DISCOVER YOUR DEGREE The three or four years you spend pursuing a Bachelor’s degree will not only put you in touch with Providence community life, but also with professors who excel in their disciplines and teach from a Christian worldview. Our faculty are thought-leaders in their fields, and care about your spiritual development. Small class sizes mean you can connect with them more meaningfully.


BACHELOR OF ARTS (BA) A three or four year degree program that offers a broad general education where you can gain insight in a variety of areas within the Humanities & Social Sciences. A BA allows you to be flexible in your course selection while deepening your cultural understanding in addition to developing analytical, critical thinking, written and communication skills.

BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (BBA) A four year degree program specializing in business principles, this degree allows you to complete about half of the program in a specialized business concentration. The BBA is designed to give you broad business knowledge while also developing your practical, managerial and communication skills along with business decision-making capabilities.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (BSc) Our BSc is either a three or four year degree program with majors in General Biology and Health Science. The BSc is a foundational program grounded in scientific methods and practical skills through labs. You can take prerequisites for further study in medicine, education, kinesiology, nursing and pharmacy (etc).

BACHELOR OF THEOLOGY (BTh) A four year degree program specializing in theological disciplines, this degree may require you to complete course work in Greek or Hebrew as well as systematic theology, biblical theology, ethics, homiletics, hermeneutics and Christian ministry. The BTh is a degree perfectly suited for Christian ministry in a church or para-church setting.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

DEGREE OPTIONS

Attain the well-rounded education airlines are looking for, all the while integrating your Christian faith into your studies. Learn about flight theories, train at Harv’s Air in Steinbach, MB and fly multiple types of airplanes. Complete the required labs and certifications needed to become a commercial pilot or flight instructor.

FEATURED COURSES MULTI-ENGINE INSTRUMENT FLYING: Learn the theory and practice flying a multi-engine aircraft. Learn about aerodynamics, speeds, aircraft systems, performance and emergency procedures. Gain a multi-engine endorsement on your license upon successful completion. AEROBATICS: Learn how to fly an aerobatic aircraft and expand your skills significantly as a pilot. Gain skills in maneuvers like Chandelles, Lazy Eights and Barrel Rolls, and then try your hand at the more advanced tricks. ADVANCED NAVIGATION FLIGHT LAB: Fly across the United States, all the way to California, and learn both Canadian and American flight rules and regulations.

Discover new ways to approach and study the most important text of all time. Expand your intellectual horizon as a reader of both the Bible and the Christian theological tradition. Wander through the Bible’s language, history, message and meaning and its role in shaping the church, the world around you and all of Western culture.

FEATURED COURSES THE PENTATEUCH: Study the history, theology and literacy of the books Genesis through Deuteronomy. Discover the importance of these books in western European art and culture and the way in which the Pentateuch continues to shape the Church and the modern world. Analyze the Book through principles of interpretation for all forms of communication as well as discover the different literary genres in the Bible.

Education is an important facet of Christian ministry whether in the context of churches or parachurch outreach. The BTh with the Christian Education track provides students with resources to understand and implement strategies of pedagogy best suited to the differing needs of children, youth, and adult learners.

BTh 4 Year Major

FEATURED COURSES PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING: This course is a study and evaluation of the theories of learning as these find particular relevance to the task of educational ministries in the church and school. The learner will also demonstrate a proficiency in the application and evaluation of various principles and methods of instruction. EDUCATION IN MINISTRY: This course is a study of the major religious and secular developments in history and a comparison of those developments with biblical principles to develop an understanding of the church’s role in education. The learner will develop a philosophy of Christian education.

CHURCH ADMINISTRATION

Larger churches and parachurch organizations often have complex budgets, personnel issues, and other administrative needs that are beyond the skill-set of many with a traditional pastoral ministries education. This stream prepares students to help address such challenges.

BTh 4 Year Major

FEATURED COURSES BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS: The course is designed to give students a broad overview of communication as it relates to the business environment. Fundamentals of both written and oral communications form the foundation of this course. It is designed to develop techniques and practical methods for presenting ideas clearly and persuasively that will lead to sound decision making and effective teamwork. MANAGEMENT IN NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS: Topics covered include governance and leadership-team development, strategic planning in non-profits, the particular challenges of leadership, staff development and assessment in the non-profit sector, the legal issues particular to non-profit management, and adaptation of financial planning and reporting systems to non-profits.

