Those running care homes know the ins and outs of their business, but according to show sponsor Distinct Business Insurance (DBI), with so many products on the market, choosing the right cover can be complex. Adam Haynes, Commercial Manager at DBI, explains: “As a broker, we’ve been advising on insurance needs for nearly 30 years and research a multitude of providers and options for a truly tailored solution. We take individual circumstances into account, including unusual or historic premises or adverse claims history. We look at the building and contents being insured as well as public liability, and can split these between insurers if it’s beneficial. Adam adds: “Our advice may prove to be more than worthwhile, particularly if the worst should
happen. If a business can no longer trade due to a flood or fire, for example, we can take into account gross profit levels, calculate and cover any increased costs of working and can even provide a PR professional to assist with crisis management. “It’s also about safeguarding employees and residents, which is where cover for medical malpractice and employer’s liability is vitally important. Where most standard policies only cover a resident’s personal items up to the value of £500 at the most, we can arrange

WHAT DO WE COVER? Second Wind Dreams The Virtual Dementia Tour was invented 20 years ago by PK Beville who is president of American non profit company Second Wind Dreams. Experience Training The Virtual Dementia Tour is the only scientifically and medically proven method of giving someone without dementia an experience of what it might be like. Improve Standards By walking in the shoes of a person with dementia, we can start to understand the issues that those with the disease experience every day, including: confusion, isolation, feeling lost, intimidated and vulnerable. Using our technology, we can understand the changes that need to be made to improve the quality of care. Improve Lives The Virtual Dementia Tour helps staff and loved ones to truly understand what adjustments can be made to improve the lives of people living with dementia.
WHAT’S INVOLVED? Requirements of the VDT Requirements of the Virtual Dementia Tour can be delivered either within the dementia simulator or in the workplace. The mobile unit will come to the workplace and has a selfcontained awning to use as a holding room and de-brief area (weather permitting). The mobile simulator is ideal for any care facility that has a safe parking area. If the workplace does not have the space for the mobile unit then we will opt for a classroom version. For this we would require two rooms, the first for the experience and the second for use as a holding and de-brief room.
