FIELD HOCKEY STAFF Diane Madl became the program’s sixth head coach all-time on February 4, 2002 and will embark on her ninth season at the helm in 2010. Madl and her staff have helped to rebuild the Friar field hockey program, enjoying some of the most successful seasons in program history. Since her arrival, she has transformed the field hockey program into a contender in the BIG EAST Conference and put the Friars back on the map at HEAD COACH the national level. In what began as a rebuilding process in 2002, Madl has NINTH SEASON compiled an overall record of 86-77 in eight seasons, including a 54-31 (.635) ALMA MATER • CONNECTICUT '89 mark that spans each of the last four campaigns (2006-2009). During the recent four-year stretch, Madl helped the Friars clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship each season, and have been mainstays in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches' Poll. The Friars captured the BIG EAST Conference regular-season title in 2006 and advanced to the championship game of the conference tournament twice in the last four years (2006, 2007). Providence College President, Father Brian J. Shanley and Athletics Director Bob Driscoll, recently awarded Madl with a contract extension through the 2013 season. During Madl's first three seasons on the sidelines, the team still played on a grass surface. During that initial stretch the team posted a 26-33 record, while attempting to change the culture of the program under its new leadership. In 2005, Providence field hockey started a new era with the opening of the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. The "Complex" is a state-of-the-art Astroturf facility that has helped to springboard the program back on to the national scene. After some initial growing pains in the new facility and registering a 6-13 overall record in 2005, the Friars have not looked back. The Friars' recent run of success began in 2006 in what is described as one of the most celebrated seasons in program history. The Friars posted an 18-4 overall record and captured the BIG EAST Conference Regular-Season title. Providence’s 18 victories in 2006 are tied for second most all-time in program history, while the Friars’ five league victories marks a program best. The program quickly found itself among the nation's best and was ranked in the NFHCA Division I National Coaches’ Poll for nine-consecutive weeks, including seven-straight weeks in the top-15. At season’s end, the Friars earned a final ranking of 11th. Madl was honored as the BIG EAST Conference Coach of the Year, Dita/NFHCA Division I Northeast Region Coach of the Year and Words Unlimited Coach of the Year. That same year, Lauren Sickel and Rachel Chamberlain became the first Friars since 1997 to claim All-America honors, as both players were named to the third team. Chamberlain was tabbed BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and was one of five players to earn All-BIG EAST honors and NFHCA All-Region honors. The ride continued in 2007, as the Friars posted a 14-8 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The Friars advanced to the BIG EAST Championship game for the second-straight season, after defeating No. 11 Louisville, 2-0, in the semifinals. The Friars dropped a heartbreaking, 1-0, decision to No. 4 Connecticut in the championship game the next day. In 2008, the Friars advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the third-straight season after posting a 12-9 overall record (3-3 BIG EAST). Four Friars earned All-BIG EAST and/or NFHCA All-Northeast Region accolades at season's end. Nellie Poulin became the ninth Friar in program history, and third player under the direction of Madl, to earn All-America honors as a member of the Third Team. Poulin went on to represent New England for the second-straight season at the U.S. Field Hockey High Performance Women's National ChampiA QUICK LOOK AT COACH MADL onship (2009), and finished as the tournament's Hometown: Mountaintop, Pennsylvania top scorer with five goals in six games. Lipski is the Head Coach • Providence College, 2002-present first player to earn a Junior National Camp invitation under Madl's tutelage. Assistant Coach • Univ. of Maine, 1993-2001 The 2009 season featured one of the most challenging schedules in the nation and the Head Coach USA/Canadian Challenge Cup (U-19), 2005 team finished the year with a 10-10 overall record (3-3 BIG EAST). Of the Friars 10 losses, Assistant Coach U.S. Olympic Development Select/ eight were decided by one goal, including five, one-goal losses to opponents ranked in the Futures Elite International Easter Tourn. (U-16), 2007 top-10 of the national poll. Providence made its fourth-straight appearance at the BIG EAST Futures Development Invitational Camp, 2004-2006 Field Hockey Championship, but fell to then-No. 5 Syracuse, 2-1, in the semifinals. The Friars Asst. Coach New England/Boston Senior HPTC, 2006-10 concluded the season ranked 23rd in the NCAA RPI and were ranked as high as No. 19 in the B-Camp, 2004 NFHCA National Coaches' Poll. Poulin earned All-America honors for the second-straight National Team Experience: season as a member of the NFHCA Second-Team, and became one of just four players in Olympic Games • Atlanta, Georgia - 1996 program history to earn All-America honors multiple times. Current Friar sophomore Nicole Champions Trophy - 1995 Fernandez became the second field hockey player from Providence to earn an invitation to Inter-Continental Cup - 1989 and 1995 U.S. Junior National Camp in the summer of 2010. World Cup - 1990 During Madl’s eight seasons on the sidelines, she has helped to mentor three players, World University Games - 1989 who earned All-America honors a total of four times. She also has helped to develop a toCollegiate Playing Experience: tal of 26 All-BIG EAST selections and 24 All-Northeast Region honorees. More importantly, University of Connecticut, 1985-1989 her teams have competed just as fiercely in the classroom. Madl has had the privilege of Honors & Awards: coaching 22 student-athletes who have earned NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad Two-time All-America selection, 1987-88 honors a total of 45 times, and 42 players who have been named to the BIG EAST Academic Honda Broderick Award winner, 1989 All-Star Team a total of 93 times. FIELD HOCKEY STAFF and earned the prestigious Honda Broderick Award upon the completion of her career, as the top collegiate field hockey player in the nation. Madl also earned Academic All-America honors and graduated magna cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1989. Madl went on to play for the U.S. National Team and competed in a multitude of events for Team USA, including the World University Games (1989), World Cup (1990), Inter-Continental Cup (1989 and 1995) and the Champions Trophy (1995). She reached the pinnacle of her playing career in 1996 as a member of the U.S. National Team that competed in the Olympic Games, held in Atlanta, Georgia. Madl still finds time to give back to U.S. Field Hockey. She remains active with Futures, having coached the U-19 team in the USA/Canadian Challenge Cup (2005) and assisted the U-16 team that participated in the U.S. Olympic Development Select/Futures Elite International Easter Tournament in the Netherlands (2007). Madl also has served as an assistant coach for USA Field Hockey High Performance Women’s National Championship New England Team (2006-2008), and assisted the team at the New England Training Center in 2009 prior to the Women's National Championship. In 2010, Madl continued her involvement with HPTC as an assistant for Boston's Senior Team under the new format for the Women's National Championship. Madl recently earned her U.S. Field Hockey Level III Coaching Accreditation in 2009, which is the highest coaching accreditation in the U.S. system. With the accreditation, Madl is eligible to work with the U.S. National Team programs. Madl’s coaching career began at the University of Maine as an assistant in 1993. She remained with the Black Bear program for nine seasons until departing for Providence College. In addition to her success at Providence College and her activity within the circles of U.S. Field Hockey, Madl served as the camp director for Providence College Field Hockey Day Camps in 2003 and 2004. Since then, she has taken ownership of Circle to Circle Field Hockey Camps, LLC., which came to fruition in 2005. During the summer of 2006, Madl added a Team Camp to her Circle to Circle summer circuit and has flourished, becoming one of the top camp organizations in the Northeast. Madl was inducted into the Luzerne County (Pa.) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005, and was inducted into the Pennsylvania State Athletic Hall of Fame on May 18, 2008. She is the daughter of Ruth Ann and David Madl.

