Società Produttori Sementi S.p.A. (PSB) is a long-established Italian Seed Company, founded in 1911. At present, PSB is engaged in the area of cereals (common and durum wheat) and forage plants (alfalfa). The activity of the Research Division of PSB in durum and common wheat primarily concerns obtaining competitive varieties, able to satisfy the needs of farmers, agrofood industries and consequently the final consumers. For more than 20 years, PSB has been cooperating closely with the world leader of pasta industry Barilla developing the “durum wheat production chain”. About alfalfa, PSB focuses both on the breeding of new varieties and on the maintenance of registered varieties. The aim of the breeding is to improve yield potential, adaptability to different environments and longevity of the stand, resistance to diseases and environmental stresses, forage quality and digestibility, in order to satisfy the whole forage production chain.
