ABOUT US As the world’s leading Museum of art and design, the V&A enriches people’s lives by promoting the practice of design and increasing knowledge, understanding and enjoyment of the designed world.

We strive to make the V&A matter to more people and in that context we work to the following four strategic objectives: • to provide diverse audiences with the best quality experience and optimum access to our collections physically and digitally, • to be acknowledged and respected internationally as the world’s leading museum of art and design, • to promote, develop and contribute to the UK creative economy by leading the field in debate, inspiring designers and makers, commissioning excellent design and stimulating enjoyment and appreciation of art, design and performance, and • to operate with financial and organisational initiative and efficiency. The V&A comprises the main site at South Kensington, the V&A Museum of Childhood at Bethnal Green and the archive/study collections site at Blythe House, West London. 2013-14 has been another very successful year for the Museum, with over 3.6 million physical visitors and more than 14.5 million on-line visitors. This was partly due to the public programme and in particular David Bowie Is… which attracted record attendances at South Kensington followed by a successful world tour.

Development

Development is critical in enabling the Museum to realise its ambitions. In the last 13 years over £170million has been raised for FuturePlan - the V&A’s extensive programme of capital redevelopment. In parallel, the Development team are successfully ensuring that funds are secured for acquisitions, exhibitions, curator posts and learning. The V&A is a dynamic and inspiring place to work and the Head of Major Gifts will play a significant and meaningful role in securing its reputation and reach for years to come.

FuturePlan

FuturePlan is an ambitious and long-term programme now in its second phase which drives continuous improvement of the Museum across all areas – both front and back of house. At its heart is the constant improvement of physical and intellectual access to the V&A’s vast Grade 1 listed buildings and collections. Through a programme of renewal, displays are being revitalised, collections researched and conserved and much of the building’s original grand architecture is being restored. FuturePlan also contributes to many other V&A agendas such as engagement with the creative industries, increasing audience diversity and improving carbon efficiency.

ABOUT US Completed FuturePlan Projects

Over the last 13 years the V&A has completed over 50 building projects using the best architects and designers and transformed around 10,000 square metres of the Museum. Recently completed projects include: The Lydia and Manfred Gorvy Lecture Theatre; The Dr Susan Weber Funiture Gallery, the Weston Cast Court and The Clothworkers’ Centre for the Study and Conservation of Textiles and Fashion.

FuturePlan Phase II – Live Projects Europe 1600-1800

This Spring the V&A will open a suite of seven galleries telling the story of European art and design from 1600 to 1800. The £12.5 million project offers the opportunity to re-examine the V&A’s outstanding Baroque and Rococo collections.

Exhibition Road Building Project

The main construction work for the V&A’s Exhibition Road Building Project is already underway. Visitors will be able to walk directly into the courtyard from Exhibition Road and straight through to the Museum via a grand new entrance, and an enormous new subterranean gallery is being created to host major exhibitions. Over 80% of the £49.5million target has already been raised. It is expected that construction will be complete by the end of 2016 ready to open to the public in 2017.

First opened in 1873, the Cast Courts are among the most popular spaces in the V&A and are the only galleries in the Museum that retain their original function. Over their long history, the spaces have been subject to extensive reorganisation and redecoration, concealing much of the original fabric and design intent. The Weston Cast Court reopened in Autumn 2014 to great acclaim, and now £3-5million is needed to renovate the Northern European Cast Court.
