Women’s Cross Country
The Providence College women’s cross country team is hoping to continue the success of the program this coming season. The 2013 team had one of the best, if not the best, season in Friar history, winning seven of the eight races they ran. After placing first at the BIG EAST Championships, the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships and taking home the NCAA Cross Country Championship team title, the women will prepare to challenge at the 2014 NCAA Championships once again. The Friars return three athletes from the 2013 NCAA Championship team, including three-time All-American Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland). During the 2013 season, she finished fifth at the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, third at the BIG EAST Championships and third at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. At the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Collins has experience under her belt and is a two-time All-American. She finished 10th as a freshman in 2012, followed by a 39th-place finish during the 2013 campaign. Collins will enter the 2014 season after a strong outdoor track season. She posted the second-fastest 5,000 meter time by a woman at Providence College with a time of 15:31.03 at the Payton Jordan Invitational. Collins also won her first BIG EAST title in the 10,000 meters and earned Second-Team All-America honors after her 16th place finish in the 5,000 meters at the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) also will return to the Friars. As a freshman, Rocha consistently made the top five throughout the season. She finished seventh at the Boston College Invitational, seventh at the BIG EAST Championships and 12th at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships. At the 2013 NCAA Cross Country Championships, Rocha finished fourth on the team and 62nd overall. After a strong track season, running a personal-best time of 16:25.52 in the 5,000 meters at the ECAC Championships to qualify for the NCAA East Regional Championships, Rocha will look to repeat another successful cross country season. Junior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.) returns for her third season as a Friar. The Providence women have three freshman contenders to add to the mix: Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia), Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.). Ilarda will add her 5,000 meter track experience to the trio of freshman as she comes into the season with a personal best of 16:33.87. She also finished second in the 2013 Australian Under 18 Championship 1,500 meters in a time of 4:30.37. Lembo, has had a string of successes over the last two years. She will look to focus on the 3,000 and 5,000 meter events during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Three-time All-American Sarah Mary Collins (Basel, Switzerland) will join Sisson and Nagel. During the outdoor season Collins ran the second fastest 5,000 meter time by a female to attend Providence College, running a time of 15:31.03 at the Stanford Invitational. At the BIG EAST Championships, Collins won her first BIG EAST title in the 10,000 meters (15:31.03). Collins also competed at her first NCAA Outdoor Championships where she finished 16th in the 5,000 meters, and earned Second-Team All-America honors. She will look to focus on the 5,000 and 10,000 meter events. Another woman to add to the Friar women distance specialists is sophomore Catarina Rocha (Peabody, Mass.). Rocha had a stellar freshman cross country campaign. She consistently finished amongst the top five scorers on the team, with a seventh place finish at the 2013 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships and a 62nd place finish at the NCAA Championships. She transferred the success from the 2013 cross country season to the 2014 outdoor season, running a personal best in the 5,000 meters (16:25.52), qualifying for the NCAA First Round. Representing the Friars in mid-distance events are seniors Devyn Pryor (Dartmouth, Mass.) and junior Molly Keating (Rehoboth, Mass.). Pryor has been a member of several DMR’s and 4x800 meter relay teams, including the team that finished fourth in the DMR at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. She will contribute valuable relay experience as well as focusing on distances from 800 meters through the mile. During the 2013-14 season, Keating finished sixth in the 800 meters at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in a time of 2:10.37 and has also been a member of multiple DMR and 4x800 meter relay teams. She will look to lower her personal bests in both the 800 and 1,500 meter events. In the shorter events, seniors Caitlin Abelseth (Voorheesville, N.Y.), Taylor Corder (Corinth, Minn.) and Kelsey Dermody (Norton, Mass.) will look to build on their past seasons. Each of these ladies has made improvements in the 400 meter event and will continue to do so. New additions to the Friars also will look to contribute to the team’s success. Incoming freshman Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Australia) will look to improve on her 1,500 meter, 3,000 meter and 5,000 meter bests. Ilarda finished sixth at the 2014 Adelaide Track Classic in the 5,000 meters (16:33.87) and placed second in the 1,500 