CHOOSING YOUR DATE
2019
1.
Are there dates that are significant to you and your partner? Or even to your family? This could include the day you both met, the date you began dating, the first time you kissed, you parents anniversary?
2.
If you’re not too fussed on a date, then maybe you’re more inclined to favour a season or a month. When is your favourite time of the year? If you’re conscious of budget then off season times might be worth considering.
3.
Would you prefer a weekend? Or a Friday? Or any other weekday? Being flexible about the day could save you a lot but do keep in mind the time off work required for your guests if you choose a week day.
4.
Credit: ADRIAN VAUGHAN - NOISEBOX PRODUCTIONS
Are you an inside or outside person? It’s pretty obvious that an outside wedding comes with many more risk factors so be sure to consider this when choose your special day.
5.
If you’re having trouble deciding, why not plan your wedding date around your honeymoon. If you’re honeymooning somewhere that has wet and dry seasons then you may be limited to times of the year you can travel, this could help narrow down the dates for your wedding day.

INTERMEZZO CAFE Intermezzo Cafe is soon to celebrate its third birthday under the ownership of Dameon Holmes, with the cafe going from strength to strength since changing hands in August 2016. Currently it employs 20+ staff in conjunction with Stealth Catering, the offsite catering company also operated by Dameon. Employees range from staff with 40+ years’ experience in the industry to a School Based Apprentice Chef who works each Wednesday. Dameon prides himself on delivering a high level of service to his customers, and employs staff who fit with this passion. Learning his craft as a chef in Germany as a 1st year apprentice in 2008 really grew Dameon’s passion for
food and delivery of high quality service to each customer where possible. After travelling for a year and working as a chef in Germany, Dameon returned to take up a roll as an apprentice chef at Martini’s in Wangaratta before moving to Geelong to finish his Apprenticeship with the EMC Group. Once his chef apprenticeship was completed Dameon took on a role as Head Chef of Little Country Pub in Longwood just off the Hume Highway between Euroa and Avenel, before deciding to return to Wangaratta where he completed year 12, after seven years. Dameon has stepped away from the full-time chef role to concentrate on the running and managing of both the cafe and catering company, you may still
spot him on the tools in the kitchen on the odd occasion. Intermezzo also caters for weddings, special occasions, functions, events and conferencing. Local suppliers are a must for Dameon and the team at Intermezzo source local when and where they can, from local butcher “Your Everyday Gourmet” and free-range egg suppliers “Sprockets”. Local wines are also on the list along with Malt Shed Beer and Alpine Cider. Stealth Catering and Intermezzo also pride themselves on supporting local music talent, having live music on the Deck in the warmer months.

NOISEBOX PRODUCTIONS Wangaratta based business Noisebox Productions really has the edge when it comes to producing unique and professional wedding photos and videos. The business is run by Adrian Vaughan, who has been involved in the broadcast television industry for almost 35 years and incorporated photography under the Noisebox umbrella in 1995. It’s these years of experience that have left him well versed in the visual arts to be able to create truly individual images for you. Adrian’s expertise is such that he has photographed weddings and other special occasions locally, nationally and internationally. Adrian said that his approach to
wedding photography was tailored to suit each individual couple. “Meeting with the couple is essential, as a good chat helps me figure out their personalities, and of course what kind of images they are after, which makes shooting on the day much easier for everybody. We shoot candid journalistic images that capture the emotion and fun of the moment, to more artistic and dramatic shots. But the key is to make it fun for all involved,” he said. Producing videos and broadcast television programs means that clients receive truly watchable and professional wedding videos that people will actually want to watch, with a “less is more” approach to the editing process.
“In my experience, a bride will happily watch a five hour wedding video; their friends and family however, feel quite differently,” Adrian said. So, I generally cut a sharp, pacey, emotive and memorable 20-30 minute program that keeps everybody happy.” When it comes to choosing a video operator, this is where the experience and equipment shines through. More information on Noisebox Productions, including wedding images that Adrian has shot over the years, can be found on the company’s website at www.noiseboxproductions.com.au.

MAKING MEMORIES WITH PHOTO BOOTH
DIY photo booths are a fun and creative way to get some super candid snaps from your day! They not only create priceless memories, they also eliminate the cost of an onsite photographer as your guests get a little more excitable later in the evening. We’ve developed some tips on how to create your own photo booth that won’t break the budget.
PICK A BACKDROP
USE SOCIAL MEDIA
This could be as simple as hanging an old white sheet between two trees and pinning some beautiful flowers to it, or finding a blank wall at your venue and sprucing it up with your props, full flower or green walls also make beautiful back drops and this could be a great DIY project for you and your partner pre wedding!
If you choose to set up your own camera and tripod, be sure to upload your photos to a social media account or private group so your guests can share the memories again too. Alternatively, if your guests are using their own phones, be sure to set up a hashtag for them to use so you can see the photos later.
MARK WHERE TO STAND
PROPS
To save the half cut off photos of your beloved aunt and uncle, place a marker on the floor so your guests know where to stand. You could use chalk or tape to do this and it will for sure save you from deleting hundreds of not so great images the next day.
Depending on the types of photos you want out of your photo booth, props can be a great way to add a little fun. Simply supplying hats, chalk board signs, scarves and glasses will allow your guests to have a little fun with their photos. You could even go a little bit extra and have cardboard cut outs of the Bride & Groom for your guests to pose with.

