NATURE & REC Morgan County is also home to the geological “line” where the glaciers stopped their southward advance during the ice ages. As a result, the area has both flat areas and beautiful rolling hills, in addition to the most diverse soil of any county in the United States.

The gorgeous terrain of Morgan County makes it the perfect

place to enjoy hiking and outdoor adventures. It's easy to see how the ice age glaciers forged the terrain of Indiana. The northern and eastern edges of Morgan County are relatively flat, and looking southward, you can easily see the "Martinsville Hills" indicating exactly where those ancient glaciers stopped and the beautiful rolling hills of Southern Indiana begin. The area possesses both beautiful, lush rolling hills and majestic woodlands. The wooded areas are home to 80% of the Central Indiana tree canopy. When combined with the plentiful water from rivers and streams, this area became very attractive to early settlers. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, mineral water gave rise to several spas that were frequented by visitors from around the world and gave Martinsville the name "City of Mineral Water."

WINE, BEER & SPIRITS

If you love locally crafted wine, beer and spirits, here are a few Morgan County spots you’ll want to get on your must-visit list. Black Dog Brewing Company, Mooresville

Cedar Creek Winery, Brew Co & Distillery, Martinsville

Located on State Road 67, just south of Mooresville. The brewery and patio are currently 21+, but they also have a family seating area. Black Dog serves up signature brews - Shelby Dog IPA, Good Vibrations and My Girl - plus several other varieties. You’ll enjoy fun events such as trivia night and music bingo, as well as occasional live music. Their limited kitchen offers appetizers and flatbreads, and they often partner with regional food trucks on site.

Morgan County is home to Indiana’s only single-location winery, brewery and distillery! Cedar Creek offers an entire family of businesses, which is appropriate, since they’re all family-owned and operated! Located east of Martinsville off State Road 252, Cedar Creek Winery was opened by the Elsner Black Dog Brewing Company family in 2010. Since then, they’ve added Cedar NOTABLE BARS & PUBS Creek Brew Co, Cedar Creek Distillery, Cedar Creek Cigars If you can’t go straight to the and the Boutique at Cedar source, here’s a short list of Creek! You’ll find handcrafted area eateries that serve up a Indiana wine, beer and spirits selection of local and regional plus custom blend cigars and wine and beer, Indiana spirits carefully curated merchandise. and creative cocktails. (Don’t miss the soft serve beer!) The grounds are gorgeous, and Cedar Creek hosts a wide variety of live music events throughout the year so there's always a reason to plan a visit. The popular Drink at the Creek Concert Series runs May – October. A few areas are 21+, but most events are family-friendly.

A TRAVELER'S TAKE

Morgan County is a nature enthusiast’s dream come true. On a recent visit, I fell in love with the scenic roads that line the county. The curves in the road and living history along the route will take you back in time to a simpler time. The sounds of birds chirping with a slight breeze made for a drive to remember. When is the last time that you felt connected with nature? Chances are, Morgan County is calling your name.
