Marathon Team News On Sunday, March 20th, 22 PHS students will reach the culmination of 26 weeks of training as they undertake their final challenge: running the 2011 Honda LA Marathon with Students Run L.A., a non-profit organization that gives students the opportunity to undertake a life changing experience by sponsoring their training for, and participation in the LA Marathon. The participating students trained weekends at Griffith Park and participated in several training races including an 18 mile race last month in preparation to qualify to run the 26.2 mile marathon. Not only is it their intention to finish the marathon, but they have also set a common goal of doing it in 6 hours. It has taken great commitment to give up time on their weekends, getting up literally before the crack of dawn, week in and week out, during an unusually cold and wet winter. In eight days, the last leg of their journey will commence as these students, along with their three coaches, Mrs. Parodi, Mr. Rincon and Mr. Ambrose, will gather at the starting line at Dodger Stadium. Whether you plan to watch the marathon or not, please keep the PHS SRLA team in your prayers that Sunday, that they stay safe and strong as they run to achieve their goal.

From the Dean of Studies: Spring semester at PHS is now in full swing. The importance of teaching and learning cannot be overstated. As educators, we strive continually to provide quality education in our classrooms and to maintain open communication with the parents and guardians for the good of the student. We are privileged to be partnering with you in this endeavor. By now you will have received Progress Reports from the 4th Grading Period. March 16th Parent/ Student/Teacher Conferences are behind us. For anyone receiving a D or F in the 1st semester, this is a reminder to plan on participating in Summer School to make up that grade. Please plan vacations accordingly. Information on Summer School courses is available on the PHS public website and printed copies are available in the front office. Please contact Mr. Reece Talley, Dean of Faculty and Director of Summer School, ext. 109 or Mrs. Claire Hickey, Dean of Studies., ext. 115 for more information.