Tina Cormier enters her ninth season with the Providence College field hockey program in 2009. She spent her first six seasons on the sidelines as an assistant coach, and in 2008 she was promoted to associate head coach. Cormier has helped Head Coach Diane Madl in a rebuilding process that has placed Providence in the national rankings during each of the last four seasons, and has helped the program qualify for four-consecutive BIG EAST Championship Tournaments (2006-2009), including two appearances in the championship game (2006-07). Cormier came to Providence with coaching experience at the collegiate, high school and youth levels. A native of Ste-Marie de Kent, New Brunswick (Canada), Cormier served as a part-time assistant field hockey coach at New Brunswick. Cormier also served as the assistant field hockey and assistant ice hockey coach at Sussex Regional High School. Additionally, she coached a 12-14 year old girls' field hockey team in Germany, and has been involved with numerous Provincial Field Hockey teams in New Brunswick. A 2001 graduate of New Brunswick, she has earned numerous accolades for her prowess on the field hockey field. In 2001, Cormier was honored as the University of New Brunswick’s Female Athlete of the Year. In 2000, she earned the Liz Hoffman Player of the Year Award (MVP) as part of the Canadian InterUniversity Athletic Union (C.I.A.U.). Cormier was selected as the Dr. Garnett Copeland Medal Winner as the top all-around athlete at UNB in 1999 for her performance in field hockey and ice hockey. She was a five-time C.I.A.U. FirstTeam All-Canadian selection and five-time A.U.A.A. Most Valuable Player. In 1996, Cormier was recognized as a C.I.A.U., A.U.A.A. and UNB Rookie of the Year. She also was a member of the Canadian National Squad. Cormier earned her Level II USA Field Hockey Coaching Accreditation in 2008, which is the second-highest accreditation available in the U.S. system. With that accreditation, Cormier is able to work with High Performance & Developmental programs in the United States. In 2010, Cormier was an assistant coach for Boston HPTC, which competed at the Women's Junior National Championship in Virginia Beach, Va. Cormier also is the Co-Director of Circle to Circle Field Hockey Camps, LLC., and has been involved with Futures over the last six years, and has served as a head coach in the program since 2004. Cormier also has served as the Regional Coaching Director for Futures (Reg. 3), and was a head coach of a U-16 Team at the National Futures Championship (2005, 2006). Cormier received a bachelor’s degree in education and kinesiology from the University of New Brunswick, and has worked as a physical education teacher in grade levels ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade.

