Dar Al Majus Fair-Trade Bazaar Bethlehem

Thousands of years ago, the Bible mentioned: "Three wise men who visited baby Jesus after his birth, bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh." Humble gifts but with great meaning, just like the handmade souvenirs of our Dar Al Majus Bazaar.

"Majus" in Arabic means Magi and "Dar" means "house"; we consider our artisans and artists suppliers as well as each customer, like part of the Dar Al Majus family. A united family sharing the story of the Nativity and promoting Palestinian cultural traditions. A family that values the past but works also to build a brighter future, embedding Palestinian heritage into each handicraft we create and sale.

Dar Al Majus Fair Trade Bazaar is a unique family where art, design and culture merge and come to life under the crafty hands of local Palestinian artists and artisans, social associations, vulnerable women, and people with mental or physical disabilities.

As Dar Al Majus Bazaar family, we are committed to equality, ethical business standards and collective growth and we are immensely grateful for the support of our customers.

You are welcome to join and support our family!

The Dar Al Majus Bazaar is located in the old city of Bethlehem and offers a collection of souvenirs inspired by the Nativity and Palestinian cultural heritage. Our bazar is fair-trade because our suppliers are mainly vulnerable women, disabled and artists from Bethlehem. Besides, the bazaar pays its suppliers a fair price and provides them with training and technical assistance to enhance the quality of their handicraft and production processes. Our bazaar can count on a network of over thirty suppliers and has a catalog of more than a hundred products selected for their quality and design.

The Dar Al Majus Bazaar is both a social and entrepreneurial project that in the vast market of religious souvenirs of the Holy Land occupies a unique fair-trade niche. Who buys from our Bazaar bring home a beautiful souvenir but also helps vulnerable people and supports the humanitarian projects of the Pro Terra Sancta Association in Bethlehem. The Dar Al Majus bazaar is environmentally friendly and does not accept plastic products in its catalog and prefers recycled materials. Finally, our bazaar contributes to the promotion of Palestinian culture into the world.

Dar Al Majus Fair-Trade Bazaar Jerusalem

Our Dar Al Majus bazaar has overcome the wall and opened a new store in the old city of Jerusalem near the Jaffa Gate. A great achievement for our social project because our special suppliers from Bethlehem will be able to access a much larger market of pilgrims and tourists and have the opportunity to both increase income and make themselves known globally. Jerusalem is one of the main global pilgrimage destinations, not just Christian ones, and welcomes millions of visitors every year. Our new store is located on the first floor of the prestigious CIC - Christian Information Center building which is part of the Custody of the Holy Land. The palace is located in front of David's Castle along the road that leads to the Armenian quarter of Jerusalem. On the second floor of the building there are multimedia attractions for pilgrims while on the top floor there is a panoramic terrace with a bar. The products of our Dar Al Majus bazaar are unique and of high quality as well as having a fair spirit and this makes the challenge of opening a store in Jerusalem very exciting and we hope for the support of all our friends and customers.

emima crafted the "Rolling Wooden Animals" from olive wood as part of Pro Terra Sancta's Project "Joint Product Development," with the toys being handcrafted by the talented Baha', who grew up at the boarding house of Jemima. Baha’ was trained in Jemima’s wood workshop. Then, he became responsible for it, designing his own products, and producing them. Consulting with the Dar Al Majus Fair Trade Bazaar, they received guidance on product development, including costing and pricing strategies. The idea for the product emerged from the team's desire to create a toy tailored to toddlers, fostering the growth of their sensory skills, mobility, and gripping abilities. Together, this collaboration enabled Jemima's team to refine their creation and successfully bring it to the Bazaar.
