somehow rugby tackled out of the way. As I rubbed my eyes open, my two teenage sons were winning the race. I picked myself up, dusted myself down and
made a diversion to the en-suite. But alas it was not to be as my oldest son had made it to the bathroom first, and my youngest son also remembered the en-suite and yet again I was defeated.

First for the A 543-berth marina named Port Cyprium is to be built 30 kilometres east of Girne as part of a £12 million scheme to boost yacht tourism in North Cyprus. Work on the new marina and its linked Port Cyprium Village development of 41 luxury villas is scheduled to begin in April 2008 in and around a cove at Küçük Erenköy, between Esentepe and Tatl›su. Covering 25 dönüms, the complex is designed to maximise the yacht tourism potential of the country’s coastal waters, most of which were officially opened to the public last year for the first time since 1974. Only small areas of sea around Snake Island, Teknecik Power Station, Varosha (south Faqmagusta), and between Erenköy and Limniti on the TRNC’s western border are still “off-limits” to non-military vessels. Reference to this is clearly stated in Rod Heikell’s Imray publication “Turkish Waters & Cyprus Pilot”, fully revised seventh edition. The Port Cyprium Marina and Village complex, which is expected to be completed in two years, is a 25 minute drive from Girne and just 20 minutes from Ercan Airport via the new Geçitkale pass off the new north coast road. The marina will be equipped with full boat-lifting, repair and servicing facilities. It will also feature a clubhouse with 20 guest bedrooms, a taverna, three restaurants offering fine dining to fast food, a bowling green, gym and two tennis courts. A range of watersports, including diving and sailing, will also be available. The developer behind this ambitious scheme is London born Altan Houssein, a 52 year-old Contracts Engineer, keen yachtsman and scuba diver who holds joint Turkish Cypriot and British nationality. “I started planning for this project while working in Saudi Arabia in 1999 and have lived and breathed it seven days a week for the last nine years,” he told Property NC. “We will have the first professional marina in North Cyprus offering first-class facilities and berths which are desperately needed in this part of the Mediterranean. “I am also very proud of what we are going to achieve with the linked Port Cyprium Village. It has been designed to resemble the architecture and layout of a typical North Cyprus village such as Karaman. Traditional materials will be used and the object is to make it blend into the local landscape as if it had been there for centuries.” Mr Houssein said five of the 41 villas would be sited just 200 metres from the marina and would cost around £350,000. The remainder, ranging in size from two to three bedrooms, will be offered for sale at between £149,950 - £220,000. Buyers will also be entitled to 10 years’ free berthing for yachts up to 12 metres in length. I am investing £8million in the marina itself but with the Port Cyprium Village development, the total cost is £12 million to ensure the high specifications and quality levels which I have always envisaged. . “In terms of location, it has the great assets of being close to Girne and the airport and to the newly-opened 21-hole Korineum Golf and Country Club, www.korineumgolf.com, which is just ten minutes west along the main coastal road. “All the ingredients are here to bring high quality tourism and lifestyle to North Cyprus.” Mr. Houssein said his mission to create the marina was sparked by his passion for sailing and the fact that, like many others, he was frustrated by a lack of yachting facilities in North Cyprus. “Yacht tourism is very big business and with enormous potential,” he said. “Marinas throughout the Eastern Mediterranean are full and there is a constant need for more berths and services. “As we have now been successful in having most of the North Cyprus coastal waters opened up it is a perfect time to exploit this potential.”

The mixture of high quality entertainment, enhanced atmosphere and an ideal platform for product launches and debuts had led to praise from many of those within the marine press, in what has been regarded by some as the best Boat Show held so far at ExCel. Altan Houssein also found it interesting that the British Marine Federation also used the Show to its full potential to heighten the awareness of the industry and celebrate the successes. Over 153 joined their prestigious lunches including 19 British MPs, 17 Lords and Government Ministers including the Sports Minister, Gerry Sutcliffe and Stephen Timms, Minister for Competitiveness. During the Show, key Performance Indicators were also launched and the industry was encouraged to see healthy growth – a 6.5% growth year-on-year was reported taking the UK Leisure and Small Commercial Industry to a total revenue £2.952 billion. We would like to give you further information regarding the 2008 Propertync Property Awards in the hope to answer to any questions you may currently have; The application and judging process will be as follows; Registration forms completed by each client for each category and submitted to Roy Oswick. Application forms then to be provided by Propertync to each client for each application outlining the specific criteria areas. Applications to go through an initial assessment, once returned by the client. A team of verifiers will set out to verify each and every point stated on the application forms. This will consist of a physical attendance process, interviews, photos and all that will be necessary to deem the application as ‘verified and true’. A file to be compiled by the verifiers for each applicant showing and stating it’s criteria as officially true and verified. One member of the judges (to be agreed and nominated by the panel itself ) to attend all sites, and revisit the verified aspects of the applications, in order to confirm that the verified applications are ready for judging. This judge will act as the ‘eyes’ for the entire panel itself. The judges will have a 2 day conference approximately 2 weeks prior to the event and deicide who they each individually nominate as Gold and Platinum winners for each category. The winners will be announced on the night of the Awards. Our judges will be carefully selected and able to show a number of qualities to qualify as a judge for the event. These will include, areas of expertise in the named categories, have a history to have adjudicated at such events and have overall property industry knowledge and expertise. These judges will be selected from a worldwide arena, and not just from North Cyprus. You will be able to obtain registration forms (if you already have not been given any) to register your interest in the categories you would like to enter from Roy Oswick (0542 884 6806).
Our response rate has been brilliant. By hosting and arranging such an event, we hope to attract those worthy companies who deserve recognition not just in Cyprus, but in the World wide media for their hard work and excellence in North Cyprus. The event will be held as an ‘Oscar’ type premier evening, black tie, red carpet with several courses for dinner and consisting of international media attention. We will hold a Charity Raffle, in which ALL proceeds will go to the SOS Children’s Charity. We will begin looking for sponsors for the raffle prizes, your suggestions and comments are most welcome. Any sponsors will have free extensive media advertising prior to, and after the event. Each winner of an award will immediately have recognition from forthcoming buyers and investors. An award will be a powerful advertising tool and opportunity to publicise your achievements and highlight your company in North Cyprus. The publicity and media coverage that each and every winner will achieve from winning an award will be like no other coverage that has established from North Cyprus for approximately 12 months after the event.
