The Setting of Your Dreams Take some time to plan your floral decorations – it could be pinecones and twigs collected from the park mixed with ivy. You can go formal with a tablecloth or use a runner and napkins. A runner over a tablecloth makes a beautiful base for flowers and candles. Put the candles in a mixture of candlesticks at different heights for maximum impact.

Provincial Home Living are lucky enough to travel to gorgeous homes and stunning locations across Victoria to create inspirational images for customers. Recently, we visited the vibrant rural hamlet of Taradale, located an hour from Melbourne. Nestled in a picturesque valley of verdant farmland and surrounded by native forests, this idyllic town has a significant historic legacy dating back to the Gold Rush. Surrounded by two acres of romantic gardens and featuring spectacular views over the Taradale countryside, is the beautiful Gothic Church and Sunday School Hall that became the backdrop for our most recent photoshoot. The charming hall, constructed in 1856, features beautiful weathered panelling, casement windows, and exposed cross beams. While the Church, designed by Thomas Turner and constructed in 1859, boasts grand timber ceilings, detailed stained-glass windows, a carved wooden pulpit, and a choir-loft.
TIMELINE OF CHURCHILL • 1851 Gold is discovered in central Victoria prompting the start of the Gold Rush. • 1856 A whitewashed timber hall is constructed – Holy Trinity Anglican Church. • 1859 An impressive Gothic Church is constructed to replace the timber hall. The original hall becomes the location for Sunday School. • 1861 The Taradale Viaduct is completed becoming the largest rail bridge in Australia at the time. • 1997 The Church is added to the Victorian Heritage Register. • 2014 The Team from Prunella transformed the property into Churchill Weddings + Events. • 2021 Provincial Home Living’s Winter photoshoot is shot at Churchill.
In 2014 the creative duo behind Prunella, Caris Haughan and Vanessa Partridge, jumped at the opportunity to transform the property into a remarkable event space. Expertly blending European rural charm with luxe interior details, Churchill Weddings + Events was brought to life. Caris and Vanessa host amazing weddings and receptions at Churchill, making the most of the location, seasonal flowers, and local produce. The blend of impressive European architecture and the stunning rural Victorian landscape is a marriage made in heaven. Throughout this catalogue, you will see how Provincial furniture looks just as beautiful against the backdrop of stained glass and distressed stone in the Church, as it does in the hall with its aged white weatherboards. 17.
Prunella The creative duo behind Prunella, Caris Haughan and Vanessa Partridge have sparked a new light and joy into the small country town of Kyneton. Provincial Home Living just had to find out what inspired them to create Prunella Weddings + Events. What initially attracted you to the Church and what was your vision for it as an event space? We thought the Church was a really beautiful, authentic space and we felt like we’d been transported to a church in Europe with the patina and character of the building and surrounding European deciduous trees, but then the unmistakable Australian Eucalyptus trees in the landscape beyond. We love to host beautiful, seamless weddings and events at the property and take care of all the details for our clients. How would you describe Prunella’s signature style? European, wild, romantic, lush, classic. What foliage/flowers would be included in your perfect floral design? We love to use what’s in season - in Spring the vibrant green of the new foliage, the crisp whites and delicate pastels of sweet peas, viburnum, dogwood, lily of the valley, delphinium. Moving into Summer the blousy beauty and scent of garden roses is magical. In Autumn the antiquing hydrangea, giant dahlias, tiny chocolate cosmos and the dramatic rich palette of colours from burgundy to reds, oranges and yellows. In Winter camellia and rhododendron, tulips, hellebores, cymbidium orchids and anemones. 18.

