INSPIRATION AND INNOVATION FROM OUR EXPERTS Holiday Park & Resort Innovation will deliver the finest line-up of speakers working in Britain’s holiday park industry. Our keynote schedule will provide you with an unsurpassable depth of knowledge and insight to help your park become the number one choice.

WILLIAM MCNAMARA OBE

FOUNDER & CEO OF BLUESTONE NATIONAL PARK RESORT William McNamara is a farmer turned entrepreneur who conceived Bluestone National Park Resort and steered it through to the award-winning, fivestar reality it is today in the stunning 500 acres of Pembrokeshire countryside. A Pembrokeshire man by birth, William farmed until his late twenties, then diversified into the leisure industry and created Oakwood Theme Park. Over the next 15 years, William built Oakwood into one of Wales’ premier leisure attractions, a contribution to tourism which was recognised with an OBE in 1999.

When it comes to business advice, it pays to listen to people who have a track record of unique success and experience; people who have demonstrated again and again a natural talent for rising to the top, whatever the circumstances. We’re proud to bring you an unrivalled selection of the very finest holiday park business owners and professionals, delivering an essential mix of advice, ideas, and inspiration across various holiday park sectors, from camping, glamping and caravanning to luxury homes away from home. The next few pages detail every keynote speaker and their seminars so that you can make sure you don’t miss the session that’s imperative to you, and if your hot topic isn’t covered, don’t forget to check out the full seminar schedule later in this guide for more chances to hear first-hand from the experts that can change your business fortunes.

Soon a new direction beckoned. William saw a gap in the market for high quality, activity-based short breaks, and realised that the beautiful peninsular county of Pembrokeshire was the ideal setting. William imagined a world-class, year-round, leisure and holiday destination that would be designed and built to operate in harmony with Pembrokeshire’s matchless natural splendour. The Bluestone vision was born. Though the term ‘sustainability’ had yet to enter common parlance, William’s vision had two principles at its heart: Bluestone would be an integral part of the socio-economic fabric of Pembrokeshire, and care for the natural environment would be simply non-negotiable. During this time, William has attained a helicopter flying licence and in January 2012 he trekked to the South Pole, the last 100kms unaided, to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and to commemorate the 100th anniversary (17th January 1912) of Captain Robert Scott’s ill-fated expedition to the South Pole. Captain Scott and his crew left the port of Cardiff in their ship Terranova to sail to Antartica. Today, Bluestone is one of Wales’ top luxury short break destinations and its brand is recognised UK-wide, attracting guests from throughout the country.

WEDNESDAY HOLIDAY PARK THEATRE 2 SEMINAR SNAPSHOT Bluestone National Park Resort is now one of Wales’ top luxury short break destinations, offering guests unparalleled levels of opportunities to spend time having free range fun and relaxation.

NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BUYING OR SELLING A HOLIDAY PARK BUSINESS

The Holiday Park & Resort Show are proud to have The Family Holiday Association as their Offical Charity for 2015. The Family Holiday Association helps struggling families get a break. The breaks can be anything from a simple day out to a few days in a caravan at the British seaside. The families they support face some of the toughest challenges life can bring, from severe and sudden illness in the family to abuse or bereavement. The evidence we gather from our work helps demonstrate the positive difference a simple break can make to a struggling family. The Family Holiday Association is the only national charity dedicated to helping struggling families who can’t get help anywhere else, create lifelong memories from quality time spent together. WHERE FREE RANGE FUN AND RELAXATION COMBINE FOR A LUXURY SHORT BREAK FOR ALL AGES Bluestone National Park Resort is now one of Wales’ top luxury short break destinations, offering guests unparalleled levels of opportunities to spend time having free range fun and relaxation.

Having already established Oakwood Theme Park into one of Wales’ leading leisure attractions, William McNamara, OBE saw a gap in the market for high quality, activity-based short breaks, and realised that the beautiful peninsular county of Pembrokeshire was the ideal setting. William imagined a world-class, year-round, leisure and holiday destination that would be designed and built to operate in harmony with Pembrokeshire’s matchless natural splendour. The Bluestone vision was born.

Catering for the family and non-family markets, Bluestone has over 300 luxury lodges, cottages and studio apartments within 500 acres of spectacular Pembrokeshire countryside surrounding its very own private village.

The Adventure Centre is where the great outdoors comes indoors. All undercover, guests can let the kids burn off some energy with soft play, bouncy castles, mini golf, climbing frames, the big four, discovery zones, Circus Zone, Baby Sensory and more.

Opened in 2008, Bluestone has its own all-weather and all-year Blue Lagoon water park, the Adventure Centre, Steep Ravine, Tournament Field, Well Spa Retreat, restaurants, bakery, shops and much more. It has received five star accreditation from Visit Wales since its opening, and has an ability to provide guests with tranquil surroundings, while maximising opportunities for outdoor and indoor adventures and fun for all ages.

There are over 100 activities at Bluestone, from beast hunts to raft building, Celtic Rangers to forest trails and much more.

