Coach Cooley and his staff of professional educators teach basic fundamentals to advanced theory. The staff-student ratio ranges from 1:8 to 1:10. Teams are coached by college coaches, high school coaches, and college players. Each student plays on a team with players of his own age and ability. Students play at least half of every game. Students work on skills like ball handling, balance, defense, dribbling, rebounding, passing, and shooting. Students are taught conditioning exercises and drills used by college and pro players, as well as challenge and motivation techniques for the off-season. Special guests share their success secrets with students.

DEFENDING BIG EAST CHAMPS LOOKING FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON In 2014-15, the Friars will be looking to build on last season’s success in which the squad captured the BIG EAST Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 16th time in the history of the program. The 2013-14 Providence College Friars were picked to finish sixth in the Preseason BIG EAST Coaches Poll. When point guard Kris Dunn (New London, Conn.) went down with a season ending injury in an exhibition game, the outlook for the season was threatened. However, Head Coach Ed Cooley’s squad overcame a lot of adversity to finish fourth in the BIG EAST and then upset Creighton in the BIG EAST title game to capture the team’s first BIG EAST Championship since 1994 and secure the squad’s first NCAA Tournament berth since 2004. The 2014 squad was led by senior All-American Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.) and senior Kadeem Batts (Boston, Mass.). Cotton finished his career ranked fourth all-time in scoring with 1,975 career points. The two-time First Team All-BIG EAST guard earned the Dave Gavitt Trophy as the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He averaged 21.8 points per game as a senior. Batts finished third on the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.4 rpg). This season, the defending BIG EAST Champions will need to replace the production from Cotton and Batts as the team attempts to win consecutive league titles and make its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance. Leading the Friars will be senior forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.). Henton, a three-year starter for the Friars, has been a consistent scorer and rebounder since his freshman season. The veteran forward has averaged 13.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 101 career games. He ranks 20th all-time in scoring at Providence with 1,390 career points. He also has been a force on the backboards during his three seasons at Providence, registering 832 rebounds, which ranks ninth all-time at the College. Senior Carson Desrosiers (Windham, N.H.) and junior Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, N.Y.) also will make an impact in the front court. Desrosiers was the team’s sixth man last season. The 7-foot, 250-pound center averaged 3.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season. Harris was a consistent contributor in 2013-14. He finished fourth on the team in scoring and third in rebounding, averaging 11.6 points and 5.1 rebounds. He started all 35 games for the Friars in first season of action after transferring from NC State in 2012. Dunn and Junior Lomomba (Montreal, Quebec) will lead the efforts in the backcourt. Dunn, who missed 40 of the team’s 69 games over the last two seasons with two different shoulder injuries, is healthy and ready to contribute. The former McDonald’s All-American guard at New London High 64

School will serve as the team’s point guard. In 25 games as a freshman in 2012-13, he averaged 5.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Lomomba, who sat out last season, joined the Friars after transferring from Cleveland State in 2013. Similar to Dunn, Lomomba is a strong defender who will work hard on both ends of the court. Freshman forward Rodney Bullock (Hampton, Va.), graduate student Ted Bancroft (Marion, Mass.) and sophomore Casey Woodring (Darien, Conn.) are the other returnees to the Friar lineup. Bullock could make an impact in his first season of competition. Last year, he did not see any game action, but gained valuable experience practicing with the team. Woodring is a walk-on who played in seven contests in 2013-14. Bancroft is in his fifth season with the program and brings experience to the team. The former walk-on earned a scholarship last season. He has played in 72 games during his career. Head Coach Ed Cooley and his staff have brought in another strong freshman class. These six newcomers were ranked as the 26th-best recruiting class in the nation, according to ESPN.com. Newcomers Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Del.), Paschal Chukwu (Westport, Conn.), Jalen Lindsey (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Kyron Cartwright (Compton, Calif.), Tyree Chambers (Bayreuth, Germany), and Tom Planek (Oak Park, Ill.) are entering their first season with the Friars. Bentil is a 6-foot-8-inch power forward from St. Andrew’s High School in Wilmington, Del., who was ranked 86th overall according to Scout.com, No. 89 by Rivals.com, and No. 106 by CBS 247. Chukwu was another highly regarded high school player. Chukwu, a 7-foot-2-inch center, averaged 14.3 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks for Fairfield Prep in 2014. He was ranked No. 64 by Scout.com, No. 61 by Rivals.com, No. 85 by CBS 247, and No. 61 by ESPN. Lindsey attended Huntington Prep in 2014. He shot 52 percent from the field, including 43 percent from three-point territory at Huntington Prep. Lindsey was ranked No. 84 by Scout.com, No. 69 by Rivals.com, No. 100 by CBS 247, and No. 84 by ESPN. Cartwright is a quick, left-handed point guard, who came to Providence from Compton (Calif.) High School. He will provide depth in the backcourt. Chambers also will provide depth in the backcourt. The 6-foot-2inch guard played for Medi Bayreuth in Bayreuth, Germany last season. Planek is a 6-foot-6-inch walk-on from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Ill. He averaged 13 pts and 10 rebounds last season to help Fenwick capture the regional title. The Friars will be looking to have another successful season in 2014-15. Head Coach Ed Cooley has an excellent mix of returning veterans and talented newcomers looking to help the Friars defend their BIG EAST title and make another run at the NCAA Tournament in 2015.
