BarkmoralAbout
Some people will never understand how much I love my dog, but that’s alright, my dog knows.
Constant continued professional development of all of the dog guardians at Barkmoral means that scientifically backed, up-to-date, real-life information is used to keep Very Important Pets (VIPs) healthy, safe, happy, and settled.
Barkmoral now a national multi-award-winning pet service business was born from a place of both love and frustration. Having had an awful experience with a kennel facility and with no suitable alternatives for our precious pets, we decided something had to change; our dogs and others needed a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable atmosphere in which to stay while their owners were away.
Since 2018 this has been our mission, and over seven hundred families have found their pet’s favourite holiday destination here at Barkmoral.
Thanks to our secure extra height fencing, double gated entrance, enrichment orchard, paradise paddocks, and relaxing countryside environment, the dogs always have a delightful time during the day, followed by safe suppertime snuggles by the AGA.
Barkmoral - A History
The Barkmoral Family
Starting as a passion for providing safe, luxury, high-quality care for home boarding dogs, Barkmoral has grown into a much bigger family with over 700 home-boarding clients. We know how important it is to feel valued and that with lots of paw-friends wanting their time at Barkmoral, your pup may miss out on some of the holidays they want.
To keep them well socialised between visits, some of our home boarding pups also now come for daycare, and those with butterfly brains are also benefiting from our training programmes. These are excellent services for when you are at work or for improving your relationship with your dog, but they don’t help with those extensive exotic stays that your dog wants to have here. That’s why we have created the Barkmoral Membership.

Private dining services include ditching the bowl, different feeding surfaces, snuffle mats, and honeycomb mats.
Using enrichment and adventure activities at home in your VIP’s daily life is incredibly important for canine welfare, and physical and mental health. This work must be continued while your dog is on holiday to provide consistency for their development and welfare.
As a result, the dogs wake up refreshed and prepared to cope with the day. Maintaining self-control, performing their best tricks, and remembering how to play appropriately are all more manageable tasks when they are not tired or stressed from a lack of safe, quality sleep.
For dogs to feel happy, settled and perform their best, they must get their beauty sleep. To feel comfortable and settle in their environment, dogs must remain in their household sleeping groups. Without this security, dogs’ may not get the vital deep sleep needed for rest and recovery, making them more susceptible to stress, inflammation, or pain from any health issues or ongoing injuries.
Our home-boarding VIPs have a dedicated sleep and rest area for their entire stay. This remains consistent across every holiday they have with us so that they can rest easy, knowing they are safe and secure. It truly becomes their home from home.
You want your own safe hotel room to relax in when going on holiday. You would not like to share your space with people you don’t know. At Barkmoral, your dog will enjoy that essential luxury allowing them to entirely switch off and rest peacefully and safely, rather than sharing with strangers.
These restlessness side effects can make them more reactive and unsettled, resulting in a less optimal and enjoyable stay away from home.

Training
A force-free basis to structured training and positive reinforcement helps your dog to become more confident and capable while learning to make the best choices and improving your communication with them. Kindness and compassion when rewarding the good choices your dog makes ensure your VIP is making consensual and thoughtful
In contrast, dogs whose behaviour is dictated by their handler through forceful methods or dis-proven dominance, alpha, or pack-based methods can struggle to manage their own emotions and make decisions. This can result in bursts of intense uncontainable energy in free or unstructured play, as they do not have adaptable skills. Dogs controlled in this way are used to being told what ‘not’ to do, and not taught what they can do to manage their own behaviour and interactions.

Barkmoral and the wonderful duo of mother and daughter Evelyn and Lauren have been caring for our much-loved family dogs for years.
The team at Barkmoral have been more than just daycare and boarding for me. Coire continues to have many challenges and Lauren and Evelyn have gone above and beyond to continue to be on my journey with me. They keep me positive and give me hope that things will get easier. Most of all my dog loves them to bits, he is so happy when he is at Barkmoral.
Barkmoral is a stimulating dog friendly environment where your pet’s wellbeing is at the forefront of all their services. We completely trust in their positive well-manneredenjoymentemphasisingreinforcement,ourpets’andpromotingdogs.

