Benefits bolster business
Frenchie’s Pressure Washing and Yardwork adds to service options E nt er i ng it s t h i r d y e a r of business, Frenchie’s Pressure Washing and Yardwork has enhanced services offered to residential and business owners in the Powell River area. Owner/operators Sarah Wilson and Guy Pouliot are ready for the busy gardening and springcleaning season. They are excited about the company’s new additions: equipment for dethatching and aerating; a one-ton flat-deck truck for hauling away yard waste or bringing in materials such as mulch or soil (up to five yards); and a new, heavy-duty van with a fresh new look. Due to water restrictions within City of Powell River and dry weather during warmer months, especially for homes serviced by wells in rural areas, it is advantageous to clients that Frenchie’s can bring its own supply of water to job sites. “The new van carries 1,500 litres of water capacity,” says Guy. “Water use has been a concern lately, and pressure washing uses a lot less than regular hoses or brushes.” As a further benefit, Frenchie’s offers hot and cold options for pressure washing surfaces such as house siding, driveways, sidewalks and decks. “The hot water really helps to remove stains and gum and especially from concrete surfaces due to oil from cars,” says Sarah. “It makes a big difference, it’s like trying to clean dirty dishes with cold water; it just doesn’t work.” When assessing a client’s request, Guy determines whether hot or cold water is required, the
proper tips or wand to use, and if cleaners are necessary to complete the task in the most efficient manner. To avoid possible damage to surfaces such as wood and streaks on concrete, the business partners recommend using a professional rather than taking a do-it-yourself approach to pressure washing. “Sometimes when people try to pressure wash themselves, they end up with a bunch of tiger stripes on their sidewalks, so it doesn’t look even,” explains Guy. “We have a Whirl-A-Way surface cleaner, which has a huge effect; it makes things look brand new and doesn’t cause any damage.”
Time is also a factor to consider. Some do-it-yourself tasks can take up to six hours for an individual to complete. In most cases, Frenchie’s can achieve better results for the same job in a third of the time. “It is a good investment that will improve the value of your property,” says Sarah. Other areas and items that benefit from pressure washing include gutters and all types of vehicles and boats, and it is excellent for paint preparation. Guy also recommends demossing roofs to prevent damage. He uses a very low pressure soft wash that kills moss and its roots. While Guy focuses mainly on the pressure washing, Sarah is

busy with the yard-work aspect of the business, including the new dethatching and aerating services now being offered. Aerating allows for better lawn drainage and enables oxygen, water and nutrients to penetrate through to grass roots easier. Dethatching removes the thick organic buildup of dead roots, leaves and stems between the turf and soil. “You remove the buildup and it improves overall lawn health,” says Sarah. “The dethatcher can also be used to remove moss.” Soil or compost can then be added, followed by a lime application and grass reseeding. “We can also provide clients with good care tips and preventa-

tive measures to keep their lawns healthy,” adds Sarah. Frenchie’s has liability insurance, WCB coverage and always provides seniors with a 10 per cent discount. After two years in business, Sarah and Guy are appreciative of how they have been received by their clients. “Last year went really well for us,” says Sarah. “We want to thank everyone for the local support and look forward to another great year.” For a free estimate or more information, call 604.414.7381, email frenchiespressurewash@ gmail.com, or go to facebook. com/f rench iepw yd a nd frenchiespressurewash.ca.
