ACADEMICS 2014-15 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE SWIMMING & DIVING Providence College is primarily a coeducational four-year undergraduate college of liberal arts and sciences. Its main objective is the intellectual development of its students through the disciplines of the sciences and the humanities, equipping them to become productive and responsible citizens of a democratic society. To be eligible for a degree, a student must accumulate 116 credit hours over an eight semester period with an overall quality point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, a student must complete a minimum of 24 upper-division credits in the field of their major with an overall 2.0 cumulative average unless stipulated. Included in the total credit hours are the following prerequisites for any degree: Development of Western Civilization (20); Social Sciences (6); Natural Science (6); Philosophy (6); Theology (6); Mathematics (3) and Fine Arts (3). The remaining credit hours are elective with at least nine coming from areas outside one’s major. In addition, all students establish English (writing) Proficiency by coursework or standards designated by the English Department. The most popular majors are biology, marketing, management, finance, accounting, psychology, political science and education. Although this may seem overwhelming on paper, our staff goes to great lengths to monitor each student’s academic progress. It’s a system that Providence is quite proud of and one which we’ve worked long and hard to establish. Any student-athlete who feels the need for tutorial assistance can utilize the college’s tutorial center, as well as the athletic department’s advisors who can supply them with individuals capable of assisting them in their particular course of study.

Office of Academic Services The Office of Academic Services (OAS) provides specialized support to student-athletes in light of the unique time demands, responsibilities, and rules governing participation in intercollegiate athletics. Holistic services are provided in a safe, personal environment where academic growth is a priority, personal development and independence are enhanced, and long-term success is nurtured by a staff which models these same commitments. Student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the classroom as well as on the field or court, may be nominated for the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team, the HOCKEY EAST Academic Honor Roll, NFHCA Division I Academic Team or Academic AllAmerican Program presented by CoSIDA. ADMINISTRATION 2014-15 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE SWIMMING & DIVING ROBERT G. DRISCOLL, JR. ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT / ATHLETICS DIRECTOR

Entering his 13th season as Providence College’s Associate Vice President & Athletics Director, Bob Driscoll has transformed and reinvigorated Providence College’s athletics program. Having established a vision of student-athlete success in the classroom, in the community and in competing for championships, Driscoll maintains focus on fostering one of the nation’s most respected programs. During the 2013-14 academic year, Driscoll was the architect of one of the most successful seasons in Friar history. The women’s cross country team claimed the College’s second NCAA Championship, the men’s basketball team won the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament and the men’s hockey team advanced to the NCAA East Regional Final. The men’s soccer team made a run to the BIG EAST Tournament title game and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, while the men’s cross country team placed 16th at the NCAA Championship. Additionally, the women’s cross country and track teams combined to earn seven AllAmerica honors in 2013-14. Men’s basketball senior guard Bryce Cotton, who led the BIG EAST in assists and led the nation in minutes played (39.9 mpg), earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America accolades and was named the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Providence College finished 71st (out of 297) in the 2013-14 Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The Friars finished second in the nation among Division I non-FBS/FCS institutions and their 71st-place finish marked the highest final ranking under the direction of Driscoll. During Driscoll’s tenure, the Friars have finished in the top-100 of the Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings six times and inside the top-125 during 10 of his 13 years as athletics director. The Friars also have excelled in the classroom and Providence’s studentathletes have combined for an average GPA of 3.02. Following the 2013-14 competition year, a school-record six Providence College athletic programs received Public Recognition Awards as part of the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) program. Multiple Friar teams have been honored in each of the nine years that the NCAA has given out the Public Recognition Awards. Epitomizing the drive for success in athletics and in the classroom, the 2013 women’s cross country team won the 2013 NCAA Championship, boasted three AllAmericans, earned a NCAA Public Recognition Award for the third-consecutive season, was named the USTFCCCA Division I Scholar Team of the Year and senior co-captain Emily Sisson was named the BIG EAST Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Aside from excelling in the classroom and competing for championships, Driscoll’s student-athletes are very active in the local community. Last season alone, Friar student-athletes combined for over 2,300 hours of community service and raised over $17,000 for charitable causes. Some of the charitable efforts included working with Team IMPACT, taking part in Rhode Island’s reading week, volunteering at the Special Olympics and participating in Relay for Life. Driscoll helped position the College’s athletics program for success as a member of the reorganized BIG EAST Conference, where the Friars compete against top-flight academic and athletic institutions in a new era of rivalries built on rich athletic traditions. With a long-term television contract with FOX Sports and its marquee men’s basketball championship tournament at Madison Square Garden, the BIG EAST is poised for success. Additionally, Friar hockey will continue to compete in the Hockey East Association, one of the premier hockey conferences in the nation. One of the biggest impacts Driscoll has had on the Providence College Athletics Department, and the College as a whole, has been with facility development, construction and renovation. Since his arrival in 2001, Driscoll has transformed the College’s athletics facilities. Most recently, the initial phases of construction for a new soccer and lacrosse complex began in the summer of 2014. In September of 2013 a state-of-the art renovation and 30,000-square foot addition project to Schneider Arena was completed. The project included new locker rooms, new coaches’ offices, a renovated press box, a state-of-theart video board and sound system, luxury boxes, as well as a new hockey and lacrosse strength and conditioning room. The Ray Treacy Track was built over the summer of 2013 to give the men’s and women’s cross country and track programs an improved place to train and race, as well as serving the whole Providence College community. Taylor Natatorium also underwent extensive