The Steep Ravine combines high ropes and zip wires within its own wood, along with Camp Smokey for some great outdoor cooked dishes. The Tournament Field combines a range of giant fun activities, including catapults and trebuchet, as well as archery, laser clay shooting and much more. The Blue Lagoon water park combines complete aqua adventures, with flumes, wave pool, indoor beach, and the lazy river. It’s also heated, along with the Adventure Centre, by a biomass system which uses locally sourced crops.

For those looking to relax, the luxury Well Spa Retreat has its own steam rooms and saunas as well as ESPA treatments and treatment rooms with trained staff. It also has a hydrotherapy pool and Café Mor, it’s very own eatery. Food and drink also plays an important part at Bluestone. The resort uses locally sourced produce and ingredients wherever possible to produce its homemade dishes. With a range of restaurants and eateries to suit all tastes, there is something for everyone, even a traditional Welsh village pub with open fire. The village is also home to a number of shops and a bakery. Bluestone continues to invest in its accommodation and facilities and has a range of lodges, cottages and studio apartments for family and non-family markets. From couples enjoying a romantic break, or a family getaway, to friends and family getting together for a celebration.

Bluestone National Park Resort is now one of Wales’ top luxury short break destinations, offering guests unparalleled levels of opportunities to spend time having free range fun and relaxation

FEATURE

PUTTING YOUR PARK UP FOR REVIEW The Internet’s influence on a traveller’s final choice of holiday destination is unsurprisingly high. As a convenient and detailed source of information, here is the place where your next customer can read about what your park offers and why they should be choosing your destination for their next break. Travel review sites are indisputably the most effective resource for holiday makers, having a powerful impact on choices; for this reason alone, it’s natural to think that most holiday parks and attraction venues would proactively use online review sites such as TripAdvisor, MyGlampsiteReview.com and MyCampsiteReview.com to lure consumers, respond to customer queries and generally promote their services. Providing the user with a platform with which to leave a review is vital to the development of your business; a statistic from TripAdvisor reveals that 53% of users say they wouldn’t book without a review to read first. Encouraging your customers to leave feedback should be all part of the service. Positive reviews bring obvious benefits, and negative ones enable you to exercise your customer service in replying to any unhappy guests, all whilst ensuring holiday makers know your name.

“A worldwide study in 2015 found properties that respond to more than 50% of social media reviews grow occupancy rates at more than twice the rate of properties that tend to ignore reviews” Medallia, 2015

TOP 10 TIPS FOR HANDLING ONLINE REVIEWS The Internet often plays the role of being the first and last place where your customer learns about you; therefore, your online reputation needs to be as sharp as the service you offer. Every service provider, big or small, has to deal with negative reviews. However, it’s not so much the unwanted feedback which can damage their reputation, but more the way such communication is handled. This is what can define a business’ reputation. Here are 10 points for you to consider when faced with an unfavourable review.

THE DO’S

1

Be Honest! - If the bad review was legitimate then recognise this and respond fairly.

2

Make Feedback Easy - Give customers/visitors a way to easily communicate feedback to you so you can handle issues head on before it ends up on public sites.

3

Encourage Good Reviews - Make it easy to leave them and thank them for these online too!

4

Respond Quickly - Try to get in first, and either thank customers for a good review or address anything raised in a bad review quickly.

5

Watch Your Grammar & Be Polite “Their” are many ways to lose “you’re” bookings!

THE DON’TS

1

Don’t Ignore Reviews – Be it good or bad, it’s important to acknowledge reviews (especially the bad ones!)

2 3

Don’t Get Defensive - Respond professionally at all times; it’s imperative you remain cool, calm and collected!

4

Don’t Forget The Positive Feedback - If someone loved you then thank them! Maybe offer them a loyalty discount for future business/visits!

5

Don’t Dismiss Bad Feedback – You should see any feedback as a good thing for your business. Good or bad you should always be striving to improve your business. Honest reviews are a great way of monitoring what you’re doing right, and what you’re doing wrong. They’re also what a lot of people base their choices on, so take some time to get it right!

Don’t Get Carried Away - No ranting, no excessively long posts, and don’t get too personal.

ECO-INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR FORWARD THINKING FARMERS Offering low carbon solutions for all your farming needs – whether upgrading existing premises, undertaking new building projects or diversifying into glamping. We are a UK-based manufacturing company working with bio composite materials to produce and sell environmentally friendly, hardwearing and attractive building and living products of the future. Our first product, the deepee, is a luxury eco-home that will set your glamping business apart. Already becoming very popular on campsites across Europe, it is a cost-effective and attractive addition to your glamping business and you could be one of the first to own our new deluxe model that can sleep up to six people. The deepee is as versatile as your imagination. It is available in a variety of colours, with multiple doors, windows and connecting walkways to create whole living communities. It can also be fitted with a stove and chimney for cooking.

With a life expectancy of approximately 25 years, it is durable and can be used time and again as a valuable and cost-effective living or workspace. It is weather proof, has thermal properties that mean it stays cool in summer and warm in winter, and it is fire retardant. We believe bio composites are the future - offering a significant reduction in environmental damage, reduced energy consumption and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. As well as the deepee, we will be showcasing a range of eco building solutions for the farming and construction industry made from our ingenious bio composites. So if you want to see the materials of the future, come and have a chat with us to find out more!

