At UNICEF UK, we are responding with joined-up partnerships with philanthropists, corporate partners, foundations, and the iconic Soccer Aid event; to achieve further growth for UNICEF programmes. UNICEF UK is uniquely placed to develop strong, significant and large-scale corporate, foundation and philanthropic partnerships; that provide vital support for UNICEF’s activity around the world. The Deputy Executive Director for Partnerships and Philanthropy, leads on all key partnerships, including the vital insight into the work of UNICEF country offices globally, and is key to delivering ambitious financial growth to increase our support for children. We wish to encourage applications from experienced leaders drawn from a wide variety of backgrounds to enhance the diversity of our team. The successful candidate will have a proven and successful track-record of building high value relationships between corporate organisations, foundations and philanthropic supporters. Over and above that, they will be a confident role-model of UNICEF UK’s values, ensuring they truly are at the heart of everything we do, as a values-led organisation. After a rigorous recruitment process, with a key role played by our Youth Advisory Board, I am looking forward to welcoming you to the Executive Team at UNICEF UK and working with you, to achieve even more for children. Appointment Brief | 2022
At the UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK), we pull together to achieve the best possible results for children around the world. We believe in an inclusive workplace and in the power of fulfilled colleagues who share the same values and goals, enjoy their work and are motivated to do their utmost for children. Our work is guided by the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which recognise the universality of children’s rights.

ABOUT US
OUR VISION A world fit for every child. We are here for every child, particularly the most vulnerable. All over the world, including the UK, we uphold the Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and work with partners and supporters to: • Promote children’s voices • Unlock resources for programmes for children • Advocate for and create change
4
Appointment Brief | 2022
We promote children’s voices to raise any child rights violations in many ways through for example, the communications and media we deliver, through the evidence and research we develop, through our fundraising activity by raising supporter awareness. The resources we unlock include financial and non financial resources - so the supporters who provide funds and the supporters who help to influence are both important when it comes to delivering outcomes for children. The advocacy work we undertake in the UK puts child rights first by influencing policy, systems and capacity building. This area includes our UK programmes work which provides key support to health, education and local authority systems and reaches around 2 million children a year.

This strategy will provide the platform for delivering important objectives that will continue to 2025 and beyond.

STRATEGY
Over the last number of years, we have strategically invested in our Partnerships & Philanthropy Teams in order to grow our pipeline and develop opportunities. This has resulted in a steady increase in income over recent years, as well as an increase in the proportion of income generated for the organisation by the Partnerships & Philanthropy Teams (approximately 50% of 2021 income has been generated by the Partnerships & Philanthropy Teams compared to c37% in 2018).
2021 was an exceptional year for UNICEF UK and our delivery for children across the globe, with income and our pence in a pound for children reaching record highs. The organisation will further its progress towards our strategic aims by strengthening the UNICEF brand, providing the most relevant, innovative and compelling audience experience, advocating for children, enhancing the development of our pipelines and the partner journey and building on our critical capabilities - data, technology and our people. All with the aim of raising funds and driving more influence and impact for children in the UK and across the globe.
2020 and 2021 has seen UNICEF UK and the Partnerships & Philanthropy Teams achieve record income levels, in part boosted by the response to our COVID-19 appeals. We are looking for someone to build on these achievements, continuing to foster growth and considering innovative opportunities in order to take our Partnerships & Philanthropy Teams to the next level.
The Partnerships & Philanthropy directorate, consisting of the Corporate, Philanthropy, Foundations, Scotland, Sport and Partner Intelligence teams, is a vital area for UNICEF UK as we look to supercharge growth in the high value space. Due to expert relationship development and global emergency fundraising campaigns, the directorate experienced tremendous success in tough external market conditions in 2020 and 2021 and is now focused on creating a sustainable platform for future success by enabling stable growth and generating income from new and existing strategic, multi-year partnerships to continue to deliver for children.