renovations in 2013. Other facility upgrades that have highlighted Driscoll’s tenure include an $80 million renovation of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, the home of Friar men’s basketball. The project was the result of Driscoll working strategically with lead officials in the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island. The renovations enhanced the game-day experience by adding 20 luxury boxes, new seats, a video scoreboard, sound system, updated restaurant and concession stands, team store, locker rooms and new weight training/fitness areas. These renovations enabled Providence College to successfully serve as host for the First and Second Rounds of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. In September of 2012, renovations of Alumni Hall were completed. Alumni Hall, which is the practice facility for men’s basketball and the home of the Friar women’s basketball and volleyball teams, is now a state-of-the-art facility. Kicking off Driscoll’s vision for the improved athletic facilities footprint at Providence College, the Concannon Fitness Center, an $18 million facility, opened in August of 2007, adjacent to the $6 million Lennon Family Field (Astroturf facility), which was completed in August 2005. The Fitness Center houses the Friars’ Jimmy Walker Strength and Conditioning Center for varsity studentathletes as well as administrative and coaching offices, conference rooms and locker rooms. Additionally, the Concannon Fitness Center serves the whole Providence College community and houses the recreation sports staff, furthering the bond between the campus community and Friar Athletics. Next, the Canavan Sports Medicine Center was completed in August of 2008. Driscoll established the athletic fundraising philosophy and department that has been instrumental in making program upgrades possible. He and his staff have exceeded fundraising goals on a yearly basis, achieving a 1,000% increase in fundraised dollars over a 12-year period. In July of 2014, Driscoll and his fundraising staff announced that they reached their goal of raising $4.2 million for the 2014 fiscal year. The additional revenue remains critical to building and supporting championship programs and providing the best opportunities to Providence College’s student-athletes. The funds Driscoll and his staff raise help directly support all 19 of Providence College’s Division I programs, the Friars Forever Fund and capital projects. On June 10, 2008 Driscoll was named the 2007-08 Astro Turf Athletics Director of the Year for the Division I Northeast Region at the 43rd National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Annual Convention. He also was honored in 2009 by his alma mater, Ithaca College, when he received the Distinguished Sport Industry Leader award. Currently, Driscoll is serving his first year as the President of the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association. He also represents the BIG EAST’s athletic directors on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, serves as a mentor for the Division I-AAA mentoring program and serves on the Hockey East Television Negotiations and Marketing Committees. He previously served on the NCAA Division I Management Council, the NCAA Ice Hockey Championship Committee (Chair 2010-11) and was the Chair of the BIG EAST Athletic Directors in 2011-12. Driscoll was an NCAA Fellows Programs Executive Mentor. Driscoll joined the Providence community after 14½ years in athletic administration at the University of California, Berkeley, culminating in serving as the Acting Executive Director for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports. Prior to that, he was Cal’s Executive Associate Athletic Director and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department as well as overseeing football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s water polo, rugby, strength training, equipment and the sports medicine programs. Driscoll was hired at Cal as the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services, a position he held for five years. He then assumed the position of Executive Associate Athletic Director, at which point he was responsible for the administration of 27 varsity sports, a staff of 250 and a $36 million budget. Prior to coming to Providence, he served as the Acting Executive Director for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports. During his tenure, Cal won over 20 national championships and competed in the Citrus, Copper, Alamo and Aloha Bowls. The Bears also finished as high as 12th in the NACDA Directors’ Cup. Before arriving at Cal, Driscoll served six years (1981-87) as the Athletic Director and Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Intramural Sports at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. Prior to Mills, Driscoll was Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball and Hockey Coach at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. from 1977-81. Driscoll played hockey and baseball at Ithaca College (N.Y.), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1974. He earned his Master of Science in Physical Education/Psychology of Sports from Ithaca in 1975. A native of West Concord, Mass., Driscoll was inducted into the inaugural class of Concord-Carlisle High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame (football, ice hockey and baseball) in 1993. He and his wife Cathy have three grown children.