Deb Hagie joins the staff for her sixth season as an assistant coach at Providence. In addition to her role working with the Friar goalkeepers, she also is heavily involved in the Friars' team-building and team-dynamic development. Hagie began working with the team during Providence’s spring, non-traditional season in 2005. Hagie, a Providence College graduate, was a stand-out goalkeeper for the Friars from 1989 to 1992. During her four-year career, she was a twotime All-Region selection in 1990 and 1991. She also was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the conclusion of the 1991 BIG EAST Conference Championship. That season, the Friars captured the BIG EAST title with a, 1-0, overtime victory against Connecticut. Hagie was credited with the shutout in goal, and remains the only Friar in program history to have earned Most Outstanding Performer honors at the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship. Hagie served as the head field hockey coach at South Kingstown High School (R.I.), where she led her squad to its first State Championship in 27 years. She also has served as an assistant coach at Yale, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

Kenneth White was appointed the College's head strength and conditioning coach on July 13, 2003 and is in the midst of his eighth year with the athletic department. White, who came to Providence from Stony Brook University, handles all the strength and conditioning requirements of the Friar's 19 varsity athletic teams. At Stony Brook, he was appointed as the first strength and conditioning coach in the program’s history. White was responsible for the design and implementation of training programs for all 20 of Stony Brook’s varsity sports. In addition to Stony Brook, White was the strength and conditioning coach at St. Bonaventure University from 1997-99 and served as a graduate assistant at Columbia University for two years. White received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in 1992 and later earned a master’s degree in 1999 from Columbia University. White is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). He also has a Club Coach/Olympic Weightlifting Certification from USA Weightlifting.

Michele Zielinski joined the Providence College Sports Medicine staff in the fall of 2009 and works with the men's lacrosse and field hockey programs. Previously, she worked at Manhattan College as a graduate assistant athletic trainer and was responsible for the women's soccer and men's lacrosse programs. Her duties with the Friars include the daily treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses as well as the education of student-athletes on basic health care. Prior to Manhattan, Zielinski held the student athletic trainer position at Marist College and worked closely with the women's basketball and football programs. Additionally, Zielinski has worked as a student athletic trainer at Vassar College, SUNY New Paltz, Spackenkill High School and Newburgh Free Academy. Zielinski also holds previous work experience with the New York Empire State Games and the Special Olympics. Zielinski earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training from Marist College in 2006 and a master's of education degree in general and special education from Manhattan College. She is an active member in the National Athletic Trainers Association and is a certified American Red Cross CPR/AED Professional Rescuer.

ALUMNI WEEKEND 2010 5th ANNUAL FIELD HOCKEY "FRIENDZY"
Friday, April 23, 2010 Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex On Friday, April 23, the Friars kicked off Alumni Weekend with a very successful 5th Annual Field Hockey "Friendzy". Each current member of the field hockey team was in charge of putting together a roster of 7-10 players from the College community; whether a student, coach, staff/faculty member or fellow student-athlete. With an entry fee of $10 per player, teams compete against one another in round-robin action and a "Friendzy" Champion is crowned. The "Friendzy" was developed with several purposes in mind. First, to help create a sense of camaraderie among all students, faculty, staff and student-athletes from a variety of Providence's 19 varsity athletic teams. It also has helped to familiarize participants with the sport of field hockey. Lastly, the tournament has become a staple in the program's many fund-raising efforts. The proceeds for this particular event are donated to a charitable cause of the program's choice each year. This season's "Friendzy" Champion was "Got Mulk?" - a team led by sophomore defender Ashley Mulkey (pictured). The "Friendzy" welcomed a total of 110 participants in 2010, including Providence College President, Father Brian J. Shanley. The event is held annually at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

