NATURE & REC Morgan County is also home to the geological “line” where the glaciers stopped their southward advance during the ice ages. As a result, the area has both flat areas and beautiful rolling hills, in addition to the most diverse soil of any county in the United States.
The gorgeous terrain of Morgan County makes it the perfect
place to enjoy hiking and outdoor adventures. It's easy to see how the ice age glaciers forged the terrain of Indiana. The northern and eastern edges of Morgan County are relatively flat, and looking southward, you can easily see the "Martinsville Hills" indicating exactly where those ancient glaciers stopped and the beautiful rolling hills of Southern Indiana begin. The area possesses both beautiful, lush rolling hills and majestic woodlands. The wooded areas are home to 80% of the Central Indiana tree canopy. When combined with the plentiful water from rivers and streams, this area became very attractive to early settlers. In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, mineral water gave rise to several spas that were frequented by visitors from around the world and gave Martinsville the name "City of Mineral Water."

A TRAVELER'S TAKE
“
Morgan County is a nature enthusiast’s dream come true. On a recent visit, I fell in love with the scenic roads that line the county. The curves in the road and living history along the route will take you back in time to a simpler time. The sounds of birds chirping with a slight breeze made for a drive to remember. When is the last time that you felt connected with nature? Chances are, Morgan County is calling your name.