meters at the 2013 Australian Junior Championships. Katie Lembo (Penfield, N.Y.) and Mackenzie Barry (Mendham, N.J.) will join Ilarda in similar events. One of the nation’s most successful coaches, Ray Treacy on embarks his 31st season as Director of Cross Country and Track at Providence College. In his 30 years at Providence, Treacy has coached 59 All-Americans, who have received a total of 166 All-America accolades, six NCAA individual champions in cross country and track, who have captured 13 NCAA titles overall, 44 BIG EAST individual champions, who have captured 114 BIG EAST titles and 11 Olympians. In addition, his teams have captured two NCAA Cross Country Championship (1995 and 2013), 13 NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships, 21 BIG EAST Cross Country titles and 20 New England Championships. Treacy’s road to success began when he was a student-athlete at Providence College. The brother of 1984 Olympic silver medalist, John Treacy `78, Ray’s collegiate list of accomplishments and accolades is lengthy. He was the Friar team captain during his junior and senior seasons and collected All-America honors on three occasions. He was a two-time, New England cross country champion and won the indoor 5,000 meters at the BIG EAST Championships three times. The talented distance runner was also the IC4A Champion in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters during the 1981 and 1982 seasons, respectively. A 1982 graduate of the College, Treacy is very committed to the success of PC’s cross country and track programs. Since he took over as head coach in 1984, Treacy’s knowledge of conditioning and training has moved the Friars’ cross country and track programs into national prominence. Both the men’s and women’s cross country programs have advanced to their sports highest stage in 17 of the last 19 seasons, while the women’s team has landed a record 24 out of 25 seasons. Highlights among those 24 women’s cross country seasons include the 1990, 1995, 2003, 2004, 2012 and 2013 women’s cross country squads. These six teams all finished among the top three teams in the country at their respective years’ NCAA Cross Country Championship. The 1990 cross country team placed second with three runners in the top 20 earning All-America honors. Along with the team’s 1995 and 2013 NCAA titles, the 1990 squad’s second-place finish is one of the top accomplishments of the program along with the 2012 team’s second-place finish. The 1995 team captured the programs first NCAA title. On the road to this title, the team won their first BIG EAST and ECAC Championships. In recognition of his efforts, Treacy was named NCAA Division I Women’s National Coach of the Year, BIG EAST Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year, Rhode Island Words Unlimited Women’s Coach of the Year and NCAA District I Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year. The most recent of Treacy’s successes was the 2013 women’s cross country team capturing the programs second NCAA title. Three Friars, Emily Sisson ‘14, Laura Nagel ‘14 and Sarah Mary Collins ‘16, finished with All-America accolades to help the team secure the win. Leading up to the Championship, the team also won the BIG EAST and NCAA Northeast Regional titles. For his efforts, Treacy was named the USFTCCCA National Coach of the Year, the Northeast Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year and the Rhode Island Words Unlimited Coach of the Year. The women’s cross country team also placed third in consecutive years at the NCAA Championship, 2003 and 2004. In 2003, Kim Smith `05 and Mary Cullen ‘06 led the way. Kim Smith finished second overall, while Cullen took fifth-place to earn All-America honors. Providence was the only team to have two runners finish in the top five. The `95 women’s team also won its third Northeast Regional title, for which Treacy was 10 • 2014-15 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE XC/TRACK
named Northeast Regional Coach of the Year for the seventh time since 1990. In 2004, the women’s cross country team placed third at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive season and captured its fourth BIG EAST title. Again, the team was paced by Kim Smith, who capped off her brilliant Providence College career by winning the NCAA Cross Country Championship. Treacy also guided both the men’s and women’s cross country teams to NCAA Northeast Regional titles, for which he was again named regional Coach of the Year. The men’s cross country team made its 10th consecutive appearance at the NCAAs and finished 21st. The men’s team also won its 24th New England crown. In 2012, the women’s cross country team placed third at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships and went on to win the Northeast Regional title. At the NCAA Cross Country Championship, three Friars earned All-American honors, Collins, Sisson and Nagel, to help the team place second. On the men’s side, the cross country team was most successful in 1992 and 2000 where both teams placed third at their respective NCAA Cross Country Championship. Along with the 2000 men’s cross country teams’ third place finish, Treacy coached Keith Kelly `00 to the first ever NCAA cross country individual title won by a Friar. Over the course of his time at Providence, Kelly