IT’S THE WAY TO GO

A simple, very affordable eco-friendly solution, for all your sanitation problems. However remote, all applications catered for. Imagine a toilet that has no need for water, ground excavation, plumbing, sewage outlet, septic tank or cesspit and can be put anywhere, even where you couldn’t fit a conventional WC. A figment of the imagination? Well, there is such a product, a ‘dry separating toilet’ that mimics the design of the human body. Urine goes one way and the solid material another. The design is simple, clever and almost foolproof. All the elements required

“A simple, very affordable eco-friendly solution, for all your sanitation problems” to create excellent compost occur naturally within our bodies. The urine, which is sterile grey water, can be poured onto the compost heap, soaked or drained away. Aerobic microorganisms break down the solid matter over a period of time; this

process also destroys harmful pathogens and the anaerobic microorganisms that create the foul odours. There are no smells, or waste, just two excellent products that can safely be used as fertiliser. Other important assets of this system are water and money saving, by not requiring a sewage connection water bills are reduced and drinking water isn’t wasted. Composting our human by-products is not alien or distasteful but sensible, safe and eco-friendly. A perfect solution. To complement the toilets and to have control over your environment we are introducing the W.H.A.L.E: Water from Households Aboveground Living Ecosystem. Grey water is piped from the dwelling through a series of five gravel and reed planted troughs, then recycled for showers, washing machines etc. As an option, a version is available which will provide drinking water from waste or rainwater.

STAND NUMBER 471

DEDICATED TO FARM AND COUNTRY HOLIDAYS Farm Stay UK is the only organisation dedicated to promoting farm and rural holidays in the UK. Run on a “not for profit” basis, every spare penny is used in the promotion of our accommodation.

helping our guests to have the best farm and countryside experience possible.

So what sets Farm Stay UK apart from the crowd? Most tourism organisations promote destinations and places; however, thematic and hobby based tourism is just as important and evidence shows that guests will spend significantly more on pursuing their hobbies than they do on a regular “destination” holiday. This is what makes Farm Stay UK stand alone in a very crowded market place. Since 1981, Farm Stay UK, originally the Farm Holiday Bureau, has dedicated its entire efforts on promoting, supporting and marketing farm based and rural holidays across all four countries of the UK. It has been calculated that Farm Stay UK’s guests have spent over £3 billion in the rural economy over the 30 years of its existence,

CONTACT US Web: Tel: Email:

That experience has evolved at a pace, matching our guests expectations as the years have passed. There have been discernible moves from primarily a B&B based offering to one that has been equalled by self-catering, whether it is in a traditional farm cottage or in a cleverly converted out-building, barn or even a pigsty! The current trend is with “glamping”, but what fundamentally underlies all of these holiday offerings is the experience of being on the farm and in the countryside with family and friends creating a lifetime of memories.

“we believe the values with which we operate our business match those with which our guests would expect from a sustainable countryside holiday”

For such a relatively small area the UK offers a myriad of landscapes and this is reflected in the offering our guests can choose from. The wide open fens and endless beaches of East Anglia to the rugged lakes and mountains of Wales or the Lake District, the gentle hills and chocolate box prettiness of the Cotswolds or the stark moors of the South West all converge with Farm Stay UK. It is not one place but one fantastic ideal. And once you have found your place there is the bounty of home-made and home cooked food, access to local producers of cheese, bread, meat, fruit and vegetables; do you know how good an egg straight from the hen house, or home baked scones with home-made raspberry jam and local clotted cream tastes? So if you believe that you can offer your guests this experience then Farm Stay UK is the place to advertise. We operate a NOT FOR PROFIT business run by tourism professionals using a simple membership scheme that starts at just £249 per year. No commission is payable on bookings and every penny is ploughed back into the business as we don’t have to pay offshore share-holders or directors’ bonuses. We believe the values with which we operate our business match those with which our guests would expect from a sustainable countryside holiday. How can you benefit from the new market benchmarked data? Until now…. you’ve had to make decisions in isolation. You know your business and your customers, and your in-house or third party systems tell you your numbers. But every time you make a decision, you make it without knowing where your current position, or what you’re about to decide, places you in comparison with everyone else in your market. So you don’t really know how well you’re doing now and you know too little about the impact your decision – short term commercial or long term strategic - is likely to have on income and profits and where your business will stand in the future. But now….

There’s massive value to gain, and to avoid losing, by having this data: “…If I’d known then that the whole market was in the same boat, I’d not have cut prices and I’d not have wasted money on that campaign – I’d have saved [££££££ confidential, but at least 50 years of Plum fees]” we were told by one CEO “…if I’d known that the rest of my region was doing so much worse, I’d have bonused my salesman and wouldn’t have lost him” says a family owned business “…If I’d have known where the real demand was I’d not have wasted a fortune on the wrong lodges for my park” Plum Data has been created to fill these and other gaps.

