Mother Nature owner Ron Pfister has seen ebbs and flows in interest around home gardening in his 25 years in the business, but this time he says it is here to stay. “People here are very aware of what’s in their products and very conscious of what they want to grow,” says Ron. “They want to have control of their own food, and we can grow so much in Powell River.” Due to increased interest in food production, Ron and his staff follow the motto of “growing with the community” by helping them with their gardening projects, no matter how big or small. “Our goal is to show people how simple it is,” says Ron. “You don’t have to grow a giant garden if you don’t want to. Just start off with a couple of containers and see how it goes.” Store manager Heather Claxton says in her 14 years with the locally owned and operated company she has seen it grow tremendously and she is constantly working to provide customers with innovative products. “It’s not just that Mother Nature has changed, but so have the people of Powell River; the way they are living and spending their spare time,” says Heather. “They are trying to be healthier overall and that has made us adapt to serve our customers.” The nursery has brought in more edibles, such as unique berry and citrus trees, and the store has expanded its pet, giftware and home decor sections, says Heather. “We want to be the home and garden store where you can come and find cool, unique products,” she says. “Specialty items are our specialty.” Ron says his staff supports customers, not only by giving knowledgeable advice on subjects such as gardening and pet care, but also by helping them find the right products. “We’ve built a reputation of having knowledgeable and helpful staff, and we continually strive to improve upon that everyday,” says Ron. With the increased interest in home gardening, Ron and Heather say that residents are more aware of their own food production. Mother Nature has highlighted Microgreens products and displays have been set up in the store to show how easy they are to grow at home. “Mother Nature is always growing,” says Heather, “and it wants to grow with you.” Mother Nature is located at 7050 Duncan Street. Store hours are Monday to Saturday, 9:30 am-5:30 pm and Sunday, 11 am-4 pm. aisles while Spencer leads the way; at times he employs acrobatics that would make CCR vocalist/guitarist John Fogerty blush. “If you’re expecting a perfect facsimile of a 1970s CCR concert, prepare to be pleasantly disappointed,” says CCR fan Chris Baikie, who
now counts himself among Completely Creedence’s growing fan base. “These boys have been together too long and are too good of showpeople to just stand at the microphone and play. They pour a ton of energy into their show.” With the exception of Milutinovic, who could be original CCR bassist Stu Cook’s doppelganger, the members of Completely Creedence are not cookiecutter copies of the original band. Robertson and Spencer love to engage an audience, their opposing personalities often leading to
entertaining banter that momentarily breaks the time-warping spell cast during the show. Luckily, Campbell is quick to send the audience back to the ’70s with his impeccable timing and gritty, textured beats. Before long, the spell i s r e c a s t . Rob er t s on’s chilling performance of “Someday Never Comes,” for example, transcends the vocal range of Fogerty. Robertson will summon the living legend to resonate through Evergreen Theatre when Completely Creedence brings its highoctane throwback to town.

A bad moon will be rising over Evergreen Theatre next Saturday, April 16, when Completely Creedence, a Vancouver Island Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) tribute band, returns to rock Powell River with its spirited renditions of the music that has backdropped counterculture revolution since 1969. “T he f a c t t h at C C R achieved worldwide fame in just three short years, w h i le ne v er h av i ng a number-on hit in the US, is testament to the band’s working class populism,” says Completely Creedence singer Jamie Robertson. “The music is raw, high energy and just gets inside of you. I like to think we bring that same energy and emotion to our shows.” Robertson, along with guitarist Richard Spencer, bassist George Milutinovic and drum mer Rod Campbell, have been playing together for more than a decade. THE LAW CORNER
Q. I was injured in a motor vehicle accident and I missed work. Can I claim for lost income?
A. Yes. If the other driver is the cause of the collision, you are entitled to be restored to your pre-accident position. That means you can claim for income loss in addition to damages for pain, suffering and loss of enjoyment of life. In fact, if your injuries linger, you can claim for loss of future earning capacity. If you have been injured in a motor vehicle collision, please contact our office to discuss your situation, as the calculation of wage loss claims can be complicated.

He was very active in the rodeos and agricultural life on Vancouver Island. In later years, he converted the farm into a parkland where he enjoyed the wildlife and peace of country living.