collected seven BIG EAST titles in cross country and track, and was a five-time All-American. Other program highlights under Treacy include Andy Keith ‘94 winning the NCAA Indoor Mile in 1992 and Mark Carroll ‘95 capturing the 5,000 meter indoor title in 1995. Keith finished his career at Providence with six All-America accolades and six BIG EAST titles. Carroll captured seven BIG EAST titles as a Friar and went on to compete at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. Success and Ray Treacy have been synonymous at Providence College. Besides his long lists of BIG EAST, ECAC, IC4A and New England Champions, Treacy was instrumental in putting together the 4x1,500 meter relay team that set the world record at the Penn Relays in 1991. For his achievements, he was named Rhode Island Words Unlimited Coach of the Year (1991). Other program highlights include the 2003-04 indoor season where Kim Smith continued her success from the cross country season onto the track. She became the first Providence female athlete to capture two NCAA titles in the same meet, winning the 3,000 and 5,000 meters in NCAA record time. Kim Smith’s time of 15:14.18 in the 5,000 meters shattered the previous NCAA record of 15:17.28, which was set in 1991. Her record still stands today. In the 3,000 meters, Kim Smith also set an NCAA record, finishing the race in 8:49.18 and eclipsing the old record of 8:53.54, which was set in 1983. Kim Smith helped the Friars to a ninth-place finish at the 2004 NCAAs, the team’s best performance since 1992 (when the Friars placed fourth). During the outdoor track season, Kim Smith won the 5,000 meters to claim her third NCAA individual title. In all, Smith set three NCAA records and four Providence College records under Treacy. The 2006 outdoor track season was another milestone for Treacy and the program. Running in her final race, Cullen won the 5,000 meters at the NCAAs and became Treacy’s ninth individual NCAA champion. The meet was successful for the men’s team, which recorded its highest finish ever at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships, placing 16th, which also was the best of any BIG EAST team. In more recent years, Danette Doetzel `09 won the BIG EAST title in the 10,000 meters at the 2009 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships, qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Doetzel concluded her illustrious career at Providence College by capturing the 10,000 meter title at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. Doetzel’s victory was the 10th NCAA individual title for the Providence College women’s track and cross country program under Treacy. 2014-15 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE XC/TRACK • 11

On the men’s side, Julian Oakley ’15 became the eighth Friar under Treacy to break the sub-four-minute mile mark, running a time of 3:58.89 for third place at the Adrien Martinez Classic on June 6. Several of Treacy’s student-athletes have gone on to leave their mark internationally. In 1996, three athletes, who trained under Treacy’s guidance at Providence, became PC’s first female track stars to compete in the Olympics. Sinead Delahunty `93 (1,500 meters), Marie McMahon ‘96 (5,000 meters) and Amy Rudolph ‘95 (5,000 meters) all competed in Atlanta, Ga. THE FOUNDING OF PROVIDENCE COLLEGE Providence College was founded in 1917 through a joint effort ofthe Diocese of Providence and the Dominican Friars of the Province of St. Joseph, with the blessing of Pope Benedict XV and the consent of the General Assembly of the State of Rhode Island. The driving force behind the development of the College was the late Rt. Rev. Matthew Harkins, D. D., Bishop of Providence, whose dream it was to create a center of advanced learning primarily for the Catholic youth of Rhode Island. However, the College’s charter demonstrates that the founders intended PC to serve members of all religious faiths as it reads: “no person shall be refused admission . . . nor shall any person be denied any of the privileges, honors, or degrees in said college on account of the religious opinion he may entertain.” Bishop Harkins’ negotiations with the Dominicans of the Province of St. Joseph and his gifts of approximately 17 acres of land and $10,000 in scholarship funds helped make Providence College a reality. With donations coming primarily from Catholics of modest means, and a pledge from the Province of St. Joseph to provide Dominican administrators and teachers, the College broke ground for the imposing Harkins Hall in 1917. Two years later, in September 1919, it opened its doors to 71 students and nine Dominican faculty members.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE THE MISSION OF THE COLLEGE Providence College is a primarily undergraduate, liberal arts, Catholic institution of higher education. Committed to fostering academic excellence through the sciences and humanities, the College provides a variety of opportunities for intellectual, social, moral and spiritual growth in a supportive environment. The College actively cultivates intellectual, spiritual, ethical and aesthetic values within the context of the Judaeo-Christian heritage. These values are nurtured by the unique tradition of the Dominican Order which emphasizes quality teaching and scholarship.