Members of Plum will for the first time be able to compare their own business and performance with anonymised relevant peer groups of competitors. And it covers all

aspects, from achieved lettings and forward bookings for hire fleet, tourers and tents, through sales of holiday homes, revenues and costs by line right across your business, and how your mix of accommodation, facilities and location is faring and evolving across the market. “..I’ll make the Plum fees back in just one sale, and it’ll help me grow my lettings and glamping business too…” “...with Plum Data I will no longer be making decisions in my own bubble” says an experienced general manager in a small family owned group of parks Plum will provide you with regular personalised reports, including

To do this Plum collects large amounts of data simply and efficiently. Plum is designed to give you valuable detail while maintaining data confidentiality. So in every category Plum Reports show you your own data benchmarked against relevant but anonymised and aggregated competitors. And your competitors see the same for their own data. To ensure both the security and quality of the data Plum creates for you, Plum encrypts all the data it collects through its purpose built web based system and API based automatic data feeds. Plum has been created as an independent organisation by two entities with relevant deep skills and relevant knowledge. SRP and its team have been working with and helping holiday parks, touring and camping sites, luxury lodges and farm complex businesses in relationships of trust for many years. The University of Surrey is Europe’s leading University in Hospitality & Tourism with around one thousand people in its School of Hosptality & Tourism. Its combination of research and education provision gives it a huge amount to offer the sector. Its statisticians and economists help to ensure the quality of our data and the value of our reports. Plum has developed over the last year with input and support from leaders and thinkers in all parts of the sector, from the largest to the smallest because we needed to make sure that it is relevant, practical to use and gives really good value for all.

PASSIONATE ABOUT WHAT YOU PRODUCE AND WANT TO SELL TO THE PUBLIC? From market stalls to farm shops, food emporiums to PYOs, milk delivery rounds to CSAs, passionate farmers are selling to the public of Britain every day of the year. When milk prices are the subject of supermarket wars, lamb is cheaper to bring in from New Zealand and supply chains for strawberries are impenetrable for small producers, having an opportunity to sell directly to the public is critical to many farms and estates across Britain. Establishing your own farm retail business can help spread the risk of relying on commodity markets and spread the cash flow across the year, however starting a shop or trading at farmers’ markets is not easy and there are a lot of pitfalls on the way. The farm is not doing too well, this will save it! To set up a retail business is not cheap; planning costs, development costs, and cash flow during quiet periods such as January, February and March will all need to be budgeted for. The new business will also

“Starting a shop or trading at farmers’ markets is not easy and there are a lot of pitfalls on the way” take away management time from the rest of the farm, meaning that a struggling farm will be facing increased pressure for money and management time. Before you start on a diversification business make sure your core business is working well. Not everyone shops like you! One of the first mistakes is to think that all the customers

52

out there are like you; they eat the same food, communicate in the same way and are interested in what you’re interested in. This is not the case. Find out the difference between a millennial and a baby boomer. I have a great location, it can’t fail! Location is important and will make a big difference to the performance of the business, but it’s not the biggest consideration. It’s more important to have strong leadership and management. Identify who will be leading the project and check to see what skills they have or need. Our lamb is amazing, people will come for miles to buy it! Only if they know how good the lamb is and if they understand why it’s so good. Most consumers will be driving past supermarket after supermarket to get to your farm so the offering has to be great and the consumer has to understand what is making your lamb worth the journey. It does not matter how good the lamb is if the person selling it doesn’t say hello or the farm is a mess when they arrive. Think about the customer’s experience from start to finish. The first step for anyone looking at starting a farm retail business of any type is to immerse yourself in the sector, find out all you can about it, talk to as many people you can and go to as many events as you can. FARMA is a great starting point to do this, whether it’s joining our regional members groups, attending training workshops, talking on our private members forum, privately meeting one of our members to learn about their journey or comparing your business plan to our members benchmarking data.

Being vertical means it can attach to a garden wall fence, balcony or conservatory wall and is just as versatile in rows in huge commercial greenhouses where they turn your acreage into volume and grow many times more produce in the same footprint as traditional growing, providing consistently fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and salad crops that are full of flavour and safe for the family to eat. The Aponic growing tubes can be

mounted at any height to allow you to work at the height you want it and is accessible for people in wheelchairs, the elderly and children alike. This system was originally to be used for Aquaponics, or using fish waste to feed the plants. The water from a pond to pump through the system, the growing tubes act as biological digesters and turn the ammonia from the fish waste into nitrate which feeds the plants. This adds huge amounts of dissolved oxygen to the water as it passes through the tubes to maintain healthy fish even through the hottest of summers. So, if you want to easily grow plenty of great tasting, healthy food for your family but you don’t want to spend your time digging, weeding and watering, we have a truly sustainable growing solution for gardeners and commercial growers alike.

Looking to diversify your farming business? Why not find out if anaerobic digestion (ad) is right for you? What is ad?

What can ad do?