Sunday, April 25, 2010 Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex The weekend culminated with the Alumni Game on Sunday, April 25 at the "Complex". The game features a match-up between the Alumni and the current members of the program. The Alumni, though winless in the series, were represented by 22 former players in 2010, in addition to a group of Alumni who joined the event on the sidelines. The score of this year's Alumni Game was 2-1, in favor of the current players. The afternoon concluded with a post-game lunch, provided by parents of the current team.

Saturday, April 24 set the stage for the 3rd Annual Field Hockey Golf Outing. The event was held at Cranston Country Club in Cranston, R.I. The inaugural event was held in 2008 and began with 80 participants and has steadily grown - with each of the last two outings boasting 100 golfers. It has quickly become the program's top fund-raising event - bringing in several thousand dollars to the program each year. All proceeds from the golf outing support the Friar Field Hockey program. This year, the program raised $8,000 through participation, raffle prizes, tee signs and a silent auction. The event is attended annually by former players, current and former families of field hockey players, friends of the program and members of the College community. In addition to golf, the outing features a tournament gift, lunch, awards and dinner. The post-golf awards and raffle are conducted by the coaching staff and current members of the field hockey team. The winners of the 2010 Field Hockey Golf Outing earned a free round of golf at Cranston Country Club and a commemorative plaque. The program also introduced the prestigious "Shankapotomus" Award this season, which acknowledges "the shot of the day" during the round. The "Shankapotomus" Award is decided on by current members of the team.

THIS IS PROVIDENCE COLLEGE Responding to the needs of Rhode Island, the Dominican Order of Preachers made a special commitment to the state in 1917 and founded Providence College — the only institution of higher learning in North America that is conducted by the Order. In 93 years, Providence College has steadily moved to a position of national prominence, while maintaining a personal, communitylike atmosphere that fosters growth and development among its student population. Providence College’s rich heritage dates back to 1216, or the origins of the Dominican Order in Spain. Through the ages, the Dominican Friars became known as the “champions of the faith,” spreading the gospel message through the centuries into every corner of the globe. Today, Dominican Friars continue to spread the gospel in a wide range of remote areas of the world, to teach at every level of the United States educational system. Students may choose from some 60 concentrations ranging from computer science to labor relations to theatre arts. athletic department mission The mission of the Providence College Intercollegiate Athletics program is to foster the personal development and education of young men and women through their participation in NCAA Division I athletics. Athletic contests provide an opportunity for the campus and the community at large to demonstrate their support of the College, its athletics program, and the student-athletes. The Athletic Department strives to fulfill student-athlete needs and goals in an environment steeped in the Dominican tradition in which honesty, integrity, mutual respect, effort and constant improvement are cherished and cultivated.
ATHLETIC FACILITIES The Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex is home to the Providence College field hockey and men's lacrosse teams. This $6-million state-of-the-art facility is one of the top athletic complexes to house field hockey in the Northeast. The Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex opened in August of 2005. Since Opened: August 2005 its opening, the Friars have catapulted into the national polls and have enjoyed some of their most successful seasons in program history. During each of the last four seasons, the "Complex" has proven to be a difficult venue for opposing teams, as the Friars have posted an impressive 24-13 (.648) record at home, including a 9-6 (.600) mark in BIG EAST Conference regular-season play (2006-09). Providence also hosted the 2009 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on November 7-8.

THE CONCANNON FITNESS CENTER RUANE ATRIUM Opened: August 2007
The Concannon Fitness Center is a $15-million facility, which opened in August of 2007. The Concannon Fitness Center is adjacent to the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. It houses the Friars' Jimmy Walker Strength & Conditioning Center as well as offices, conference rooms and locker rooms. The multi-level facility also houses a wide variety of nautilus, cardiovascular and free-weight equipment, which is open to the student body. Memberships also are available to the local community, alumni, faculty and staff. The varsity weight room is designed for use by student-athletes only, and is located on the first floor. The majority of the strength and conditioning curriculum is conducted in the facility - in addition to the Astroturf field, the Peterson Recreation Center and Taylor Natatorium.

