One out of every three blind people in the world lives in India; this shocking figure is denoted to poor socio-economic development and an inefficient eye care service in the country. About 80%90% of the blindness is either curable or preventable. Through the purchases of India Project Sunglasses, Proof was able to donate $25,000 to Aravind Eye Care Systems that in turn built two eye clinics in Pathamadai & Vadamadurai India. Both eye clinics still service the Indian population through cost and time efficient cataracts surgeries. These surgeries drastically change the life trajectory of thousands each year.
About Aravind
Aravind Eye Hospital was founded in 1976, by Dr. G. Venkataswamy, a man known to most simply as Dr. V. In an eleven bed hospital manned by 4 medical officers, he saw the potential for what is today, one of the largest facilities in the world for eye care. Over the years, this organization has evolved into a sophisticated system dedicated to compassionate service for sight. The Aravind Eye Care System now serves as a model, for India, and the rest of the world.