• Anaerobic digestion is a naturally occurring process of decomposition • The energy release from the breaking down of organic matter can be harnessed in a farm-based AD plant to make electricity, gas and green fuel for tractors and leave you with an excellent organic biofertiliser (digestate)

AD can provide your farming business with: • Alternative revenue streams from selling your excess energy back to the grid and digestate biofertiliser • An opportunity to save money by using the heat and power produced by your plant and to reduce other farm input costs • A way of dealing with your farm wastes in a sustainable and responsible manner

LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM.... As a reaction to the stress and strain of modern living, a movement has taken shape in the U.S that encourages people to build and live in tiny houses, as a way to live low impact and re-connect with the wilderness. Inspired by this idea, True Tiny Houses was created to share this same spirit here in the UK. True Tiny Houses are not fixed structures and can be moved, so in most cases they do not require planning. Built to the same standards as any large timber frame building, fully insulated, double glazed and with minimum maintenance required, our tiny houses offer a warm, dry, secure and unique outdoor experience at any time of year, whatever the weather. Comfortably accommodating

a family of five, each charming True Tiny House has been crafted to last for tens of years with very little maintenance. Yet, as most of the construction takes place in our workshops, a typical house can be erected in just one day. Although the same cost as a yurt or bell tent, they are far more practical and last years longer. Please contact us to see if a True Tiny House could work for you, extending your site’s camping season and offering a picturesque unique retreat.

THE CAMPING AND CARAVANNING CLUB Are you looking to diversify? You may consider setting up a small lucrative Certificated Site - whether it’s for extra income, or a way of meeting new people, making new friends, or simply sharing your beautiful surroundings with others. What is a Certificated Site? Certificated Sites are private campsites that accommodate up to five caravans or motorhomes and 10 tents for up to 28 consecutive days, at any one time. It’s completely at your discretion as to what type of site you provide – it can be a basic hideaway or a fully facilitated family-friendly set up. Your site could be tent-only, caravanonly, or accept all unit types. What are the basic requirements? You need to have at least half an acre or more of land for the site, made up of fairly level land, clearly marked with signs which the Club will provide. The site requires safe access based on an unrestricted view either side of your entrance and exit point. If the approach road to the site is fairly narrow

or single track, there should be enough passing places to ensure safety of all road users. Written agreement must be obtained from all parties who have ownership rights on the access road.

Set-up costs A Site Officer will visit your proposed site location and assess the land for its suitability; they will provide you with your likely set-up costs and what you need to carry out in advance of the site receiving its certification.

Before a certificate is issued, you need to provide the site with a chemical disposal point for toilets, a rinsing water tap and a drinking water tap with a non-return valve. These need to be signposted, within 100 meters of the camping area.

A questionnaire sent to current Certificated Site owners showed a large percentage of owners incurred approximately £3,000 for set-up costs; they also stated they felt these costs were reasonable.

Campers must have access to dry waste disposal - this can be something as simple as a dustbin.

Maintenance costs will be apparent throughout the running of your site. Some examples are as follows:

“It’s completely at your discretion as to what type of site you provide – it can be a basic hideaway or a fully facilitated family-friendly set up. Your site could be tent-only, caravan-only, or accept all unit types’”

Annual water supply testing if it is not mains-supplied. Annual electric hook-up testing. Chemical disposal point (CDP) emptying. A recommended 600 gallon tank needs to be emptied once or twice a year depending on occupancy levels.

OUTDOOR CLEANING EQUIPMENT & ELECTRIC TRUCKS

Established in 1972, Blachere Illumination has developed an enviable international reputation as one of the world’s market leaders in festive and decorative illuminations.

Manufacturers of outdoor cleaning equipment and distributors of electric trucks and weed rippers.

Light it and they will come. We have been involved in some great projects over the years. Here are just a few: Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow: We created a ceiling of light in the Square. This was so popular even the Police liked it; we received an email from them asking if it could be left up all year round as it had reduced crime in the area. Cinderella Castle, Walt Disney World, Florida: Having already provided the lighting for the Castle in Disneyland Paris, WDW Florida had a dream, and that was their castle would be better. Months of preparation and collaboration with the Disney imagineers enabled that dream to come true. We even made the lights disappear during the day.

How did we do that? Well, pixie dust, of course. This year we teamed up with Estate Life to bring our expertise to the Farm Business and Country House world. Light it and they will come. Examples of how lighting gives a return on the investment; Blackpool Illuminations spend approximately £2.2m per year; that’s a lot of money. They attract three million visitors during the two months of the illuminations and they spend over £200m. That’s a lot of kiss me quick hats and candy floss. Now, you may not have that kind of budget, but the principle is the same. You can create an atmosphere, a show, or an event with light. We can help you do that.

By applying the best principles of Passivhaus and BRE to volumetric modular construction, we believe we provide real solutions for those looking for a way around the uncertainty and stress of traditional building.

“Boutique Modern provide convenience and financial efficiency; contact us to discuss your thoughts and let us help maximise your business potential” By pre-fabricating volumetric pods with all the structural integrity of a conventional building, we achieve a high level of infactory finish with fully fitted fixtures. Completing nearly all works in-factory hugely diminishes the time needed on-site, allowing business to continue as usual on any prospective site and enabling our clients to choose a date for delivery which best suits them. With only one day of site traffic, ground disturbance and noise, we can keep disruption to your expanding business to an absolute minimum. This, coupled with the minimal groundwork and foundations required by our system, means that Boutique Modern buildings have the lightest possible impact on the environment and the local community. Gone are the destructive and disruptive habits of the conventional building site. Building in a factory also has a positive effect on the environmental and budgetary concerns of a project. CAN FARM VENDING MACHINES CONQUER THE UK? Although farm vending remains an important source of income, it can also be time consuming; a vending machine helps to solve this problem. We are a Belgian company that specialises in the development and production of a unique type of farm vending machine. Our brand expands across the borders to Holland, France and Switzerland but not yet to the UK – something we are looking to change.

