In an independent practice, you’ll have the opportunity to work with patients who have more complex eye conditions. This valuable exposure can help to advance your diagnostic and treatment skills. You’ll also be able to work closely with patients to develop treatment plans that meet their unique needs and help them achieve optimal vision.

Explore unique areas of clinical interest, such as orthokeratology, dry eye, myopia management and more. Provide Quality Community Care

Independent optometrists often attract a more diverse patient base because they have the flexibility to provide highly personalised care. Take the skills learnt at university and employ them to diagnose and treat a broad range of eye conditions, including complex cases that you may not encounter as frequently in other retail settings. In independent optometry, you’ll never stop learning and developing.

Enjoy more flexibility when it comes to your scope of practice. At an independent practice, you’ll have the opportunity to employ a wider range of therapeutics, develop strong relationships within the community and have a greater impact on your patients’ overall health.

One of the biggest benefits of working for an independent practice is the on-the-job mentoring you’ll receive from seasoned professionals. As a recent graduate, you’ll get support and encouragement as you build your skills and grow in confidence.