F R I A R T O W N
Providence College recognizes the unity of the human family that proceeds from its one Creator. It therefore encourages the deepest respect for the essential dignity, freedom and equality of every person and welcomes qualified women and men from all religious, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Providence College prepares its students to be responsible and productive citizens to serve in their own society and the greater world community.

Responding to the needs of Rhode Island, the Dominican Order of Preachers made a special commitment to the state in 1917 and founded Providence College — the only institution of higher learning in North America that is conducted by the Order. In 97 years, Providence College has steadily moved to a position of national prominence, while maintaining a personal, community-like atmosphere that fosters growth and development among its student population. Providence College’s rich heritage dates back to 1216, or the origins of the Dominican Order in Spain. Through the ages, the Dominican Friars became known as the “champions of the faith,” spreading the gospel message through the centuries into every corner of the globe. Today, Dominican Friars continue to spread the gospel in a wide range of remote areas of the world, to teach at every level of the United States educational system. With the Dominican tradition as its foundation, Providence College focuses on developing the entire person through its values-oriented education. The college seeks to complement a student’s knowledge with knowledge of his own values — values that will remain the foundation for sound judgment throughout a lifetime.
To that end, Providence College aims to relate its curriculum to the problems of contemporary society, offering diverse programs of study that remain grounded in the liberal arts. Students may choose from some 60 concentrations ranging from computer science to labor relations to theatre arts. In addition, qualified students who wish to structure a program not specifically provided under the regular concentrations may develop their own program with the approval of the dean of the college. As part of the core curriculum, all students take a two-year, team-taught course, Development of Western Civilization (DWC) which integrates the study of literature, philosophy, history and religious studies through the ages into a cohesive interdisciplinary unit. Situated just on the fringe of downtown Providence, the College’s location enables students to have easy access to the many social, cultural, educational and recreational amenities of urban life - the Providence Public Library; entertainment at the Providence Performing Arts Center; the Providence Place Mall, the Bank of America City Center, sporting events, entertainment and trade shows at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center and the Providence Convention Center and dozens of fine restaurants. With several other major educational institutions located in Providence, the city has become a hub of collegiate activity.

ATHLETIC ACADEMIC SERVICES The Office of Academic Services (OAS) provides specialized support to student-athletes in light of the unique time demands, responsibilities and rules governing participation in intercollegiate athletics. Services are provided in a safe, personal environment where academic growth is a priority, personal development and independence are enhanced and long-term success is nurtured by a staff which models these same commitments. Student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the classroom as well as on the field or court, may be nominated for the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team, the HOCKEY EAST Academic Honor Roll, NFHCA Division I Academic Team, or CoSIDA’s Academic All-American Program. The Providence College Athletic Department also honors student-athletes each semester who have achieved a 3.00 grade point average or higher. The student-athlete support staff includes the following: Jonathan Gomes, Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Services Kaitlyn O’Malley, Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Services/Life Skills Coordinator Jesse Strout, Student-Athlete Support Services SERVICES FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES Academic Monitoring Progress report slips (i.e., requesting information regarding class attendance and performance) are sent to each instructor for all student-athletes at least once per semester. The staff track individual progress, schedules meetings with student-athletes as appropriate and personally contacts instructors as necessary. Counseling/Mentoring The staff meets with student-athletes, individually and in groups, regarding academic, athletic, career and/or personal issues.