“Investing in a vending machine will always be a win-win situation for both farmer and customer” Due to its rural character, the UK still holds a lot of opportunities for introducing and selling our vending machines to farmers, local shop owners, meat rearing companies and anyone else interested in selling fresh products without the necessity to always be there. Due to the distance and the vastness of the UK market we are looking for distributors to sell and install our vending machines on site. We offer a unique assortment of non-refrigerated, refrigerated and freezing units that can all be combined with the same payment terminal. This way you can create your own farm shop without actually having to be there.

PROVIDING WI-FI FOR YOUR LEISURE CUSTOMERS AND BUSINESS IS NO LONGER A LUXURY – IT’S A NECESSITY. A recent survey of over 1,000 UK holiday makers has revealed that 67% think that Wi-Fi access is the most important factor when choosing accommodation; this ranked above location at 65% and a good bar at 26%. As more people opt to spend their holidays camping in the UK, families are turning to their iPhones, iPads and other smartphones for entertainment and inspiration to make the most of the temperamental British weather, and to ensure they stay connected. Many people are turning to Wi-Fi to check emails, do homework and surf the Internet in their leisure time, and tiered data plans for cellular phones should cause continued Wi-Fi growth as Wi-Fi in comparison offers a more cost effective choice. Provision of Wi-Fi for leisure sites Wi-Fi can mostly be offered via either free or charged plans to guests. Public Internet access can be provided for key guest locations such as bars and clubhouses, reception and recreation areas and across all of the accommodation whether they’re static caravans, mobile pitches or chalets. Various commercial models are available to fit the needs of every business- from profit share pay-as-you-go options or fully managed Wi-Fi networks. Typically the pay-as-you-go service allows the Wi-Fi to be supplied & installed without cost; therefore,

there’s no capital outlay. Alternatively, the site purchases the network outright and the system is managed, supported & maintained by the provider, leaving the park to provide free Internet access or resell Internet access to guests. Social Wi-Fi and benefits If you wish to give away Wi-Fi in your public areas then you can transform your Wi-Fi into Social Wi-Fi. Social works by asking customers who access your Wi-Fi to do so with a social network login such as Facebook or Twitter. Customers are prompted to ‘like’ you on Facebook or ‘follow’ you on Twitter, allowing you to receive feedback and increase social media engagement to a wider circle of their friends. Social Wi-Fi is for large & small leisure parks along with businesses such as restaurants, bars, coffee shops, hotels, sports stadiums and retail spaces that want more from the free Wi-Fi they provide. Businesses benefit by appearing on various social feeds, offering the opportunity to increase your presence on social media and inform existing and prospective customers about offers and deals.

Custom landing pages Businesses benefit greatly from having a landing page which they can personalise with their company branding, and proves an excellent way to market and advertise new offers and promotions to customers as well as a simple way to allow the user to log onto the Internet using social media. Modern Wi-Fi systems use the landing page to capture user’s details and display terms and conditions online, bypassing the requirement to issue free paper tickets, take manual payments or even purchase access vouchers from vendors to re-sell. The installation process Wi-Fi systems mainly come in two offerings; a self-install, plug and play “kit” for smaller sites, and a custom solution for larger parks, which are usually installed by our onsite engineers. Installations usually consist of various small antennae located around the park, fixed to buildings, offices, toilet blocks or lampposts and at least one Internet line in the form of ADSL, fibre, 3/4G or satellite.

The legal and security implications of offering public Wi-Fi Businesses, which offer Wi-Fi or public Internet access without logging or filtering are putting themselves at risk. Camping Connect can provide a secure & legally compliant Wi-Fi system for your business and guests.

All Camping Connect public WiFi systems comply with: • Prove that steps have been taken to prevent illegal online activity (Digital Economy Act 2010) • Store certain user usage data for 12 months (EU Data Retention Regulation) • Keep personal data on individuals who access according to the Data Protection Act

Blocking illegal activity When offering public Wi-Fi you need to prevent copyright infringement, as users have to both register and accept terms and conditions, which cover inappropriate use and filtering should be deployed to block peerto-peer and other sharing sites.

HELPING FARMERS GET CONNECTED

THE UNIQUE, ELEGANT AND SUSTAINABLE ARC-MOD BUILDING SYSTEM

Whilst superfast broadband is rolling out across the UK, many rural locations don’t even have fast connections.

Innovative and naturally beautiful ARC designs connect the great outdoors to exceptional indoor spaces.

