ITB JATINANGOR TRAINING CENTER 2011 Gallery | Studios | Workshops tutor Achmad Rida S.

This project is located in ITB new campus complex in a rural area, Jatinangor, West Java. With this training center, ITB tried to provide the locals with basic skills through many training programmes. All of this training programmes, from classes to workshops, will be accomodated in this training center.

The idea was to bring a strong presence of the training center, so it will be easily spotted by the visitors. Triangle and hexagonal were choosen as the basic forms, and the structure was also being exposed. While being alien to the surroundings, this training center still located within the axis of the campus masterplan.

REVITALITATION OF AN OLD STATION 2012 Museum | Retail | Public Spaces tutor Widjaja M.

Stasiun Semut has been one of the renowned train station in Surabaya. Being more than 100 years old, this building was classified as class A heritage building, where the building has to be preserved with no intervention whatsoever. This project aims to gather ideas to revitalized the station to be as great as the old times.

The strategy of the revitalitation is to make the old station as the new landmark. The station is turned into a node of activities and connectivity between the building surroundings. A new function is also needed to be inserted into the old station because the train station function has been acommodated by the new station on the west side of the old station. Therefore, museum is choosen as the new proposed function because of the value of culture and history within the old station.

[ heritage building ] As an A class building heritage, this station has to be restorated to the way it was. But the condition after the half-demolition is quite unconstructable. Some parts of it's interior has been demolished. Therefore, an intervention is added to improve the space quality and the building itself. And the choosen form of intervention was the juxtaposition.

The idea is to make the old station the only building in it's street corridor. Therefore, the existing buildings on the left side of the station will be turned into green spaces.

Some part of the station was an addition from the renovation on 1990. This addition will be removed and turned into a more proper addition.

The additional building is put beside and above the old building, so that it looks like the old building was being framed by the new one. As for the material, glass and steel will be used.

[ connectivity ] The old station Semut is located in a commercial district, where the mobility is very high. But, unfortunately the linkage in between was very poor. To move to another building, one has to take vehicle, and public transportation was not preferable. Hence, traffic jam can not be avoided, especially in peak hours.

The site is located in the center of the district, and in between two commercial buildings. But, people has to go around the site to move to another location.

Therefore, a bridge is proposed to connect the buildings. The proposed bridge is put above the railtracks and pedestrian only.

Another linkage also being proposed on the ground floor, connecting the old station to the new station. Parking area is also added at the other side of the site.

[ urban scheme ] There are two ways for citizen to come to this district. First, they can use private car, where they can park their car in the parking area. Second, they can use public transportation, train, where they stop at the new train station. From there, they can go to the museum through the retail connector. Furthermore, if they want to go shopping, they can use the bridge connector to Pasar Atum or Pengempon Square.

The roof was badly damaged. And so, because the platform itself will be used as main exhibition hall, the roof and the truss will be restored as the main structure of the building, using steel and metal sheet.

The wall and the paint will be cleaned and maintained. The doors and the windows will be fixed and replaced with the new one, without changing the original fixtures and ornaments.

To balance the 'heavy' old station below, the additional building will be using light materials such as steel for the structure, and glass for the exterior wall. This new building will acommodate multimedia library on the second floor, and temporary exhibition on the third and the fourth floor.

Beacuse the platform will be used as main exhibition hall, an enclosure is needed. In order to maximize the daylighting, glass is choosen as the material, This glass is framed with aluminium and steel frame. This enclosure will be installed with 10 cm gap from the exsisting column platform.

DECONSTRUCTIVE CINEMA CENTER 2013 Cinema | Theater | Public Spaces tutor Heru Poerbo

In the last five years, movie industry in Indonesia had been growing rapidly. Therefore, a project was initiated by a developer company with local production house, called Indonesia Movieland. This project is a district that dedicated for Indonesia movie industry, and the cinema center was part of the whole masterplan.

[ project location ] Indonesia Movieland Cinema Center is a combination of movie theaters, performance theater, and a museum, where publication and the distribution of movies took place. The design is focused on how to create a building image that can make the impression of a district's central as a venue where grand events being held. The design approached is "outside - in", resulting in an iconic building with flexible spaces.

[ moving images ] The site is shaped by the principle of the centrifugal force. with the circulation as energy that form the force, and the building masses as the effect of the force itself. The circulation is circular and pointed to the center, while the building masses have a deconstructive form because of the 'toss effect' from the force. This concept will let the visitors to exploit many possible spatial sequences. Therefore, the iconic will be describes as the deconstructive form and dynamic spatial sequences.

[ siteplan ] The cinema center divided into three main buildings. Each building accomodates different function; cinema, theater, and museum. The amphitheater is put in the center of the site as the outdoor performance stage.

RENEW OF AN ABANDONED PHARMACY

2012 Retail | Community Spaces tutor Widjaja M. | Achmad D. Tardiyana in collaboration with A. Ahtar | Prathito A. | R. Agung | Reina R. | Reza A. | Silvia A.

Bandung has been dubbed as the art deco style laboratory. This city was built from zero by the colonial government, with Jalan Asia Afrika as its center. now, most of the buildings that used to be shop houses, office, etc, are deteriorating, including this building, once a busy pharmacy. As building conservation is not yet an important issue in Indonesia, we're hoping that by renewing this building will make Indonesians realize the importance of building conservation. How it is not about perceiving colonial heritages as old scars, but as a part of the city history that needs to be embraced. When people appreciate conservation, dormant parts of a city can also be rejunevated and enjoyed.

Building in use Abandoned building The Abandoned Pharmacy

Jalan Asia Afrika was once a great street in Bandung. It holds many historical values since it was the starting point of Bandung development as a city. But, because of the lack of implementation of city planning, and the weak law enforcement, a lot of historical buildings in this street are ended up abandoned and torn down. The abandoned pharmacy building has been demolished, left alone it's facade, making way to build a new budget hotel as the expansion to the hotel across the street. As for Bandung itself, this city has many creative communities. They are trying to build Bandung to become an emerging creative city by initiate many programmes and activities. But now, the communities are spread throught the city. If they're concentrated in a particular place, it would ease the communication and coordination between each communities to another.

[ renew heritage building ] We plan to attract high end and established or young but independent brands that acknowledge hitory and classic beauty. We want to initiate a mutual symbiosis between the brands and their customers: related creative communities. Our concept is to obligate the brands to provide community hubs. When the community hubs have formed, the building would be given second chance to live. It would also enhance the brands consumer loyalty as the community members are their customers too. There are many alternatives of how the building will be used. But, based on the phenomenon, where information technology has become important part of everyday lifes, we chose the collaboration between gadget lover communities with high end company brand.

DOBRAK KOTAK MODEL MAKING

[ dobrak kotak ] Dobrak kotak was a public installation project, that initiated as part of a competition. We were asked to make public installation that can invite people to play within the installation. Therefore, we made serial of moving chairs in a public park. These chairs could encourage people to play by pushing and crashing the boxes, or make a small group discussion by gathering together a few of the boxes.