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS Providence College is primarily a coeducational four-year undergraduate college of liberal arts and sciences. Its main objective is the intellectual development of its students through the disciplines of the sciences and the humanities, equipping them to become productive and responsible citizens of a democratic society. To be eligible for a degree, a student must accumulate 116 credit hours over an eight semester period with an overall quality grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, a student must complete a minimum of 24 upper-division credits in the field of their major with an overall 2.0 cumulative average unless otherwise stipulated. Included in the total credit hours are the following prerequisites for any degree: Development of Western Civilization (20); Social Sciences (6); Natural Science (6); Philosophy (6); Theology (6); Mathematics (3) and Fine Arts (3). The remaining credit hours are elective with at least nine coming from areas outside one’s major. In addition, all students establish English (writing) Proficiency by coursework or standards designated by the English Department. The five most popular concentrations for the Class of 2012 were Biology, Management, Marketing, Psychology and Finance. In all, the college offers a total of 34 majors and 36 minors ranging from theatre arts to computer science. Although this may seem overwhelming on paper, our staff goes to great lengths to monitor each student’s academic progress. The Athletic Department’s Academic Advisor counsels all of the school’s athletes and assists them in any areas in which they are experiencing difficulties. It is a system that the College is quite proud of and one which we have worked long and hard to establish. Any student-athlete who feels the need for tutorial assistance can utilize the College’s tutorial center, as well as the athletic department’s advisors who can supply them with individuals capable of assisting them in their particular course of study.
Life Skills Program/Special Projects Programs and workshops on select life skills (i.e., NCAA/CHAMPS Life Skills Program) are presented, covering the following five component areas: academics, personal development, community service, athletics and career development. The OAS has collaborative relationships with many units on campus to help provide these services. Pre-Advisement/Registration The staff assists student-athletes with planning and course registration. In conjunction with the Office of Academic Records, dates are determined for preregistration each semester. Study Hall Quiet, monitored study time is available, during daytime and evening hours. Aside from excelling in the classroom and competing for championships, Driscoll’s student-athletes are very active in the local community. Last season alone, Friar student-athletes combined for over 2,300 hours of community service and raised over $17,000 for charitable causes. Some of the charitable efforts included working with Team IMPACT, taking part in Rhode Island’s reading week, volunteering at the Special Olympics and participating in Relay for Life. Driscoll helped position the College’s athletics program for success as a member of the reorganized BIG EAST Conference, where the Friars compete against top-flight academic and athletic institutions in a new era of rivalries built on rich athletic traditions. With a long-term television contract with FOX Sports and its marquee men’s basketball championship tournament at Madison Square Garden, the BIG EAST is poised for success. Additionally, Friar hockey will continue to compete in the Hockey East Association, one of the premier hockey conferences in the nation. One of the biggest impacts Driscoll has had on the Providence College Athletics Department, and the College as a whole, has been with facility development, construction and renovation. Since his arrival in 2001, Driscoll has transformed the College’s athletics facilities. Most recently, the initial phases of construction for a new soccer and lacrosse complex began in the summer of 2014. In September of 2013 a state-of-the art renovation and 30,000-square foot addition project to Schneider Arena was completed. The project included new locker rooms, new coaches’ offices, a renovated press box, a state-of-the-art video board and sound system, luxury boxes, as well as a new hockey and lacrosse strength and conditioning room. The Ray Treacy Track was built over the summer of 2013 to give the men’s and women’s cross country and track programs an improved place to train and race, as well as serving the whole Providence College community. Taylor Natatorium also underwent extensive renovations in 2013. Other facility upgrades that have highlighted Driscoll’s tenure include an $80 million renovation of the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, the home of Friar men’s basketball. The project was the result of Driscoll working strategically with lead officials in the City of Providence and the State of Rhode Island. The renovations enhanced the game-day