Located in The Concannon Fitness Center, the varsity strength & conditioning facility is a 3,600 square foot area dedicated to the Friars' 19 intercollegiate athletic teams. The facility houses over 10 tons of free weights, including dumb bells ranging from five to 150 pounds and a full set of kettle bells. All hand weights, iron plates and bumper plate sets are engraved with one of the College's athletic logos. There are six Power Racks, each with an Olympic Weight-lifting platform. These training stations are extremely versatile and allow numerous athletes to perform a variety of exercises simultaneously. The facility also houses 'tools' such as stability balls, medicine balls, resistance bands, weighted vests, weighted jump ropes, plyometric jump boxes, dot drill mats, slide boards, lateral slant boards, lateral skaters, agility ladders, hurdles and numerous apparatuses to develop trunk strength and core stabilization. There also are two Woodway high performance treadmills that max out at 16.5 miles per hour.
The Canavan Sports Medicine Center opened during the 2007-08 academic year and became fully operational in August 2008. The center is the primary sports medicine facility for each of the College's 300+ student-athletes and its working space is roughly 4,000 square feet. This state-of-the-art facility includes nine treatment tables with assorted modality equipment and office space for the eight certified athletic trainers on staff. The space also provides two physician clinic offices, where primary care, orthopedic, chiropractic and podiatric physicians evaluate our student-athletes on a weekly basis. There also is a large rehabilitation/exercise area in the facility that houses a SwimEx rehab pool, one eight-person hot plunge pool and one eight-person cold plunge pool.
ATHLETIC FACILITIES On January 20, 2007, the Providence College athletic department welcomed members of the late Helen Bert's family to celebrate the opening of the HELEN BERT Helen Bert Student-Athlete Lounge, located on the second floor of Alumni STUDENT-ATHLETE LOUNGE Hall. Prior to the Friars' game against Marquette on that day, there was a ribOpened: January 2007; Completed: Winter 2009 bon cutting ceremony. Bert's family also was presented with a gift honoring the late Helen Bert during a halftime ceremony. The event was attended by friends, family, administrators and faculty, along with the presence of countless alumni. The Helen Bert Student-Athlete Lounge provides an area for all varsity student-athletes to study in a quiet setting. During the 2008-09 academic year, the lounge was renovated and expanded. It houses seven computer work stations, one print station and a seating area for group projects and meetings. The newly renovated lounge also provides office space for staff members from the Office of Academic Services.
PETERSON RECREATION CENTER
TAYLOR NATATORIUM
The Peterson Recreation Center is located adjacent to Alumni Hall and is connected to The Concannon Fitness Center. The facility includes a four-lane indoor track, four regulation length basketball courts and two indoor tennis courts. The Peterson Recreation Center also houses a dance/workout studio and racquetball courts. The facility serves as a home for many of the recreational activities sponsored by the College and to a series of summer camps and College functions.
Taylor Natatorium is located in the Peterson Recreation Center adjacent to Alumni Hall. Taylor Natatorium is home to the Providence College men's and women's swimming & diving programs. The vast majority of Providence's 19 varsity athletic programs also use the facility for strength & conditioning workouts.

