes.” - The Guardian
Emergence Application Guidelines The guidelines below are for artists, youth theatre leaders, directors and youth theatre groups interested in their work being considered for presentation as part of Emergence: Performers taking part should be aged 14-25 and part of an identifiable youth theatre group. The work presented must be new and in development.
The scratch work presented must be under 20 minutes in length. The application should be a joint effort between the artist/group leader and their young theatremakers. Applicants must be YTAS member organisations or willing to become a member if selected. N.B. If you or your group do not fully meet these guidelines but your idea matches the aims and criteria for Emergence and the Chrysalis festival, we would still love to speak to you about your about your work and possible application. About the Chrysalis festival “A Landmark Showcase of British theatre’s most promising new artists.” - The List The Chrysalis festival is a platform for ambitious performances by young theatre-makers. It showcases emerging talent, sparks critical debate and challenges perceptions of youth theatre. With a performance programme curated by a Consortium of industry specialists, the festival is the only platform of its kind in Scotland, offering a fresh experience for audiences new to youth theatre arts. This year’s festival is at the Traverse Theatre from Thursday 15 – Saturday 17 November 2018. The festival aims to:
