Fine Clothiers

The Finest in Men’s Fashion M

arc Allen Fine Clothiers offers everything that the discerning man could want: exquisite bespoke tailoring, high-end lines like Loro Piana, distinguished colorful ties, and soon they will be launching a new made-to-measure line in fall 2013. Want to see their latest styles in stock? You’ll have to be patient, as Marc Allen is undergoing a complete renovation through August. Business owner Marc Streisand and chief of staff Jim Fortier are excited to show off the new space. “It’s our Wait ‘Til You See It renovation,” Jim says, laughing.

The new made-to-measure line coming this fall will deliver a lower price-point at a higher service. “This is perfect for the younger up-and-coming business man,” Jim explains. Marc Allen also carries some very comfortable loungewear made by Derek Rose, which is the company that produces robes and pajamas for the British Royal Family. Marc says, “The nice thing is you can go from the house to the grocery store, because it doesn’t look like traditional loungewear.” Significant others who are looking to get that special gift for their men, Marc Allen has exclusive

French cologne made by Histories de Parfums. The three scents showcased are 1725, 1828 and 1969, and Marc mentions that he is among a few places in the entire country carrying this line: “It’s a distinct and memorable fragrance.” Marc Allen also does premium in-home concierge service for men looking to update their entire wardrobes. Marc or Jim will come to your home and give your current clothing a look over and assist in cleaning out what is not working and keeping the items that do. The goal is to create a functional wardrobe base so when you look in your closet you are excited to see what you can wear. Stop into Marc Allen once the renovation is complete to let Marc and Jim expertly guide you toward that perfect look

Lights up on Fashion Welcome to another season of StyleWeek! There are so many exciting things happening in our seventh installation. We have seven new designers debuting at StyleWeek August. One of them is a Parson’s graduate; one has designed an entire collection for full-figured women (a SW first); three of them are from Boston (Gregory Paul showed with us at SW Boston in March to great response). I’m also proud of this season because we are introducing SEED for Accessory Design in partnership with Rhode Island College. The resulting accessories, all from RIC students and alumni, will be on display the entire week in the Accessory Showcase. We have such a wealth of talent this season, and I am really excited for the industry and community to see what these designers have in store for them. Remember, StyleWeek always shows within the industry standard, so you will be viewing the Spring 2014 collections. I can’t wait to experience this season with everyone and truly showcase what

tyleWeek’s foremost mission is promoting emerging designers. An important part of that is including students who are just getting their start in the fashion world. SEED, a student design runway competition, has been a part of StyleWeek January for the past two years. This season, that will extend past garments to accessory design for the first time. At this August’s runway event, StyleWeek will present SEED for Accessory Design. The competition, done in partnership with Rhode Island College, will showcase the jewelry and accessory designs of RIC students and alumni. The works will be on display in the Accessory Showcase for the entirety of StyleWeek August. A panel of industry professionals will judge the competition based on creativity, material manipulation and wearability. Another New England artist, Orny Beltrame of The Glass House, designed the cases that the works will be displayed in. Browse before or after the runway shows to decide which is your favorite work. For more information on the participating designers, visit styleweeknortheast.com/seed.html.

atching impeccably hand-sewn, original garments come down the runway, it’s easy to assume that that clothing is beyond the normal person’s reach. But that’s the beauty of StyleWeek: the emerging designers that it connects to audiences are accessible, affordable and easy to order custom clothing from. “The general public isn’t used to the idea of approaching a designer to create something custom from scratch,” says StyleWeek Creative Director Jonathan Joseph Peters. “The benefits of working with a designer one-on-one are an unlimited bank of ideas that can come from consultation with the designer, about anything from color to fabrication to price point, and of course silhouette and size.” There’s nothing quite like owning a designer original, especially when you can work with a designer to create it. The best part is how surprisingly affordable it is to work with StyleWeek’s emerging designers. “On the whole,” Jonathan contintues, “any customer can approach a designer and end up walking away with a custom, tailor-made garment that costs no more than you would pay at a department store.” In an attempt to connect their designs to the public, six StyleWeek designers are opening a design collaborative this fall in Providence’s renovated Arcade Building. Nude: Local Talent Exposed will house the designs of Kent Stetson, Jess Abernethy, Sarah Prost, Susan Troy, Amy Stetkiewicz and Jonathan Joseph Peters. “All of the designers will be offering off the rack clothing and custom garments,” Jonathan says. “Everyone involved makes all of their clothing by hand, so you’ll be able to buy designer handmade originals.” styleweeknortheast.com

n March, StyleWeek brought its first runway show to Boston. StyleWeek Boston, a three-day fashion event showcasing fashion designers from the Northeast took place at the W Boston. The event featured runway shows by PINI by Nick Pini, Chances R Designs by Toni Lyn Spaziano, Yellow Clover by Sarah Elizabeth, Millie Bautista, Gregory Paul, Marcel Plante, Luke Aaron, World of JAS by Joseph Aaron Segal and Jonathan Joseph Peters. StyleWeek Atelier, a pop-up shop open before the runway shows, offered runway looks, custom consultations and ready-to-wear designs from Jess Abernethy, Susan Troy and Kara Wickman. “In lieu of bringing Resort back to Miami this season, we decided that staying close to home and paying tribute to Boston was a perfect option,” says StyleWeek founder Rosanna Ortiz Sinel. “It was a wonderful experience to showcase our brand in the city that I moved to Providence from.”
