Buffet and free airfare add excitement Royal Zayka Restaurant and Bar highlights Indian cuisine and culture Royal Zayka’s new buffet provides diners with a great option for sampling diverse recipes from northern India. From 5-8:30 pm Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights, the buffet features 24 items, including chicken, beef, fish and vegetarian dishes as well as papadum, rice, pakoras, basmati pulao, naan, salads, fruits and desserts. “The buffet changes all the time,” explains owner Mahesh Kuniyal. “It is not the same every day; you always get a variety.” Spice levels are kept mild for most dishes and each item is labeled accordingly. “We keep one dish hot, like a spicy chicken curry,” says Mahesh, “and there is spicy
hot sauce at the buffet for people to add if they wish.” Customers looking to experience Indian cuisine and culture will find more than just a vast array of tastebud-tantalizing dishes to satisfy their cravings at the restaurant. To top off an extraordinary culinary experience, one lucky diner will win return airfare for one person from Vancouver to Delhi. Entries are now being accepted from dine-in customers; the draw will be held December 23. “It will be an early Christmas present for someone,” says Mahesh. “It should be quite exciting.” Entering the new contest is simple, not to
mention delicious. Forms are available at facebook.com/royalzayka and in the Peak Weekender (page three). Healthy appetites and dining at Royal Zayka, 6275 Marine Avenue in Townsite, are the only entry requirements. Regular dinner hours are 4:30-9:30 pm, seven days per week; lunch hours are 11 am-2:30 pm Monday to Friday, and noon to 2:30 pm Saturday and Sunday. Two regular menus are available: one specifically for lunch specials and a regular dinner menu. Lunch specials include meat, vegetarian or lentil options; each comes with rice, salad and naan for $9.95.

For lunch or dinner takeout orders, which Mahesh says are, “available all the time,” or to book reservations, private parties and catering services, call 604.414.0143. Chef’s dinner specials are also new and include vegetarian or non-vegetarian curries, rice, naan, salad, raita and rice pudding; price is $49.95 for two or more people. “You can choose the curry or let one of our chefs make the decision,” says Mahesh. Royal Zayka’s outdoor patio is now open for customers to enjoy at all times. “When it’s hot, people want to sit outside,” says Mahesh. “They can enjoy their meals with a nice view.” A full menu is available at royalzayka.ca.

Oele says he volunteered for the project “because it’s something to be done for the community.” Along with performances in staged readings of the script, students will use song, dance, drumming and dramatic re-enactments in a presentation of Paul’s teachings; some material will be performed in traditional Tla’amin language.
Paul will also play her role and be present on stage throughout. All proceeds go to the school district’s first nations students scholarship fund.

Students from classes taug ht by f i rst nat ions teacher Karina Harry will perform along with about 100 others. “I told them it’s a great honour, privilege and a legacy that they’re going to leave behind,” says Karina. “I’m very proud of them.” Karina says the play is a reflection of what it was like for Paul growing up in a very traditional lifestyle and her experience in residential schools. Marie Anne Coburn
1964 - 2009
(née Cecchetto)
April 27, 1942 - June 5, 2016 Marie passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis and a sudden pulmonary embolism. She was surrounded by her family and friends in the days preceding her passing.
Marie is survived by Corky, her loving husband of almost 55 years, daughters Gaynor (Richard) Demchuk and Terri (Fred) Formosa and her five grandchildren Michael, Kyle, Carly, Brianne and Scott, who meant the world to her. She will also be missed by her extended family and her many, many friends, most especially her Friday tea ladies.
A special thank-you to her nurses at Powell River General Hospital, Rachel, Karen and her “boys” for their wonderful care, and Dr. Chao and Dr. Delport. Mom so enjoyed her work at Powell River Health-Care Auxiliary and, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to either the auxiliary or BC Lung Association. No service by request.
Jesse Dean Blaikie-Nadalini January 27, 1989 - June 18, 2011
If we could have one lifetime wish One dream that would come true We’d pray to God with all our hearts For yesterday and you. Always in our thoughts, forever in our hearts. Dad, Grandma, Nonno, Uncle Dennis, Auntie Diane, Uncle Frank, Sean, Maria you
To those who donate to the Bruce Denniston Bone Marrow Society in honour or memory of a loved one, we thank you. Thanks also to those who are including the Society in their estate planning. Tax receipts are issued for all donations of $20 or more. Your generosity is being used for legacy projects such as upgrades to the oncology room at Powell River General Hospital. www.brucedennistonsociety.org P.O. Box #157, Powell River, BC, V8A 4Z6

“Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends up defeating itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers.” ~ Martin Luther King If Tears Could Build A Stairway If tears could build a stairway And memories a lane I would walk right up to Heaven And bring you back again No farewell words were spoken No time to say “Goodbye” You were gone before I knew it And only God knows why My heart still aches with sadness And secret tears still flow What it meant to love you No one can ever know But now I know you want me To mourn for you no more To remember all the happy times Life still has much in store Since you’ll never be forgotten I pledge to you today A hallowed place within my heart Is where you’ll always stay