UNPLUGGED WEDDINGS You may be familiar with the word ‘Unplugged’ being used more and more at weddings. A Bride & Groom will ask their guests to be unplugged to limit the use of phones during the ceremony and also to allow them to share photos with their social media platforms before guests do. If you think about it, would you prefer your guests hugging you and giving you well wishes on your special day, or take blurry photos on not so flattering angles? When it comes to getting your unplugged request across to your guests there are plenty of options. The simplest way is to have your celebrant announce it before the ceremony kicks off. Here’s a simple message he/she can deliver to your guests: “Ladies and Gentleman, before we begin the ceremony the Bride & Groom have asked that everyone please put down your phones and cameras during the ceremony and be present in the moment with them. The photographer will capture the day through his/her lens so you can all be present in the moment today”. Depending on your invitation design, you may also wish to add a quick note letting your guests know you will be enjoying an unplugged wedding.

GROOM ATTIRE In the past the groom’s role was to wear something smart enough to get married in without upstaging the bride. Groom attire tended to be very formal and there wasn’t much room for personalisation. Things have changed, however, and many grooms now spend as long looking for their outfits as their partners! The etiquette behind groom attire has become more relaxed, and statement suits or accessories are becoming the norm. Here are some of the latest trends in groom attire:
STATEMENT TIES
Many grooms are choosing to personalise their outfit with a striking statement tie. Bold stripes, paisley patterns, and polka dots are all great designs, and as long as the colours co-ordinate with the boutonniere and don’t clash with the bridesmaids’ dresses, anything goes.
SIMPLE ELEGANCE
Although double cuff shirts still add an element of formality to a wedding outfit, other fussy embellishments such as pleats, frills are being pushed aside. White shirts are the most popular choice with colour being added in the tie, waistcoat or boutonniere.
CONTEMPORARY TUXEDOS
A tuxedo is still a popular wedding suit for the groom, especially for an evening wedding, but it has been given a modern face lift. Notched lapels tend to be more popular than shawl or winged styles, brightly coloured or patterned waistcoats are replacing cummerbunds.
EXTENDED WEDDING PARTY
Often the best man and groomsmen to wear the same outfit as the groom, or at least something similar, and the fathers of the couple are sometimes included as well. It is now becoming fashionable for grooms to ask their grandfathers if they would also like to wear a wedding outfit as well.
IVORY TIES
Traditionally the groom and groomsmen would wear ties in the same colour as the bridesmaids’ dresses, but this is changing as many grooms decide to coordinate with the bride and wear an ivory tie.
CASUAL GROOM ATTIRE
INDIVIDUAL BOUTONNIERES
Casual wedding outfits are becoming more common, and many grooms and their groomsmen are simply wearing khaki trousers and matching blazers. Grooms often want to wear something to their wedding that they wouldn’t wear to the office, so striped, checked, tartan or textured blazers are all very fashionable.
Having a different boutonniere from his groomsmen has often been one way for the groom to distinguish himself as the star of the show. However, it is now becoming popular for each male member of the wedding party to have a distinct boutonniere to add character to their outfits.

WEDDING TRADITIONS There are so many factors included in weddings today that have historic meaning that we don’t often think about when making the decision to include them. The Brides veil, the garter toss, a white gown and the wedding bouquet are among the most common traditions and you probably wouldn’t even think twice about including some or all of these in your wedding. Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue. We’ve all heard this rhyme thrown around when the wedding topic pops up, but do you know what each of these items traditionally represents? Something old is said to
represent the history and past of the Bride’s family and is often reflected in jewellery or something that forms part of the Brides attire on the day. Something new signifies the future for the Bride and her Groom and is believed to promote good fortune. The wedding gown or a piece of jewellery is often selected to fulfil this part of the tradition. Something borrowed is usually a symbolic item to ‘borrow’ happiness, this item is often provided by friends or family. Last but not least, something blue. The Something Blue aspect represents love and purity and is often incorporated in the Brides outfit or Garter.

BE REAL ABOUT BUDGETING
Credit: BLISSFUL LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY
Be honest about your budget and make sure your planner and venue are across this. Wedding Cakes can be super expensive so do your research and find alternatives, your planner should be able to help with this to. Substitute the expensive stuff like lace or icing flowers for real flowers and simple icing techniques. Sub out the crystal glassware for basic glasses and crockery. Make Google and Pinterest your best friends here, they’re jam packed with ideas to spark your savvy flare.