TAYLOR NATATORIUM Opened: 1981 Renovated: 2013

Taylor Natatorium opened on the campus of Providence College in 1981 for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. The vast majority of Providence’s 19 varsity athletic programs also use the facility for strength and conditioning workouts. Renovations completed during the summer of 2013 include a tile recut of the pool deck with Friar logos being added to the walkways around the pool, a new drainage system, and new starting blocks. A new record board was also installed.

FACILITIES 2014-15 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE SWIMMING & DIVING Alumni Hall opened on the campus of Providence College in December 1955 as a new home for the men’s basketball program, housing regular season games from 1955-1971. The facility has been the home of Providence College volleyball since the program’s inception in 1977, while also serving as the home of the women’s basketball team since its first varsity season in 1974-75. The renovation project included a new ceiling, air conditioning Opened: December 1955; Renovated: 2012 and heating systems, upper level windows and new seating in the upper and lower arena. The entire communications and data systems was overhauled and a video scoreboard was installed, along with an enhanced audio system for public address and in-game entertainment needs. The renovated gym officially opened on Oct. 7, 2012 when the women’s volleyball team had their first home match of the 2012 season.

ALUMNI HALL & MULLANEY GYMNASIUM

The Control Room (pictured top left and top right) features multiple computers as well as a Tricaster system. The Tricaster controls any of the five cameras and its operator decides what is being shown on the video board. The new BSS Blu-100 audio system runs the Crown CTS 2000 amplifiers. These six amplifiers run the EV Electrovoice speakers EVF 1122D/126 as well as the Soundcraft EPM8 mixer. The upgraded control room also includes a wireless microphone system and a Listen System. The Listen Hearing Assist System assists the hearing impaired, and includes LS-03-216 receivers in the control room that people can use upon request.

