ABOUT THE POSITION This is a newly created position that will ensure citiesRISE maximizes its potential for global impact by accelerating the development, sourcing, and scaling of innovations that will ultimately impact millions of young people around the world. The Senior Director of Programs will be responsible for leading citiesRISE’s global programs, with a specific focus on building out the Accelerator and Learning Platform that supports scaling for mental health innovators in over 20 countries, including both citiesRISE’s signature innovations, as well as the innovation portfolios of other leading global mental health organizations, such as Grand Challenges Canada’s Global Mental Health Program. These innovations range from grassroots youth-led initiatives to global initiatives led by multinational organizations. The Senior Director of Programs will collaborate with leading global mental health organizations to forge a collective vision for impacting the entire field through the Accelerator and Learning Platform, including by bringing the best available research and formal expertise and local communities’ experiences closer together.

Specifically, the Senior Director of Programs will provide direct support to innovators, build out accelerator and learning platform services, broker and manage partnerships, create systems and structures that enable collaboration and information flow between the Accelerator and Learning Platform and citiesRISE’s local programs in four countries, and coach and mentor citiesRISE team members. The Senior Director of Programs will be a key member of citiesRISE’s senior leadership team. This role offers significant opportunities for tangible, lasting impact in mental health, both at the level of individual innovations, as well as the broader field.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Organizational Leadership and Impact • Provide leadership across citiesRISE, working closely with the CEO, the senior leadership team, and key advisors and partners to build capacity and maximize impact • Develop strategies that allow programs and services to scale their impact and maximize effectiveness • Identify interconnections between initiatives and regions to help improve and scale programs; create opportunities for sharing best practices across cities, programs, and lines of service Global Mental Health Accelerator and Learning Platform and City Programs • Own and drive the strategy for deepening and expanding citiesRISE’s Accelerator and Learning Platform work to deliver impact via supporting individual innovations and supporting collective impact at the field level • Ensure continuous innovation and programmatic excellence, coordinating between the core central and local program teams implementing and scaling innovations

• Track citiesRISE’s lines of programming:

youth engagement, innovations in schools and communities, acceleration and learning platform services, and others; ensure coordinated but differentiated delivery of these services in different communities and markets Manage and support the experts and other contributors involved in the Accelerator and Learning Platform and citiesRISE’s local programs by establishing clear goals, regular reporting, and systems to support their work Broker and manage regional, national, and global partnerships to deepen and expand the Accelerator and Learning Platform’s work Mentor and develop direct reports using a supportive and collaborative approach: assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities, and monitor and evaluate results Support program leaders as they work toward continuous improvement by providing management coaching; support them as they develop reusable frameworks and solutions to challenges Develop and track key performance indicators for innovation scaling work

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Significant experience of leading

a mix of programs, functions, products, and initiatives, including senior leadership credentials in a global and regionally dispersed context is required Significant experience as a top performer at a leading organization supporting innovation in global development or a strategy consulting firm or comparable experience is preferred Track record of translating vision and strategy into innovative and scalable program deliverables, and of translating knowledge and data into compelling product ideas Exceptional operational abilities, including budgeting, reporting and building best-in-class systems and processes to maximize efficiency and deliver high-quality results Excellent people management skills; with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams to meet and exceed ambitious goals

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer DIRECT REPORTS: Program Managers (5) LOCATION: New York, NY (preferred), Nairobi, Kenya or London, UK. Some international travel required regardless of location. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Salary and benefits dependent on location, and will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