Gnocchi with Short Rib Ragù This Winter warmer doesn’t take much preparation, but to get the intensity of flavour and meat so tender it falls off the bone, cook it low and slow for 4-6 hours. For the best results, marinate ribs overnight before cooking. I NGR ED I EN TS
M ETHOD
• 4 beef short ribs (about 400gm each) • 500ml red wine • 2 tbsp olive oil • 2 onions, finely chopped • 4 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped • 1 carrot, coarsely chopped • 1 celery stalk, coarsely chopped • 2 tbsp tomato paste • 2 liters (8 cups) beef stock • 800 gm canned whole tomatoes • 4 rosemary sprigs • 1 fresh bay leaf
1. Place beef ribs in a single layer in a non-reactive container that fits ribs snugly, add wine, cover and refrigerate overnight.
To Serve • Gnocchi, pasta or polenta • Finely grated pecorino pepato
2. Preheat oven to 150°C. 3. Heat oil in a casserole over medium heat, remove ribs from wine (reserve 250ml), pat dry on absorbent paper and cook, turning occasionally, until golden (5-7 minutes). 4. Remove ribs and set aside, reduce heat to low, add vegetables and tomato paste and stir occasionally until tender (12-15 minutes). 5. Add reserved red wine and cook until reduced by half (5-7 minutes), scraping residue as you go, then add half the stock one cup at a time, reducing completely after each addition (10-12 minutes). 6. Add tomato, rosemary, bay leaf, remaining stock and ribs, cover and roast in the oven, turning ribs occasionally, until meat is falling from the bone (4-6 hours). 7. Coarsely shred meat with a fork (discard bones, bay leaf and rosemary stalks), season to taste and serve tossed with gnocchi and scattered with pecorino pepato.
“Use any good quality bought gnocchi, serve it with homemade pasta, or on a bed of soft polenta.”

Panna Cotta with Baked Rhubarb This delectable Winter dessert is sure to impress your guests. Finish your meal with a lightas-air Panna Cotta served with a delicious baked rhubarb with orange and cardamon. Make it ahead of time, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the company of your guests. I NGR ED I EN TS
METHOD
• 500ml thickened cream • 150ml whole milk • 180g caster sugar • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste • 2 1/2 leaves gold leaf gelatine
1. Place the cream, milk, sugar, and vanilla bean paste in a large pan. Stir over a low-medium heat and slowly bring to the boil. When the mixture just reaches the boil, remove from the heat immediately.
Baked Rhubarb • 1 bunch rhubarb, washed, trimmed of tough strands and cut into chunks on the diagonal • 220 gm (3/4 cup) caster sugar • Thinly peeled rind and juice of 1/2 orange • 3 cracked cardamom pods
2. Meanwhile, place the gelatine leaves in a shallow dish, and then cover in cold water to soften for 5 minutes. Remove the gelatine from the water and squeeze out any excess water. Whisk the gelatine into to the cream mixture until dissolved. 3. Allow the mixture to cool slightly and then strain through a sieve into a jug. Pour into six Lola Goblets or Lola Dessert Glasses, and then transfer into the refrigerator for 5 hours or until set. The Panna Cottas should still have a slight wobble to them once set. 4. Whilst the Panna Cottas are setting in the fridge, preheat oven to 220°C. 5. Arrange rhubarb snugly in a baking dish, scatter sugar and orange peel over, drizzle with juice and add cardamom. Cover with foil and roast until rhubarb is just tender, but not falling apart (20-25 minutes). 6. Set aside and when cooled refrigerate till ready to serve. 7. Remove the Panna Cottas and Baked Rhubrb from the fridge when ready for dessert. Pop a little Baked Rhubarb on top of each Panna Cotta and serve the rest in a bowl for people to add a little or a lot.
“If you have any rhubarb left over, serve it the next day with one cup of yoghurt, one tsp of vanilla bean paste and 1/2 tsp of ground cinnamon.”

The Winter Bedroom 1. Embrace Texture A simple update of bed linen, a quilt cover or coverlet can completely transform your bedroom. A coverlet is the perfect addition for an important extra layer of warmth and it also adds colour and texture. Tactile fabrics like velvet, quilted textures and dark and moody hues will create a room you won’t want to leave. 2. Get Moody with Lighting Alexander Bed Save
$250
Switch to ambient lighting. Bedside lamps cast a lovely warm glow and help create an inviting and comforting haven. Try a floor lamp near a reading chair if you have room in the bedroom – it’s a great place to escape. 3. Create Layers Layer upon layer is the key. Use a blend of different textures, fabrics and colours in a combination of cushions, accent pillows, shams and throws. You can’t have too many layers in Winter.

Colours of the Season What two better colours to introduce into your home this Winter than Saffron and Indigo? Saffron, the name itself sounds decadent, exotic, and alluring and the hue is warm and welcoming. Indigo is counted as one of the traditional colours of the rainbow – and is there anything more “feel good” than a rainbow? These two hues work perfectly alone but together bring a sense of harmony and joy into your home – and isn’t that what we are all looking for?