JIMMY WALKER CANAVAN SPORTS MEDICINE CENTER STRENGTH & CONDITIONING CENTER Opened: Spring 2007; Completed: August 2008 Opened: August 2007

The Canavan Sports Medicine Center opened during the 2007-08 academic year and became fully operational in August 2008. The center is the primary sports medicine facility for each of the Collegeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 300+ student-athletes and its working space is roughly 4,000 square feet. This state-of-the-art facility includes nine treatment tables with assorted modality equipment and office space for the eight certified athletic trainers on staff. The space also provides two physician clinic offices, where primary care, orthopedic, chiropractic and podiatric physicians evaluate our student-athletes on a weekly basis. There also is a large rehabilitation/exercise area in the facility that houses a SwimEx rehab pool, one eight-person hot plunge pool and one eight-person cold plunge pool. Last year, an Alter-G Treadmill was added to help our student-athletes improve their recovery time.

Located in the Concannon Fitness Center, the varsity strength and conditioning facility is a 3,600 square foot area dedicated to the Friars' 19 intercollegiate athletic teams. The facility houses over 10 tons of free weights, including dumb bells ranging from five to 150 pounds and a full set of kettle bells. All hand weights, iron plates and bumper plate sets are engraved with one of the College's athletic logos. There are six Power Racks, each with an Olympic Weight-lifting platform. These training stations are extremely versatile and allow numerous athletes to perform a variety of exercises simultaneously. The facility also houses 'tools' such as stability balls, medicine balls, resistance bands, weighted vests, weighted jump ropes, plyometric jump boxes, dot drill mats, slide boards, lateral slant boards, lateral skaters, agility ladders, hurdles and numerous apparatuses to develop trunk strength and core stabilization. There also are two Woodway high performance treadmills that max out at 16.5 miles per hour.

COACHING STAFF 2014-15 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE SWIMMING & DIVING

JOHN O’NEILL HEAD COACH l 26TH SEASON John O’Neill begins his 26th year at Providence College as the head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs. The 2014-15 season marks his eighth-consecutive season with the Friars, after serving five years as head coach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. O’Neill founded the Friars program in 1984-85 and spent 17 seasons leading the program through the 2000-2001 season. Since returning to Providence, Coach O’Neill has consistently increased the number of BIG EAST qualifiers each year. During the 2013-14 season, a school-record 41 individual swimmers and divers competed at the BIG EAST Championships in Sewell, N.J. thanks in part to O’Neill’s tutelage. As head coach of the Friars, O’Neill has presided over some of the most successful squads in the history of the program. In 1986, he coached PC’s first BIG EAST individual champion, Horace Bowden. On the women’s side, O’Neill coached five different BIG EAST Champions who have won a total of 12 different events at the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships. O’Neill has received many coaching accolades, including men’s New England Coach of the Year (1999), New England Women’s Coach of the Year (1990, 1992, 1993) and BIG EAST Women’s Coach of the Year (1998). O’Neill was the head coach of the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs at West Point from 20012006. O’Neill was named Patriot League Co-Coach of the Year in men’s swimming and diving in 2004. During his tenure on Army’s pool deck, he coached 15 swimmers who set Academy records, 32 All-Patriot League performers, 11 Patriot League Champions and 16 CSCAA Academic All-Americans. O’Neill is a 1981 graduate of Springfield College where he swam for three seasons on the varsity squad. A past President of both the BIG EAST and New England Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Associations, O’Neill was inducted into the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame in 1994. He currently serves as Vice President of the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Coaches Association. O’Neill and his wife Cindy have three children, Shannon, a graduate of Springfield College, Tom, a graduate of Providence College, and Meghan, a junior at Providence College. The O’Neills reside in Cumberland, R.I.

NEWELL ROBERTS DIVING COACH l 21ST SEASON Long time Friar Diving Coach Newell Roberts heads the 2014-15 Providence diving program in his 21st year. Roberts has served as diving coach for virtually all of Coach O’Neill’s tenure at Providence. All of the Friars’ school record holders on the boards have competed for the veteran coach. In the 2012-13 season, Roberts led seniors Ben Kardian to a 15th place finish and Allie Black to a 17th place finish in the BIG EAST Championships. Black reached the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships for the third time in consecutive seasons, placing 17th in the finals. Roberts, a former All-American swimmer and diver at Keene State College, competed on the national level as a Masters diver. Roberts has also coached club diving for over 20 years.