As with every sector, farming businesses often rely on the Internet to connect them with potential customers. Often fraught with poor mobile signal as well, the lack of broadband is really starting to hurt those businesses in the superfast dark spots. Satellite broadband has a bad press, with many consumers shying away from it for fear of an unreliable service or the need for extremely deep pockets. Yet, satellite technology has actually developed at an astounding rate over the past couple of years and whilst those fears would have been well founded before these developments, it is simply no longer the case. A new breed of satellite technology has made a number of improvements for consumers. Firstly, this

technology makes it possible to achieve good connections from equipment that is both cost-effective to purchase and much smaller than ever before. Secondly, the technology is able to exchange lots more data using much less bandwidth, which means the monthly cost is drastically reduced. And finally, systems are much easier to install then ever before, meaning you no longer need extensive training or a team of installers to get you setup. So, whilst there are outcries across the country of “where is our superfast broadband?” there really is already a solution, which covers the entire UK and can give users reliable fast and superfast broadband at a price to suit any pocket! If you want to find out more, please pop over and visit our stand!

MAKE TREES WORK FOR YOUR FARM Planted in the right places, trees can help to bring significant benefits and diversification opportunities to your farm business. More farmers are turning to farm diversification in order to get the most from their land, and with the agricultural sector’s increased challenges, it isn’t surprising. It’s commonplace to enjoy a break in a converted farmhouse B&B, visit a dairy farm’s ice cream parlour, buy produce from farm shops and cafés, or even sample drinks produced by on-farm microbreweries.

“We understand many farmers wish to diversify in ways that work alongside existing livelihoods, and trees offer an excellent opportunity to do this”

74

As the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, for many years we’ve worked closely with farmers, landowners, and agricultural organisations to provide expert advice on ways in which trees can help with diversification projects. By planting new trees or restoring existing woodland on your land, you can benefit from additional business ventures such as game shoots, wood fuel production, tourism and leisure activities, or even alternative produce such as nuts and fruit. With the potential for additional income, trees can also enhance your existing farm business by offering shelter for crops and livestock, assisting with soil management and providing a habitat for vital pollinators.

“The cost benefit of tree planting is one of the best in farming. There is the opportunity to significantly increase income. This shows trees are not just nice to have, they are business assets.” – David Brass, The Lakes Free Range Egg Company For information about how trees could help you, come along to one of the talks by the Woodland Trust’s John Tucker and Stuart Holm.

“Every rural enterprise is different and requires a unique solution, so by using our collective expertise we are able to identify the technology required to implement the right solution for you” We can help transform IT within your business or estate whether that’s with new software to help run your day-to-day processes, implement a wide range rural Wi-Fi network to give you Internet and network access across a large area of land via your mobile, iPad and other mobile devices, install a secure gate entry system, or CCTV enabling you to view your farm or estate from anywhere on the planet. One of the biggest complaints we often hear from the rural community is the slow or even non-existent broadband; well, this

can become a thing of the past with our neat satellite solution. It doesn’t matter where you are in the country or what phone lines you currently have installed, using the latest satellite, we can deploy very fast broadband which, depending on your location, can be between 10mbps and 100mbps, which is 3 to 4 times faster than most networks and the whole solution can be setup within a couple of hours. IT moves quickly and we work closely with our clients so, as and when their needs change, we’re there to ensure that their IT changes to enhance and support their needs. We understand the importance of implementing new and reliable technology as well as supporting any technology you might already have in place; this is why it’s so important that Impact IT work more as a partner than a support company. To put it short, we care. We are keen to solve the challenges of forward thinking rural farms and estates such as Overbury Estate and Lee Abbey, who we have been working with over the last few years. We are passionate about what we do and the service we provide and truly believe we offer a first class service pre and post-sales support. Contact us to see how we can help you.

TRUE MULTI FUEL BIOMASS BOILERS

Bio Global Industries Ltd (BGI) is an innovative energy company that delivers a highly flexible solution to green energy generation in the UK. We are an exclusive distributor of new generation, high-end, multifunctional BIOKOMPAKT biomass boilers – the only TRUE multifuel biomass boilers available in the UK. Biokompakt® – unique technology •

The Biokompakt® boilers are triple fuel and can burn up to three different fuel types, simultaneously, from over 30 pre-tested fuel sources, including agricultural and factory waste

They are capable of co-firing and are built to last since all our boilers have a ceramic chamber which prevents corrosion

They can take a wood chip size of up to 60mm which means you can use a local tree surgeon’s chipper and don’t need to invest in a dedicated biomass chipper

• They are easy to operate, reliable, and come with a fully automated fuel feed system •

They are microcomputer controlled, with self-optimizing fuel adjustment for optimum efficiency

The boiler systems are available from small 15kw to large 130kw and can be cascaded to 1 megawatt

They offer a sensational efficiency rating of up to 94.3%

The BGI Service Buildings are often just as unique and individual as their owners and our mission is to respond to these demands and offer an optimal solution, which is why BGI offer a bespoke boiler design service. We will undertake a site survey and work directly with you to create the most cost effective system for your specific needs. We have a

78

highly trained accredited installer network covering the whole of the UK who will expertly install your boiler, once the designs are agreed. BGI also offer a full back up and design service, full operation training and maintenance contracts.