experience by adding 20 luxury boxes, new seats, a video scoreboard, sound system, updated restaurant and concession stands, team store, locker rooms and new weight training/fitness areas. These renovations enabled Providence College to successfully serve as host for the First and Second Rounds of the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship. In September of 2012, renovations of Alumni Hall were completed. Alumni Hall, which is the practice facility for men’s basketball and the home of the Friar women’s basketball and volleyball teams, is now a state-of-the-art facility. Kicking off Driscoll’s vision for the improved athletic facilities footprint at Providence College, the Concannon Fitness Center, an $18 million facility, opened in August of 2007, adjacent to the $6 million Lennon Family Field (Astroturf facility), which was completed in August 2005. The Fitness Center houses the Friars’ Jimmy Walker Strength and Conditioning Center for varsity student-athletes as well as administrative and coaching offices, conference rooms and locker rooms. Additionally, the Concannon Fitness Center serves the whole Providence College community and houses the recreation sports staff, furthering the bond between the campus community and Friar Athletics. Next, the Canavan Sports Medicine Center was completed in August of 2008. Driscoll established the athletic fundraising philosophy and department that has been instrumental in making program upgrades possible. He and his staff have exceeded fundraising goals on a yearly basis, achieving a 1,000% increase in fundraised dollars over a 12-year period. In July of 2014, Driscoll and his fundraising staff announced that they reached their goal of raising $4.2 million for the 2014 fiscal year. The additional revenue remains critical to building and supporting championship programs and providing the best opportunities to Providence College’s student-athletes. The funds Driscoll and his staff raise help directly support all 19 of Providence College’s Division I programs, the Friars Forever Fund and capital projects. On June 10, 2008 Driscoll was named the 2007-08 Astro Turf Athletics Director of the Year for the Division I Northeast Region at the 43rd National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Annual Convention. He also was honored in 2009 by his alma mater, Ithaca College, when he received the Distinguished Sport Industry Leader award. Currently, Driscoll is serving his first year as the President of the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association. He also represents the BIG EAST’s athletic directors on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, serves as a mentor for the Division I-AAA mentoring program and serves on the Hockey East Television Negotiations and Marketing Committees. He previously served on the NCAA Division I Management Council, the NCAA Ice Hockey Championship Committee (Chair 2010-11) and was the Chair of the BIG EAST Athletic Directors in 2011-12. Driscoll was an NCAA Fellows Programs Executive Mentor. Driscoll joined the Providence community after 14½ years in athletic administration at the University of California, Berkeley, culminating in serving as the Acting Executive Director for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports. Prior to that, he was Cal’s Executive Associate Athletic Director and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department as well as overseeing football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s water polo, rugby, strength training, equipment and the sports medicine programs. Driscoll was hired at Cal as the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services, a position he held for five years. He then assumed the position of Executive Associate Athletic Director, at which point he was responsible for the administration of 27 varsity sports, a staff of 250 and a $36 million budget. Prior to coming to Providence, he served as the Acting Executive Director for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports. During his tenure, Cal won over 20 national championships and competed in the Citrus, Copper, Alamo and Aloha Bowls. The Bears also finished as high as 12th in the NACDA Directors’ Cup. Before arriving at Cal, Driscoll served six years (1981-87) as the Athletic Director and Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Intramural Sports at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. Prior to Mills, Driscoll was Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball and Hockey Coach at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. from 1977-81. Driscoll played hockey and baseball at Ithaca College (N.Y.), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1974. He earned his Master of Science in Physical Education/Psychology of Sports from Ithaca in 1975. A native of West Concord, Mass., Driscoll was inducted into the inaugural class of Concord-Carlisle High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame (football, ice hockey and baseball) in 1993. He and his wife Cathy have three grown children.