KEVIN SALISBURY ASSISTANT COACH l 13TH SEASON Kevin Salisbury enters his 13th season with the Providence College men’s and women’s swimming and diving program. Salisbury brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as head coach at Clark University from 1990 to 2000, as well as coaching at Brown University. In addition to his duties with the Friars, Salisbury is the Associate Athletic Director at CCRI, as well as an adjunct professor in physical education and psychology. He is a 1986 graduate of the University of Rhode Island and a 1993 inductee in the Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame. Salisbury has coached camps and clinics for many years. Salisbury and his wife, Lisa reside in North Smithfield, R.I. and have three daughters, Kaitlyn, 23, Jessica, 20, and Rachel, 19.

Meghan O’Neill MANAGER l THIRD SEASON O’Neill ‘16 joins the Friars as a team manager for her third season. She is a former club and high school swimmer who has also worked at swim camps at Providence. Meghan’s brother, Tom, is a 2009 graduate of Providence College and her sister, Shannon, received her Masters from Providence in 2011. Meghan is from Cumberland, R.I. and is an English major.

KELLY LAMOREAUX GRADUATE ASSISTANT l SECOND SEASON Kelly Lamoreaux enters her second season as the Providence College Swimming and Diving Team Graduate Assistant Coach. A 2013 graduate of Providence College, Kelly was a four year member of the team. As a junior and senior, Kelly received the Big East All-Academic Team award. A Rhode Island native, Kelly has been coaching a summer league team involving 150 children since 2008, where she has earned the position of head coach for the past three years. Kelly graduated in May with a Bachelor of Art in Elementary and Special Education and is pursuing her Master of Education in Counseling at Providence College.

• The Providence men’s swimming & diving team finished the season with a 5-9-1 overall record and a 0-2-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The women’s swimming & diving team finished the season with an 11-9 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. • Providence sent a total of 35 swimmers (14 men; 21 women) and one diver (woman) to the BIG EAST Championships held at the Glouster County Institute of Technology in Sewell, N.J. from March 19 to March 22. • On Nov. 22 and Nov. 23, the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams finished second and fifth respectively at the Harold Anderson Invitational in Kingston, R.I. The men’s team took second place with 771 points, while the women’s team finished fifth with 409 points.

A brand new, state-of-the-art Colorado Time System scoreboard was installed in Providence College’s Taylor Natatorium during the 2010-11 season.

• On January 25, both the men’s and women’s squads defeated Holy Cross. The women won 15 of the 16 events including individual victories from seven different swimmers on their way to a 220-69 victory. The men were victorious in 9 of the 16 events, winning 171.5-125.5. Junior John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) and graduate student Kyle McLaughlin (Warrington, Pa.) each collected three first-place finishes. • Senior Jillian Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) led the women’s team in scoring, posting 446 points on the year, the most points earned in a single season in the history of the program. Mullany finished her career with 901.50 points, ranking first all-time

Fatigati ranks second all-time with 972.25 points. • Twenty-three records were set this season. Ten were set in a meter length pool, while 13 were set in a yard length pool. Eleven of the records were broken at the BIG EAST Championships.

• At the BIG EAST Championships, John Fatigati, junior Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.), freshman Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) and Kyle McLaughlin completed the 800y freestyle relay in 6:46.12, smashing the school record set in 1996 by five seconds. John Fatigati broke individual records in the 200y IM, 400y IM, and the 200y backstroke.

• On the women’s side at the BIG EAST Championships, junior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) finished the 100y breaststroke in 1:55.11, taking third place and breaking the 1996 school record. Jillian Mullany earned fifth place in the 50y freestyle and broke the school record set last year (23.90). Sophomore Lauren Griffin (Coatesville, Pa.) was the sole diver to represent the Friars, earning 368.10 points and finishing eighth in the competition.