Finding Barkmoral and the wonderful Evelyn and Lauren has been an absolute life saver for me. Our dogs are and always have been the centre of our family. Holly our first JRT grew up with our children and taught the kids both love and responsibility. As the children have left the nest we have added to our little pack with Cookie and then with our fabulous Barkmoral born and bred, Bumble Bee. None of this would have been possible without Evelyn and Lauren.
My lovely Irish Setter Cillian has such a fabulous time at Barkmoral… a wonderful setting, with excellent care and training, just perfect! And lovely overnight boarding too!
Their care and attention to the individual dog’s needs and personalities have meant that we have been able to leave our dogs with complete peace of mind that they will be safe and loved.
Pauline Evans (Coire)
My husband and I love to travel and knowing we are leaving our precious pups in the loving and knowledgeable care of Evelyn and Lauren allows us the pleasure of having our little dog family at home but the ability to travel the world without worrying about the dogs. As we approach Barkmoral for a drop off the dogs start barking with excitement and pleasure. These guys are simply the best at what they do.

Barkmoral is our dogs’ second home. A completely unique setting where dogs can learn and play together in a safe environment, overseen by passionate and hugely experienced owner Evelyn and her daughter Lauren. It’s the only time our dogs leave us without looking back.
Having to make a trip abroad some years ago, we spent 6 months visiting many different boarders/ kennels and considered different options for our dog to board. As she has a nervous temperament, none were suitable and we considered cancelling our trip. In the last month, we discovered Barkmoral. The owner Evelyn was more than happy to take the time to answer questions and put us at ease with what she could offer for our dogs’ needs and after visiting, we were confident that Barkmoral would be suitable for our dog to be comfortable and happy. Our dog has boarded at Barkmoral on a number of occasions and after getting to know Evelyn, we’re impressed by her depth of knowledge and expertise.
Caroline McDiarmid (Bert)
We have been sending our dogs (whippets) to Evelyn and Lauren at Barkmoral for several years now. The combined experience they have with dog behaviour and training is amazing. The boarding is a ‘home from home’ with the needs of the different dogs accommodated for. Evelyn is able to read their needs brilliantly, a true dog whisperer! Our two always love going there for holidays!their

Dogs are always the prime concern to Evelyn and she picked up that ours was suffering pain even though nothing was obvious to us. She’s now on appropriate medication and physio and her life and behaviour have improved as a result. Evelyn knows how to read dogs. She has extensive knowledge of dog language and behaviour and understands their individual needs, which is why our dog trusts and enjoys being with her and she has gained more confidence due to being amongst other boarding dogs. Evelyn has also recommended dietary alterations which have made a difference to her overall health and wellbeing. Thank you Evelyn/ Barkmoral.

Thank you Evelyn for taking such good care of Bert while we were on holiday. He looks like he’s had a great time and is missing all the doggy pals he met. We will definitely use your excellent service again and would definitely recommend you to others. Thanks again.
Unfortunately, some of these problems stemmed from an unknown injury in his early life and this meant that he was struggling at a pivotal time of his development resulting in a number of other behavioural issues. Although things improved, it was not an easy road and Evelyn has continued to fully support us with Dioki, even patiently having long telephone conversations with us when we’ve been at the end of our tether and also just checking in to make sure Dioki and the family are okay. She always has such affection for Dioki and this has often motivated us to continue with the hard work and training, particularly during the very tough times. We can’t recommend Barkmoral highly enough and trust Evelyn 100% with Dioki and will only use her daycare and boarding for him as we know that his wellbeing, alongside the other dogs I’m sure, is always her top priority.

Thank you, Barkmoral, for creating this amazing haven for beloved pets!
This is, without doubt, the most wonderful place to leave your beloved pet. Having had a very bad experience with kennels last year, I vowed never to put Bob and Ted through that ever again.
We bought Ted from Barkmoral to be company for Bob. We were now the proud owners of 2 cracking little Jack Russells. When I heard that Evelyn was starting Barkmoral, I knew there was no other place I would entrust them to. We had a wonderful holiday in the knowledge that these wee darlings were having the time of their lives!
It is no exaggeration to say that without the help and support of Evelyn, we would probably not still have our dog, Dioki, and we would have missed out on having the amazing family dog that he is today. Evelyn has always gone far above and beyond our expectations when we’ve needed her help and shows such genuine care and compassion for ensuring that Dioki is a happy and healthy dog. When Dioki was six months old we reached out to Evelyn as we were struggling with issues of aggression and bite inhibition. These were alongside having a highly energetic and intelligent working dog, which we knew would be challenges but alongside the other concerns, it all felt overwhelming to have in our home alongside our toddler who was absolutely devoted to Dioki. From the initial meeting, Evelyn implemented changes and advice which made significant changes almost instantly.
I would not hesitate recommendingin Evelyn if you are looking for someone who knows about dogs and is focused on doing what’s best for them.