The study of biology introduces students to the wonders and complexities of the natural and physical world. Students will learn and discuss topics and theories in lectures, then observe and experiment in the laboratory and in the field. This program is designed to equip students with scientific knowledge, methods, and critical thinking skills.

FEATURED COURSES HUMAN ANATOMY, HISTOLOGY, AND PHYSIOLOGY: This course incorporates discussions about how cells form tissues, how tissues form organs, and how these work to accomplish various functions. Students learn the mechanisms of the bodily systems: nervous, endocrine, musculoskeletal, integumentary, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, renal, immune and reproductive. IMMUNOLOGY: Explore cells and molecules involved in innate and adaptive immune responses.

This program will provide you with a foundation in the health sciences. You will take foundational courses in biology, chemistry, anatomy/physiology, microbiology, sociology, genetics, biochemistry and psychology. Taking courses in different health-related disciplines will help you find your passion, and then be able to pursue further studies to specialize in the discipline of your choice.

FEATURED COURSES GENETICS: What makes up the human genome and how are traits transferred from one to another? Learn about DNA replication and repair along with inheritance and sex-linked traits. CELL BIOLOGY: This course explores the dynamics of the plasma membrane, establishment of the cytoskeleton, components of the extracellular matrix, mechanisms of cell death and biology of the intracellular organelles.

FEATURED COURSES INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MISSIONS: Gain further knowledge on Christian missions and the history of international development. Compare two movements to better understand their connections, weaknesses and overall contributions to the world. This major is designed to provide students with basic academic and practical preparation for intercultural service and for further training in intercultural or international studies. One of the primary goals of the Buller School of Business is to equip students with entry-level knowledge, skills needed for effective service in administration and leadership functions in business and not-for-profit organizations.

FEATURED COURSES WORLDVIEW STUDIES: This course is an introductory systematic survey and critical assessment of major secular and religious philosophies/worldviews. GLOBAL ISSUES: This course is an examination of the nature and processes of contemporary social problems and change at both the societal and global levels. Special attention will be given to issues of economic, political, and cultural globalization and their effect on selected social problems such as technology, environment, war, crime, addictions, poverty and human trafficking.

The BTh prepares students for work in the church. For those wanting preparation for the pastorate without concern to specialize in youth, worship, education or administration, the pastoral ministry track is a good option.

FEATURED COURSES RETHINKING THE CHURCH FOR THE 21ST CENTURY: This course examines issues facing the contemporary church and its ongoing efforts to be relevant to the modern world. PASTORAL THEOLOGY: This course investigates the theological and biblical basis of the nature and function of pastoral ministry and examines the application of these principles in pastoral and other aspects of ministry in the church and other care-giving institutions.

Why do people think, feel, perceive and behave the way they do? Explore answers to these questions by studying behaviour and the human mind. Topics range from the basic nervous system to principles of perception, helping you gain an understanding of both social and clinical psychology.

FEATURED COURSES THEORIES OF PERSONALITY: Wonder why our human responses to situations in life are different from person to person? Learn about what really makes up the human personality and why each individual develops and adapts to life in different ways. Acquire the knowledge to understand people, culture and society in terms of the human condition in which they live and the human experience of life. Learn ways to articulate how individuals, groups and societies materialize, behave and alter all the time through the study of the social sciences. Examine age, class, ethnicity, family, education, work and social change while investigating how various groups are put together, what their purposes are and how they work.

FEATURED COURSES MARRIAGE AND FAMILY: Examine the current status of social institutions like marriage and family through a historical and cultural context. Learn more about Canadian marriages & families, specifically, and their dynamics, interactions and functions. CONSUMER CULTURE AND SIMPLER LIVING: Learn firstly about the ethos ‘conspicuous consumption’. Then examine the theory and practice of voluntary simplicity and the idea of ‘living well’. Learn more about creating a sustainable environment and social justice.