The Concannon Fitness Center is adjacent to the $6 million Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex, which was completed in August 2005. The Fitness Center houses the Friars’ Jimmy Walker Strength and Conditioning Center as well as administrative and coaching offices, conference rooms and locker rooms. The construction project also provides the department with a state-of-the-art sports medicine complex and a new ticket office. The Canavan Sports Medicine Center, which was completed in August of 2008, is equipped with a hydrotherapy room, which includes a SwimEx rehab pool and two plunges for cold/hot therapy. Many of the College’s athletic improvements were made possible through Driscoll's fundraising efforts. In each of the eight years that Driscoll has led the Friars, the athletic department has exceeded its fundraising goals and has generated millions of dollars that have been utilized for student-athlete development and facility enhancements. Driscoll is currently a member of the NCAA Ice Hockey Championship Committee and will serve as the Committee Chair in 2010-11. He also represents the BIG EAST’s Athletic Directors on the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, serves on the BIG EAST Finance Committee and the HOCKEY EAST Television Negotiations Committee. He previously served on the NCAA Division I Management Council and was an NCAA Fellows Programs Executive Mentor. Driscoll joined the Providence community after 14½ years in athletic administration at the University of California, Berkeley. At Cal, Driscoll served as the Executive Associate Athletic Director and was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the department as well as overseeing football, men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s water polo, rugby, strength training, equipment and the sports medicine programs. Driscoll was hired at Cal as the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services, a position he held for five years. He then assumed the position of Executive Associate Athletic Director, at which point he was responsible for the administration of 27 varsity sports. During his tenure at Cal, he oversaw 25 club sports, a staff of 250 and a $36 million budget. Prior to coming to Providence, he served as the Acting Executive Director for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports. During his tenure, Cal won over 20 national championships, competed in the Citrus, Copper, Alamo and Aloha Bowls, NCAA Basketball Tournaments and the College World Series for baseball and softball. The Bears also finished as high as 12th in the NACDA Directors’ Cup. Before arriving at Cal, Driscoll served six years (1981-87) as the Athletic Director and Chair of the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Intramural Sports at Mills College in Oakland, Calif. Prior to arriving at Mills, Driscoll was Assistant Athletic Director and Head Baseball and Hockey Coach at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. from 1977-81. Driscoll was a stand-out hockey and baseball player at Ithaca College (N.Y.), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education in 1974. He earned his Master of Science in Physical Education/Psychology of Sports from Ithaca in 1975. A native of West Concord, Mass., Driscoll was inducted into the inaugural class of Concord-Carlisle High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame (football, ice hockey and baseball) in 1993. He is the proud father of three children: Tara, Kelly, and Sean, a graduate of Providence College. He and his wife Cathy reside in North Kingstown. 25 - 2010 PROVIDENCE COLLEGE FRIARS
ACADEMIC SERVICES Services Available To Student-Athletes Through Athletic Academic Services Academic Monitoring Progress report slips (i.e., requesting information regarding class attendance and performance) are sent to each instructor for all student-athletes at least once per semester. The staff tracks individual progress, schedules meetings with studentathletes as appropriate, and personally contacts instructors as necessary. Counseling/Mentoring The staff meets with student-athletes, individually and in-groups, regarding academic, athletic, career, and/or personal issues. Life Skills Program/Special Projects Programs and workshops on select life skills (i.e., NCAA/CHAMPS Life Skills Program) are presented, covering the following five component areas: academics, personal development, community service, athletics, and career development. The OAS has collaborative relationships with many units on campus to help provide these services. Pre-Registration The staff assists student-athletes with planning and course registration. In conjunction with the Office of Academic Records, dates are determined for preregistration each semester. Study Hall Quiet, monitored study time is available, during daytime and evening hours. Student-athletes are required and/or recommended to attend, on a sport-by-sport basis, by their respective head coach. Travel Notifications At the beginning of each semester, student-athletes are provided with letters for their instructors, notifying them of travel/competitive schedules. Tutorial Services and The Writing Center The Tutorial Center, which is nationally certified by the College Reading & Learning Association, provides peer tutoring in most all subject areas. The Tutorial Center is open until 9:00 pm weeknights. The Writing Center provides more intensive and specialized writing support and also maintains evening hours for student-athletes’ convenience.

Athletic Academic Services The Office of Academic Services (OAS) provides specialized support to student-athletes in light of the unique time demands, responsibilities, and rules governing participation in intercollegiate athletics. Holistic services are provided in a safe, personal environment where academic growth is a priority, personal development and independence are enhanced, and long-term success is nurtured by a staff which models these same commitments. Student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the classroom, as well as on the field or court, may be nominated for the BIG EAST Academic All-Star Team, the HOCKEY EAST Academic Honor Roll, America East All-Academic Team, NFHCA Division I Academic Team or ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Program presented by CoSIDA. The Providence College Athletic Department also honors student-athletes each semester who have achieved a 3.00 grade point average or higher.
Undergraduate Degree Requirements Providence College is primarily a coeducational four-year undergraduate college of liberal arts and sciences. Its main objective is the intellectual development of its students through the disciplines of the sciences and the humanities, equipping them to become productive and responsible citizens of a democratic society. To be eligible for a degree, a student must accumulate 116 credit hours over an eight semester period with an overall quality point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. In addition, a student must complete a minimum of 24 upper-division credits in the field of their major with an overall 2.0 cumulative average ALL-TIME FIELD HOCKEY unless stipulated. Included in the total credit hours are the following prerequisites ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA for any degree: Development of Western Civilization (20); Social Sciences (6); Natural SELECTIONS Science (6); Philosophy (6); Theology (6); Mathematics (3) and Fine Arts (3). The remaining credit hours are elective with at least nine coming from areas outside one’s major.