“Buildings are often just as unique and individual as their owners and our mission is to respond to these demands and offer an optimal solution, which is why BGI offer a bespoke boiler design service” UK Wide Installer Network We have an extensive accredited installer network across the UK and all of our installers are fully trained by us at our UK corporate training centre. Biomass Fuel Supply Why be tied to wood pellets when you can locally source your own biomass fuels? BGI can supply you with a variety of locally sourced biomass fuels and can advise on which fuel would work best for your specific requirements. Our delivery / feed systems are designed to make it easier to receive the fuels. A lorry will arrive and blow the fuel directly into your boiler store, or alternatively, it can be supplied in bags. The system is easy and requires no labour from your end. We are constantly researching alternative biomass

fuels and will provide you with the very latest research and fuel solutions available. Grow Your Own If you have the space to ‘grow your own’ biomass fuels, we can guide you through the process. We can undertake a site feasibility study for managing your own woodland or growing your own crops. For example, we can help set you up with fast growing willow that you coppice and turn into wood chips for burning. At the BGI HQ in Buckinghamshire, we are also testing other fast growing biomass crops in our test beds and would be delighted to show you around. Here you will be able to see small scale biomass plantations at different stages and you may be surprised at what little land you need to be self-sufficient with biomass!

GROW YOUR OWN FUEL – THE FUTURE OF BIOMASS Using multi-fuel Biomass Boilers means you can burn a wide range of alternative, high calorific and cost effective biomass fuels. The potential is now there to turn all green waste into pellets to burn. You can also grow your own biomass crops and utilise animal bedding and manure, with no additional drying or processing.

BRYNTEG HOLIDAY HOME PARK - IMPROVING CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE Brynteg implemented the Sports Booker on-line system as part of a plan to upgrade the leisure and activity programme and improve customer experience. We wanted to improve the customer experience by making it easier for them to select and book activities at a time convenient to them and also to reduce the administration burden and staffing costs at reception. After evaluating numerous systems, we found Sports Booker could meet all our requirements, plus their licences were unlimited. This meant we could expand the activity and leisure side without any penalty. Sports Booker could also be integrated with our till systems.

“The Sports Booker system is easy to use and great to track management information such as income, nonattendance, bookings, activities’ popularity and all without the need for paperwork”

Almost four years since implementing Sports Booker, we’ve found it to be the most user friendly software that can be tailored to suit our business. Customers can book activities or events before visiting the park with no call on reception. We can also track bookings from any PC. Features such as the prepay function is very useful, as customers generally pay for £100 worth of activities before even arriving on site. The Sports Booker system is easy to use and great to track management information such as income, non-attendance, bookings, activities’ popularity and all without the need for paperwork. The bonus for us is that it’s much easier to adjust timetables as they do not have to be printed at the start of the year. Sports Booker has helped transform the way we book, manage and sell our activity programme. In the first five weeks of operation, over 50% of activities were being booked online by the customer which has significantly reduced the cost of staffing, improved customer service and also seen a considerable increase in sales, and is great advertising for the park.

WILLERBY SETTING THE PACE IN OFF-SITE MODULAR BUILDING Willerby Special Projects is a leading provider of innovative off-site modular buildings for the leisure sector. Willerby Special Projects’ off-site solution is a fast, configurable, high quality alternative to traditional build with less site disruption. An ideal cost-effective alternative to ageing leisure accommodation, Willerby’s high quality modular off-site construction reduces the build programme by up to 50%, affording a quicker return on investment, whilst high specification manufacture and fit-out can significantly increase the rental value. In addition, and where appropriate, the footprint

of existing single storey accommodation can be maximised with the incorporation of a second floor, affording the potential to significantly increase the rental proposition. Our off-site solution also means all kitchens, bathrooms and appliances are fully factory fitted to meet client requirements. Delivered and installed on site, complete with fully finished decoration, electrics, sound systems and floor coverings, we can tailor your internal fit out to meet a specific theme, all to the highest workmanship standards. CONTEMPORARY ROUNDHOUSES FOR THE RURAL HOTELIER Boost your rural enterprise! A dynamic new product for the adventurous and progressive hotelier. Now available as A LEISURE LODGE for 2016. Are you looking for lodges? Thinking of expanding your site? Not sure which way to turn? Want something new? Different? Exclusive? With so many options available to the rural hotelier and landowner, it can be difficult to find the appropriate structure which would boost your occupancy rates, generate newsworthy PR and attract a wider audience. With the market oscillating between the glamping pods and more traditional Lodges – the sturdier buildings bringing an all-year luxury experience for your guests but the yurts and tipis bringing the magic – you may be searching for something which ticks all of the boxes and allows you to derive the most revenue possible whilst providing an authentic and memorable experience. Inspired by the ancient civilisations who walked on this earth before us, the roundhouse is the oldest form of architecture and inspires and enchants all who have the pleasure of spending time in one.

Holiday makers are looking for experiences to share with their loved ones and create long-lasting memories – there is no better topic of conversation than that of the allure of the ‘Roundhouse’. (We’re not talking mud-huts and igloos here); the 21st century has brought the most indigenous form of architecture into the modern day.

“Rotunda Roundhouses are buildings designed to last for several decades and provide an alluring overnight accommodation experience” Using cutting edge manufacturing techniques and robust timber-framing processes which rival Scandinavian ecoarchitecture, Rotunda Roundhouses are buildings designed to last for several decades and provide an alluring overnight accommodation experience.