Evelyn, thank you so much for looking after Lola so well for the past two weeks. She has had the time of her life! We missed her terribly but could relax and enjoy our holiday knowing she was having great fun and not missing out on anything. This is the first time we have left her with someone else for any length of time and we leavehesitatewouldn’ttoherinyour
I couldn’t be happier with Evelyn and Lauren’s care of my cocker Maisie when she’s boarding at Barkmoral. Maisie is always delighted to be dropped off there, eager to meet up with the humans and dogs alike. It makes such a difference to my life to know Maisie is in a stimulating, safe and caring place when I’m away.
Evelyn was recommended to me through a friend of a friend and I am so glad to have found her to help me navigate though the trials and tribulations of owning a reactive border collie! Mac didn’t start out that way but following some health issues as a puppy, which Evelyn helped identify, Mac’s behaviour has become increasingly challenging. Evelyn’s positive reinforcement and force free methods, her calm demeanour and willingness to support and provide advice has proved invaluable to the extent I would not feel comfortable leaving Mac with anyone else! I can leave him with her safe in the knowledge all his needs that are unique to him are being met.
Diane Lowrie (Lola)
Barkmoral is the absolute best place to look after your dog. Their knowledge is second to none. My dog Spock always comes back so relaxed. They make him use his brain and tire him out in a way we have never managed. He loves going and we don’t have to worry about where we are leaving him!

• Always call, or use the ring button at the gate to contact Barkmoral at the time of collections or dropoffs and not enter the yard or go to the front door.
• Report excess barking from my dog to Barkmoral before visiting. Excessive barking may indicate struggles with frustration, anxiety, noise sensitivity, or other issues in which Barkmoral can assist. Excessive barking upsets our clients’ harmony and may cause severe distress.
Member’s Charter
• Always send my dog with a collar and tag, which is a legal requirement.
• Seek veterinary attention for any changes in my dog which affect their health or change their behaviour of my own accord or at the advice of Barkmoral
• Maintain biosecurity and dog safety rules by never entering the yard beyond the entrance gate. I will always stay on the outside of the gate.
• Always communicate regarding memberships or bookings for Boarding via email to: VIP@barkmoral.co.uk.
Safety and Security are Paramount at Barkmoral. This Charter has been created with thought and consideration for all our guest’s physical and emotional needs, our resident dogs, our other animals and our human family.
• As a Barkmoral Member, I will always maintain the Charter’s bylaws. I understand that not adhering to this Charter’s rules breaks the membership’s terms and conditions. I will ...
• Maintain total transparency regarding my dog’s health, behaviour and experiences and honestly report changes such as home situation, work, travel, and other events to Barkmoral before each stay.
• Always adhere to pick-up and drop-off times unless agreed upon by prior arrangement.
• Not engage in aversive or forceful methods of training. I understand that these methods deteriorate the human-dog relationship and break down trust, making socialisation and daily handling more complex and less enjoyable for all involved.
As a body language, reactivity specialist, and instructor, Evelyn has designed our unique packages to focus on building the owners’ knowledge of their dogs’ behaviour grounded in practical and sciencebased advice to meet the owner’s realistic wishes. Evelyn specialises in Positive Reinforcement rewardbased training and demonstrates methods, including concept and game-based training, that build the relationship between dog and owner.
Training Specialist
Evelyn facilitates the dog’s voice to ensure their needs and fears are understood and helps them to focus and answer the real-life questions they have been facing. Building quiet confidence and habitation through this dogcentred education, dogs will learn to make adaptable behavioural decisions when they find themselves in novel situations.
Having been involved in canine care and high-level equine competition for many years, Evelyn has a passion for the mental and physical assessment of dogs and horses, identifying the root cause of behavioural quirks through intentional and repressive behaviours and gait analysis, posture, and biomechanical movement.
When problems arise, asking, “Well, when will it be fixed?” is always tempting. However, this logic can not be applied to dog training. A behavioural problem is often a long time before an owner may face unfavourable behaviour. It is only fair to assume that it will take the same time to help your dog back to normality and why exact timescales are inappropriate for most training programmes. Everyone involved in a dog’s care and training must be compassionate regarding the physical and emotional welfare of the dog and revise their expectations throughout their dog’s progress.
