Power2 Chief Executive | September 2019
Welcome Dear Applicant I am so pleased you are interested in Power2 and the Chief Executive opportunity. Thousands of children and young people in England are failing to achieve their potential. Rising school exclusions, mental health issues and increasing academic pressures to perform, mean that some children are written off as failures before they have left school. Our work gives us a unique understanding of these challenges and the best way to tackle them. In June 2018 we successfully re-launched (from Teens and Toddlers) under a new name - Power2. We have the same ethos and same programmes but the new branding will allow us to potentially grow into new areas to deliver more impact and achieve greater visibility. We know that one of the ways to do this is to work with others. We are proud to partner with Teach First, British Exploring Society and Impetus and to be a member of the Fair Education Alliance. We are keen to see further partnership working as we develop our offer. We have been at the forefront of delivering for impact and in February 2018 we successfully completed the delivery phase of our second Social Investment Bond (SIB) contract in the North West. While this has helped transform our organisational capability, it was a large part of our work in the North West and resulted in a large decrease in our reach for the year. As Chief Executive you will support us to ensure greater financial sustainability and drive greater impact for young people, both of which are the foundations of our future growth in an increasingly challenging funding environment. To do that you will need to be passionate about the benefits of positive psychology on children and young people and have a relentless drive to deliver better outcomes. I think this is a truly outstanding opportunity for someone who shares our values and wants to make a lasting impact to ensure all children and young people can achieve their potential, whatever their circumstances. I do hope that you will feel moved to apply. I look forward to receiving your application. Very best, Marc St John Chair

What we do We nurture the assets, talents, resources and abilities all children possess. Everything we do focuses on at least one of three things: • Delivering programmes which incorporate mentoring and positive psychology • Evidencing everything we do
We’re most well-known for our award winning Teens and Toddlers programme. An evidence-based educational programme where young people mentor children in a nursery leading to a national award and designed to help them succeed at school. Today we reach 1,000 children a year. We want to see that number double in the next three years. It’s going to take hard work, but we’re confident we’ve set the wheels in motion to get there.
• Speaking out
Teens and Toddlers is an educational programme designed to help young people succeed at school. Our programme is delivered on one morning or afternoon per week over 16 modules. We target young people at risk of not achieving their academic potential at a crucial stage of their lives. Young people on our programme will: • Act as a mentor and a role model to a child in a nursery. • Have the opportunity to gain a national qualification in Interpersonal Skills. • Engage in group work learning which includes coaching to boost their confidence and aspirations. 4
Power2 Chief Executive | September 2019
There is a solid educational pedagogy behind the programme and a strong body of academic research supporting its key elements. 1,241 young people took part in the programme in 18/19 who displayed behaviours which could affect their health and wellbeing and school engagement. At the end of the programme teachers reported a significant improvement:
86%
improved their communication skills
88%
improved their confidence
Teens and Toddlers graduates are encouraged to join Young Leaders and all members have access to support for as long as they require it. Through the combination of experiential learning and skills based development, young people are able to obtain ‘Skills for Life’.
64 Young Leaders sessions ran in 2018/2019.
95% were encouraged by the advice and support they received.
88% felt more confident in achieving their goals.
96% would recommend Young Leaders to others.
Most of our work is in the South-East and North-West of England, where we’ve successfully pioneered and delivered two Social Impact Bonds. Evidencing our impact is part of our DNA. We’re an Impetus-PEF portfolio charity because of our ability to use data to drive impact.
