We asked ourselves what we could do to lessen our burden on the earth’s energy resources. Our answer – we’ll create our own! We have covered our buildings with 10 000 solar panels. These produce approximately 2.5 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year. In way of comparison, this is the same as the average energy consumption of 600 households for one year. We are proud of our solar project, which is one of the biggest in the Randstad, the region in which we are based. Today we are not just supplying our own power; we are putting energy back into the system.

We have created the GeoGreen label; functional clothing that is made out of recycled products or sustainable fabrics; the ROMANO, for example, is made from bamboo, resulting in a jacket that is eco-friendly, functional, durable and stylish, all at the same time.

The waves and the mountains are our magical playground, and we have a responsibility to this amazing world. We are striving for more people-friendly and green practices. Here is how we are achieving this: • Protest is a member of Amfori BSCI. The goal of this organisation is to improve social performance in global supply chains. This means we offer safe, humane working conditions and fair pay. There is no child labour. The factories that we work with are regularly screened to ensure these standards are upheld. • Protest complies with the REACH standard, which addresses the production and use of chemical substances. We don’t use fabric dyes like AZO or PFC treatments that are harmful to people and animals. • Our GeoGreen label uses a wide range of fabrics, all made with minimal impact on the environment. We use recycled yarns or sustainable fabrics. We use polyester fibre made from 100% recycled plastic PET bottles, sustainable bamboo and organic cotton. • We don’t sandblast our denim. • We care about animal welfare; we use alternatives to real duck down and we never use real fur or angora wool. • Our products are transported by sea in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint. Transport by truck or by air would pollute the environment one hundred times as much. • Our clothing is designed to last a really long time; we choose durable materials and well made constructions to reduce the need to buy more and thereby reducing the impact on the environment.
Recognising our ability to make a difference, we are constantly improving how we get there.

Introducing the Protest teardrop caravan. It has adventure in its DNA. For those of you with off-road tendencies, you’re going to love this. All the hype in America, our 4 by 4 teardrop caravan is built to enjoy the ride with all terrain tyres, off-road suspension and a roll cage. The inside represents true Protest style with a built-in kitchenette and a two persons bed. The interior furnishings, like curtains and cushions, are made from fabrics from the Protest 19-01 collection. The exterior is partially covered with retro woody panelling. There’s storage for your boards and other essential adventure gear in the Imperial on the roof. This fantastic set of wheels will be put to work for a year doing Protest promotion. After this, the caravan will be auctioned off and you’ll get a chance to own this off–road wonder. All proceeds will be donated to ‘the Surf Project’.

We want to help as many people as possible to get there. That’s why Protest supports The Surf Project. This foundation started in 2014 with the aim of building self-confidence in children with Down syndrome, autism and ADHD through surfing. These children surf in small groups with a certified coach. Together with a team of psychiatrists and psychologists the Surf Project is researching the effect of surfing on the children. It’s clear that surfing improves their self-esteem. And these improved skills are crucial in their everyday lives. Here at Protest, we want to contribute to the work the Surf project is doing so we have designed the Prunelle bikini and the Limey beachshort especially with this in mind. Part of the proceeds of the sale of these garments will go directly to the Surf project.
